All right guys and gals, for those who dont know me, and those who do, Im coming out of hibernation and going all in-CONTEST PREP mode. I still havent picked out a show or an exact date but Im dieting and training with no excuses and giving it my all as if I were competing. I wasnt 100% sure If I was ready yet but after talking to my mentor, the verdict was "diet down and make a decision when your closer to stage weight" so thats the plan. I began counting my calories and hitting my macros losely on the 1st but the 9th was my birthday so that week I had a few snacks here and there but since the 10th my diet has been spot on. This is my second year of serious bodybuilding and I plan on making it a productive one.
Diet
55/275/220 normal
55/450/210 refeed
I eat WHATEVER I want as long as I make it fit my macros for the day
Training
Mon-Legs Power
Tues-Chest/Back hyper
Wed-LISS
Thurs-Legs Hyper
Fri-Chest/Back Power HIIT
Sat-off
Sun-Shoulders/arms Powtrophy lol
also in a basketball League on Monday nights so thats another cardio session for me
will get some starting pictures up soon :)
Starting weight was 190 and today I weighed in at 187...refeed tomorrow!

3DMJ overseeing your prep? And how come only one shoulders/arms session/week, are those strengths of yours?
3DMJ is not overseeing my prep at the moment but I have some pretty helpful friends ;)
The reasoning behind one arm day a week is because with the chest back days, arms are also being worked so If I isolated them more than once a week, I know it would effect my pressing and pulling. BUt to answer your question....NO! THEY ARE NOT A STRONG POINT. Actually a big weak point. I have chicken arms. this point tho. Im sure 2 arm days wont help since you cant build muscle in a deficit. :(

Ill post the recipe right now lol
I like to make the full boxes of jello pudding since its cheaper and it makes 1048g lol
so I like to use...
300g Jello Pudding
20g Sunflower Seed Butter
16g Better N' Peanut Butter
50g Pumpkin
37g Scivation Whey
.5g Pure Stevia and Cinnamon
mix all that up in a bowl then freeze all day and eat it at night after putting it in the microwave for 40-50seconds (every microwave is going to be different)
So good to me I eat it every night lol
Its my version of PB pumpkin ice cream :)

That burrito was off the hook. I was standing in line with my brother and we were both still hurtin big time from the cardio we just did. I had no appitite what so ever but once I had my first bite, I crushed it in 3 minutes haha.
Yup, going to get real close to stage weight and make a "game time" decision. Training and dieting 100% though. If I dont end up competing, at least ill look damn good for summer this year lol

Was a LONG LONG day for me. Started at 430am with work in which I experienced my first feeling of hunger of this diet. I was stuck in the autopsy room from 8am until 1245am and I had eaten breakfast at 645. So just about 6 hours I went without a sip of water or anything. My body was definitely not appreciative. After work I headed straight to the gym and played in my basketball game in which we played well and pulled of a come from behind victory BUT I think its going to be my last game of the season because my left knee is not getting better, and might be worst now than it was. I have self diagnosed myself with "jumpers knee" ...basically its a very sharp pain right below my kneecap where my patella tendon is. Ice, ice, ice baby is going to be my new best friend but I want to stay as healthy as I can whilst prepping and dieting so I think Its in my best interest to call it quits on this season and get my knee healthy. Which is going to be one of the hardest things to do for me since basketball has become one of my passions. Thank god for bodybuilding! :) Diet yesterday was normal, macros 55/275/220 but I didnt get a weigh in since I was up so early and I knew that it wouldnt be accurate since I usually weigh in around 7am. Weighed 187 this morning but Im expecting a drop in the next few days. Chest/Back Hyper this morning and Im going to kill it.

Damn man, hope that knee gets better. I think your making the right decision to ease off on the balling for now. Its probably better to give it a chance to heal now rather than prolong things, especially since your recovery will be compromised as you get more aggressive with your caloric deficit.
And yea I been around man, I'm cutting now the same as you. Had a pretty successful bulk this past 6-7 months... sitting around 185 with semi-visible abs and will cut down to 170 and then get back to gaining. Hope to be back around 185 with Berto's current condition and pull 600 by the end of the year. Pretty lofty goals, but I'll reach em.

Another 430am start to my day, which calls for a long day but I prepared all my food, had my creatine, shaker cup w/ water, gym clothes, ipod, but when I got to the gym, I realized I forgot something very important...ENERGY! lol Luckily today was only shoulders but still I was draggin. Since my walk to work is a good 15 minutes each way I counted that as cardio today and just lifted.
Hammer Strength Shoulder Press
1plate/side x 12 x 4

22.5x10 x 3
Ez-Bar Front Raises

After working out for months in the morning, my body seems to not like the gym at night time. But if my schedule calls for it. Im going to have to make lemonade. WOrk will be done.

exactly...I dont want to try and fight through the pain with my knee because I know it will just lead to a more serious injury down the road and thats not what I need. I want to stay as healthy as I can while I prep so that I can maintain as much muscle as I have and not have to comprimise anything down the line. Its just hard because basketball is my passion but the court will always be there.
awesome on your bulk, glad to hear it. Anything is achievable... your body will achieve what your mind believes! Shoot for the stars and when you reach up and grab one, snag one for me too...thanks!

