Hey guys,

Just signed up and looking for some information.

I need to drop weight for competeing in MMA and BJJ. Want to compete at 155 by cutting weight and walk around at about 170 ideally. Currently walking around at 185 - 190. Crappy littel scale says my BF% is around 22%.

Want to burn the excess fat and put on some more muscle but not to much as I will need to cut down to 155.

Any suggestions on supplements and diets would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Seriously, at this point you are better off fighting welterweight to middleweight. Lightweight may not be the way to go. Unless there is some reason why would want to fight lightweight, such as height or something, I would say work on getting your bf% down and gain some muscle and stay around 185-190 (which wouldn't require a huge cut for middleweight and only 15 pounds for welterweight. A long term goal would be to fight lightweight, but for now I would concentrate fighting in the middle and welterweight divisions.

As far as supps go, I would get some protein and a good multi. Diet, make it high pro, low carb, low fat. Remember this (I used to fight MMA, before I suffered a sweet injury), your training is rigourous. You are going to want to train with all the energy you can get. Food is your energy. Cutting and training to fight lightweight is not smart. I used to fight heavyweight with the dreams of fighting middle or lhw. I found that I was better of maintaining what I had as opposed to trying to lose.

If you have any other questions, PM me.

Tommy

Well I ideally want to walk around at 170. And only cut to 155 when I get a fight lined up. No way do I want to stay at 155. I figured considering my body fat and overall body type, I could realistically cut to 155.

Any specific supplements or food types you would recommend? I have never dieted before or taken any supplements so and specifics would be great.

PS Forgot to add that I train at least 4 days a week, at least 3 hours a day.

Protein powder, sweet potatoes, brown rice are the staples I would recommend. These keep your energy stores in check and are slower digesting. A lot of green veggies, broccoli, asparagus, spinach. These are for fiber to keep you feeling full. Steel Cut Oats are another good staple for the morning.

I guess what I was trying to tell you right now in regards to your weight was that I would recommend that you lose body fat and gain muscle and try to stay that same weight you are now. You could then realistically cut to 170 and fight there. Remember, muscle weighs more that fat and muscle is what keeps you going in the cage. The stronger you are the better you are. Before I was injured I fought at 265 and I would cut from 280. I wanted to in the worst way lose weight and fight at either middle or lhw. It never happened because as I was getting more and more in shape I found that I was gaining muscle and staying around the same weight.

Remember, at 6ft tall, you will be one of the larger welters out there. Just my two cents.

I would actually suggest you fight at 155 because you're going to get seriously out muscled fighting at 170-180 especially at 22% BF. It shouldn't be that hard to make it weight if you have around a months time. Just get your diet in check, and add in an extra cardio session in the mornings. I suggest swimming as it is a different form of cardio than your training. Do all the bootcamps/crashfit your gym offers and you should be good to go. Make sure you hit up the sauna or steam room at least once a day not only to cut extra water weight but to help in recovery. If worse comes to worse you can always cut 5-10 lbs day of your fight. It's going to suck but it'll be worth it when you get your hand raised.

P.S. Just read your other post. 15 lbs is a lot to cut especially if its your first time, and not making weight will have you competing at the very bottom of the next weight class up. For supplements, I strongly suggest a multi vitamin, protein powder and a intra workout BCAA/EAA. Take a scoop of protein power right when you get up, before you go to bed, and after each workout session. For BCAA/EAA I suggest you get Xtend or Purple Wrath, I would split the recommended daily doses and drink during each of your workouts. In your case, if your doing cardio and training, I would take consider taking even more than the recommended dosing.

Hope this helps!

I'm not even considering taking a fight until my bf% gets way lower and at that point I feel pretty confident ill be able to cut to 155. Right now I'm just looking into supplements and diets to help me attain my desired weight asap. Been steadily dropping weight for the past 6 months but ive hit a roadblock and haven't seen much change recently. Hence my need additional measures as I wasn't dieting or taking anything before.

Give this a try. It will help you more than someone on here probably could. It will let you see the actual breakdown of what your macros should be. It also gives you different options for what type of diet you want to do.

That site puts me at:

1546 Calories/day

Carbs: 231g
Protein: 96g
Fat: 25g

That sound about right for a good macro diet?
