Hey Guys,

I had a Wellness Exam at work, and I'm a little concerned with the results.

Here are my numbers (Last Year / This Year):

Total Cholesterol: 217 / 163
HDL Cholesterol: 70 / 65
LDL Cholesterol: 131 / 96
Glucose Level: 91 / 92
Triglycerides: 79 / 8

The 8 for Triglycerides obviously jumped out at me, so I did some Google searches on triglycerides being too low. I saw some forums where people were talking about potential thyroid or liver issues.

I generally do a Keto-style diet during the week, but not really too strict. I keep the "bread" type carbs out, but I have some fruit and post workout carbs. On the weekends I pretty much eat whatever. I don't drink a lot, couple beers a week is typical.

I experimented with Intermittent Fasting for about a week or so around the time of this test (about a month ago) - would that be to blame?

Any knowledge you guys could share on the low triglyceride number would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Tim

As far as I know, triglycerides are created when excess carbohydrates are turned into a type of fat for storage. During a keto diet, you aren't eating enough carbs for your body to store, therefore you have barely any triglycerides. You are also burning off fat as your primary energy so I think a keto diet would also burn away triglycerides.

I'm pretty sure a very low level isn't anything to worry about, since they seem to not really important.
