Hi, I am looking to purchase my first piece of equipment and found this on CL. Can anyone tell me if it's worth the price. The owner says it's around 10 years old and has seen limited use.

That thing is ancient, and overpriced. It is at least ten years old.
You really want to read the stickies for a better shopping list.

I wouldn't say it is a horrible price. Just not good for a lower-end smith machine that is that old. It looks a lot like Body Solid's Powerline smith. Powerline is Body Solid's lower-end line. This smith machine travels on nylon bushings rather than bearings. So chances are good that the movement is not very smooth (especially since it's 10 years old). Personally, I'd pass on it. Rather than a smith machine, you should look for a power rack and bench. Search on here for the advantages of a power rack over a smiith. Also, read the power rack sticky at the top of this forum.
EDIT: Tim types faster than me. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking you should definitely pass

Thanks for the advice. I'll read the power rack sticky.
I really appreciate your time and will hold off on this one.

Thanks guys,
After "taking" your advice and "reading" the power rack sticky, I jumped on CL and found a brand new still in the box Powetec rack for $400. I immediately bought it. Can't wait to put it together.
