I currently run cross country and about a week ago i had a religous thing where i can't eat any meat for one month excluding dairy and food that already have eggs in them (ice cream, cake, etc.) And ever since i stopped eating meat i noticed my athletic performace went down. What could be the problem?

You're not getting any protein in.
Unless you're eating a lot of eggs and drinking a lot of milk.
It's nowhere near a balanced diet. Being a vegetarian is unhealthy and stupid.

Probably what HitStick said... not enough protein. Your body doesn't have anything to rebuild itself after your workouts.. and is probably becoming run down.
If you can't eat meat.. try increasing dairy consumption, beans, nuts, or maybe invest in some whey (protein shake powder) to get you through the month.

protein shakes and meal replacement bars.
but i agree about the vegey diet...just ill-advised. humans are omnivores. otherwise we wouldnt have those sharp lil teethers up front

i've been eating a lot of protein (nuts, soy protein, and whey) but i only take about 2 scoops a day. is it bad to be taking a lot of whey?
and is there something that meat has besides protein that increases athletic performance?

Generally getting protein from whole foods is better... but for your circumstance, and seeing how it is temporary.. its not really a problem.
and 2 scoops definately isn't overdoing it.
All I can figure is still A) Not enough protein (2 scoops is only about 50g of protein.. and you would have to eat a ****load of nuts and soy to get the rest of the protein you need)
or mayybbe B) if you completely revamped your diet maybe your body is going into a mini food shock:P I have no science to back that up.. just sounds possible.
I'd still go with A.
Add another scoop of whey and eat a crapload of beans everyday:P

yea now is th etime to over load on protein shakes, bars, eggs and peanut butter. and eat whole grain, the whole grain bagel i eat has 8g of protein so its pretty good. and i would mostly drink milk and water

if you are not tracking calories I would guess you are probably eating less. Try increasing cals to get performance back and (of course) make sure that your macros have enough balance as well.

Wow salted. I am currently fasting for 18hrs and I see more gains than you. You know why?
This is because you need protein, more precisely chicken breast or lean meat. And drink lots of water, muscles are 70% water. Try soybeans for your vegetarian standards.

I live in a japanese culture and I very rarely eat meat.
i get 70% of protein from soy products. such as natto beans, miso, soy beans.
about 20% from fish and maybe the last 10 from a friends turkey sandwitch or something haha

bullsh*t..
im vegetarian and completely in shape..i run 5-7mi a day...
i lift almost daily and stay in great shape..
you can grab protein from other sources than animals..
i drink two whey protein shakes a day..
also eat a ton of beans, fish, tofu, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, soy products etc..
do your research before you make the assumption that being vegetarian is unhealthy..
you should see some of the stuff the meat you eat goes thru before it gets to your supermarket or table..you'd rethink that statement..
