How many weeks out should you stop all protein shakes and stick to only clean food?

why do you think you should cut out protein shakes?

You can have all the shakes you want. Unless they give you bloat. If not, drink up. The word "clean" really doesn't mean anything. Hit your macros and don't worry about how you get there.

Agreed......I use shakes up to and the day of the show. Unless your react badly or don't digest them well why cut them out? And, if that's the case then you probably shouldn't use them at any time-off season or prep.

Didn't Layne do a study on whole foods vs. liquid meals in regards to how thermogenic one was vs. the other? I'm pretty sure he did and found that liquid meals were more thermogenic.

Yep.
Well, he didn't conduct the study, but he posted it.

I only did mine post-workout because food fills me up more than shakes but It doesn't mean I stayed away from them for any specific reason other than that. I started Solution 5 halfway through and that helped fill me up great.

Protein shakes are just protein, why would that make much of a difference? The worse you can get from them is protein gas which is enough to ruin most any person's perception of you being a good person.

LOL. Can you elaborate on that?

I appreciate all the responses, I didn't realize nobody cuts them out. My trainer has cut out my protein shakes as well as Crystal Light for me, i'm exactly 1 week out. I'm happy to report that I am drinking a protein shake as I type this :)

Yep. Ironically, I used shakes show day because I was starting to get major gas/bloat from poultry. I never had a problem with it until about 6 weeks out and it got horrible. I had to cut the poultry completely. I rocked out beef, and some whey on show day. The even stranger part is that 3 weeks after the show, my body started digesting poultry without issue again. Weird.... still haven't figured it out.

ask your trainer for a hard definition of what "clean food" is sometime....do it after the show though

Hany believes shakes slow down fat loss, so he has his clients drink liquid egg whites blended with fruit PWO. lmao
BTW OP - Are you from Sarasota?

In Layne's precontest article he suggests dropping them Wednesday, just because it "may" cause bloating in some people. I follow this suggestion because of previous lactose issues, and real food is sooo good!

Something that is confusing me.
Cutting protein shakes is not necessary, yet I assume you have been working with your trainer throughout your whole prep and diet.
Now he has said to cut them out (which is fine to do - people were just saying there is no scientific reason to) and you are going against him/her??? Do they know this?

I'll just chew it raw.
