Hello,

I have been trying to loose weight for some time now and it has been bitter sweet, I thought I was doing it right but have been advised by someone that I have been eating way to little to actually be able to loose fat.

I am currently
22/f
5'3
149lbs +/-35%bf

he has suggested that I eat the following but I am skeptical as I have a hard time eating 1000-1100 calories in a day.

Days in the gym I eat
125g protein
100g carbs
55g fat
1400 calories

Days off from the gym
125g protein
80g carbs
77g fat!!!!
1400 calories

How can this be? I just can't seem to wrap my head around that many calories are gonna loose me weight!

I followed his plan for 12 days and actually gained 1lb! But I did lose inches all over my body?!

I am now left very confused.

:(

Emma-Leigh has done a fantastic job of explaining it all. I'm sure it'll all make sense once you've read it.

hmmm looks like my friend is pretty close in his calculations.

He wanted to have me at 1500 calories with a bit more fat, but I wanted to try this first!

Thanks!

Don't fear the fat! lol I know easier said than done when we're bombarded with diet plans telling us not to take in more than 2g of fat or else we'll turn into hefalumps! :)

Took me a long time to get my head round incorporating 65 - 75g of good fat in my diet.

If you're serious about losing weight and want to really shed it off quicker... you're diet is kinda off.

Starters - you need 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean mass body weight - so if you're lean mass is 120 lbs = 120 grams. To find out how many calories you need to eat each day - you need to find your maintenance calorie intake point. Take your actual weight now, multiply that by 15, that's your calorie requirements to MAINTAIN your weight. To reduce weight - start at about a 500 calorie deduction. So if you currently weigh 150 lbs for example - your maintenance calories is 2250. To lose weight - you deduct 500 - you should be consuming 1750 calories per day to encourage weight loss. If you are too low below that point, your body will actually not shed the fat because its too deficient and feels that it has to protect your stored fat cells for energy. Your not losing the way you expect because you have to fuel your body to expend the waste. You can also reduce the carbs day to day and utilize a carb up program which will be more effective.

Not sure how you're working out either. Remember - to get a toned physique, you have to tone your body. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns, and the leaner you'll get quicker.

sorry if am being delusional here, because i cannot seem to suss out what should be an adequate intake of food too...with the above mentioned

current weight: 191lbs
times that by 15
equates to 2865 (this is what i am currently consuming in order to maintain the weight i am at now?)

so in order to shift some weight i would need to consume -500-700 of my maintenance calories
this would mean i need to eat between 2365 (if its -500 calories) or 2165 (if its -700 calories)??

have i done this incorrectly? casue that seems like a lot to be consuming!

and yes i am lifting and slowly heading towards a heavier set: form is everything at the minute!