Weighed in at my normal time this morning and was 186. So Im hoping that before Sunday I can be at 185. Sunday is my refeed. OMG does being able to workout in my regular time make a huge difference. Had a great arm workout and did some cardio on my gyms new Jaccobs Latter.

Yeah I sure hope so. This gig that has me getting up early is on call, so I never really know when Im going to be called in but I got to do what I got to do. You are 100% correct buddy...no shoulders day but since last monday I hurt my knee I decided to take the rest of the week off from working out legs. So by having a shoulder day it got me in the gym, burned some calories, and still helped me feel like I was accomplishing something, instead of sitting at home bummin over my knee ;) also last sunday I didnt hit shoulders.

Jacobs ladder is the real deal. Great way to switch up cardio and get out of the traditional incline walk...ya know? once i get leaner Im going to start swimming for my cardio. Im going to work my way up to 10 minutes on the ladder and 10 minutes incline walk...will make the 20 minute cardio session feel like a breeze!

Was another early morning wake up for work at 430am so no weigh in. This week has been really different for me as far as scheduled workouts go. Since I hurt my knee on Monday I decided to give my lower body the rest of the week off to let my knee heal up some what and that left me with alot of time to do upper body but not alot of time to workout so yesterday, Friday, I decided to make a day off/cardio since I walked about 3 miles to and from work. Hit my macros and called it a night. I kind of feel like I have stalled on the fat loss and weight loss on these macros but we will see in a few more days.

You doing three week intensity waves to set PRs?
yup. 70%, 85%, 100%, then PR week. I have found this works wonders for me in the past. The 70% week gives you a week in which you can get your form down, not tax your CNS, and acts as a mini de-load. From there on you increase the poundage's weekly and after PR week, you go back down to 70%. I love it.

How's the knee feeling after lower?
Its feeling good actually. Not painful at all but I haven't been running our jumping either and those are the 2 things that aggrevate it the most. I jyst need to stay more on top of the rolling and icing and I should be golden. Thanks for asking Mr. Bukaki

Off day for me. Woke up and weighed 185. I started to come down with some type of sickness that is killing me. Chest pains, runny nose, head pressure, and sore throat...not the business. I just relaxed and kicked back on the couch all day and hit my macros. Luckily I still had an appetite so getting my meals in was not an issue. I do however have a little tweak on my macros from here on in...looks like this..
Monday: 55/275/220
Tuesday: 55/275/220
Wednesday: 55/275/220
Thursday: 55/225/220
Friday: 55/225/220
Saturday: 55/225/220
Sunday: 55ish/450ish/210ish refeed

Hope you feel better my dude. I'm just starting to hopefully see the tail-end of this flu bs myself. Although mine probably came from being an idiot and shoveling snow right after hitting the gym (I had to though). Oh well, at least it helped me hit a new low for this week on the scale :D

Well at least you know what pisses it off and to it's easy to avoid. Just have to treat the rehab like part of your workout. One doesn't work to well without the other.
Then you gets the full Bukaki!!

Woke up this morning to 184 again and since Im still fighting this flu Im not going to drop CHO's by 50 until Im healthy so that my recovery can be a bit better. Tried Nyquil and Dayquil and one of them gave me diarrhea FTL. Starting to feel over the flu but still have some major congestion in my sinuses. Im hoping that taking it easy tonight and getting a good night sleep will leave me feeling much better in the morning. Hoping to train tomorrow. Other than that, some good stuff on television tonight. Heat vs Magic, Warriors vs Bucks and Jersey Shore!

Dude, I burned like 500kcal just watching the game. LOL...actually 300 or so...I was doing KB swings at the same time. But damn! Thats what we get for not boxing out! I will take losses in the regular season... just not the playoffs. I've been a Lakers fan for years. Same crap everyseason...come playoff time it needs to be a different story though.
Yea I grew up in Hayward and moved out to Tracy. I workout at In-Shape there in Tracy. But work at Dublin Toyota. I wish we had a 24 hour Fitness or something in Tracy for those late night workouts...my schedule is kind of crazy and our gym closes at 11PM :(

I will give it to the Lakers in that sense, they have been able to flip the switch come playoff time but for some reason this season they dont have that same swagger about them as they have in the past. Teams are not afraid of them anymore. I think they are going to need a change in order to stay a top tier team. Just so inconsistent and now Artest wants out?? should get interesting....but my Warriors are playing well as of late! How can Monta Ellis not be an All-star or atleast a reserve??? thats some BULL****!

