Heah I was just wondering how many of you find that running burns off fat faster than the elliptical machine for cardio workouts? I am just wondering which one would be better, I like both machines, but find that the treadmill bores me to death.

I hate the elliptical machine because I cannot do HIIT cardio on it. No mater how hard I go it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get my heart rate over 160. It's also incredibly hard for me to get my heart rate over 170 on the bike. With both of these machines, once I get to the higher resistance levels, I get way too much lactic acid build-up in my legs to continue going fast enough to keep my heart rate up. And at resistance levels where I can go fast, it's not intense enough to get my heart rate up. At my gym however, at least the bike seems to be honest about how many calories I'm burning. The elliptical machines tell me I'm burning some ridiculous amount of calories and I know it's bull****. I do HIIT cardio on the treadmill, killing myslef for 20 minutes by doing anywhere between 9-12 sprints at a 15-degree incline and 9-10 MPH. I get my heart rate up to 180 and am winded from the moment I do my first high intensity interval. My best ever is burning 330 calories in 22 minutes, and I weigh 200 pounds. The elliptical trainer will say I burn close to 500 calories in the same time period working at half that intensity. The other day I heard some woman talking about burning close to 800 calories in an hour. I thought, that's pretty impressive, then I turn around and see it's some 100 pound woman on the elliptical trainer. Whoever calibrates those things for calories burned needs to quit bull****ting.

I usually burn more calories on the elliptical trainer - the advantage being that it uses the upper body as well as the lower body. But it also depends on intensity.
I use both, depending on what I am doing. I do HIIT on the treadmill as it is easier to get the changes in intensity, but do my lower intensity endurance cardio on the elliptical trainer as it burns more calories than low intensity on the treadmill and it is less boring.
