Need help deciding on a gtx 670, which one would you gamers go with? Been reading and some say MSI, others say Gigabyte, etc. Also is the 4gb superclocked model worth the $50 for someone that might be running some Skyrim mods?
I have a gigabyte windforce 670 and play Skyrim with about 110 mods and haven't seen it slow down yet. It seems to me people who have been experiencing slow downs are using alot more high res texture mods than me. Also Skyrim tends to favor nvidia cards more since you can enable Ambient Occlusion, Transparency Supersampling, and Adaptive VSync with Nvidia drivers, which you can't on AMD.

Should do fine.
Guys, I cant decide on a good case. NZXT Phantom in black is just the best looking case ever, but with the additional fans and window mod itd come at really stupid price. Im not paying 200 Euros for a case when I can get one that gets the job done for 25.
Also a new version is coming out soon, id feel like a retard if its gets cheaper then. Tought Id get the 410, which Id have to make a window mod too tho, since the one existing is too small. Is the airflow still as good as in the big tower? I dont really need the space of a big tower tbh. The biggest I ever plan on going is dual SLI, but I think ill rather sell my 680 in a few years and get a single new gen GPU.
Advice on other aesthetic cases with good cable management/input on the Phantom (410)?

For $40 more the NZXT Switch 810 is an awesome case for cable management and it's huge.

Exactly thats the problems brah. The retarded system here in Europe is...retarded in some shops. While you can get the Full tower phantom in the US for 120$ shipped, its 150 EUROS shipped here. do the maths. Those $40 would mean €40 here. its just sad, really... im not spending that much on a case. Also the Phantom is as big as Id want to go lol.
The downside is tho, that since the first moment I saw the Phantom I had to have it. Havent seen any just half as good looking case as the full sized one. If Id get it for 110$ + shipping as on newegg, i wouldve pulled the trigger in a heartbeat. The problem is, that if I get the full size Phantom, ill have to add 6 LED fans, which will be 60 Euros again. Thats 200 Euro for a case. Not as student!

It's a tough call. GW2 maxed out didn't even break 800MB though at 1080p. Might be worth it if you plan on gaming at higher resolutions with multi-monitor setups.

I use Precision X. it was ranging from 55-100% usage in the beta. they clearly have a lot of engine optimization to do before the launch.

u lookin for mini/mid/full tower? price range?
i originally went with a mid tower case but eventually upgraded to another mid, then a full then another full. settled with corsair 800D, thing is a beast! so much room for everything i need (mainly just wanted to fit 2 radiators)

I dont really need the space of a Full Tower, but I read that its better for overall temps, but I dont mind a mid tower either. Cost should be around 100-130€.
Im still searching for the best deal on a NZXT Phantom Fulltower, or a 600T.

i just dont see the need for a full tower anymore. even high end servers and workstations can be small form factors these days. this isnt 1999 where you need a dual proc motherboard and ten hard drives to get high performance and storage capacity.

false, i have a H60 in my case. you can do full watercooling in a micro atx case as well
also the bitfenix prodigy is a mini itx case that fits a 240mm radiator
SynapticCleft

The H60's performance is on par with that of a mid-high range air cooler, typical of most closed loop systems. It can't compare with a custom loop, like the Rasa kits.
Bitfenix Prodigy is larger than most m-itx cases. A 240mm rad is not strong enough to cool a cpu and a sli/cfx setup much less with overclocked component.

I know it looks similar to the Phantom, but the side panel looks like something straight out of a videogame. Im not 12 anymore to put stuff like that into my room. Actually the NZXT Phantom is about as geeky as Id go, but damn if I could get the 600T in white for under 160€ thatd be a sure buy :(
why have cases that look so good to me be so expensive...
btw, can anywhere aware me on LIAN LI?

