I've been having a lot of lower back pain especially after deadlifts. So my question, should I switch from pulling conventional to sumo because I've heard sumo puts less stress on the lower back. Thanks for any advice.

What you should do is identify any form issues you have in the conventional deadlift, along with any possible medical problems that may be causing this pain. You should resolve these issues because I'm willing to bet switching to sumo isn't automatically going to fix your back pain.

I think my issue is that I round my lower back when going really heavy. I got advice on how to prevent this problem from this forum and it helped fix my rounding a bit but I still have the pain from all the messed up form I had before. It hurts a lot even when I'm doing things such as abs.

Do you really expect someone on a ****ing forum to tell you if switching stances will help your back pain? How about you try it out and see if it helps. If someone told you it would help and it still hurt would you keep doing it? If everyone said no don't do it you wouldn't try it to see if it helped?

Best bet is go have it looked at.

Yea, I'm gonna try sumo out hopefully this week and see how it goes. Thanks.

Heck your still young! Have it looked at and do what the doc says, and you'll be back lifting in no time!......... pain free.

Hate to sound like a mother hen here LOL, but back trouble is nothing to play with.

it helped mine almost instantly
my dead stalled and my back was getting killed
i switched to sumo and at first i lost some weight on the lift but it was because of bad form (i was almost completely upright, squating down to about parelell to grab the bar) but once i figured out i could bend over a little more, my dead has been shooting up and pain free

but really, its a mechanics thing, you need to try it and see of its best for you

I would agree on giving the doc a visit because sumo deads STILL none the less work your lower back, its just the percent of total pressure from the lift put onto your lower back is a bit less than a conv dead, but that pressure is still there.

Best of luck, back pain sucks.
