I'm mostly a noob to bodybuilding, I have been working out for a year now. I'm 6' and 146 lbs. I can't afford to buy a gym membership so I do my work outs at home with a couple of dumbbells mostly but have had a Weider pro 4300 that I have been ignoring. I know how crappy they are you don't need to tell me that. I've out grown my dumbbell weights and was wondering if I should do some exercises on the machine. Is using the machine a complete waste of time or should I give it a shot?
I certainly wouldn't suggest buying it but if you already have it and you have NO other option, then workout on it. It's will be better than dumbells that are too light for you.

Yes, i've had it for a couple of years now. I will probably use it until I get a good dumbbell set. I have tried looking for a nice bench press but I cant fit anything else in the room, unless of course it can fold up.
Sell the Weider crap and you can fit a nice power rack in that space :)
Actually in all seriousness January (new years resolution time) is the perfect time to sell something like that. Put it on cragslist and see what you can get.

Just bumping this so I don't create a new thread. I see one of these on craigslist for $150. I'm interested in the lat pulldown, flyes, and using the pulleys for tricep extentions, lat raises, etc. My wife would be using this as well for the leg attachments, etc.
I know Weider is generally referred to as crap, but is $150 still too much for this? I still plan on getting a power rack, I'm leaning towards the powertec.

It's in the ballpark. I've owned two gyms like this (Schwinn brand) I found them in the free section and flipped them for $200 each. So I would say a gym like that is worth between zero and two hundred bucks.
Things to look for are quality construction, smooth movement, relatively small plates and lots of them. Unfortunately Weider equipment usually has none of those things.
This one offers a whopping 125 pound weight stack  and claims up to 195 pounds of resistance. If the stack allowed five pound jumps that would be great, 10 would be ok. This is something I would pay attention to because Weider did offer a piece of crap that had a hundred pound stack but with 20 pound plates, making it completely useless for decent progression especially with anything but the largest of compound exercises.