Edit: Oh and thank you for the suggestion, but I dont really look into mATX or ITX cases. First of all I already have a ATX mobo, and also I kind of dislike having so expensive components cramped up in such enclosed spaces :D

Yeah, thats what I tought too.
But then I found the Sharkoon Vaya, and I tought why in hell pay €150 if you can get something for 25 that gets the job done as well?
Got the 680 for a steal tho. Else I wouldve went with a 660Ti or 670 tops. Was really lucky!
Also tbh I kind of dont like the looks of them either...
I know im being really choosy and annoying, but im not feeling comfortable spending this kind of money on something so "luxurious" that I dont like from the very first view, like the 600T or the Phantom...guess ill have to wait for a discount.

you made a definitive statement that you need a full tower to watercool and that is just not true.
The prodigy is bigger than my Silverstone Sugo bit its still a hell of alot smaller than a mid tower.
99% of gamers dont need SLI/XFire. the current single card GPU's are more than enough to power pretty much anything less than three 1600p monitors.

h-series are an exception since theyre little phaggy azz edition water coolers. its difficult to fit a real custom rad/pump/res/blocks in a mid-tower.
this is a pic of my azza toledo that i completely ripped apart to make room to mound 2x240mm rads, res, pump, gpu waterblock, cpu waterblock

Alright brahs. I've been using the same comp that I bought from Best Buy during a Black Friday deal in 2006. Time for an update. This will be the 2nd computer I've ever purchased and the first I've ever built. That being said, please talk to me like I'm retarded as I am very new to the world of building PC's and have only been reading up on everything there is to know for about a week now. I'm not looking to have the best gaming PC ever built. I have been playing WoW on my current set-up since launch. Would love to finally be able to up the graphic settings. Also been playing Diablo 3 on the absolute lowest settings and my PC almost catches fire. Looking to play WoW in the future and GW2 as well, just want something that plays most games and decent settings, also slightly "future proof" so I can update in the future. I've pieced the following set-up together based on what I think I want/need and was wondering what your opinions of it were. Here it is: (this is all priced through Newegg as well, is there a better alternative?)
CPU: AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8150FRGUBOX - $189.99
Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS - $219.99
GPU: GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - $349.99
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10R - $99.99
PSU: KINGWIN Lazer Gold Series LZG-1000 1000W ATX 12V v2.2 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - $174.99
Case: Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $89.99
SSD: OCZ Vertex Plus OCZSSD2-1VTXPL120G.N 2.5" 120GB- $79.99 (might snag this now as its on a decent sale)
HD (storage): Western Digital AV-GP WD20EURS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" - $119.99
Optical Drive: LG Black 14X BD-R 2X BD-RE - $69.99
Heat Sink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm - $34.99
Altogether comes out to a little over $1400 before shipping/tax.
What do you guys think? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
*EDIT*
Also one other quick question I had. What is the difference between all of the different brands that make gpus/mobos (gigabyte, asus, msi, sapphire, xfx, etc)? Is one usually better then the other? The only experience I have is with my very old Radeon HD pro 2600 which was made by visontek and sucked. So I'd like to avoid them.
Thanks again.

Buy which CPU/MB? The same I listed or the 2500k? As for the RAM I know its overkill but I've been using 2gb of ram for the last 6 years lol. I would just like to have as much as possible and its only 100$.
Btw, my old system was a Compaq something or another with 2gb of ram, Intel Pentium dual cpu E2140 @1.6ghz, with a 250gb 5400rpm HD, and a Radeon HD pro 2600 that I added 4+ years ago lol.
*EDIT*
Also is that SSD that I linked (OCZ) is that brand garbage or something? I heard that Samsung was bought by Seagate (maybe other way around) and that their quality had fallen off because of it. Also I hate Seagate, I've had multiple drives fail on me for no apparent reason (firmware issues) and their customer service is atrocious.
Also a lot of the stuff on microcenter's site says only available in store, I don't have one near me. I'm in Indiana. I think there's a Fry's in Indianapolis which is 2 hours south of me. D:

I updated the first post I made with the cooler, I forgot it. So is Intel that much better then AMD? Even though that chip I linked was one of the best chips AMD produces a mid table Intel is still better? If so that's disappointing. I knew it was too good to be true at $190. Is the motherboard you linked comparable to the one I linked? What really separates motherboards apart from one another? Can you get away with buying a cheaper one?
Again I'm sorry for the questions that make me sound like a 1st grader. Unfortunately that's where my knowledge of these matters is at the moment. Thank you very much for the responses however.

