So the journey begins here on 23 Aug 2010. My quest to hit 240 was shooting for the stars and I came damn close. I ended contest prep in '09 with several second places, a few class wins but came up empty handed for a pro card. My goal for the offseason was to get huge, lift big, and work on weak areas. I accomplished all three.
Final Measurements:
Height- 5'11.5
Weight: AM- 230 PM- 234
Arms: Flexed 17.75 R / 17.5 L
Chest: Flexed 49
Waist- 35in
Thighs (thickest part)- 28
Calves- 17
I have a Physical training test with the USAF in 5 weeks as well as a vacation to puerto rico when my wife returns from Iraq. The game plan is to diet for around 14 weeks until her return. I will be eating 3500 cals and doing 3-4 days of cardio. I want to lose no more than 1.5 lbs a week. After I get this water bloat off, I want a slow steady diet

subbed but late, and I think once you've hit the top end offseason weight a slow cut really is best, I haven't lost any strength or size and I started alternating months of cutting and maintenance after I hit 220 at the end of april, cut for may, maintenance for june, cut for july, maintenance for august, cut for september then I'm going to be on a tiiny little surplus until prep starts in January. Maintenance months strength went up, cut months strength stayed the same or got a bit better....good call big coz, I see a pro card in your future!

Thanks E! You havent missed too much. This thread is going to be long. I plan on doing a ton of shows this year from NPC, to OCB, to NGA, and even an INBF one. I think a slow cut is what makes guys successful esp if they put on a little extra bulk during the offseason. I am looking forward to this years prep bc we are all going to be doing it up big!

glad im not the only one noticing these things. Sometimes you can be super hard on yourself, or blow your own head up. Glad you guys are giving opinions. I got my lower lat inserts beefed up a bit so my taper at this point isnt as noticeable but my torso wont look so long and stringy once I get lower in b.f. Definitly a downfall to my physique but I have been working hard to correct it. Great to have you guys on board!

Not all angles can be taken into consideration, but thicker everywhere, and from a bulked point of view, legs have blown up, and even lats which were a strong point anyways. Chest even shows some, but I believe the rest is going to show A LOT more during a contest. I knew what I would be working with, good thing I have been busting balls because you have made some amazing improvements.

Notes: Wish I had some time and money, would love to do a study regarding high altitude/low baromatric pressure/ 100 supplemental oxygen effects on training. It seems I hit huge numbers days that I fly. Flew 3 hours with supplemental oxygen, slept for 3 hours and than hit big numbers. It always seems this way. All placebo aside, usually people are drained after flying unpressueized by I want to see the relation. Raised RBC's maybe? Who knows..... I know guys train at altitude but that is in an oxygen depleted enviroment to essential get their bodies to achieve the same effects as Blood doping....my study would relate to over abundance of oxygen and o2/blood sat levels post flight

additional oxygen source. we lug these big ass green consoles on board and hook hoses up to them. It supplements the ambient air and gives you more percentage of 02 to keep sat. levels up

Not all angles can be taken into consideration, but thicker everywhere, and from a bulked point of view, legs have blown up, and even lats which were a strong point anyways. Chest even shows some, but I believe the rest is going to show A LOT more during a contest. I have. Thanks for the suggestion. I didnt post the pic bc I am still hefty. Once I lean down its one of my better poses. I usually hit a hands on hips and go right into the crab. I share similar structure to Dennis Wolf and when I hunch over my traps come alive. I am not a big fan of that pic bc I was focusing on keepin my chest high instead of having my traps come out.

Looks like your cut is coming along real well already being down to 215...my guess, from looking at the pics from the end of your bulk, is that you could compete at a very shredded 195 lb weight, which means you'd only be like 20 lbs away from that weight. So if you lost 1 lb per week for the next 20 weeks, that would mark you being contest ready by January 12th....I don't think any competitions start til like April though, but you definitely have a lot to be excited about lol

Kind words! 195 is pushing it, I am thinking 185- 190 tops. I am focusing on shows all year. It will be a slow cut until 1 dec. Pig out when my wife comes home from deployment and than a strict ass 16 week diet until 30 Aug for the Texas Shredder. I have a ton of shows lined up but alot of the dates arent finalized yet for 2011.

