I'm considering getting arthroscopic surgery for my shoulder dislocations. I've had around 40-50 sublexations/dislocations in the past 3 years. I should have gotten the surgery when i first realized it would be a reocurring problem as it has basically ruined my football career. anyway. this will most likely be my last week of football (the only source of the injuries). but after high school i'm attempting to train as an oly lifter. I have never attempted oly style lifting. I'd like to do it for a nearby school and hopefully be successful.
I'm wondering if the surgery is necessary due to the overhead lifting style. I want to get as much practice in as possible so i can potentially get some success and money for tuition and dont want to prolong gains if it is unecessary. i've read the recooperation is between 4-6 months. opinions? preferably from someone who has who has experience with it

on the thursday of march break 2009 @ 11:30 pm i was hit by a car going 80 km, i had an open book fracture and 3 broken ribs + a broken jaw and fractured cheek, also the doctors managed to pull out a piece of glass from my right rib cage the size of a pizza slice OUCH!! its the year 2010 almost a year and a half still i have damaged unhealed soft tissue in my shin hurts like a bitch when i squat run jump clean jerk anything and everything that gets to do with my legs, iv got my compartment syndrome in my left shin fixed through numerous visits to the doctor. now turns out things could have been better if i did 2 simple things stopped all sports ie track now currently weightlifting and if i just followed up with my doctor regularly as appose to prolonging it till a year later. im scared of doctors and hospitals - Therese never any good news - so my best bet see your doc immediately and wait till you have made a full recovery before you try weightlifting if the shoulder is really that bad.

when i went to the dr he told me that cartilage had worn away from the inside of the socket and i had the choice of surgery or pt but he said the pt could never actually fix the problem, just lessen it.
basically i want to know if shoulder dislocations are common for the sport. idt c&j's would bother it but idk about snatches.

Don't know if you saw my thread, but I dislocated my shoulder doing snatches this last Wednesday- getting an MRI to see the damage that's done and assess whether I need surgery or not.
Have you gotten an MRI done yet?

in that case, yes if you are going to weightlift do what ever you can to fix your shoulder, btw if it bothers you in the jerk it will most likely bother you in the snatch and clean.
