Hi all,

Right now I train Karate (Purple belt, compete in Kata and Kumite), and I'm a wannabe powerlifter.

I was supposed to do my first meet last November, but missed it due to injury.

My goal for 2011 is to get to Brown belt, 2nd Kyu, then start training in BJJ with a view to competing.

Training wise, my goals are to greatly increase my wilks (I'm coming back after injury and only have a wilks of 183 right now, I want it to be over 250 RAW so I won't come last in a meet), and to sort out my burst cardio. I seem to do well with long distance jogging / cycling and long, intense Karate sessions, but I'll be gassed halfway through the third bout in a tournament. Not good :/

I lift 3x a week, and do Karate every Friday and every other Sunday. I'm turning my spare room into a sparring / bag room so that I can train more at home. I'm thinking tabata workouts might help stop me gassing.

I've ordered some scales, calipers, and a heavy bag stand in the January sales (had a bag for ages but nowhere to hang it!). I just did my test day for restarting SS, first workout will be tomorrow. I'll update with stats then!

Well, we're still doing the training room out so haven't been able to do any serious lifting yet. Almost finished - can't wait to do some training that isn't just bodyweight stuff!

My new scales arrived today. It calcluates my BMR at 1255 (which is close to what Fitday reckons), and my BF% at around 13% - which I think is a bit low based on how I look. But, it's consistent in its readings so it'll do until we get some calipers.

Karate starts again tomorrow. I'm eager to get back to training but not looking forward to the first session. When I'm not training I get lethargic fast :(

Well, had the first Karate session of 2011. I feel like I've lost a lot of flexibility over the holidays, but other than that I was pretty pleased with myself. My technique is still there (even if it's not as intuitive as it was - wow, you lose it fast!), and my power isn't down too much.

We were kept busy all session, and I was tired at the end, but didn't completely gas.

Our heavy bag stand arrived today. The stand weighs 38KG, and the delivery guy asked for help to get the thing out of the van *cringe*.

We haven't finished emptying the spare room out yet, so the stand is still in the box in the kitchen, but I can't wait to get it put up.

The digital bodyfat calipers arrived today. They measure me at 14.6%, which is a little over what the scales give, but only a little. I thought I was a higher percentage, so I'm pretty surprised.

We finally got the heavy bag up. I've discovered that my timing sucks - trying to kick the bag when it's already swinging isn't pleasant. I'm sure a few weeks of that will toughen my legs up though!

The stand is HUGE. I'd expected to be able to turn the spare room into a mini dojo with a stand and some mats for sparring practice, but it looks like that isn't going to work. There's not even enough room for stand + an area for skipping. Heck, if my husband wants to work roundhouses I couldn't even do pushups in the corner :( Maybe we need to convert another room :-p
