My name is Ethan Larmon, I am training to win the Nebraska State Championships in the sport of Wrestling. I am 16 years old, 5'9" and 145lbs. I am done playing Football and Baseball to focus on just Wrestling. After last season ended I continued working I never stopped. I practiced with another school 3 times a week and lifted in the mornings 3 times a week. Then my team started practicing 2 times a week. I went to a clinic at University of Nebraska-Omaha. I wrestled in the AAU/Ironman Nationals and was the Runner-up in the Takedown Tournament and the Folkstyle Tournament, and I won the Mat Tournament. This medal count helped me earn the Ironman Award. I also did Summer League Wrestling at Nebraska-Omaha, I have been practicing once a week, lifting twice a week, and running 3 times a week. Next up for me is a Technique Camp at the other High School I practiced with in the Spring. Then I'm heading to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Takedown Tournament at the University. Once I arrive back in Omaha, I'm going to the other high schools Intense Training Camp.
My Current Stats are
Height: 5'9"

Squat: 275lbs
Deadlift: 305lbs
Total: 740lbs
I'm bulking up to 170lbs

I realize I have a long way to go. Any feed back is appreciated and I will rep for advice on any wrestling technique, bulking advice, lifting advice, etc.

Today was the first day of the Technique Camp. The clinician was Todd Meneely was 3 time DII National Champion and a medalist at the World Team Trials. We got in a pretty good warmup. Then he showed us a few different takedowns and snapdowns you can perform with an underhook including 2 different ways of setting up the underhook. Then we did live wrestling with takedowns. I had about 10 or 11 takedowns and my partner had only 1. Then we did a game where we got matched up with another kid and we would run to this ball and try to take it back to our corner of the mat, anything went except for striking. I got the ball but I wasn't getting very far. So first takedown got the point, and I came out on top. Then from the ground we worked on breaking the guy down straight into a pinning move. We work a lot on tilts and turks. Then we went live from the standing position I scored a takedown and the got a near fall a couple of times. Then I was paired up with a kid 20lbs heavier and he scored 5 or 6 takedowns and I only scored 2. We also did a sumo game which I failed at. Then we ran a **** ton of sprints. My quads were on fire after.

Today was day 2 of the technique camp. We worked on setting up shots and takedowns from a 2 on 1. We did 3 live matches. They were takedowns only. My first one was 3 minutes against a kid about my size. I scored 6 takedowns and he scored 2. Then I wrestled a 152lber he is going to be a Senior, Metro Champ, 5th Place at Brute Nationals, and Runner-up at Ironman Nationals. He scored 7 takedowns on me and I scored 3 in 5 minutes. Then in my final my match, this one was 3 minutes, I wrestled a 160lber and scored 9 takedowns on him without letting him score one. Then we ran sprints, we dragged a partner back and forth for awhile. Then we finished up with a game similar to lions and gazelles.
Tonight I have wrestling practice at school.

We started out by playing a couple games of dodgeball. Then started working takedowns, I worked on shooting from the underhook like at camp yesterday, also snapdowns and ankle picks. Then did some mat stuff. Worked on escapes, sitouts, rolls. Then worked on some pinning combinations. We ran sprints, then went into live takedowns. I went with the bigger kids at first 2 160s and a 180. Then I went back with my original partner and we just went back and forth. Then we went live from the mat. Then we did a takedown tournament and I went 2-1. The only kid I lost to is 153lbs and from South Dakota. He was swole as hell. I got camp tomorrow then I'll probably do some type of lifting.

So today we worked on different stuff when you have a chin tricep, we did just the technique for awhile then we went live from that position. Then we went live from a series of different positions and I came out on top all but 2 times and 1 of those was a stalemate. Then we did sumo wrestling and I went 1-2. Then we did a takedown tournament and I went 1-1. Two more days of this camp and then down to Lincoln for their camp.

Today we did some review from the last few days and worked on different moves when you get a rush in, worked on some different throws. Then we went live and had it set up so whoever you pick to win if they lose do ___amount of pushups/etc. Then we played a few games of dodgeball. Then we played this other game thats kind of hard to explain. Tomorrow is the last day of the technique camp. Then it's off to Lincoln for the Takedown Tournament Camp.

