I was speaking with a guy I know that does a show or 2 per year...
His thought, is that you should do as little cardio as possible and rely entirely on diet.
Cardio is a lat resort to be used only when you have failed to give yourself enough time to cut..

Anyone agree?

100% agree. A lot depends on starting point, how long the diet is (although depends on metabolism which is also starting point)...My first show I did 0 cardio until 4 weeks out and then only walked on a treadmill once/week for 15-30 mins. And yes, I had stried glutes.

I think it depends on the individual and if you are natural or not. I spent some time talking to Seth Feroce and he was doing 70-90+ minutes of a stair stepper a day starting at 10 weeks out...and that is not that uncommon.

I also like doing cardio so I can eat more. I have a sh*t metabolism so I'd be eating like 1500 calories a day if I didn't do cardio lol.

I think most people can get VERY lean without cardio where others choose to use cardio. I'm doing two hours of a stair stepper daily right now and honestly I don't see any significant muscle loss whatsoever.

I like doing cardio. headphones, good music, outside enjoying the weather, being active...etc

but i have a desk job, so if it's a non'lifting day, it's my only activity before work i guess

I'd like to quote my trainer here, "don't just look in shape, be in shape." Mike Davies
