Anyone here have experience taking Milk Thistle? I am taking for the liver-cleanse benefits. Opinions on dosages vary widely. The directions on the package say 2 to 4, three times per day. From what I have read, that for me, is too much. I am taking just 2, 500mg in the morning.
Any experience or recommendations for dosage? Thanks.

1 gram/day should be plenty. It is tough to recommend a specific dosage because there isn't enough research. Silymarin has poor oral bioavailability. Pharmacological data show that it is non toxic even at high dosages. I've gone as high as 3 grams/day without any stomach issues. Be sure to take it with a meal containing fat, as silymarin isn't water soluble. Make sure you are taking a standardized extract. Most are standardized for 80% silymarin.

It's like any other antioxidant. You aren't going to feel or notice anything from it.

Appreciate the comment. I got Nature's Science, 500mg. Taking 2 right after breakfast (many eggs)
Thanks again.

FWIW, the NIH says this about most treatments not manufactured in a lab.

It's like any other antioxidant. You aren't going to feel or notice anything from it.it has some uses in reducing liver inflammation. My liver remained inflamed.
I'd have to go back and check my journal for what else I was doing back then (2005/06) that may have been a factor

Definitely. Years later on reflection I'm pretty sure I've gotten more liver-cleansing out of eating copious amounts of cilantro in my food.