I dont want to get into AMD vs Intel, but for me the main reason paying more for quality board is ability to overclock

installing ram in slot 2/4 is same as 1/3 in terms of performance
?Yes. Unless specified by your mobo manual.
Thanks again.Don't buy the Crosshair mobo, totally overkill for the requirements you listed. Unless of course you will be going with a 3-way sli/cfx. Different brands offer different extra features; better cooling, extra slots, and faster factory clock speeds.

Thank you very much for the responses however. The best bang for the buck cpu is an intel i5. The high end intel cpu (i7) will not benefit you in gaming more than an i5. Even though AMD offers 8 cores on it's cpu, it doesn't mean it will be better. Most games hardly utilize all of a cpu's cores.
What Fanatik suggested is the best deal for a 3570K.
Anything with a 'K' means it can be overclocked.

Optical drives are not used frequently anymore since most of the current drivers you need can be downloaded on the manufacturers website, however they still have their uses especially if you have a dvd collection. I make OS boot cds for my friends and family if they need a fresh install.

second generation A-series is already out for notebooks and coming to desktops in the fall (need to deplete Llano stock first). Second gen FX (piledriver) should also be coming out in Q4. early benchmarks show increase in IPC and power efficiency over bulldozer cores

When I adjust my volume via my keyboard, my old computer would splash a Volume Bar across my screen (like laptops do), where more bars meant the louder it was. Any idea how to do this on Windows 7 desktop? I hate having to click on the little Volume Control thing to see how loud I am.

The volume on-screen display is a function of the keyboard driver so you could try updating it.
Go into the control panel > hardware & sound > under devices & printers section click device manager > keyboard > right click - properties > navigate to update driver.
Alternatively you go could try the keyboard manufactures website. May or may not work but seeing as it's not a function directly responsible by the OS a keyboard driver/software fix is the only thing I can think of.

My rig is a couple years old, but it still rocks everything at 1920x1200:
q6600 @ 3.6 GHz [9x400], push/pull washermod TRUE, both lapped
ASUS Rampage Formula x48
8GB OCZ Platinum DDR2800 4-4-4-12
Antec 900 (modded, see pics - cable management OCD lol)
GTX 470 SLI - yes, SLI on the x48 :D
860W PC P+C PSU
300GB raptor, 2x 1TB raid 1
BenQ G2400WD 24" monitor
I'm really into modding and making stuff work. I've done a lot of work on the cooling to get the OC up so much. My cpu has a pretty high VID (1.3125 - yuck) so it's been a struggle. I'm looking forward to upgrading cpu/mobo/ram at some point but for now I don't really feel the need, even with the older hardware I have no trouble maxing out pretty much anything. I'm a big fan of the 900 with a couple changes - window, slim dvd drive, modded hd bays, a few more holes for wire management. Pics of my comp:

Anyone know how much better a 7850 is when compared to a 6850? And also would my 80+ bronze 500w PSU run a 7850? I have heard they use hardly any more power. I have around 260 dollars or 180 pounds to spend on a new GPU ( pref lower power usage so i dont have to change my PSU ) what would you brahs recommend?

Mirin the CM 690 II, definitely one of the best cases ever made, but so phucking expensive.
for the cpu, isn't the "K" version slightly better? overclockable i think? might as well throw a couple bucks more at it for that versionYeah, K is only better if you know how to or want to overclock.

