So this was total news to me. In my advanced nutrition class we watched a lecture on "the science of fat" In it, the speaker spoke of receptors PARP gamma and delta. Gamma is high in adipose tissues and essentially regulates fat storage and delta is in muscle tissue and regulates fat burning. they receive signals from fat cells. (this is what I got from the video) It has led to incredibly interesting research in animals and revving up PARP delta has in fact made much smaller mice in comparison to obese mice who were fed the same. it also increased their ability to run for distances untrained. Has anybody else heard of these and have any relevant data on it? I was blown away by it and thought it was awesome stuff.

It's PPAR - peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor :)

This is one of the studies with the marathon mice - AMPK and PPARδ agonists are exercise mimetics (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2706130/). You can find more research in pubmed.
