Are there any Personal Trainers out there that are also MD's (Medical Doctors). My background before becoming a physician was as an exercise physiologist and I'm now considering working with patients with special needs in a gym setting to help them with their goals as a Personal Trainer that also understands the medicine behind their ailments. Is anyone doing this out there? As a business, not just volunteer hours in a gym...

Why

Why

I'm asking because this is not the norm for how medical care/wellness is delivered and if someone else is doing it I would like to learn more---what are the barriers to setting up such a practice?; are their patients benefiting in a unique way that makes it worthwhile?; can they still make a living doing it? I'm not asking about a medical "spa". I'm asking if there are any personal trainers out there that are using advanced training in medicine to help their patients increase the quality of their life directly in a setting other than an exam room for 15min. It may be too niche of a concept to be used in medical care delivery these days. I believe there are creative ways that physicians can better interact with their patients--especially in primary care where prevention is so important, but underutilized as an area of emphasis. Fitness, at its core, is prevention.
