Hi all!
HELP! After my show 2 weekends ago - my weight has been increasing by the day! I had 3 days where I ate poorly - not out of control tho. Then I have been clean eating ever since. Can it just be fluids? Will it eventually settle down. Im keeping my cardio up - and eating very well....I was 112 at my show - I know I was that low due to holding no H20 - I wanted to settle at 118 - my weight this am was 120.5! Will it settle down? I want to keep my weight close to contest b/c there are a few more fitness comps I want to do this summer....Id rather spend my training on my routine ect....than double cardio and sever dieting again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
2 shows ago it took me almost 2 weeks for my weight to plateau. I wouldn't worry about it if your eating clean again. Probably a good amount of water.

unless you have a show right around the conrner eat like a beast. clean food dirty food, jsut eat and lift heavy. I know from you name your not the harcore bodybuilder but post comp bloating is normal. I know people that go from 210 to 250 in a wek and a half. I would gain and easy 30 pounds after i get off my diet.

You're talking about less than 10 pounds, and it's all probably water. There's no way you could gain an appreciable amount of fat in that time unless you totally pigged out on junk food. I gain 15 pounds by the morning after a contest and 30 pounds within a week. I once even gained 22 pounds in 11 hours, all water and glycogen. I also lose 10 pounds within the last 2 days of a contest all from water.

my weight always peaks around a week and a half later... after that I have to add in nessecary calories to gain.
remember that the body can store 2.7g of water for every 1g of glycogen. The body can store around 500g of glycogen. That's 5 lbs of water right there. And if you have been depleting then your body will probably supercompensate its glycogen/water stores.
Peace

Thank you str8flexed!
I guess all I can do is eat clean and wait it out. All this advice is great - thanks. Puts things in perspective. I care more about my health more than anything - so I would never just pig out and wait for my next contest to eat clean. I like to FEEL good too! Cant wait til the bloat goes!!

exactly... as a fitness competitor your first priority is what... fitness yup you guessed it. What good is doing well in a comp if you treat your body terribly for the next week. A little pigging out the night of the contest is more than understandable... but try to get back on track asap :)

Layne what would be typical or "normal" glycogen gain after a contest..I am just coming off my diet, and i havent eaten any junk food but i admit i have been eating lots of good carbs, too many...i was wondering how much of the weight gain can be attributed to glycogen and water

8 lbs in 2 weeks? during wrestling season I would routinely cut to 112 from 120 and get back up to 120 within 3 days. don't worry bout it bro u can cut.

I am currently going through this phenomenon. I put on an extra 25 lbs. 7 days post competition (May 3). This was due to the dehydrated and depleted body revamping itself with all the H20 and nutrients that were being replaced due to the after comp binging. I just started to take off some of this extra weight I have gained (-1 lbs). All in all the weight will come off fairly quickly as my metabolism is now at a heightened rate.

YOur body is just holding on to alot of water now it needs it to survive this is why you cant keep a competition "LOOK" for very long. It would be devastating to your health to do so.
