Jigging is a type of fishing that is usually done off a boat. Pretty much you anchor over a spot that has a fish bed or a fallen tree (or any type of structure where fish would hang out) and you drop a jig (as pictured below) down and pretty much dance it up and down with a little wrist action. Jigging keeps the lure in the hot zone pretty much the whole time and it allows you to fish really deep (things like spinners and crank baits can only go so deep and are more ideal for shallow water). Most people put rubber grubs, minnows, worms, leeches, etc. on jigs as bait.

Not every jig looks exactly like that, but its pretty much a hook with a weight attacked.
Trolling is another type of fishing which is also done from a boat. The choice of bait is going to either be a crankbait or a spinner. What you do is you use whats called a trolling motor (pretty straight forward, its an electric motor that makes far less noise than a gas engine and runs the boat a lot slower). What you do is you put your lines out the back of the boat and you drive the boat around the lake dragging the lures. If you want to troll deeper you let more line out, but you run the risk of snagging **** like trees the deeper you troll. Trolling is typically the style of fishing used for musky and northern pike.
Hope that helped and sorry for the wall of text, but thats just a basic over view