I'll look into the power supply. As for the 690 fans, I've heard good things about the stocks that come with, Pretty much everyone has told me pick a cpu fan and you'll be right. Am i getting misguided advice?

Its definitely slighter better, Only another $30 on top. The reason i stuck with the 3770 standard was purely because i know nothing about overclocking.

Yeah, K is only better if you know how to or want to overclock.
I don't understand overclocking so i wasn't going to bother with K. I burn alot of blueray stuff, I'll be moving the other one from my laptop so i have two together. As for the massive overkill on ram, I figured i was going stupid i may aswell go full stupid.
So I'm going to buy a new PC, and as I know little to nothing when it comes to computers and what is good etc, I need some feedback.
WILL REP !!
Purpose: Editing big sized HD footage in latest big software with NO lag etc(aspiring film maker). Easy playback. Basically want a quick and powerful PC with a lot of space - an above the average home computer. Also watching Blurays at highest possible quality, but I guess that wont take much, lol.
So I've been naturally looking at gamer PC's(might play some games like counter strike, maybe try out the CoD games as they come out, but nothing too big) and this is the one I'm seriously considering atm:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 2GB PhysX
Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl
Corsair Powersupply HX 650W
ASUS P9X79, Socket-2011
Intel® Core i7-3930K - 3.2Ghz (Six Core)
Intel® High Performance Liquid Cooling
Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 16GB
Seagate Barracuda® 500GB
Lite-On DVD+RW burner IHAS124-19
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Prebuilt.
Total price = $2534. Is it good enough for my purpose? Any feedback appreciated and repped.

Link to prebuilt? Everything looks good, but it seems you're over paying $500. That Intel watercooling has a chitty fan, replace it with some after market fans in a push/pull configuration and it will be great. I don't see how anything past 4 cores will benefit you in media coding.

It's in Norwegian, but click the "tilpass"-button on the lower right to configure and check out the other available parts.
And yeah, I pay about $125 extra for the prebuilding, but it's okay.

Maybe something between the one I linked and this one?

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 2GB PhysX--$499
Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl--out of stock at newegg, guessing $120?
Corsair Powersupply HX 650W--$125
ASUS P9X79, Socket-2011--$260-$370
Intel® Core i7-3930K - 3.2Ghz (Six Core) --$569

Seagate Barracuda® 500GB--$70
Lite-On DVD+RW burner IHAS124--$19
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit--$100
$2534 prebuilt vs ~$1972 if you assemble yourself. (assuming US prices)

not sure if serious. you're going to need a lot more storage than that. you should be using fast RPM drives (velociraptors) or SSD's in RAID 0 configuration. Then you'll probably need another RAID 5 array for storage.
also the GTX680 is not the graphics card you want. The Geforce 670 and 680 were designed mostly for gaming and not for compute purposes (CUDA and OpenCL). I'm assuming you're running either Premier Pro which uses CUDA or Sony Vegas which uses OpenCL graphics acceleration. Plus the 680 is way overkill for the CS and COD. A GTX580 or a Quadro workstation card are much better choices for your purposes.
Supported NVIDIA graphics cards for GPU acceleration in Premier Pro CS6:
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 570 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 580 (Windows)
NVIDIA® Tesla C2075 card (Windows) when paired with a Quadro card as part of an NVIDIA Maximus™ configuration

Should I buy a second GTX 670 FTW right now? I want to SLI two of these especially for when I get a 27" monitor, but that won't be until later this year (December maybe?) Anyways I am afraid that the GTX 670 FTW cards will sell out and there won't be any at that time. Does EVGA continue to make more of their high end FTW line typically?

Any suggestions for a graphics card $150-200? I wanted the HD 6850 but it's phased out so I won't be finding it at local stores. Anything around that price range that will give comparable or better results? I'm running an i5 2500k and hoping to run games with high fps/settings.

And 6950s are going for $199. Without going through reviews I'm not sure which is better honestly.

if you arent overclocking just get an H77 motherboard and put the money somewhere else. Also you really only need a good 400watt PSU for that build. do you want a big tower or a small form factor?

