Calling all personal trainers out there! My brother Adam Joye, who is 24, has schizophrenia and is forced to take a medicine that caused him to gain about 100 pounds in 3 years. The beer and pizza did not help. The medicine, when taken, knocks him out for 12 hours making it almost impossible to get him up early and on a regular workout schedule. So far I have been able to change his diet to the recommended 1500 calorie intake for a pre--diabetic and get him on the treadmill for 40 minutes a day. He is also going with me to the gym 4-5 days a week working on Chest/Arms/Shoulders/Glutes-Hamstrings-Calf's on one day and Back/Kicks-Dips-Pull-ups/Leg Press/Hip Abduction etc. We go in 2 day interval and we give him a break on the third day for just walking 40 minutes. We do this 2 times a week and on the 7th day we have him Jump rope for 20 mins. Our goal, set by the doctor, is to get him down from 240 to 170 his target weight. He is 6'0'' and medium build. In 2 weeks he has lost ten pounds with the diet and working out together. Is there anything else or different I could be doing to save his life? He will be have his blood sugar tested again in a few months with what were hoping to be a better test result that the last one which deemed him "pre--diabetic." I have taken it on as his brother, who is at my prime fitness level at age 27, to give all my effort and education to him throughout his serious endeavor. I have him getting use to the weights, not lifting to many sets just 3 sets at each machine. He is exhausted after the 1.5 hour workout each day. He then walks 40 minutes after the workout. I seek any help from anyone to improve his life, that before this, was already so horrible for him. He has become more clear headed and I do not want to push him to hard or hurt him. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Everything sounds good, but even if you get him down to a healthy weight do you think he'll be able to keep it off?
