View Full Version : how long will it take to get my power clean from 185 to 225?

srs. i just cleaned 185 this morning for the first time. it was also my first time cleaning in 4 months (old max = 145 lol) how long do you think it'll take till i clean 225 if im cleaning once a week. (heavy) sets of 1-2 reps.

try a different set/rep sheme, like for me i am on a 5x5 workout routine. Percentage's in order are 80%, 85%, 90%, 85% 80% of my 1 rep max. This has worked great for me as my power clean went from 185 to 220 during the season and i could jerk it as well. Also really try to focus on great form too when doing power cleans. Hope this helped.

Power Clean Quick Max Peak: (notice how the dynamic of the exercises change and at the end you are only doing the scoop clean. This is for recovering and letting the plyometric and strength movements to set in and be represented 2-3 weeks after which will be your max week)

week 1 (this is only your olympic lift day)

Clean (from Floor)
5x4 115lbs (2min rest between sets)

Box Jumps (24in box)
4x8 (2min rest between sets)

Rack Deadlift (bar should start just below the knees)
4x5 80%

week 2 (This is only your olympic lift day)

Clean
5x3 225lbs (2min rest between sets)

Box Jumps (24 Inch box)
4x6

Rack Dead lift
4x3 85%

week 3

Clean
4x3 135lbs (2min rest between sets)

Single Leg box jumps (12 inch box)
2x6 each leg

Rack Dead Lift
3x3 90%

Week 4

Scoop Clean (start just below the knees)
3x4 125lbs

Scoop clean pulls (start just below the knees)
3x4 55% (speed)

Single Leg Box Jumps (12 inch Box)
2x4 each Leg

week 5

scoop clean
3x2 140Lbs

scoop clean pulls
3x2 65% (speed)

NO JUMPS

Week 6
Scoop clean
1x4 125lb
1x3 135lb
1x2 145lb

week 7
scoop clean
1x3 135lb
1x2 145lb
2x1 155lb

week 8
1x3 145lb
3x1 155lb

week 9 Recovery Week
3x5 125lbs

week 10
Max out week (do it like this)
start low and go up 110-15lbs per attempt.

Now remember that you are 15yrs old and strength can come quickly. So adjust the #'s so that they are not too easy on the days you attempt 1-3 reps.

There's no exact answer to this question but it does truly depend on how hard you work. If you take your time and don't really care, it could take months. However, if you work hard, you could reach these goals within a month or so.
