^^^^ i think everybody loses their mind during contest prep especially when they start getting down to that lower bodyfat man. Your mind plays a ton of tricks on you and it becomes all mental. No worries bruh its normal.
def man, bulk season should be real nice for you!

yeah i'm shot. test levels suck and my energy all around is low low low. but im lean as fawk :P

------------------------

BTW I have officially decided not to do a second show on the grounds of
1) I dont have enough mass to be competitive
2) I'm hungry as hell
3) I want to enjoy summer bbqs and sushi like the old days

gonna focus on not goin above 170 over the next 2 years... assuming i do everything right i will be able to compete in 2013 in the LW class as a dangerous competitor! bring on the sheiko

good decision on not competiting again this year if you feel that you will not be able to sustain your diet and feel you will not be competitive. That was always my issue because i love to eat, so i had to incorporate staying lean year around with cardio and other things just to be able to maintain.
i think you will be alot more competitive than you think at your comp man. I think we all have doubts on how well we think we will do. My last comp i had doubts in the LW class before i came but you just have to go out there and handle your business.

^^^^ thats what up big dogg. I think you will do better than you believe. Good choice not getting too heavy in the offseason because will make competiting so much easier and i feel overall i look better and feel better.
Still have a couple more weeks left to really bring the pain in.

so berto talked about how many of his athletes hit PRs well into and sometimes all the way through the prep. Now, I'm not lucky enough to be one of his athletes (yet) but he was right.

@158~ I rack pulled 405X4 (before my cut 405X1 for a sldl was my 1rm)

man we can all call out flaws in our physique. Couple months back when i competed i did the exact same thing, legs were not cut enough, one leg looked bigger than the other, small bis, etc.
is there a reason you didnt want to start out at novice? i hear ya if you are going to compete then you want to compete in open. My mind set was if i did all this work i want to compete with others that are in the same boat which was just starting out

i can feel that man. I felt so much more confident competiting in the novice class because i knew it was people just like me in that group. Open to me were for more experienced competitiors. We all like to compete for fun, but DEEP down we all want to place well. From the sound of your comp novice will give you just as much competition. Regardless im sure you will enjoy your experience man and still have time to shed.

I don't think this is a bad idea IMO. The first one is to get your feet wet, build confidence, learn, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

If you want, you can always find a show that's close but at a later date, stay close to contest condition and hit that one up as well :)

zbert
06-06-2011, 03:40 PM
exactly billy, i would definitely do novice which puts you up against others in the same boat. My first comp i know being in the novice division i was much more comfortable because i felt the judges knew i was doing this for the first time and cut us all some slack with posing etc. When you enter into that open division you are fair game.

bwelch1985
06-06-2011, 04:44 PM
Dude you ARE a novice competitor! The class exists for first timers and IMO it's arrogant to assume you are too good to compete in a novice class.
At my first show in 09 I was beaten in the novice class by a 41 year old powerlifting champion!
Start at the bottom and work your way up bro. You've got a great physique and you've busted ass all prep long. No reason to short change yourself by jumping straight into an open class w/ seasoned competitors.

Eric-B
06-06-2011, 06:38 PM
You can crossover between novice and open right? No reason not to really, even if it costs a little extra. It'll give you a chance to be compared to more athletes and get better feedback. It's the first time bro, all about the learning experience. I know you've learned a ton already this prep in terms of diet and training, so treat the contest the same way. I'm doing novice/open in my first show, no shame in it.

Bnizzle163
06-06-2011, 06:51 PM
If he's doing the Herc, I don't think they allow crossovers... could be wrong though.

I have to agree with Britt though. A lot of peeps in open are there because they've won a novice division and are no longer allowed to compete it novice. Most, if not all, would still run novice if the rules didn't say they couldn't.

drop the ego big dogg and compete in the novice class where you would fair better against your competitors. I would be extremely pissed if i competed in the open class and did not place, when i could have competed in the novice class and either won or placed well.
It is all about the experience man but do not take away the joy of placing well because of your ego

Brit, yesterday was hardllllyyyy a binge.. had it planned to eat an inhuman amount of carbs since tuesday... tues/wed/thurs were 150c-147c-175c all around 1700-1800 total cals and under 40g fat with 700 cal cardio... all three days. Next 3 are also low days til tues. when I have 1 more refeed... and then the comp is sat. So in hind sight if i did this right I woulda been at a higher carb count on low days regularly but the past few week's binges kinda threw me off. However I am noticing more leg vascularity/striation... took a 3 point caliper test again and am down another bf% pt. So unconventional? wrong? prob... is it working to some extent? def. Will I be this lax and freestyle when I come back in 2013 --- helllllll no. But I gotta tell u, I've enjoyed the prep... the binges have kept me sane... and regardless of the fact that I didnt condition as hard as I wanted to... for the first time around with no real coach, and the thought "this is just for experience bc u aren't developed to anywhere near where I needa be" lingering in my mind... all the time... I'm proud of my accomplishments.

refeed MW: 156.8 - today's MW: 159.2 - today's post dump MW: 158.3 (EDIT)

a 2.2lb increase after 4,000 cals and heavy meals til about midnight without droppin a deuce makes me a happy boy... could it be that I put on .5lbs of fat from yesterday.... possibly.... does that half a pound of fat add to my sex-factor definitelyyyyyy (lol jk).