Definitely worth it.
But what I do for now.. is use a 64gb for Windows 7 another 64gb for Ubuntu, and another 128gb for video games and programs like photoshop/dream weaver etc..
For data in general I just use 1tb external drives.meh thats my main hdd right now a 1tb wd black, will probably get a 40-60 for windows/browser and a 60-80 for GW2,and another game or 2

Look up reviews. Just because it's one of the latest models doesn't exactly mean it performs better than the older models.
http://www.hwcompare.com/12076/radeon-hd-6950-2gb-vs-radeon-hd-7850/
^ That got me to pick the 6950 over the 7850 due to the fact that for $200 extra dollars.. it just wasn't worth it, at the time at least.
Edit: Lulz I guess the market has realized 6950 2gb edition is better.. they seem to out price the 7850 now. It used to be the other way around. Or maybe just rarity.

Basically a clevo p170em assembled by a UK company called pcspecialist, the laptop is called a 'Vortex III'. Decided to go for this over the alienware m17x r4 as the alienware's looks were a bit too gaudy for me, the warranty was ridiculously expensive to extend to 3 years and it would have cost around £400 more to get the same spec as the Vortex III. The Vortex also has an amazing screen when upgraded to the 72% gamut matte 1080p which I prefer to the glossy finish on the alienware.

so, my system crashed twice while playing bf 3 yesterday.
what could cause that?
i was thinking maybe a power issue but my psu is 650 w, so maybe it was related to crossfire. i took out my 2nd card, turned down a few settings in game and played a whole round with no issues.

Is the Xfire a recent thing? 650W is pretty low for SLI or Xfire tbh. I'm going to say you don't have enough power or one/both of the cards are over heating.

That's probably it. The TDP on 5850s is low, 90W at idle and 151W at peak load. Two which will peak during BF3 will pull out 300W. Now, how high is the OC on your CPU and what kind of CPU is it? I'd say the GPUs are causing the issues, but 300W isn't a ton. One of my 570s pulls 250W by itself, both of them in SLI pull 500W and I've never had issues. But I'm assuming this started happening once you put in the second card?

I'd do some more testing with the cards, then. Play BF3 with them on and see what happens, if some goes wrong then play it again with one card on. Do this like twice, if you get any problems.

ssd (solid state drive) is just a harddrive with no moving parts. it boots quicker but you get far less storage capacity for the same price as a conventional hard drive. if you are on a tight budget stick with a plain hdd.

SSD is generally used for OS and programs which you regularly use.
You can get a decent 128gb SSD for $70. You would install OS, general programs and 1-2 games you play the most on SSD and the rest on HDD (movies, pictures and music)
Your load times will greatly decrease.
I just got 7850 recently myself. This is my first AMD card and its great, however the drivers+overclock program are pain in the ass.
Which brings me to my next point.
Which overcloking utility is the best to by pass the CCC overclock limit while still being able to control voltage?
I tried asus gpu tweak with 12.6 whql drivers and it would not let me pass 1050ghz while MSI afterburner with some editing in CFG files i was able to get 1150/1400 but I cant control the voltage...

I tried asus gpu tweak with 12.6 whql drivers and it would not let me pass 1050ghz while MSI afterburner with some editing in CFG files i was able to get 1150/1400 but I cant control the voltage...There seems to be an issue with drivers after 12.2, AMD removed 2 dll files that causes Afterburner to fail to set the unofficial overclocking values.
Try putting this in your cfg file:
[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingMode=1
UnofficialOverclockingEULA=I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
If that didn't work you can download the 2 missing dll files below or revert to an earlier catalyst driver before 12.2.
download the 2 dll files here and reboot

Yeah, If you want a fast start up from a dead start put your OS on an SSD. It's all a matter of preference on what you want on your SSD.

