According to the survey of 671 men and 869 women, issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, 35.1 per cent of men aged 16 to 19 said they are not interested in or averse to sex, more than double the 17.5 per cent of men in the previous study in 2008.

^^ This. It may be that people falsely self-report that they aren't interested in sex because Japan (from what I understand) tends to be a bit repressive about such things.

There is a direct inverse relationship between education and lower birth rates. It probably does not account for the lack of desire, but Japan has steadily increased their overall rate of education during the last 40 years, ranking top 10 in math, reading, and science.

I, for one, over the years, have done my part for my own country (Canada) and of course for my own satisfaction, of having as much sex with the willing females of this country (Japan) as possible.:D Now that I'm married, I confine my activities to my wife and do so willingly.

There are a lot of reasons why Japanese men don't have as much sex as North American men say they do. Education might be one of them but that's not the only one. The work hours here are long, many men smoke and drink too much which lowers testosterone levels, there is an awful lot of pressure here, et.al. Chalking it up to higher education--and the standards here have slipped over the past two decades, by the way--isn't the answer.

As for birth control, most women here do not use the pill; it's very hard for a woman to get her doctor to prescribe them. Condoms are also not used as much...or so the anecdotes say. I've been living here for 22 years and all I can say is before I got married, I never lacked for girlfriends or having sex. (And I'm pretty fugly, too!:D)
