View Full Version : Can't do abs...

For years now, everytime I try to do sit ups, or any ab exercises, I get a painful knot/spasm right on the top right of my abs. It's so painful, scary and embaressing.
It feels like somehting is trying to get out, I just sit there and wait for it to go away.
And sometimes it feels like a small golf ball sticking out.
I went to the hospital because of it and they took a cat scan but couldn't find anything.
They finally decided to give me a surgery by putting a camera through my belly button to see if I have a hernia but they couldn't see anything.
I decided to stop doing abs a long time ago, because when that happens to me my life stops and I don't know what to do.
I workout 4 times a week, I do cardio 3 times a week and I try to eat healthy all the time.
But I have a week core, and while my body is getting stronger and bigger, my stomack remains weak.
Does anybody knows how to solves this? I gave up on doctors, and I had to go through an unnessary surgery.

Can you do front squats? Squats? Deads? Pretty much all I do for my abs... lol. Remember... abd are made in the kitchen ;)

I have exactly the same problem!!

Everytime I do crunches, on the 8th rep or so, i just cramped out... The time just stopped for like... forever... Not sure why it happens though... And I have no problem doing squats and deads :(

Can you do front squats? Squats? Deads? Pretty much all I do for my abs... lol. Remember... abd are made in the kitchen ;)

I usually do smith machine squates and stiff legged deadlifts.
that twisting and knoting only comes when I do abs.
Yeah i know it's all diet and cardio when it comes to abs,
but when I lift, I feel my weak stomack is holding me back. I think I can push myself alot harder if it wasn't for my problem.
I hate it so much.

ME TOO.... on the 8th or 10th rep it stars happening than I just stop everything and wait for like 5 to 10 minutes for it to go away. I can do everything fine, just my stomack sucks...

This for sure works, I did an experiment by doing front squats, dead lifts, squats and everything else except ab work out. My abs got strong and with a clean diet shredded my abs.

There's your problem.

Switch smith machine squats to Regular back/FRONT squats and you will see a dramatic improvement to your core strength if you stay consistent with them.

I can't do squats properly because my stomack, that's why I switched to smith machine squats. it came to a point where I couldn't get the proper posture when I was doing squats. But front squats sounds good, I never tried it before, it could be just what I'm looking for.
