HIIT will only help with the last few pounds.
over the last 6 years my body has gone through a transformation
i started as a fat kid, all i did was sit on my couch and eat. in 7th grade i was at 180 lbs. i decided to join basketball.
for 3 years i played basketball, i lost alittle weight but was not happy. i wanted to lose more of the fat.
in my junior year of highschool i dropped basketball(i wasnt good anyways), and joined cross country. it was a shock, within a week i went from 150 lbs at 5'5" to 146 lbs. i was running.
today i stand at 5'7" and i weigh 145 lbs. i have grew 4 inches and LOST 35 lbs.
Hiit training, although it will kick fats ass, can not be done on a daily basis. doing sprints every day will eventually lead to fatigie and make it hard just to get up in the morning. slow running, endurance running, is the best way to lose fat. OXYGEN is needed to burn fat. HIIT training is anaerobic(without oxygen), what it is doing is boosting your metabolism, it is not actually burning the fat. endurance running of 3-10 miles a day and even more for some people will add up over time to burning much more fat than HIIT.
I am not against HIIT, HIIT is very important in any plan to burn fat, but it should only be done once or twice a week, the rest should be slow, long (30+ minutes) of endurance running, running where you can hold a conversation. to some that might even be walking. HIIT will allow you to run faster during your endurance running down the road, therefore making you go from say... 3 miles in 30 minutes to 4-4.5 miles in 30 minutes. each mile you run burns 100 calories(based on 130 lb person), so the longer you run the more you burn. miles are what counts, not time, so a person running 3 miles in 30 minutes at an aerobic pace(with oxygen) will burn just as many calories of a person at the same weight running 3 miles in 20 minutes at an aerobic pace.
if you want to burn fat the fastest, run aerobically for 80% of your runs during the week.

Congrats on your weight loss.
The reason I utilize HITT is basically to get more bang for my buck as it were. I want to empty the glycogen stores as fast as possible in muscles so I can get to the fat burning stuff as quickly as possible. A lot of us tend to do cardio only a couple of times a week for cardio vascular health as too much cardio can eat up the valuable muscle we're trying to preserve and build on, especially when on a cut.
I'm glad you've found what works for you, and it's always interesting to see another side to the story and learn new stuff.
Good luck with your running.

im sure someone more knowledgeble will chime in here, but i dont think that a lot of people do it every day...
theres also a school of thought, i believe, that lots of running isnt muscle sparing....?

Over the last 6 years, you also went through puberty, which probably had a significant effect on your metabolism. I don't know if a lot of people do HIIT for fat strictly burning. I know I do it mostly to get my heart rate up for cardiovascular health.
Fat loss comes down to calories in vs. calories out. If you increase your caloric output by lots of running, that is one way to do it, but the most effective way (as many people then use cardio as an excuse to eat more) is through diet. I would rather eat a little less than spend a whole lot of time running.
I'm glad that you found something that seemed to help you out with your goals, but I would not then say that it applies to everyone.

Yeah, I don't know of anyone who does HIIT every day. I've only seen it a max of 3 times per week. As a matter of fact, if you can do it every day, you are not doing HIIT.