One guy suggested adding a 64gb Crucial M4 mSATA SSD to act as a system cache? Not too familiar with the details of that upgrade but he said it would speed things up alot.
What about going to 16gb ram? Is that necessary for gaming?

Did you add up the cost of all the parts including the monitor to compare?

No i just bought the Dell xps 8500 from costco ($900 all in) which I found through slickdeals.net, it made the front page. Then I upgraded the video card for $320 to the 7870 because I read that the card was top-notch.
The monitor is worth ~170.
I think if anything, the 64gb Crucial M4 mSATA SSD as a dedicated cache makes sense but I dont really know...
Someone on guildwars2guru.com said I should be able to run at high settings.

you need a z77 mobo to do smart caching. i doubt a Dell uses a z77, probably an H77 or B75.
also i hope the dell's power supply can handle a 7870.
really should have just built yourself

Build looks solid. I don't think the ram will be an issue unless you get one of those giant air coolers for your cpu.
Wow only 32 pound
so this case will be alright to fit everything i have listed in? loving the blue lights
should i just get the low profile ram anyway so if i do upgrade it will leave me with room

2. low profile ram is only really neccessary for when you have massive heatsinks and want to sit the fans all the way down, i have regular ram and a nzxt havik and everything fits fine

Thanks brah, I did a quick google search and some people are saying that I should get a 600 watt PSU, as when it runs at 80% efficiency i will be getting 480W (660ti requires 450W from manufacturer requirements). So I doubt 400 would work? Correct me if i'm wrong.

the wattage isnt as important as the amperage on the 12 volt rails. usually cheap PSU's overrate their ratings so video card manufacturers overstate the required PSU size.
a 660ti uses 150watts and even if you have a 125watt CPU, you only at 275watts. The motherboard and everything else in the system probably uses 50 watts so that puts you at 325. A quality PSU like those antecs will handle it no problem. you could bump up to the 500 watt versions if it makes you feel safer. I'm running my i5 and gtx670 on a 450watt silverstone sfx psu.

750 is overkill even for SLI. 650 would be plenty. no need to spend that kind of money on a PSU for a basic system

Would this make a sufficient gaming pc for the likes of ARMA III (high), BF3 (atleast to console graphics), Skyrim and various MMOs?
I also run software such as Photoshop and I want to get into video editing but I imagine if I can run the games above I'll run these programs fine..
Am I correct in thinking I don't have to buy a OS and I could actually torrent one? (saves $100, fbi pls)
All in is around $1000 (with monitor etc), expensive as fck over here and don't really fancy buying all parts separate and building it myself so I'm limited to the parts this site sell. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-500-gaming-pc/

That's a pretty solid lower mid-range gaming comp, however in some titles that are CPU dependant is where your processor may fall behind (not as much as you think though). As far as the editing, the dual core w/ HT will be beneficial to a point (again this also goes for gaming), but it won't be as quick as a true quad core.
Honestly, if you're trying to cut costs as well as buying monitor/keyboard/mouse, then the build you have above will do it all just fine. If you're looking to crank out a little more power, I would recommend finding a decent i5 quad core processor (i5-2400 will do it all VERY nicely), a GTX 560TI (more cores, and allows you to game that much better), and possibly a better 500w psu to support the gpu.

Your new combination is horrible. The Gtx 560 SE is a joke. Any i3 + 7870/7950 would destroy your combination in gaming. Listen to the poster above and try to pair an i5-2400/3450 with a radeon 7950 so you dont have to upgrade later on.

