You could try running a check disk to see if you have any bad sectors on your hard drive.

How do you have GRUB on your PC if you've never used a unix based system?

ever heard of grub4win?

Grub is just a bootloader. You dont have to install linux to use it...

No command line to type "fixmbr"? Thats harsh. Hmm.

Whats happened imo is that your loader was on the HDD you removed.

Download one of these bootdiscs. http://bootdisk.com/, boot from it and in the console enter "fdisk /mbr".

Guides are halfway down the page on How To.

Edit: Recall lol, the loader is looking for the HDD that is no longer there. Still try the above.

Simplest solution is always the best....

When you switched hard disks did you remember to set the new jumpers on the back to MASTER. As it is probably on SLAVE.

Obviously, but the only way GRUB would get installed without your knowledge is during an OS install, and OS install will only put GRUB on if it is *nix based.

^this

I'm thinking OP tried to install a linux distro and overwrote his windows MBR with GRUB.
