PC.
no use in trying to be a unique hipster (mac) or try to alienate yourself from the rest of the computer world (Linux)
I just stick with whats popular and what is more compatile with respect to the current state of the internet.
If the internet ever transitions to a state in which it favors Mac's more, then thats when i'll make the switch but until then, I'm happy where i'm at.

I use both, but prefer my macbook pro by far. Macs are the #1 computer in higher education, and the #1 computer over $1000. Couldn't care less, just throwin some facts out there.

well im not gay or id be on mac so ill have to say PC
The only thing Macs are good for is if you are in art school..
PC's all the way, I'm not paying $1,000 for mediocre hardware just to have a little Apple on my system.

got both
Mac - better browsing, movies, porn, music (in other words, better for chilling)
PC - better work, games, more versatile, i know it thoroughly (can modify stuff).

go with Sony or Toshiba
had toshiba laptop for 4 years, not a single problem (threw it out because it got too old in terms of specs)
currently have a sony vaio laptop (2 year and still going - no problems), however i feel that toshiba has better specs especially for gaming
dont get fooled by cheap HP, Dell, Gateway $hit, it overheats, fails too often and is garbage

Yea, I was looking at a Toshiba the other day at Best Buy. It was around $700 and had a lot of ports, but the designs on it was pretty lame... why do companies do that? I was going to try to find it on the bestbuy site but they're down for updates..

yeah they are not the best looking laptops out there, but they're hella reliable and have very nice specifications for a reasonably low price
if you want a nicer looking laptop - go with Sony VAIO, I have one right now - it looks like Apple Macbook honestly and performs better, however I wish I would have gotten the Toshiba -it blows VAIO out the water in terms of gaming

Im currently a PC guy with a custom built rig for gaming and a sony vaio
but im willing to trade in my vaio and throw some money in to get myself a Macbook pro since i wouldnt be gaming on it. Macbook pro specs give me the ability to game if i really wanted to.

One that you make yourself.
If you mean preassembled, I've heard good things about Puget systems: http://www.pugetsystems.com/
They make a kit for a mineral-oil cooler aquarium computer if you really want silent, heh.

Correction: I built a thousand dollar PC that works better for my purposes (gaming) than anything apple offers.
They're good for a lot of what most conventional users do. My sister is in a Master's program for journalism, and she uses a Mac for personal use (webcamming, chatting, music, etc), but a PC for school/work stuff (the school uses programs that Apple does not support, and programs that require hardware that'd be $2k+ in a Mac vs $800 in a PC).

I'm a PC guy and a gamer, but if I was going to make a career in graphics or sound, I have no hesitation in saying that Macs have value. Let's face it, they might be expensive and difficult to mod, but they (usually) just work. That might be a great thing when your livelihood is on the line. That's just my experience anyway. Don't own a Mac.

The reason the graphics sector uses them is because all Mac screens are precalibrated to the same colour settings. Meaning a red variant will looks exactly the same no matter what screen you use. That way if you have collaboration, you all see the same design. It's more to save time on configuration than because they are great.
It's one thing I hated about working for a design team.

I recently built a gaming computer superior to anything Apple makes for less than a grand...
Cool!
Well in that case build me an eight-core PC with 32GB of RAM, 8TB of drive space, two DVD-RWs, a Radeon 4870, and one Quad 4GB FC card for <$1000.
