Solid session today with Eric! Killed the 140's! The tempo wasn't the 3-1, but all were done with a slower rep speed and I am really liking the control of the weights right now!

Damn, throwing the 140's around. Beast mode :)

Thanks for posting up the rest of those interviews as well. I saw part 1 and was waiting to listen to the others.

I actually applied to be one of the 3dmj athletes that they prep for free next year. I'll have to sign up for that webinar too!

Oh, and yeah, heard about the snow haha. I'm actually looking forward to a white Christmas since it never feels like Christmas is close being here in Arizona with sunny weather everyday.

Tara ran me through it today and we killed it! :D All of the seated rows were done Yates style, to the navel with a pause at peak contraction! Also, looks like it is going to be an off day tomorrow for TDay.....just going to eat and repair :D

Thanks Evan! Im loving it right now and I am going to continue throwing it in here and there......and I gotta agree with the DOMS too :D I have actually had to take extra days off to help with recovery, but I am really feeling and seeing a difference! So I can't complain with that!! This is definitely the biggest and leanest 220 I have ever been! Really excited to get a little deeper into my offseason.

Went in and killed the legs today. I won't go through the #'s, but I will be back to regular posting tomorrow. Had a pretty hectic holiday and I am happy to be back to the norm...or atleast normal for me! :D

Solid workout! 315 took it out of me today so my last set I lightend up and slowed the rep speed down. The weight #'s are still climbing....slowly...but still are, so no complants. I am also weighing around 220 in the AM so I am pretty happy with the progress so far! Also.....were supposed to get up to 6 more inches of snow tonight, so looks like some more am cardio :D

Thanks Billy. I'm getting closer to where I was right before my last prep even while holding with the much slower tempo.

Also, we only got about 1 1/2 inches of snow last night, but its still coming down.....so its more of a steady state session for me today. My neighbors already think I'm crazy, so I try not to preform it like a HIIT session too often. :D

As for the deload, man 20 reps is quite a bit on those deads. I guess it is all relative though.

Thanks! Ii probably should have stated the deads different, they were deloaded. I reseted after each rep. Wanted to work on the form.

Yep the belt is Cardillo. They have a ton of options and Its really good quality, but when they say 8-12 weeks for the order....its 12 :D

Thanks Jen! I've been wanting to get a custom one for sometime and Tara suprised me on my birthday. Then it was just the waiting game for it to come, now its time to put it to use :D

My goals are roughly 3700....just over today with my last meal :D Im rolling with this for a bit to see how I respond, been here for a little while. Then Im slightly dropping my PRO to just under 300 and upping my fat. Probably going to stay around 3700 Kcals because my weight is holding pretty steady, but still having gains in the gym. Its actually a ton of food because Im only using 3 scoops of whey Isolate per day. Everything else is from whole foods.

Thanks! Yep, there done with the tbar, weged into a corner. My gym actually has a lever bolted to the ground that fits the end of an olympic bar, got pretty lucky to have that one. Give them a try!!

The gym is getting more and more crowded every single day.......good old Gold's Gym Challenge :D I am also going to put together some video highlights from this weeks training and post up on friday or sat. Kept a close stance with my feet slightly infront on the smithmachine. This allowed me to almost hit the pin at the bottom of each rep and kept a slow rep speed with a slight pause at the bottom. Going to feel these tomorrow :D

Lugged them across the gym and got 5 solid reps plus an epic fail on the 6th :p Overall really happy with this one and even more excited about the new atmosphere!! Can't wait to start throwing up some vids from here aswel!!

Nice work on the 150's man. I know what its like to desire a change in atmospher. Milos Sarcevs Kolloseum is about 15 miles from my house but with the Southern California traffic it takes the better part of 35-45 min to get there, so I'm only able to get in once in a while. It always gets me pumped to get away from the club gyms and into a "real" bodybuilding gym.

I have only seen one set of DB's bigger than that and it was at a Powerhouse near my In'Laws. They actuall had a 300lb DB, but I have no idea what you would use it for.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I always forget what its like because Im in a smaller town. It only takes me 5 min each way to get to any of the 3 gyms I go to......so I souldn't complain ;) Im really loving the other gym right now too. Makes me feel like Im going back to the roots...hardcore, gotta search for weights that match, darker and EMPTY!

