I'm looking for an accredited, online university that has a good Nutrition/dietician program, focusing on individual health and fitness...a holistic program (i.e. whole body) would be even better. If you have a M.S. in Nutrition I would REALLY appreciate your input!!

In Australia you have to have completed a 4 year degree that is recognised by the DAA with a credit average and be a registered dietitian before you can begin to look at a masters. I think internationally it would be something similar.

It is not something you can do over the internet on your days off from work!

Nope, not a dietician yet...but it's starting to sound like that should be my first step. My company will help pay for advanced degrees...but not something like R.D.

I've found several accredited online programs, but the curriculum isn't what I'm looking for...they're mainly public health, huge group stuff. I'm looking for more individual oriented, athlete specific courses

I do not know of any reputable schools with online programs that fit what you are looking for. However, I think your best bet for a Masters would be to go with physical classes instead of online ones. You will spend a lot of time and money on this so you might as well get a degree from the best school you can.

My understanding is that most schools aim more at the public health aspect of nutrition because it's a broader field with a lot of potential but a good school will let you specialize.

Is the problem that no schools in your area offer advanced degrees in nutrition?

Also, do you have any background in nutrition? If not I would suggest going the R.D. Route first.

I suggest looking into the RD route as well to get a whole body approach on nutrition. Also, most master degrees in nutrition allow you to specialize in sports nutrition, pediatrics, public health, wellness, etc ontop of the required courses for a MS in nutrition. If you do not want to go the RD route and want to do something strictly along the lines of wellness/health and fitness, look into some ex science or general health studies programs with possibly a minor in nutrition.

I'm studying at the IIN (http://www.integrativenutrition.com/). it's not a degree program though it is just a certificate.

brah you cant do anything with your RD.

the only way to get your RD is to take the RD exam.

the only way to take the RD exam is to get a Dietetic Internship at an accredited institution.

the only way to get a Dietetic Internship is to have an amazing resume and to complete CADE accredited schools with DPD courses.

"What do I need to do to become a RD?
To become a RD you will need to:
Enroll in a CADE-accredited or approved Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at either the bachelor's or master's degree level. The program director will evaluate your previous academic preparation and identify the courses that you would need to complete at that institution to meet the academic requirements. The dietetics program director can advise you of your options. Once the required coursework is completed, you will receive a DPD Verification Statement.
You will then need to apply for and complete supervised practical experience in a CADE-accredited Dietetic Internship Program (DI). After completing the DI, you will receive a DI Verification Statement.
You will then be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians to become credentialed as a RD, registered dietitian.
Or:
Enroll in a CADE-accredited Coordinated Program (CP) at either the bachelor's or master's level. This program combines academic coursework and supervised practical experience in one program. The director will evaluate your previous academic preparation and identify the courses that you would need to complete at that institution to meet the academic and supervised practice requirements. The dietetics program director can advise you of your options and how to apply to the CP. Once the required coursework and supervised practice is completed, you will receive a CP Verification Statement.
You will then be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians to become credentialed as a RD, registered dietitian.

You can access contact information from the lists of CADE-accredited or approved CP, DPD, and DI programs. If you wish to complete a master's degree at the same time you are completing the RD requirements, contact DPD or CP programs that offer a master's degree option. Please refer to the Education Pathways Flowchart entitled "Career changers/2nd degree - pathway to RD.""
