I'd like to hear some suggestions of honeymoon ideas. We were thinking of doing the typical all inclusive type thing but now I'm kind leaning toward something were we can get some culture and not be confined to a resort. Trying to keep it at $3000 total with air. Anyone done anything cool or know someone who has? I'd like to be near a beach though.

Everywhere has opportunities to interact with the arts and other 'culture' it's just a matter of getting off the resort or out of the tourist section and finding it. Do you want to stay state-side?

Might be able to get into a cruise for somewhere in that range . . . lots of opportunities to hit different beaches and get out to see lots of different cultural things. We did a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon and it was a blast.

By stateside you mean honeymoon in US? Definitely not.

Yea I have done a cruise and it was cool doing the excursions. The only problem with that is the ports are so set up for tourists. It's like a big hustle when you get off the boat.

I took my wife to Kauai for our 10th anniversary and it was the best vacation we ever took. Total relaxation and we stayed at a beach resort. With todays economy, you may be able to find some great deals.

http://www.europeandestinations.com/ (have a lot of multi-destination vacations you can choose from)

also go on

travelzoo.com,
cheapcarribean.com
bookit.com

great sites

I went to spain in August.... Madrid -> Valencia -> Barcelona (beaches in Valencia and Barcelona) great times and SOO much culture.... took a train from each city...might cost you more than 3gs with the Euro being the downside - but well worth it....

Cancun is fun, and the the DR. Was supposed to go to cabo in Dec things fell through...

I'd also suggest hawaii - its really cheap to get/stay there - food is not so cheap though...

We stayed at my husband's grandparents summer apartment in Hawaii. It was relaxing and boring. I've gone on a cruise to the West Indies and that was big fun...going to different islands. I want to recommend the cruiseline but they have gone out of business. My cousin just took his girlfriend to Machu Picchu and he proposed to her there. They had a blast and there was definitely culture to be had.

we went to Disney World for our honeymoon...mid december, no where near as crowded. LOTS to do. But if you're getting married in the warmer months I wouldn't recommend it.

Cozumel might fit you as well, warm and sunny with great beaches. $3k for 2 all inclusive can be done as well. Depending on which resort you choose the atmosphere can be pretty romantic. My wife was crying about how beautiful it was at the Allegro resort and it really was like something out of Fantasy Island.

I agree with Spain - they have all-inclusives there as well - Spain is awesome, different enough to be culturally stimulating but similar enough to North America to be comfortable.

Along with the above-mentioned you may also want to consider the Costa del Sol. It's not far from Granada and the Alhambra palace is a must-see. Also close to Gibraltar which is really cool. Spain is awesome.

I'm a huge fan of the Playa del Carmen area. You can make out of it exactly what you want. Big all inclusive resort, little boutique hotel, busy night life in town, lots of restaurants, ancient ruins...

My wife and I went to Spain for our honeymoon. We were on a tour but this one featured a lot of free time periods to do what we wanted so we took advantage of that. If you and your bride aren't into tours, I'd still suggest Spain. It has so many beautiful museums and churches and things to see.

If you want a beach area, go to Costa Del Sol. They have rather nice hotels there and it's a friendly place to walk around, eat, and do the culture thing. Really, when you want to "get involved" with the culture, that's more of a personal willingness to do so as opposed to someone "showing" you. (Not a diss; just an observation).

Anyway, I'd recommend Spain first and foremost. Congratulations on your marriage. Live long and prosper!

Costa Rica!! Its dirt cheap, lots of cool stuff to do....beach, hiking in rain forests, scuba, surfing...all inclusive resort type places starting up there now. I like an active vacation, so I love places like this:)

Heck we just jumped in the car and drove across the Midwest 'antiquing'. We have tons of things that we can pass on to our kids and grandkids and tell them we bought that on our honeymoon.

To me it's about who you are with and not where you go......... if you're spending that much energy on trying to figure out the perfect location you just might not have the right partner. Just mho.

My wife and I are still that way when we go on vacation we generally decide east, west, north or south and then off we go......... but that's just the artist in us I suppose.

Were there midgets?

No, Tattoo was not there:D But everyone who worked there did wear the white suit style clothing.

Also agree with Medjen, Playa Del Carmen area is nice too. We took the ferry over and spent the day shopping and eating.