......and 300lb DB's!!!! That would be awesome!! I can think of a few things to try with them too :p

Still getting used to the other gym and loving it. We were the only ones in the gym the whole time and we are pretty much in overload with all the new oppertunities :D Ty and I started with the Sled because its a little different than the one's were used to. Worked up to 10x45's per side for my working sets. When we were finished, we realized you can put more on the top of the machine :p So there's a goal for next time :D Great workout and ready to kill the chest tomorrow!

a cold gym makes it so hard to get warmed up properly. what did your warm-ups look like for tonight luke?

do you knock out pre-workout cardio before hitting the weights or do you jump right into your acclimation sets before hitting your working sets?

In cold weather I find myself dressed like Kai Greene. Full on sweat suit, until I'm warm then I start to peel off a little at a time (no homo). Damn those resolutioners!!! I haven't been this week yet, but I can only imagine what it will be like. This is the prime reason I use Saturday and Sunday as gym days, to avoid the crowd. Keep rockin it big guy!

Thanks Mike. I usually do a pretty good warm up on the treadmill for 5-10 min. I start at a 3.8mph and work the incline up to about 10% or I'll use the Handbike for a while.... Either way I try to get a "Glow" going :D

Yep, I do the same thing. Dress in layers and slowly strip off as the workout progresses...... And about those resolutioners.....actually thats the reason I have been going to this other gym. Haven't been to Golds since the new year, because of the Challenge they run and probably won't for another few weeks. So far this gym has only had up to about 6 others lifting, but the cardio is full :D

I hear this term, and wanted to get a better understanding. From what I can tell a hybrid sumo is just a less wide stance and/or a closer together hand placement than a true sumo? Is that fair to say?

I hear this term, and wanted to get a better understanding. From what I can tell a hybrid sumo is just a less wide stance and/or a closer together hand placement than a true sumo? Is that fair to say?

Do you ever dead lift conventional?

Yep, I say hybrid because its pretty tweaked just like you said. My stance is not as wide as traditional sumo's. I use a slightly narrower stance with my grip closer to the center of the bar. My hands are actually right on the line from the grips and the smooth part of the bar.

As far as conventionl. That was the way I only pulled up untill last year, other than the occasional traditional sumo added in. I had some slight lumbar rounding and didn't feel them as much in the glutes and hamstrings. So I started throwing them in after seeing Eric and Berto's stance. I found that this style is better suited for my build and I get much more out of them other than just lower back work :D

Im starting to feel much stronger with them now. Better controll and I am able to get more out of the lift than just my back. I plan on really trying to get some big #'s with them soon. As well as 405 as many times as I can......aiming for 27+ :p

Yeah, teaches you different kind of pain....more of a love hate relationship. The most I had to do in one day was 3 open 400m, but my roomate also did the 400m hurdles. He did 6!!! :eek: Now those guys have a screw loose :p

The Decathalon was a blast though! The end of the first day was the 400m....pretty much all everyone had left, you should see people hit that wall on the straightway :D

Thanks Alex! Love'em, but I know what you mean about the back. I hold the bar pretty high on my traps for them, so I have to really be cautious when coming out of the hole.

where you training now?

Im all over the place right now, because of the 1st of the year and Gold's Gym Challenge. I go between the 2 Golds and a 24 hour hole in the wall called The Workout Warehouse......Im pretty much just at the Workout Warehouse as of now for a while, but I love it and there are 150's :p

I try to go between all the gyms, because they all have their high points and its a change in scenery. It is just less crowded here during Jan/Feb and they don't need parking lot attendents ;)

Thanks Jen! Actually the gym was pretty dead! Which, as you know is pretty rare in the month of January ;) One of the lost gems at this gym is that lateral machine. I really enjoy throwing it in, you can really focus on the contraction and Im pretty blasted from them today. Thanks again for the well wishes, the same to you! I see your still pounding away, even with the lack of logging :p. Gotta do it every once and a while. Tara and I are just trying to stay dry :D. It has finally warmed up to 32 degrees.....the down side is all its doing now instead of snowing is rain.....lol


......now on to legs in a few!