Today we worked on riding legs. Doing lots of tilts and turns. Then we did a live 6 minute period where we had to make the other guy our bitch. I wrestled a kid about 20lbs heavier. I was beating down on his hand over and over, then he got his rush in and tried to shuck me and then I got the takedown. I was moving the whole time, working stuff, if I was working something on him I was clubbin him in the back of the head or crossfacing him. Then I decided to ride a leg and and power half, but I didn't have enough leverage on him so he got me on my back. So I started crossfacing him simultaneously with each hand. Then I got a figure 4 on him, found an opening in his hold and snaked my arm threw and turned him over into the turk and pinned him. feltgoodman.jpg

So today I just got home from the Nebraska Camp, I had a total of 8 wrestling sessions. We worked on pretty much every kind of takedown. We did 2 on 1s, underhooks, under overs, collar tie, and inside tricep, for our set ups. Then we did Singles, Sweep Singles, Ankle Picks, Double Legs, High Cs, and a few different throws. It was a lot and lot of repetitions. I saw a big improvement on my takedowns, and takedown defense. I wrestled with a kid who used to be up on me at the beginning of the season and during live wrestling I got like 18 takedowns on him and he only got 2. Feels good man. We did a lot of conditioning too and I'm pretty much beat, I'm extremely sore especially in my shoulders and triceps. So I'll try to get some rest before I go to the Intensive Camp tomorrow.

Today at the intensive camp. We started out in the 90+ degree weather and ran a mile to this kids house and he wasnt there. Then we ran the mile back. Then we did a cycle of tire flips for 2 minutes, then tire throws for 2 minutes, then tire slams for 2 minutes, then we ran and pulled tires for 2minutes. Then we cycled it all again. Then we got in pairs and you had to run the whole time but one person ran with the tire and we switched every 50yards and we did this for 8 minutes. Then we split up half and half with the big tires and had to run to the 30 drop the tire, then sprint back to the goalline and then back to the 30 and pick up the tire and run back. Then we did it 2 more times running to the 50. Then we got with a partner and had to pull thee tire like tug of war and I won all 3 times. Then we went inside and drilled non-stop for 20 minutes. Feels sore man.

Today we started with a 2 mile jog in the 96 degree weather. Then we went inside and got in a good warmup then went to wrestling. We worked from various scramble positions for awhile. Then we had a live grind match. My grind match went back and forth. Then we did 3 minute matches. My first match I won 10-4. My second match I won 14-7. My third match I lost 8-4. Then I won my final match 4-1. Then we did some more situational wrestling. Then we headed out onto the track. We had to run a 200M then do 15 burpees and we had to do this 4 times. The winner got extra work because a winner wants to get better. I ended up getting 3rd. But I still participated in the extra work. We ran 25 yards down and back 4 times. Then their was a summer weightlifting/fitness class outside and we went up against them in tug of war. Then we divided the wrestlers up into 2 groups and did it.

I arrived a little late and started the 2 mile jog and I ended up passing everyone. We went inside to warmup. Then we drilled takedowns for 10 minutes. Then we went live with whatever type of finish we wanted for awhile. Then we did a live duel meet. Then we just played games the rest of the time. Finally I get to rest tomorrow then going to Iowa Sunday night for the duel tournament camp.

Last night we worked on alotta technique with our clinicians: Erik Akin, Esai Dominguez, Nathan Sigman, Adam Manz, Jimmy Rollins, and George Ivanov. We did technique earlier today then we did duels. We wrestled teams from Iowa, Illinois, and South Dakota. I managed to go 4-2 and I was a bit disappointed in my losses. I got penalized in 1 to lose 7-6, I should have just run a takedown clinic on him. Then a kid who was pretty strong from Iowa beat me 0-1, I stuffed all his shots, almost got a reversal in the 3rd period as time ran out.

Yesterday, I got a rematch with the kid who beat me 1-0. I fought hard for a 3-2 decision. Then I won by decision 5-2. And finished the day with a pin in my last match. Today started out with a pin. Then I won a thriller I was up 2-1 and then I got called for locking hands so it was 2-2 then I cut him and double legged him at the last second to win 4-3. Then in the same round I received another match(only 2 matches later) and I won 7-1. My last match was my toughest of the day, I got major decisioned, feltbadman.jpg
But all in all I had a pretty good camp so I feel good and I'll feel better tomorrow now that I finally have a rest day.

Well, today I was supposed to have practice, but my coach canceled it. So I'll start doing some running and lifting at home. 3 more weeks until school starts, I'm going to lift 4 times a week and hopefully wrestle 2 times a week. I'll might go to a takedown tournament and another camp in the fall.

