My wife is 36, 5'4" 145lbs. She is about 25-30%bf. We have a free weight area in our sunroom that I always use. She has recently wanted me to "tell her what to do out there". Her goal is to lose bf around the waist, etc., etc. I have limited experience over the last few months with linear progression programs. That being the case I showed my wife the following beginner's program. I posted something similar a few months ago, but am hoping to get new comments concerning the program, dieting, etc. Anything that may help her get started from the female perspective. Thanks.

A
Squat 3x5
Bench 3x5
Strait Leg Deadlift 3x5
Situps 3x10
Hyperextensions 3x10

B
Squat 3x5
Incline Press 3x5
Deadlifts 3x5 (for now)
Situps 3x10
Hyperextensions 3x10

Workouts alternated ABA --- BAB

^^^This is a strength program versus a fat loss program. There are a TON of better fat loss programs. Of course she needs to be taught about nutirtion too.

I say this so many times it hurts. People just starting out need to start out with a program designed for them (beginners) written by a qualified person. New Rules of Lifting for Women is a great book but so is the men's version. The women's version has a great nutrition section.

Thanks for the response. The routine is a beginner's strength program. I see your point. It doesnt really fit her goal of fat loss. That said, I will have to check out the book that you mention to see what sort of weight programs jump start weight loss because as you surmised.....that is not my area. Thanks again!