Yep, those are wrist wraps. I usually use them on my peak sets. I used to have some wrist issues and have used them ever since. Just like a belt or straps, I try not to be dependent on them so I only use them on a few sets when I go heavy.

As far as failure, it was pretty much all I had left to get that last set. Not so much in the tris/delts, never really do during DB's. One reason I love them so much.

As of right now I am sticking around the weight I really feel comfortable at. Since the holidays I did cut back on the cardio slightly, but as of last week I started up again on 3x a week for 30-40 min. Usually between the Recom bike/stepmill/treadmill. I also work on extra foam rolling and stretching, which I really feel makes a huge difference. I am also going to keep running with these numbers for a bit, because so far I am really having some solid gains with them and I am absolutely loving each and every single lifting session. I wake up excited for the next.....plus, I would usually be starting my prep right now...lol :D

Thanks guys. Funny thing is I was feeling like absolute crap all day, but once we started warming up it just started clicking into place. I was going to go for 555, but held back for that reason. Thats the next goal though. Im going to rotate in some more SLDL for a bit and some high reps with 405 to see what happens.

I like to throw them in every once and a while for some more direct work. I know you can't get away from the indirect use in presses and etc, but I didn't really feel to fatigued so had to throw in. Also, my chest work is usually about 3-4 days before, so plenty of time for recovery.

Yep, should be there. Have to support everyone, plus It's always a great show and well run! Some big boys on that stage, so it always gets me amped!

As far as recovery. I really feel that the way I have my split helps, plus Im not always pushing past failure or doing forced reps since I workout by myself most of the time and have Tara spot me every once and a while. I also rotate in a lighter day and usually drop one bodypart per week, so it really helps prevent overtraining, but I do throw in a deload about every 12 or so weeks. I hate them but you have to do them :D

....but if its in the water, I drink 2 gallons a day :p ...lol

Im really starting to prefer them over back squats. Since I have placed more of a focus on them into my routine I feel I have made some considerable improvements in my legs so far. They also allow me to stay more upright through the movement and have less strain on my back. I don't back squat nearly as much as I used to, weight and frequency, but my size and quality has improved leaps and bounds.

I saw this right before heading to the gym Big J! Have to say, it helped me absolutly kill it! :D

Thanks Mike :D Crazy to think your holding that physique at that age and if you look at all the reigning PRO's there all in there mid to late 30's! Your only going to keep getting better from here too!

As far as mistakes and etc in my early years. I would say following blindly to what others say or do....such as IFBB pros and etc. There wasn't as much info, as far as Internet and etc, so it was word of mouth and etc. Did some crazy things back in the day as far as carb cycling, cutting water, and etc. Also found out the hard way that its not all smoke in mirrors. I was pretty limited here in Washington as far as Federations so I was forced to compete in untested NPC shows. The only feed back I ever got was I needed to get bigger to hang with the lightheavies on stage :p No constructive criticism, just bigger....lol I have found over the years things that work for me and would not change any of my past experiences at all, made me a stronger person in the long run :D

Your deadlift videos inspired me to try your Hybrid stance today but I didn't have much luck with big weights, just more adductor and medial quad involvement. Any tips on using this stance toward a heavier deadlift? I typically use a shoulder width stance with just a bit of back rounding at the start of the lift, almost like a Tim Martin style, although weak as shiiit compared to you guys. Great job man, I'm really re-evaluating what is naturally possible because of people like you!

On the deads, I actually have pretty long legs for my height. When I pull conventional I had quite a bit of lumbar rounding and the change of stance allowed for more leg involvement. Overall it feels much more confortable for me, but everyone is built different. So all you can do is use what feels best for you.

So much respect for those beasty front squats. You looked liked you had a few more in ya as well with 355lbs. Insane!

You must have one hell of a strong core because when I go heavy on front squats (225 plus), it seems like my core gives out and wants to fall forward deep into the set.