I'm a fan of yours bro but with all due respect that is the worst T-bar row form I have ever seen. You are putting a huge amount of strain on your spine and on top of that your ROM is very short and you're getting maybe 3 seconds of TUT.
Granted it is obviously working but you could take four plates off that bar and get more out of it while massively decreasing injury risk.
You can train however you want but you're young and it would be unfortunate if you were to injury yourself. Poor form on T-bar rows is what ended Ronnie's career after all.

well it will be the amateur orgs of those, so OCB, INBF, and NGA. I am also doing a "tested" NPC show. Its run by a quality promoter and its close to me so it will be a warm up show. I dont plan on cracking top 5 but will see. I plan on bringing a whole new package to the stage. I have the Toney Freeman Disease, if I try to come in big I look flat and if I come in to depleted I look flat. FInding the even balance is tough. Full, big, and grainy is the name of the 2011 game

I cant say for sure they contributed to my back width but I like them so they are definitely a staple item. glad you enjoy them. Back is a huge piece of meat, so I like to hear multiple angles, na mean? Some like 4-5 sets and only 3-4 exercises, I just like variety.

you are such a freaking monster! with versa grips maybe just do double overhand grip for increased safety? I also find its just more comfortable/natural after doing it a few times because your arms are hanging at a more equal length. when you twist to underhand i think the underhand arm is a little shorter. This effect may be exaggerated in someone like you with the go-go gadget arms haha

good point honorable kaufman! Its instinct when I grab the bar for my hands to do that since I have been pulling alt grip for 5 years now. I hit the first 4 sets double overhand but lost all situational awarenes when i got in the "zonnnnnne"

my buddy let me borrow it, but for real bro I would rather watch grass grow as opposed to watching some parts of it. Suppppper slow and Jay's personality is nothing short of a scene out of English Patient. The chin in chest thing is something he does on his controlled movements like smith and H/S machines. I wouldnt suggest doing it on something that your using lots of stabilizer muscles for risk of pulling a neck muscle.

I'm not sure but I think I always tuck my chin on flat bench out of instinct. I think it's because I want to watch my chest while I do it.

Well I started at 230 but bodyweight is so debateable. Your talking water, salt. carbs and everything. I would say more like I lost 12-15 lbs. Only real strength loss wwas squat and a little on pressing which is typical for me. As for now, I am nowhere near even "beach body" lean. I have a video of me posing at 211 and I lost way leaner there but once again I was probabaly a true 204-205 in that video so once I get to that body weight it will be much more noticeable the gains I have made...

I would love to be shredded at 190 but that might only happened carbed up. Weight is but a number but it shows so much progress since I was a depleted 172-175 last comp season. Stay tuned! As for the lat spread, if the dumb locker wasnt there I could have spread a bit more but for now I am just trying to get them to hang lower. Biceps is my weakness (your strength) so at this point I see them holding back as far pro caliber. Will see!

