Hey just wondering if there are any swimmers on the forums. If there how do yall go about gaining weight and putting on muscle during season. Seems after 2 hours of swimming gym is hard to go to and even eating enough calories is hard because swimming burns so much.

And how effective do you think weight training is for swimming?

weight gain and building muscle during season is pretty simple. it doesnt happen.

any sport is like this. best you can hope is to maintain and thats even tough with the calorie burnoff. wait till february or whenever swimming is over then start to bulk up again.

weight training is good for injury prevention, but there are a number of studies that show it has absolutely no effect on speed

building mass doenst really happen during the season(as pointed out) thats for off season...(though if fast enough you might not even have an off season, as many national meets run well into the summer time)

a good swimming program will incl weight training and have its spaced out appropriately.
you shouldnt have to be thinking it up on yourr own...

I think it plays a good role in the sport. you can find studies to support both sides.
even phelps lifts...

weights during the season will be more about strength and support.
not bulk... if you are young. dont worry about bulk. just enjoy not having it . seriously. to much bulk isnt all that great for swimming and will just slow you down lol lactate.
you will be able to build bulk as you get older. seriously. itll come.
edit: ya you are 16. stop worrying about it. itll be very hard for you to put on serious bulk ... once you hit your 20's...then itll start to happen. Seriously. dont even worry about it.
