I know sometimes people list stuff on Craigslist when a gym closes, but is there another site? Would be nice to get discounted prices on commercial equipment. Thanks.

I doubt it. It seems like most closing gyms I've seen pull up the old tractor trailer at midnight and before you know it the gear is with a broker or in self storage until further arrangements
Are made.
Once in a while, though, an auction house will post a gym sale on CL etc.

There aren't any websites that actually announce gym closings that I've ever been aware of.
There is www used gym equipment . c o m - remove the spaces - I believe it's a cental warehouse for a lot of closeout type equipment. The problem with it is, it's geared mostly for wholesalers and people dealing in bulk quantities, like resellers, not people like you and I who are looking for one of this, one of that. It's a nice site to look at for something to do, but not much more practical than that, it doesn't seem.

Enter a keyword ("Hammer Strength" or Cybex or Precor), enter your zip code, enter how far you will travel, and have fun. I have built up quite the collection and hope to have my gym finished in April or May with 1200 sq ft of commercial equipment all in my own back yard.
Here is an example of using the term cybex with no zip code used to limit the searches.

There was an unusual situation with a local gym where the guy's landlord didn't renew his lease and he had 2 weeks to sell 10000 sf worth of equipment. His no-pic CL ads clearly didn't get the job done as most everything went for a song.
I wonder if there will be further industry shakeout due to outfits like
Planet Fitness charging , what, $10/mo (are u kidding?) Either they won't be able to sustain, or the other folks who try to keep up through price slashing won't.
The small gym I went to in 1980 was $30 or $35/mo!
