So, I have not seen any threads started, however I may have missed them. I have a few observations. Jennifer Lopez looks really, really, good and Steven Tyler is either liked or dis-liked. There is no middle ground with him.

One observation, the show has outlived it's entertainment value.

There's a good reason for that.

I guess some would rather discuss the benefits of Creatine. Redheadlaw use to enjoy AI. Where has she been anyway? :)

I thought that ionce simon left that they would try to get someone in there to be the ahole. i thought it would be j-lo.
I am pleasantly suprised to find out how nice she is. i am also very happy to find out how much of a pro that steven tyler is.
i like the new format. Way better than ellen and that other lady who no one ever heard of.
i have a full sack of bachelor balls by the way.

Hmm, going to go out on a limb here and guess that perhaps part of the problem you are still a bachelor is because you watch AI and then discuss it online.
JK, or am I?:D

Not as good anymore. Simon made the show. Plus, why do people get so upset when they get turned down? Shouldn't they be mad at their family for letting them go on TV and make a fool of themselves? I don't need some judges to tell me I can't carry a tune.

This first part where they screen out all of the weirdos is the only part worth watching IMO. I just wish they would show more of the truly wacky folks, and quit pretending that anyone cares about the ones who can actually sing halfway decently.
Once they get to Hollywood I change the channel.

My thoughts exactly. I loved the Gong Show many years ago and the first few weeks of AI remind me of that. Once it gets serious, I never watch.

I always thought "AI" stood for "Artificial Intelligence."
Oh, wait, that works on this show, too.:D
(Actually, I've never seen it...)

actually, ratings are climbing again, because the new judging team is excellent....

I guess, it is just as fashionable to make fun of AI as it is Planet Fitness.....
But, if you love music: or in my case, if you have played and composed and recorded music for a lifetime, Idol is a great show to watch

Ditto...except for the bit about bachelor balls.
I thought it would sink without Simon but Steven Tyler is stealing the show now...

steven tyler is awesome. hands down.
still trying to figure out why jennifer lopez is on the show tho? All I can think about is hennifer lopez from south park. And what a joke her singing career is.

I don't like watching the show until they get past all of the try outs and really bad singers. If I wanted to listen to a really bad singer I could sing to myself

I've seen two of the episodes so far and enjoyed them both. Tyler's hysterical and Lopez is smoking hot. Randy's still cool as always. It's interesting how they're not focusing much on the hard core rejections.

It is my sincere belief that the popularity of shows such as American Idol is a direct reflection of the mentality of the populace in general. The number of coworkers I have who watch American Idol far outnumbers those who know the capital of Iran.
This is a big problem.

It's Baghdad.... duh... [no scarcasm whatsoever] Agreed. Have to say, I watch and know the capital of Iran (without looking it up - Tehran). Even knew they speak Farsi. I realize I don't represent the average viewership of the show.
That said, my wife and I don't have cable because we read or watch movies. For sports, I watch on rabbit ears or go to friends / bar.

I'm going to go with the assumption that you understood the bigger message of the narrow exmple because the tone of your post suggests it. :)
My wife and I have cable for home school, but we spend most of our evenings talking and reading, too or watching movies as you do. It's funny, when we're watching the news, we spend more time talking about the headlines than we do watching the news itself. :)

I will watch it when they go live. The last couple of years the talent seemed really bad and even in the finalists, there were no stand-outs that had much charisma. We will see if it is any different this time.
