So, i know i need to avoid those side workouts that will widen my waist, but what about hip adductors? Will they just make my legs look thicker? I know that muscle has be be getting hit at some point in other legs moves, so do I need to spend the time doing an exercise dedicated to this? I want a strong lean figure and my goal is not to build my mucles as large as they will get. I think abductor are fine, because i love a curvy/hourglass shape.....

Does any of this make sense?

Also, any other lifts I should avoid?

I like doing hip abductions, as I think it really pulls some muscle groups together nicely. But avoid the adductor machine -- it builds up the inner thigh pretty quick (for people who are quick to gain muscle, I guess, lol). To be honest, I think most bbuilding moves are pretty subjective, because some people (different body types) respond differently to different exercises. I'm pretty sure that some people build muscle quicker in different parts of their bodies first -- of course this also depends on repetition, sets, frequency, etc. If you start to build muscle where you don't like it, then stop doing that exercise and the muscle should tone down/flatten out after a while if you stop training it.

Exercises do not make you look bigger. Eating too much makes you look bigger. A "strong lean figure" and "build your muscles as large as you can get" are generally the same thing (barring any sort of hormone therapy). It does not happen by accident, but by many years of hard training and adhering to a proper diet.

I understand that diet is absolutely integral to "strong lean figure" but i dont understand then how you are saying that muscles dont make you look bigger..... ex being the side bends that expand the width of the midsection. My shoulders look a lot broader than 3 years ago before I started lifting. So to me, that is muscle making you look "bigger." I guess my bigger point is that I am not trying to make every muscle pop like competitors do.... i just want a general symetrical appearance.

No, it's a combination of a "smidgen" of muscle, a muscle pump and fluid over a higher percentage of bodyfat. <<This is what makes you look bulky/bigger.

Like Sonti said, eating too much and holding more body fat is constantly being mistaken for building too much muscle/getting bigger.

Trust me if women brought their body fat levels low, they'd be amazed at how much muscle they don't have.

Once again Kim is right!

In my avi I'm a size 0 or 2.

Two weeks after eating LOTS and lifting lots: I'm up to a size 5ish. LOL.. Can't even fit in some of my pants I was wearing for my contest.

Muscle doesn't make you look bulky. Its the fat over it! :) I was a string-bean in clothes two weeks ago!

Still, even at a size 5 no one would consider you wide - especially at your height. To compete you have to have muscle. If you can have that and some fat and still fit into a size 5...

^This. Plus, even if you were able to add significant mass to your adductors and abductors they won't make your thighs look significantly bigger. Both groups are made up of multiple relatively small muscles with staggered insertion points. They simply don't have the physical structure to become peaked like a bicep or rounded like delts.

If your inner things are getting bigger you are eating too much.
