You know I felt the same way about this kinda stuff, but after reading philip ricardo jr.'s website and he mentions taking this along with sodium/water manipulation and seeing how diced he was in person I'm wondering if he was just shredded either way, or if there really is something to this stuff.

I wonder if he really sheds those last couple % of bf the last 10 days, if so...that's hella nuts!! I'm running my water at 2 gallons through Thursday, cutting it at 8 PM that night, weigh in Friday morning, and Friday will be about a half gallon with more of the water I consume coming from the meals with protein, and sticking to carbing up with dry sources I've used throughout prep...oats and rice cakes, sodium for me has been moderate throughout so not really messing with that, and Thursday night will be taking 1 peak performance cap from Mitotropin, Friday morning take 1 pill and then 1 at night, then Sat depending on condition wise when I wake up at 5 might take the final pill. Only fluids I plan to take in on show day are that of Gatorade just to keep me from cramping up on stage.
How did you run your final peak week in prep for your first Pro show? Same protocol as when you won the pro card?

I honestly think some people are successful IN SPITE of their methods.
IIRC I once read a post by Doug Miller saying that he saw Ricardo Jr. guest posing during the offseason a couple years back and he STILL had striated glutes! Now, don't quote me on that, but if it is in fact the case, I would just say Mr. Ricardo has an insane metabolism and a naturally lean phenotype to go along w/ an absolutely huge amount of muscle he's added over the years.
The water/sodium/potassium manipulations he proposes just don't hold up to current research in human physiology.

I had a similar strategy, just more aggressive on the carb numbers considering we knew my metabolism could handle it. I don't feel I looked as good the day of the show as I wanted to, but I could also have been mind-****ed by seeing those guys in person and just instantly thought of myself as being inferior.

Ya I think you are right. Like Jrod w/ his water manipulation too. I think when you are that shredded, you can do water or no water and still look great. The question is, could he look better or would he look worse if he took in normal water through the show. That'd be something I'd like to see.

some guys can get away with a lot of things....some can't, what I can say for sure, in just looking at guys and what they do on stage....is the MOST guys with the most consistent conditioning don't do anything wacky....but....you will ALWAYS find guys who are successful doing the crazy stuff and guys who are successful doing the not so crazy stuff

I have to agree ... I met a girl backstage once that told me she hadn't had a drink or any food in over 2 days. I must say after pinching her skin fold on her stomach (hey you can still flirt backstage) she was insanely lean.
At another show I was at I saw a girl just chugging a coffee decanter full of water. I didn't say anything but was pretty amazed at how much and how fast she downed that thing. She still looked pretty good after, mind you I could tell there may have been a little bloat or something going on.
So I've learned that if both extremes don't ruin you then it really comes down to prep. I try to be ready early and I don't worry too much about water or diuretics. The most I ever use is drinking little green tea on Fri and maybe Sat morning with breakfast. It may or may not do anything but I like to think it does and I love the taste!

2 weeks ago backstage i kept hearing how after the show they can't wait to drink water that they haven't drank much in 2 days. What made me laugh was that they were holding so much fat that it didn't make a difference. Why do people make themselves suffer by not drinking water but can't suffer enough to diet down to a reasonable bf% for competing.

Because someone totally old school informed them that they would look better by not drinking water for 2 days. That's usually the case. It's a lot easier to think you only have to suffer for 3 days then it is to know you have to suffer for 3 months.

so you understand there is a such thing as a natural diuretic. that it isnt a myth such as the loch ness monster?

Layne has never claimed diuretics don't work, natural or otherwise....he's just disputing the fact that they make you look better.
you maintain a 70/30 ratio of intracellular water to extracellular water.
Pissing out more water doesn't change the ratio, you lose water both intra, and extra cellularly. So, you look the same, just smaller.
Unless you're retaining water from something weird or androgenic drugs, no need for a diuretic.