All-in-All

2011 prep has been a serious learning experience... bumps and delays along the way... but i am a happy camper and i'm gonna go in to NYC on sat and spank the novice class.

I just can't relate to this mindset at all. If you're going to do it why not put 110% into it? It's going to suck standing up on that stage and thinking "What if..."

Besides, do you think it's going to be any easier in 2013? It seems to me you're just rationalizing your lack of discipline to me. I'm behind you all the way brah (no homo) but what I quoted up there is straight loser talk.

no "what if" comin from me... more like "i could have had more discipline" . . . is that loser to say? or is it realistic. does it make a difference? not rly... all my intentions for this attempt were to get an idea of how it works... to learn the ropes... learn how to diet... learn how to train properly... never claimed to be perfect at it. a lotta ppl will say its best to learn from other's mistakes... however im feelin really good about what i've done here.... and lemme clarify.. i'm not developed enough to feel confident competing against experienced, well developed, and way more deserving athletes... I knew it from the beginning that the only way i'd have been able to compete in open was if i had unreal conditioning... there is no excuses to be made here just room to improve on. I dont think 2013 will be easier but I do know that here are things that do and don't work, here is where u need to increase discipline etc. so the experience from this time around will most certainly give me an advantage over where i was this past december. I have trained religiously, posed many times a week for months and months, lost ~30lbs, and maintained strength... do i think i coulda done better? of course.... am i dissappointed with myself... absolutely not. as i said, "i've enjoyed the prep". Isn't that the ultimate goal? bc who really gives a **** if you are leaner than the next guy, bigger, stronger... what does that matter if u kill urself trying to get there and don't enjoy it. In conclusion my friend... it is weak minded to have fallen victim to a feeling like hunger... but i have only grown as a person, and regardless of not doing my best with bodybuilding... I have learned a ton... I am thankful for ppl like you who show care and interest in my progress... that means a lot... just know that i am happy

Reading this makes me realize that you already defeated yourself going into this prep. Have you seen my physique?? I AM NOT a mass monster. I have nowhere NEAR the size of a lot of natty pro's. Heck, there's natty pros out there that aren't that big to begin with... and what happened with me this season? I won an open lightweight division in the INBF. It wasn't because of my size or my experience, it was because I gave it 110%, start to finish. I didn't expect a win, I just expected to show up my best and know that not a single obstacle that stood in my way would stop me along my path.

You just need to have a better attitude. You need to be more confident in yourself and your abilities brah. After all, you'll only get to do your first prep once, right? :)

i disagree. i'm totally positive towards this. like i said i learned a whole lot this time around and have no regrets. yeah coulda binged less or not at all but thats it. i trained hard as hell. put in focus every single day and have become a stronger person. Confident in myself? that has never been an issue with me... lets be real tho, i started in september of this past year for me to expect to win at the herc in open is a far fetched dream. call me defeated or whatever u wanna call it but it's the truth. i see where u n erick are comin from but this was trial and error period. Althought i could have I don't wish i did it any differently... no regrets.. just a better understanding of what it takes.

At the end of the day, I think you walked into this prep w/ a certain cockiness and swagger that eventually slowed you down and prevented you from coming in your best.

BUT, by sticking w/ it for so long, I think you learned A TON about what prep is REALLY like and the kind of suffering it REALLY takes to come in shredded. I think next time you go through this you'll be able to channel that confidence/cockiness into much more positive results.

Rather than being confident that you can binge and recover (or even look better), next time you'll be confident in your ability to shrug off opportunities to cheat and you should be more than ready to push past all the obstacles that undoubtedly will come your way b/c you know what it's like to stumble on them from your experiences this go round.

You've got the right mindset brother, and even though this prep was a bit of a cluster f*ck (lol just being honest), you've emerged w/ a stage worthy physique and enough experience to make your next journey to the stage damn near PERFECT!:)

honestly bro I think you looked better at 5 weeks out when I saw you in person, at least in the upper body. Maybe you're spilled over some from the big refeed, but still a noticeable difference. I know you wanted to get back to eating "normal" and get the libido back and all that, but I'm sure you know the binges set you back a bit in terms of conditioning. With that said, you've definitely come a long way this year and I know this is just the beginning. Legs do look a lot leaner too now that I look at the pics again.

Finish this week strong and have fun out there.

I gotta say that I love Florida. There were some hilarious dudes making jokes about how they develop their forearms as they are benching 145lb dbs haha. first thing i see when i walk in is some guy pressing 495. Def a cool gym, good features, an internet cafe, MMA center, raquetball... basically the works. Tons of machines, very heavy dumbbells, and a great atmosphere. Truly a pleasure to work out there.