lol Cleveland is boo boo...20+ game losing streak. C'mon Cavs, this is supposed to be the NBA not the D-League. I dont blame LeBron one bit for what he did this summer. He left Cleveland, which fcukin blows(I been there), to live in Miami, play hoop with 2 All Stars, which are also his good friends, and a chance to make history. The Heat are going to be contenders for A LONG time.
The Monta Ellis situation pisses me off because if he was on any other team that had a decent record he would be an all star no doubt but since he is on the Warriors he gets over looked like crazy which aint right at all. Its all good though because he will remain to stay hungry and humble and keep doin his thing on a nightly basis.
I actually just bought a new car a few months ago but if I ever need a new new Ill make sure I talk to you...

Exactly Brad...my strength was there but I didnt want to push it because I knew my recovery was going to be hampered big time but on the endurance tip, mine was non existent. I could barely do a set of 10 without huffing and puffing like a big dog. Took about 6-8 minutes in between sets to catch my breath. N.O.T F.U.N!

They played great against the bulls anf then took a dump on them selves last night against the suns. No defense what so ever. Its painful to watch them play sometimes because I know they have potential to be a quality team. One of these days they will get it. yeah me and berto are saying warm up as much as you need to be ready for it, but START with your heaviest set first. Each set causes cumulative fatigue right? And on a strength day, with your reps on squats in the 1-5 range, the main stimulus for growth is the weight on the bar, the load. So you want to be able to get the most total poundage and maximal weight out of this workout....to do that, start with your heaviest set first when you aren't yet fatigued, its just called a reverse pyramid

Really that squat looked pretty damn good Nickster. You think that maybe going down that fast threw you off kind of 'catching' the weight? I don't know if I remember you hitting the negative that fast in the past. Looked like once you got past the rebound is where you started going forward a bit.

I think that descending so quickly could have messed me up no doubt. Next time I squat heavy I will give a slower decent a try and see how it works out. Also, I didnt push out of my heels and ended up pushing from my toes so I know that was a big reason I ended up going forward.

Are your refeeds scheduled on the same day every week or are they more dynamic? The reason why I ask is I used to have a fixed day for refeeds (usually on a weekend) but what I'm doing know and so far personally seem to have more success with is I have a refeed the day after I hit my weight loss goal for the week.
Whats crazy is as I've learned my body I can tell by how depeleted I am at the gym and even the degree to which I've sweated through my shirt (lol, im serious) wether or not im gonna hit my weight loss goal and need a refeed the next day.
I feel like this has been the key in me keeping my strength this go around, because sometimes I'm refeeding twice a week, when before my former fat kid mentally would have me thinking no way could I loss fat that fast and I would keep pushing the deficit. Often times to my own detriment.
Edit: The only thing I gotta figure out with this now is how proactive I have to be in shortening my acceptable amount of pounds loss per week as I get substantially leaner.

I have been refeeding once a week and its been every Sunday. I dont think Im to the point where I know if Im depleted or not enough to say to myself "I need a refeed". Im still fat so maybe once I get leaner that will happen for me. That would be cool though.
I dont really have a weight loss goal per say for the week I just make sure that my weigh in patterns are going down on the current macros. I might look into this approach but I have a feeling it would leave me worrying about too many variables.

Dude, arm looks massive!
Xtend is actually the only BCAA product that doesn't give me gas. Even if it did, I would probably still drink it :D. It's just that good lol.
I know right...but my stomach has been messed up for 4 days now and it seems like everything I eat is bloating me to the point where its painful so Im not really sure it was the xtend now :(
Yeah isn't this stuff supposed to make you feel "better"? If not, ditch it.
Hey how bout the Celtic trade? Ainge loose his mind or what?
I think that Ainge knows something we dont know in terms of Perkins Health.
Some sick triceps. Must be the pre workout supps ;)
that was actually taken right after I changed into my scrubs at work. No pump just good lighting :)
I'm a C's fan and hate it. Lakers won the series last year because of their big men in Game 7 and now we get rid of one of our best rebounders and the intimidator on D (KG thinks hes bad ass but he isnt, its a big act). And it just doesnt make sense because Shaq and J. Oneil cant stay healthy so who do you count on to stop Bynum/Gasol or Howard ect????
you have a great point and the Celtics having 2 big men was a key to success for them as well as the chemistry they have accumulated over the years. Im still scratching my head over this trade, doesnt make much sense to me, but Im sure Ainge has the master plan and hopefully it unfolds.