Thanks Paul! Yea through trials and tribulations I have realized that being an ecto who gets a lil pudgey in the offseason a nice slow approach is where its at. In 2009 I dieted from 213 to 175 in 10 weeks and looked like garbage. I continued to diet for 6 more weeks only really tightened up and lost 3more lbs.
My plan is 200 by 1 dec. Around 1 Dec my wife arrives home from Iraq (she too has started her diet) Through Dec and some of Jan, I will be partaking in the holiday meals and restaurant that she has missed, however I will continue to stay around 200. We planned a vacation to Rincon, Puerto Rico in mid Jan. When we return home it will be 16 weeks out from the NPC Texas Shredded promoted by Dave Goodin. Although tested, the policies are much more lax than say INBF or OCB so I will be slightly bigger and less conditioned. From there I have mapped out close to 7 shows that my wife and I will hit. NGA, OCB, and INBF. All pro q's. All the way from Texas, to Jersey, Maryland and VA. I have thought about hiring either Layne or 3DMJ. Will see how things go. As most dedicated bodybuilders tend to do, I overdiet and over cardio. I need a watchful eye to ensure that muscle loss is minimal. At this point I wanna lost close to 1.3-1.5 lbs a week. As soon as strength drops I will try and back off, if weight loss slows I will up the cardio but keep cals the same.
The good thing about your physique right now is everything is looking proportional; I can't notice any glaring weakpoints at this point, although leaning out will tell the trule tale, so the chances of getting your pro card seem pretty high unless your diet fails miserably (keep working hard though lol).

* Note before I write my workout. Through my 5 years of working out, I knew that I had a disadvantage and my forearms would get a pump before my biceps. The cure is it bend your wist back. I did a few years ago but havent in awhile. I read Eric Brosers tip of the day on facebook and it just got me thinking again. I gave it a whirl on all my exercises and what a difference i made. Update: Still alive. Wife just got back from Iraq. Decided to tak a hiatus from the forums. Phase 2 of contest prep is beginning. Got down to a lanky 202. Wasn't very happy with strength or definition. Got back to a fuller 206-208. Slowing down approach even more. Cals will be upped to around 3k and cardio will be increased. Wife likes cardio, and I like eating. What a great relationship haha

Notes: Usually I post weights, but today I was moving too quickly and was not concerned as much with weight as getting a good squeeze. I have been doing a Dorian Yates Style HIT routine for my workouts. I absolutely love it for all bodyparts minus back. I feel that my back needs more volume and lots of sets/reps. My macros were set to be 2700 but I dropped to 2500. We will see how that goes. Gym mirrors and lighting are super deceiving so I look hard, vascular, and veiny but know I am a ways off......17 weeks to be exact ;)

the lean on squats was very normal and acceptable in my opinion, very typical for a guy with your limb length, height, and hip-dominant squat, looks really good imo

Sit at your computer chair just as you are, now stand up. Eh catch that little lean forward? Try getting out of your chair without doing it....eh yeah not normal, damn near impossible.
He has a nice safe squat going on, and for a guy of his proportions and limb length its REAL solid.

Gracis Senor! My legs take closer to 48 hrs to usually get sore. 16 hrs later, I am unable to walk. Some real muscle damage was done, luckily cheat meal was a 22 oz porterhouse!

Well I hate jogging but my wife is a runner and since I moved farther from base I dont have access to the stuff I enjoy doing. For now I have to suck it up, but I also realized that running gets my legs hard as do HIIT bike sprints. I cannot wait to unveil my work on 7 May. Keep up the jogging! Once you stop it takes forever to get back to the same status, take it from me haha

If all works out well I should be a legit 4% at 180lbs on stage. For those that claim to be a bodyfat, get tested with by a real method before you spout of numbers. You might be unpleasantly suprised what comes up. For those that had bod pod done or DEXA, let me know how your numbers turned out. For now, I am embarrassed to post up but maybe Ill come around.

DEXA and BodPOD have a 2-3% variance, calipers can be from 4-7. I always ass 4 to calipers too.

Self diagnosis, IT band is inflamed causing pain in a nerve on my lower left side. Deadlifts and Squats affect is pretty bad. I decided to press through and go back to deads. I am gonna roll, start icing, and wash the sand out of my vagina

Dude I got BodPod tested this past spring and was 18.8%, I said **** that and have been dieting ever since. I got tested a little over a month ago and was 11%... I'm prob in the legit single digits now. It does mess with you though.
Just put up the numbers man, it keeps you accountable.

Don't worry too much about the numbers bro. You have made GREAT strides in your physique, and don't need any numbers to justify this.