Are you going to be gaming more, or doing the chopping/editing more? This'll help determine if you'd actually need a quad core or not; just like the others have said above.
If you're looking to game more: i3-2120 + GTX570/HD7950 (whichever is cheaper)
If you're looking at more raw processing power: 2500K/3570K + GTX560/HD6870 (whichever is cheaper)
If you're looking for a balance: i5-2320/2400/3450 + GTX560TI/HD7850/7870 (whichever is cheaper)
For any of these builds, a solid 500-550w power supply will do.

its a good combo
I purchased 7850 last week for $260 and next day heard the news that price is going to drop to low $200. So I decided to order 660ti and return the 7850.
I paid $300 for 660ti and its only got 10-15% boost according to benchmarks. If it wasn't for free borderlands 2 which I got with 660ti, would of kept 7850.
btw, anyone know where I can sell game cdkeys? such as borderlands 2?

Yo guys
I'm trying to piece together a gaming comp for Dirt3, F1, and NFS Shift 2 (potentialy iRacing)
Looking for med-high FPS running 42" 1080p and maybe bumping to triple monitors.
Any links to budget builds you guys have seen or good articles on building a good comp? I don't need massive memory or storage space, just enough to run these games with a little extra space for random apps. Looking to spend around $450-$550. My brother has an MSI R5570 Hawk card I can use if it's worthy.

My build is pretty similar, but I've yet to upgrade my video card... SLI and Crossfire suck unless you absolutely need the horsepower for 2560x1600 or 5760x1080 resolutions. If you are just at 1920x1080 then a gtx670 is more than enough. Dollar for dollar a radeon 7870 for $250 is hard to beat for 1080p performance.

Still waiting on a dude that's selling his 680 SLI and I may grab one off of him for dirt cheap, but it doesn't seem like that's happening anytime soon since there's a shortage of 690s (what he's after). I'm thinking of saying fuark it and pick up a 660 in the meantime...
EDIT: Just read a few reviews on the 660ti SLI and they don't seem to scale that well compared to the 670/680s due to lack of bandwidth =/

what fps are you guys getting no arkham city?
1080p, all DX11 features maxed, Physix on my 680 only puts out 50-60 fps lol. Didnt expect it to hit that hard. Doesnt even matter if I use 32x CSQAA or 16xCSAA/8x MSAA. Frames stay the same, lol
At the core, when they have a Q in the name, they're 8x MSAA plus extra coverage samples. It's normal that they don't have a performance difference. Try it with 4x MSAA or 8x CSAA (4x MSAA + 8 coverage samples), performance should be better this way since only the MSAA part results in a noticeable performance hit.
You should also check out nVidia's Batman: Arkham City Graphics Breakdown & Performance Guide. Google it, I can't link it.

nice build i was looking at the R4 case, really nice especially since its small form factor and can fit 2 240mm radiators. Lugging my 800D around is getting obnoxious
current build (pic attached), just bought some yellow UV reactive tubing to replace the blue ones, had those for almost a year now, thought I should change em out. Gonna take the blue LED fans out (they suck anyways just on my rads for decoration right now) as well as the apple eater sign and make something new dunno what yet tho... black and yellow color scheme probably batman theme or something

Posting in here instead of starting a brand new thread. Basically I'm LOOKING FOR A NEW LAPTOP!
Currently: in college and have...
- refurbished 2007 MacBook pro (4gb ram , 500 fb HD, bought for around 1400 in 2008.. this is what I'm looking to upgrade)
- Apple quad core desktop with an external Apple monitor running 3 GB ram and a TB hardrive that I use for all of my gaming... Which is usually just world of warcraft atm.
Now: I commute to school on the bike and need a 13-14" laptop with 4GB of ram that can handle school/WoW and that is pretty slim. I've been looking at asus, Sony vaio 13 series, Samsung acer, etc. I WAS going to get the new MacBook pro but it doesn't come in a 15" unfortunately. My budget is around 1500$...
Can I get some suggestions guys!? Reps for some good suggestions/advice. Thanks misc!

Y a laptop? I barely ever brought my laptop to class since most of my professors don't like it, and whenever I did bring it i used it to browse the inter webs and zone out. 1500 dollar computing budget, sad to see it go towards a laptop... Im much happier with my gaming desktop for at home gaming and school work, and in class I use a tablet to write all my notes and random googles