I started out with a run, I went for 1.5 miles, my lungs felt like they were just getting warmed up, but my knees felt like ****. I'll try to go for 2 miles tomorrow. Then I lifted I'm just doing some light lifting for the rest of the summer. I have dumbbells with adjustable weight. Then dumbbells weigh 6.5lbs a piece then I added 5lbs to each for today. So each one was 11.5lbs.
So I did 23lbs on everything. I'll add more weight next week.

I did this all in a circuit without rest in between.
I'm just kind of going light until school starts so I can recover a little bit since I wrestled almost 40 legit matches this summer, which is basically a whole season. So I start school in about 3 weeks and I'll be hitting everything full force.

Its always good to see another wrestler. I'll check it out. Yea, I've been fortunate that my school practices atleast a little bit in the off-season and I've been given quite a few opportunities from another school to train with them. Best of luck to you also.

I got my physical today and they said I was 5'11" 151lbs. My blood pressure was 124/70.
I know I have been getting lazy with this, I'll work hard to get in a few workouts this week. I'm trying to catch up on lost sleep and I'll be doing some jobs around the house, like rebuilding my deck, and painting. But on August 17th when I start school, I'll either be in the weightroom, on the track, or in the wrestling room.

So I found out today that the Head Coach of my school's wrestling program is stepping down. He coached us for 6 years and each year we finished in the Top 5. We had our 3 best seasons with him at the helm. He has pushed me to be the best and to become a state champion, I have learned a lot from him. But it sucks not having him there. So I guess I'll find out who the new coach will be sometime soon.

I had my first Fall wrestling practice today. Me and only 2 other kids showed up. So we didnt go for very long. I got taken down at first but I ended up winning king of the mat. So not much of a workout, tomorrow I make my return to the weightroom.

I lifted today and I wasn't under the best circumstances. I had to finish a novel for school, so I woke up without time to eat breakfast. I forget to pack a lunch, so I had a protein bar and half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich my friend gave me. So basically it was my own fault.

I talked to the S&C coach and I'm switching to a different program. This way I can get more explosive for wrestling. I still felt really sore from Wednesday.

Today had Wrestling Conditioning.
I weighed in at 146.1 EDIT: Getting my bf% checked tomorrow
First off we played football and I threw a couple scoring passes and ran for a couple of scores. I got racked when catching a kickoff. :(
Then we went inside and did a warmup jog. Then we ran sprints, 3 600m, and 3 200m.
1st 600M: 1st place
2nd 600M: 1st place
3rd 600M: 3rd place, I was leading at first, but I still haven't fully recovered from strep throat.
1st 200M: 5th place
2nd 200M: 6th place
3rd 200M: 4th place, was coughing the whole time.
I felt really light headed and I didn't get a lot to eat and didn't have much sleep to go off of. Next time will be better, tomorrow I weight lift, Saturday I have wrestling.

Had wrestling practice, we didnt lift :( , so basically just wrestled the whole time working on takedowns, i feel like im getting alot better and i got to work some bigger and more experienced guys which was good.

Then I had wrestling and just worked on technique the whole time. Then I went live with a 160lber and had to get the first 4 of 7 takedowns. I scored 4 in a row without being scored on.
Then on 9-25-10, Saturday, I had wrestling and drilled a lot of technique. I did king of the mat with a 160lber and 190lber. I did pretty well. I got every takedown on the 160lber and about half of the takedowns on the 190lber. I also weighed in at 146.5.

I didn't get to finish but then at Practice we played football for probably an hour or and hour and a half. Than we had to do weighted(partners) squats for 100reps, pushups 50reps, and pullups 50 reps. It was pretty tough.
Then Today at practice we warmed up and drilled for awhile. Then we went live and did king of the mat and I did pretty well. Only got taken down a few times, the only kid who got more than 1 takedown on me, I dislocated 2 fingers and his thumb on one hand and his thumb on his other hand I guess.

I have to admit I don't remember any of my numbers from last week. But that won't happen again, I'm rededicating myself to reach my ultimate goal. I will update everyday there is something to update. I'm going to start working a lot harder. I'm cutting down to 140lbs for this season. I'll update next on my lifting Tuesday.

Today was pretty intense. Worked on outside sweep singles and inside snatch singles. Alot and i mean alot alot. I got the sweep single down pretty good. I need a little bit more work on snatch singles, since I'm used to outside singles so much, mostly work on the hand positioning and I'll be in good shape. Then we went live and I did pretty well, had some good takedowns and did very well in scrambling situations.