I'm out of the loop here Jeremy, help fill me in.

What exactly happened during your prep that others are referring to on the previous page?

basically... i didn't committ to the diet as hard as i could have... due to the cocky thought in my mind that the weight will come off no matter what i do... So over 7 months of dieting I binged prob on average 2x a month... slowing my progress down - 2 steps forwad and 1 step backwards. I was explaining my thoughts on the matter when everyone decided to comment which all had validity. I kinda let myself be mentally weak in situations where I could have had more self control. Ultimately my conditioning is off and I could have competed in lightweights but I have dropped into novice because of this. but as it's been said... this is a trial run, a learning experience. Now I have the ammunition it takes to come into a prep full force with a clear mind and clear vision. I know now what I can and cannot do and thank everyone for their concern. I am a stronger more rounded person after this prep and the cockiness I had coming in is settling to a humble understanding of how difficult and overall time consuming and taxing on the mind this journey is.

Excellent attitude and display of character Jeremy! You are going to make a VERY good natural bodybuilder for years to come. I know we were hard on you, but it's b/c of your potential and obvious dedication. Not many people would slip up THAT MUCH and stick w/ it for 7 months! You've got a lot of heart and will power my friend.

I look forward to seeing you on stage this weekend brah!

thanks a lot brit def looking forward.. the excitement is building. Got a simple routine so I know i'll stick it hard. I was gonna do something funny but I figured it was kinda cocky so i'm gonna go traditional style. Anyways what u guys said means a lot to me and today at my dad's father's day party I fended off the hunger, the bagels, lox, pie, cake... only drank xtend and now im cookin chicken :) As you know I'm a total carb-head (just made that term up but it fits well) so today... and tomorrow is gonna be very hard.

here's today's log.. very hard.. but well worth the focus and determination.

As I said, I was given the chance to go and work out with my friend Mike (MikeK46) and we had a great lift. First I gotta say, the outside appearance doesnt do the gym justice. Great place to train, filled with gorgeous women. As all LA Fitnesses do, there are racquetball, basketball, a huge pool, beautiful bathroom/lockerroom, tons of equipment, and did i mention hotties. There is a lounge set up in the locker room which is defintely a cool thing to just chill and unwind after a lift or bball game while you catch your breath or eat a post workout meal. Mike and I practiced posing and he guided me on this final leg of my journey (peak weak). Gotta mention how ****ty the water fountains are... i'd say 3/10 but.... there are 8 water fountains so it's only fair to give them bonus points for being in surplus :P even in the locker room! which i have never seen. Couple heavy bags and an AB dedicated section were cool additions. Mike and I walked right in as if we owned the place he must be the governor of LA Farmingdale. All-in-all it was a successful workout and I enjoyed my time there. Oh and all LA Fitness's have great spin class rooms! Thanks again mike.

basically... i didn't committ to the diet as hard as i could have... due to the cocky thought in my mind that the weight will come off no matter what i do... I am a stronger more rounded person after this prep and the cockiness I had coming in is settling to a humble understanding of how difficult and overall time consuming and taxing on the mind this journey is.

well said broham, respect

Haha...I guess I forgot to mention that the construction just started a few weeks ago, they're gonna be renovating the front facade and then bringing in new equipment, new carpeting, etc. The scaffolding is temporary while they make the improvements.

And yes...I am the governor of LA Farmingdale. Been going there every night for over 3 years, I know everyone who works there and half the people who train there ;)

DO NOT F*CK W/ YOUR Na/K INTAKE! Not even a little bit. I can guarantee it won't enhance your appearance in any noteworthy way, but it could potentially flatten you the hell out. Keep it constant brah...just like you've been doing all prep long. Now is not the time to start experimenting w/ that.

5th place in a crazyy stacked novice class (of 7 including 1 who took novice overall and looked like a freight train)... took home a trophy and pounded an unreal amount of food after... free eating today.. back to macros tomorrow 50/200/200 cutting out refeeds and reversing slowly.

wiill post some pics soon.

special thanks to Whitefiberz, Baftub, Blazed, Adina, Dad, Dylan, and Joe for support and help backstage.

guys i want everyone to know how humbling this experience has been. It is unreal how amazing the competitors looked in even the novice class, I was so shocked to have placed to be honest. My cocky attitude towards bodybuilding has most definitely subsided and I feel like i will be able to contribute to the movement even better knowing how dedicated one must be in order to prep. It all went by so fast and I can just say I'm thankful for everything, proud of myself, and completely aware of my flaws this past prep.... 2 steps forward and 1 step back will not be my style in 2013... and until next time.....

The Final Thoughts

I have become a more humble person from this whole experience. I truly understand what kind of dedication and focus it takes to go to the next level. I will focus on my conditioning and size over the next two years to come back as a competitive lightweight in 2013. Back to the weights, I'll see you on the other side.
