I am now at weight 156.5 pounds. My goal is 130 pounds. That is around 25 pounds.
Is it realistic to have them lost lets say I want to be at goal on July 1st.
What do you say?

To me, that would be hard. That's what... 10 weeks away? 2.5 lbs lost a week seems like a lot.

Yup.
Especially if you want to keep your muscle. Aim for a lb a week (of fat!) and lift heavy - if you are new to lifting you will likely like the changes more than just trying to drop weight on a low cal diet.

I'm assuming as this is a bodybuilding site that you wish to maintain muscle as well as lose weight so it will be very difficult. If you just wanted to lose weight then you could do it with lots of cardio and little eating. I wouldn't recommend going down that road though.

I guess anything is realistic, but I suppose it also depends on your goal.
I don't know, when I wanted to ditch a ton of weight, I focused on getting rid of it by working out hard, often, and eating really good. I didn't worry much about building a **** load of muscle, just wanted the fat off and not lose too much in the process. For more than a few weeks there I was losing 2.5-3.5lbs a week [not back-to-back].
Now that I'm closer to my goal size, I'm focusing more on building muscle.
Again, depends on your goals, I guess. Dropping the weight can be done.
Also, I'm no expert. But plenty of the ladies and gents around here know more than a thing or two about this kind of stuff.

Well you could get to that weight, but you would lose muscle too most likely and your body shape wouldn't improve a lot.. you might be smaller but not look great in a bathing suit and I am assuming that's your goal? It's so important to keep muscle when you want to look good without clothing, why not aim for like 140lbs and lose it slowly while working hard on the muscles? eat in a small deficit and keep protein high

To be honest, most likely it won't happen. Anytime you get on a new program it takes a good 5-6 weeks to see any kind of real changes. You'll lose some quick water weight within the first week, but after that you'll be lucky if you can lose a steady 1-1.5 lbs a week...it's a slow process and you're going to need more time.

thanks girls.
140 pounds SOUNDS amazing. I think we have this ego of reaching everything once and for all... Deep inside I know it isnt healthy, but the fact that I still cannot wear my pre-pregnancy pants after having my first son almost 16 months ago DRIVES ME NUTS. at Pre-pregnancy I was 152 pounds, and it isnt my goal now to be that!! 140 sounds AMAZING.. Oh well, here I come, just have to stick to it.

Excellent attitude! Remember also that with a steadier and less drastic rate of weight loss you're probably more likely to keep the weight off since you'll also be making less drastic lifestyle changes. Good luck!
