Off topic a bit but when it comes to a bodybuilder on this forum any of the younger ones should aspire to emulate would be Mr. 'AustrianOak'. I know we have it out once in a while but man, you've got it together dude. Married, kids, 'real job' (unlike me lol), busting your ass in the gym (especially on legs, one of the tougher bodyparts). Seriously dude, kudos to you man.

Being 100% serious here guys---any aspiring young bodybuilder should d ef take a look at his journal. Good stuff. That is all.

What is a real job? I'm a teacher as well and I take serious offense to that. I just want to understand why you think that teaching kids (our future) isn't a real job. If you go home everyday at 3, you're not doing your job as a teacher. Trust me there's too much to do as a teacher to be getting home at 3 everyday.

Yea, because we all know that as soon as 3 hits that they are done. They don't have to make lesson plans, or grade papers at all on their own time.

Not to mention that they are totally under paid and under appreciated and have to deal with punk kids all day long.

OP i agree... oak has really been straightforward with everyone here, put a lot of time and effort into not only bodybuilding, but life outside of it as well, and pushed through some serious down times to get to where he is now... cheers mate

and OoFaP... i'm not even gonna dignify that with a response... (hint: mother is teacher). I'm a TA (teaching assistant) for undergraduate biology labs, and i only have 9 contact hours a week (only see the actual classes that long), and i'm still putting in an easy 26-27 hours a week outside of class. so imagine the kind of work it takes to have 7 contact hours PER DAY...

Wow.......geez. I never had a thread started about me before. I think I am e-blushing. :D Thanks Dan. God has indeed been good to me and you actually made me stop and think about that for a moment as I wake up early this Saturday. I have been blessed in a lot of ways for sure and even though I think I have a lot to complain about.....they are insignificant things for sure.

The truth is that there are a lot of really good guys on this forum though and I have taken my cue from them. When I get into something, i generally dive in with a little bit of an OCD attitude so I have read, read, and read some more. If it werent for guys like Eric, Berto, Tommy, Layne, Paul, J-Bo, Matt S., etc, etc, etc (there a ton more good, knowledgeable peeps).......and even DantheMan (yes, you make me think hard on how to respond when you piss me off) I would be pretty clueless when it comes to this sport. Forums like these are pretty cool because there is so much knowledge out there and all it costs is a little investment in time. But I think its pretty important that you pay it forward. If you know something thats been passed to you......pass it along to the next guy. Thats how this sport is going to grow.

I don't really consider being off 3-4 months a year and getting home everyday by 3:00 a real job but he is a good reliable poster and seems to have a well balanced life.

As for Oofap's comment.......I assume he is kidding. I get ragged on all the time by my father about this (of course all in jest)......he owns an auto-repair business and works very hard (physically and mentally) so when I go to help him out in the summer all I hear "ooooh.....now you actually have to WORK.....what a tough life....blah, blah, blah" :D. The fact is that teaching is a demanding job, but coming from a unique perspective of having worked in that business I know its a different kind of fatigue. Teaching is pretty tough mentally and emotionally but when it comes right down to it, its not "real work" like im out laying bricks all day long. Kids can be awesome to work with but there are days (usually 18 weeks into contest prep) when I would like nothing more to go get a "real job".

......but its those nice long summers that keep me coming back for more.......oh and Christmas break, winter break, spring break, martin luther king day, columbus day, ........eh.....who am I kidding.......its not a real job. ;)

Haha. Well I consider it more 'real' than what I do right now (work at a hotel) or someone working in rite aid (which I've done), and I've been a laborer in construction before and I don't consider that a real job either. Just sayin.

What's funny Sean--is that if I had you as a teacher (no matter the grade) I'd give you a hard time every single day and probably be in detention (or whatever punishment your district doles out) a lot...but we'd probably both get a kick out of each other :-p

"Real" is a relative word. We need people to work at hotels and Rite-Aide too, you know. A job doesnt make the man. Its how you do that job that matters the most. I watch that show "undercover boss" every once in a while and was watching the episode with Waste Management.....there was a guy there cleaning port-a-potties and he had the best attitude in the world about his job.....he actually made it look kind of fun.

Basic point is that I realized yesterday on one of my many walks that Oak is one of the more BALANCED competitors/people who train hard on this site.

So young guys should look up to him because he doesn't seem overly neurotic about this stuff.

Lol, I just saw this thread a little late in the game.

I've had the privilege of getting to know the Oak both on these forums and in real life. I can honestly say that he lives up to the hype and more. The man trains like a beast and has a persona that can't quite be captured over the net. During prep, when things got tough, meeting up to train with him every week or so was such a lift. Always calm, confident and encouraging. I'd be so frazzled from beating myself down but as soon as I stepped into the gym and trained with him, everything would just be fine and chill. He's like human Xanax. I don't think it's possible to be in the same room and be stressed or angry. I'm sure he carries those qualities throughout his life, which makes him a great teacher and family man.

I have to admit this form really does help when dieting and prepping for a show. Since so few people around me know what it's like to go through a really lean prep it's hard to relate to anyone about it. This place is a bit of an outlet and relief to know there are others out there that you can freely talk to about the hardships it takes to take your mind and body to a place where few others are willing to go and will never see or feel.

Not to mention all the useful info that can be had from the more experienced people on these boards. Many of you have made this your lifes passion and I for one can appreciate what I have learned and the time some have spent on posting helpful information.

So not to take anything away from Oak but to everyone else as well ... I thank you!

I totally agree Barn...this forum has helped me stay sane this prep. This is only my second kick at the can and my first prep..those who supported me, really supported me, because it was so new. This time around...not so much. I think of this forum as the safe place to go to escape reality for a few minutes and gain that much needed support and motivation, have a few laughs (thanks Dantheman) and learn a few things too.