Wrestling is my favorite sport, and I truly love to win, but I hate losing even more than I love winning. I don't just want to win I want to dominate, this is truly how most wrestlers feel about the sport. Being a State Champion is my goal, I wanna be able to wrestle in college.
I really don't know what else to say to you, it's kinda like saying to a hard working, intelligent student, "why do you want to be valedictorian?" or to a professional bodybuilder, "why do you want to win Mr. O?"

Practice today was pretty intense, I lost 2lbs in the whole practice and that's quite a bit considering its still the preseason. We drilled different takedowns for awhile, I worked on my High Crotch, Ankle Pick, and Singles. Then we drilled top and bottom, worked on some different breakdowns and turns, and worked on stand ups, sit outs, and rolls. Then we did king of the mat and I did very well, only one kid took me down, and I was able to stay consistant and I was able to beat a Powerlifting State Champ and the son of an 2xNCAA Champ. Not necessarily, I just want to do my best and become the best wrestler I can possibly be. I'm not going to try and model myself after a person. I'm just going to be myself.

Today I went to my coaches gym and we did a wrestling circuit

We did 3 sets of this circuit. Then we did 100 BW Squats.
Later I went to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and practiced. Tomorrow I'm going back to UNO to practice more.

Season started today, still sick, but went hard.
We worked on fighting for positions and angles, worked on our shots and takedowns. Drilled takedowns for awhile. Then we did HIIT and BW pushups, dips, and pullups. Then we did live wrestling. Takedowns did like 5 periods with a kid my size. Then did a few periods with a 160lber. Then did top and bottom with a 171lber. Was pretty hard, I have to admit tomorrow lifting at 6:30AM then practice after school.

Then at wrestling today, feltgoodman.jpg I had a good practice. During live wrestling first kid i wrestled i took down 10 times, but i got taken down once. I also turned him a couple of times(one 5 count). Total score of the match would have been 26-12. Major Decision. Then I wrestled the only returning state medalist on my team. He is at about the same weight as me right now, but he is still cutting. I did pretty well, I took him down 3 times, but the only time he scored was a throw and got me on my back. Other than his throw I felt pretty good about how well I did since I could see a major improvement. Then I wrestled a senior for best of 7 takedowns. I got 3, he got 4. I shouldve won, but I was gassed. I'll get in better shape tho.

Yo my next meet is December 18th, it's a tournament. Plan is to go 5-0 there and get back on track. Rankings came out yesterday, I'm no where on it, time to prove I deserve to be on there. Team is ranked 6th. I had a good practice today, making some big improvements on bottom and riding legs. Also did a bodyweight circuit to end practice. Then I wrestled with one of the club wrestlers after practice. Was a tough day, but well worth it when I get that Gold Medal.

Today was huge for me. I won all my matches, 5-0, 1st place and a great shot at Wrestler of the Week. I ended the day with 4 pins, including one in the championship match. I kept stats on the day if anyone is interested.

The first kid I wrestled I just did my thing a then finished it with a pin. 2nd match I got the pin pretty quick. Then in the 3rd match I got up 10-0 on the kid, and he ends up getting a takedown and the ref blew the whistle like 3 times for being out of bounds before he stopped being dirty and grindin my head. Then I quit messing around and stuck him. The 4th match was probably my hardest, I got up 8-3 then was ridden out the entire 2nd period, then 3rd period got a reversal to end it 10-3. Then the finals was great, ended up getting the pin. As an Individual finished 1st, team finished 4th.

This season is going pretty good so far, last week I wrestled up a weight class against a 2 loss kid. I was tired as fuuuuuuuuuuuu. He took me down, then i hit a roll into a switch and put him on his back for 2 more. 4-2 end of the 1st. Next period go down, hit a stand up, hi-crotch to a half nelson come away with 3 more near fall and ride him out the rest of the period. 10-2 going into the 3rd. He chooses bottom and tries a sitout and I snatch him back into a pin. Earned Wrestler of the Week. I was supposed to have a meet yesterday, got canceled due to snow tho. Saturday is huge, State Duals, last year was named 3rd team all-tournament. Going for an undefeated finish this time around.
I'm also taking a weightlifting/nutrition class this semester. Since I'm an upperclassman I have to make a 9 week program, with nutrition plan, and conditioning, with a warmup and cooldown. So I plan on making one for wrestling. Any help with it is very appreciated.