I'm a Jazz fan so you know how I'm feeling now, lol. We didn't want to eventually to be screwed by the Cavs so I actually think that it was a good idea. Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and potentially two top 5 picks. I'll take it.

fiber intake is around 20-30g and water is about 100oz a day...
it just feels like so much gas is trapped in my stomach and I just need to have a huge fart and it would all be gone...as silly as that sounds. It gets to the point where I get so bloated that its painful from the pressure. Im really hoping that this passes bruh. My BMs are still every morning but lately they just havent been the same..almost as if Im not completely emptying or something. Im going to try a herbal laxative tea this evening before going to bed and hopefully in the morning I get all this **** out of me lol

Whats up everybody, sorry for the lack of updates and overall posts. Been real busy as of late with working 3 jobs, diet, training, etc. No excuses tho but something had to take a back seat and unfortunally it was logging...I should be back in full swing soo though and Hopefully get some progress pics up sometime later in the week. Weight is about 182 right now and that is after my refeed so we should see some new lows by the end of the week. lets get it!

So I have been feeling really good lately inside and outside the gym. Stomach has been much better and cardio is getting a little bit easier with each and every session. Going to try and do my best to log my workouts and whatnot but working 3 jobs sometimes doesnt allow it but this past week I have flipped the switch and Im in PREP mode...all I think about all day is about getting in the gym and getting leaner!

So yesterday was a scheduled cardio only day but I decided to take the day completely off and just do my cardio session this morning and lift tonight when I get off work. Just finished my cardio in which I did a kettlebell circuit of 50 swings, 10 pushups, 10 KB squats. Then hoped on the bike and did 15 minutes with 5 intervals thrown in. All in all was a good session...even better was being able to do this on my break at work! After my cardio session I slammed some sludge and sweet potato...so good!

Squats look pretty dang good really. Maybe a little high, but it's tough to tell from that angle.
You kept em all way tighter than the last vid you put up. Not nearly as much leaning forward and really good pop out of the hole on a few of those.
For your style I'd be interested to see how you'd like low bar. It may take some of that initial back dip out that you tend to do.

Looking real strong on the squats Nick. I would think those shoes might be difficult to squat in. Looks like a lot of cushion, kind of an unstable base. I'm thinking maybe a different shoe would let you sit back just a little bit more and you'd hit depth with that same range of motion. I just picked up some oly-lifting shoes and it makes a huge difference, even better than chucks.
Either way, the movement at the hip looks a lot better than I remember in your past videos.

Free's I would not recommend, and with your squat issues I would totally recommend you get these.

Didn't know Nick wears a 3.5 lol
but yea I'd definitely go with something like that, you can probably find a pair in your size for like 50-60 bucks. They will last you a long time and the difference between those and chucks is worth it IMO. If you squat frequently you'll notice the difference. Plus my chucks wore out pretty fast from pushing my feet out against the side.
I got some nike romaleos on ebay and they are just sex, unfortunately seem to be sold out most places. Adidas adistar or power perfects are nice too. Adidas ones are probably gonna run about twice as much as the do-wins. I haven't tried the do-wins myself, but I know a lot of people that have them and love them.
Edit: If you feel like splurging, they just put these in stock in 10.5, Very hard to find.

Sure, one of these days when we meet up, but you know how that is. When I see ya. LOL
I can almost tell you know, not a bad investment for you since you plates behind your heels work for you. Even for me who had no issues with squats, and because of my femur length and flexibility I got TONS of good stuff from them.

I really need to look through more than just my subbed threads more often. I thought you were still taking a super long break from the boards. I'm in now, caught up on the last few pages. Can't wait to see how it goes.
You still taking your probiotics like you used to, I remember a while back you having issues and I think you said those were helping. I know the feeling you're talking about though. Too much dairy will do that to me (and waay too much food in general), but some raw broccoli usually helps me out. Hope you get it figured out.

I know right? Our schedules are all messed up these days...we need to go back to the good ol days when you, matty, and I would lift every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 :)
I was thinking the same thing about the shoes...since putting the plates under my heels does alot of good things for me, I cant see the shoes doing anything that wont benefit me...one thing I have noticed though, is that since I have been in "SAVE MY MONEY" mode...its damn hard for me to make a purchase now...even when I CAN afford it.

LOL no worries Dev. Glad you are in! Things are looking alot better. You know what, I havent been taking my probiotics but that just reminded me that I should definitely get some again and see if it helps me out...I def dont think Im eating wayyy to much food but I tend to get gassy easily and it just doesnt seem to escape as it should :( getting better though!

Glad to hear the stomach is doing better.
And I concur with Bert on the shoes. Oly shoes are nice, but far from the end all. Hell if lifting with plates under your heels makes you feel like a rock star then just do that. At least until you feel like laying down a hundo.
IMO chucks suck balls. Yeah they're flat, but the upper construction allows your foot to move all over the place. You'd be better off to squat in socks.
