View Full Version : Back To The Stage I Go...

Well ladies, the bug has hit me again and so I begin my journey back to the stage. The last time I trained for a show was in 2006 - but the show was cancelled a week prior and so I never got to get on stage. Prior to that, I competed and placed 3rd in the figure tall class in an amateur show in Virginia. Since then, I've gotten married and had two babies who are 16 months apart - yikes right?! I have a long road ahead of me, but this bug has bitten me so off I go.
I'm currently waiting on my trainer to complete my diet/workout regimen. His wife plays for the WNBA and they are currently in China where she plays during the off season. So, we are communicating via email as he is able. The show is in July, so I've got lots of work to do!! So glad to be in a place where I can get motivation, feedback and encouragement - I'm sure going to need it! :)

Today is an off-day for me - Sundays most typically are. I love getting up on Sunday morning, going to church, seeing our friends, and feeling renewed...then spending the afternoon with my wonderful family!! Today was a great day. I am lucky enough to have a pastor who cares about health and fitness - he's founded 50 Days of Fitness- which is a program designed to promote health and fitness on the INSIDE as well as the OUTSIDE. I'm so excited to be volunteering at some events that we have coming up this week!

Friday my brother and sister-in-law came into town with my new niece - this was the first time I got to meet her, so it's been a "doting" few days! And, yesterday my baby girl turned 2 - can't even believe it. We had a VeggieTales party for her friends and she had a great time. My brother even debuted as Larry the Cucumber for the party. I made the costume for him on Friday. The kids weren't so sure about him, and my daughter wouldn't go near him ~ but it's all she's talked about since then, so I guess she liked it. :)

2. Do you have protein immediately after your lifting session if you do cardio right after? Or, do you wait until immediately after cardio? Or, do you wait until you're home from the gym (or at work, etc)?
3. Do you ladies shrug? If so, do you use DB's or BB or shrug machine? Do you train them on shoulders day? Back day? Separate from both?

I personally don't train my calves that often because that is the one body part that actually has shape to it, my husband told me not to over work them. But when I do train them I do it on a legs day.
I usually don't have protein until I get home from the gym. I have just recently started doing 20 mins of cardio after my workout.
I don't do shrugs but I do plenty of other trap exercises. If i do them I use DB on a back day. Shrugs work your traps. Instead of the shrugs I do "face pulls". I found this exercise on BB.com and it is a really cool move. Using the cables put it down low and use the rope for this move. You are going to pull the rope towards your face. you can adjust the cables along the pole to hit different angles of the traps....Totally love it. Actually did it today!

I've had a VERY sick kiddo the past few days which means that I don't get to go to the gym because I can't put her in the kids club (trust me, we got kicked out the last time she had a cold) - so, I've been trying to do a few things around the house - I even have p90x but I find it so hard to get motivated at home...especially when all she wants me to do is hold her. I feel so bad for her and just want her to be better! GO AWAY VIRUS!!! Hopefully this weekend will be the end of it and we'll be back strong at the beginning of the week!
