welcome to contest prep.....no seriously , hang on man things will get better when your body will get used to the new calories intake . Did 3 shows this year and only the last 2-3 weeks were hard to get by , but once you get on stage everything falls in place ;)

If you are feeling bad only 6 days in, then your diet is most likely not optimal. Most will tend to feel very lethargic towards the end, but thats just due to bodyfat being very low. When you are in the beginning stages of prep, your bodyfat is relatively high so as long as you have the necessary carbs and fats to feed the ole' furnace, you should be fine. Why dont you post your stats along with your macros and/or typical diet and let us take a look to see if we can help tweak things.

The first week is always the worst. I like to think of it as a washout period for getting over your sugar addiction. After the first week I lose the craving for sweets and life get easier.

dont have any cravings, plus even if I do I can fit a bit of chocolate or ice cream inot my macros

the constant heartburn is the worst....antacids only help for an hour or two and I have to take like 5 times the rec dose

Wow. You are one huge dude then. Is this an untested show you are doing?....because there arent too many (more like none) 5'8" tall guys that are over 200 lb on the natural stage....

The reason I bring it up is if you are on gear, it could be a hormonal issue....

I was just wondering is there anything else I can do to alleviate this feeling

Well, the problem could be what Barno1 talked about, however I have never experienced a "sugar detox" period before, I suppose its possible. But its most likely that your diet needs to be tweaked.....but you "cant" post your diet.....so......

Oh...yea.....there are those magic pills you take and your whole prep becomes super easy and you feel great the entire time....just take a couple of them. :D

Def disagree here, like oak said...if the diet is that intolerable at the start then its not optimal imo. I always tend to gradually feel more like sh*t.

Op, diet drinks are your friend...thats all I have for you man

Wow.. way to kill your own thread.. slapping down help or any advice/motivation anyone can give... lol I dont understand why you can't post something so generic as macros but anyway.

I too think that the 1st couple weeks of dieting is the worst part. Not that Ive ever been competion lean which I am sure sucks alot more but the beginning sucks too.

I went to a pumpkin patch with my wife, daughter and son like a week and a half out. All I remember is just standing in one spot not wanting to walk around because walking like 50 feet was grueling. Fun times.

And I go to the gym at 5 am LOL. A good pre-workout supp, good music, and plenty of motivation. Nothing was going to stop me from achieving my goal.

I was never 3%, not sure where I was at. I felt great, almost euphoric, once I started carbing up.

When you get lean and depleted at the end of prep, 90% of your day is zombie land......but thats the beauty of training.......the carbs beforehand ;). Even 30 or 40g of carbs just prior to training is enough to wake you for the short burst.

He has found "THE" top secret ratio. ;) So secret that the nutrients are weighed down to the milligram.

Cycle your carbs. Since macros can't be posted for some reason, try eating a lot of carbs one day, a few the next day, and then zero the following day. Then repeat the cycle. Keep your protein high all the time. You'll feel much better than going with a just a few carbs every day. If you can't handle it, then just skip the show. Pretty simple. Life's too short to be miserable. Maybe a prep diet is not for you right now. Try again some other time.

meditation...drugs...sex...hobbies...anything to distract you from recognizing your internal misery.

what makes you feel good/happy when you aren't dieting?

First part sucks, last part sucks even more. The middle is all gravy as you get leaner.

First part sucks for me cuz my body is in shock that it doesn't get all the calories I've been feeding it for months before hand.

The last part sucks because you are so lean that your body is craving anything it can get yet you have to keep your daily intake at a deficit.

funny you say drugs lol

i started smoking my last cut, and quit after prep was over

apparently the nicotine acts as an anti-estrogen(for what it's worth, it did make me look leaner-less water retention I guess) and raises leptin

but mainly I just used it so I could have a *** when I wanted food lol, actually worked nicely......still felt like a zombie though

I'm going to agree with most guys on here. It sucks at first, then you're cruisin' for quite some time, but once you get to the nitty gritty, the mind games come into play, the anxiety, the cravings for random foods you'd never even think of eating normally lol... it's a wonderful and thrilling ride :).

I have only had 2 days this prep where I felt somewhat like a zombie. I only had a few hours sleep the previous nights though. I'm only about 6.5 weeks into prep, so I still have a while before I have to start dragging myself off the couch to go to work lol.

LOL at the cravings of random foods. I think I drooled at a few dog food commercials during prep.

Interesting. Hmmmm.

One of my rules in selecting a trainer is that I am free to ask him whatever I want or need to know. No magic "no one goes behind the curtain" advice.

I dont want to bash anyone or cause unnecessary concern but I would be very careful about "secret" advice. And my trainer would be the first person that I would ask this question to. Again, I have never felt like a zombie right out of the gate because I really dont drop my calories all that low at the start, but apparently others do. But if you continue feeling horrible all prep, I would question your trainer because as Rsardinia says the bulk of the fat burning should be gravy....just trickling that fat onto the carbohydrate furnace for a few months should be fairly easy. Now the last 5-10 lbs might be pure torture but thats to be expected.

The cigarettes is an interesting one......havent heard that before. Ever tried puffing on one while you were out running cardio?? ;)

Yeah, you shouldn't feel like a zombie right out of the gate. There's no reason to. Take it up with your trainer. He either has good reasons for what he's doing or he has no clue. Either way you need to know at the BEGINNING of your prep and not later on. If you can't talk to your trainer or coach about it, find another trainer or coach.

I was being sarcastic. Usually, my cardio isnt the biggest tax on my cardiovascular performance.....aside from HIIT, its legs day. You cant squat, deadlift, or lunge when youre coughing up a black lung. But it sounds smoking was more of an occasional thing for you rather than a habit.
