Also was curious out of all you oat lovers, what brand and type (steel cut, rolled, instant) you use/prefer?
I use Stop and Shop Brand Old Fashioned Oats
Cheap, taste great! and I can get in a big 2 pound container for like $2.99

8 October
My chest was still feeling a little sore so I decided to do an arm day with just tris and bis. Still did some CGBP to work the chest a little. Maintained better form with the heavier curling weight.

Steel cut oats taste really good. Much heartier and flavorful. Definitely worth the extra time.
Great log here, very inspiring.

personally i prefer rolled oats :) I like the chewy/smooth texture . Steel cut indeed have a greater taste and the consistency is more dense, and harder

We don't seem to be able to get steel-cut oats over here. These 'uns are my favourite...

DALLAS SUCKS! Amassed 511 total yards offense but committed 12 penalties for 133 yards and committed 3 turnovers.
Well, at least the Yankees are doing their part to keep me entertained.
btw, thanks to everyone for the oat question feedback.

October 9-10
Worked the chest and shoulders on Saturday. Tried to stick to a lot of heavy compounds. Chest I ditched the bench for 3 different levels of incline. For shoulders I hit up some shrugs and upright rows. Low volume day but still felt fairly beat.
Sunday was a rest day. Suffered through a horrible Cowboy disaster and studying for an actuarial math exam. Today will be bis/tris and more books. Ugh.
Eats:
Chicken and spinach with salsa
http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab223/determined4000/meals/Picture754.jpg?t=1286816858
Bought some frozen berries and made this. Left side of the bowl I blended it and froze with some MGN Chocolate Caramel, and the other side was blended with 3 tbsp of Peanut butter. Came out all right. Alternative to my cottage cheese bowls for a change.
http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab223/determined4000/CCh/Picture748.jpg?t=1286816858
Eggs (capturing the cheeziness)
http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab223/determined4000/meats/omeletmontereyjack.jpg?t=1286816914
I tried out the animals suggestion of adding some ground coffee to my oats. Didn't notice the grainy texture. Used hazelnut coffee, tossed in some a serving of oats, serving of carbquik, scoop of MGN, an egg and some strawberry drink mix (yeah lots of different flavors going on) and baked in the microwave. Tasted delicious even if it looks funny (And no I don't care how it looks). I needed some calories to finish off the day and just kept tossing stuff in.

I think sometimes going to the incline might help me break through a plateau. Been stuck at the same weight so I decided to change things up and then after a few workouts will try to hit it up again.

Hey D when you make your CC you use ON casein right?
I always use casein when possible because it is much better for the thickness.
However, I switched from ON to MGN because the price and Macros were better and taste is just as good.

I was going to ask your 2cents on Casein since I know you use it alot.
I'm just about to finish off my ON Choc Casein and I really don't think I can do a 2nd round of 4lbs.
As for MGN, didn't they have a ton of bad batches going out? Have you order since from them and as well any solid flavors to try out?

Had never tried thier PB or chocolate peanut butter and it is AWESOME! Most brands dont have legit peanut butter flavor but this stuff was legit (remember the cookies?)

ic ic. i just started using casein and i've found that it mixes into CC nothing like whey. It seems to just soak up everything instead of turning into the consistency that yours looks like or how using whey is. Do you add like milk or any liquid to your CC + Casein? I'm just adding casein straight to CC and its very clumpy. any ideas? thanks bro
edit: MGN changed the name of their whey/casein to "huge impact" now?

It depends on what else you are adding
If you are just doing something like 1c CC with a scoop f casien, you probably need to add 1/2c milk. If you are adding other things in (fruit, peanut butter, syrups, etc) then just add so you get the consistency you want.

October 11-12:
Worked out the bis and tris on the 11th and, to be honest, wasn't feeling the greatest. Felt a little weak. Decided to eat more because I had been low on calories the last couple of days. Came back on the 12th and hit up the legs. PR'd in squats and leg press.
Food = strength. Need to keep reminding myself of that.
Eats:
Lean ground was on sale so I made some meatballs

REVIEW TIME:
As promised, now that I finished off the MGN Peanut Butter I am going to give a review.
Taste: 9.5/10- It is near impossible to find any pure peanut butter flavored whey. They are pretty much all chocolate peanut butters. I have tried Myofusion, musclemilk and bodyfortress. Myofusion probably comes in 2nd at around an 8 and the others lag far behind.
Usability: 9/10- I used it in oats, cereal, baking, pancakes and ice cream. It mixes great for oats making batters, no clumpage (if that’s a word) whatsoever. Nice smooth batter. The cookies were beyond good. It also seems to mix a little thicker than other wheys so you can use it for cottage cheese ice cream. Still not the thickness of casein, but as far as wheys, it is the best option.
Macros: 9.5/10- Can’t beat 110 calories and 25grams protein. Myofusion is 157 and 23, Musclemilk 150/16, bodyfortress 135 and 26, ON 120 and 24.
Value: 10/10-5lbs at 34.00 comes to 55.88 grams of protein per $. Myofusion is about 37, Isoflex is about 30, Musclemilk20.5, ON 39.8, bodyfortress 39.8. So for every dollar spent on MGN you would need to spend 1.51 on myo, 1.40 on ON or bodyfortress, 2.72 on musclemilk, and 1.86 on Isoflex.
Overall: 9.5/10

Most stews generally have cheap, tough beef, plain potatoes and other veggies I am not crazy about (carrots, cooked celery, corn). More of a chili/ chicken soup guy for those cold winter days.

Hit up the shoulders and chest on Wednesday and Legs on Thursday. For chest I continued to work the inclines, did sme weighted dips as well. Shoulers I tried to stay heavy with some shrugs military presses, overhead, etc. Legs I got in some squats and leg presses before going over to deadlift. Was planning on going for a PR but unfortunately I cut my hand on Wednesday and couldn't grip properly. Ended up having to do less weight at more reps. Will go for the PR next time around.

Decided to go back to an upper/lower split for the next few months probably. Reason being I only have to be on campus tuesday and thursday and my college gym has better equiptment for leg workouts. So T/Thursday will be all leg stuff (inc. deads) and other days will be my upper workouts.
Monday was an upper day. Curls, shoulder press, inclines, rows, b-rows, and t-rows.
Tuesday was filled with squatting, dead lifts, leg press, and finished off with some calf raises. Worked on form with all my lifts and tried to make sure I am getting proper extension on my lifts so that all the weights I record and track aren't phony.
Yanks lost again last night. On our last leg this afternoon (4pm for those who care)
2 exams down yesterday and two more tomorrow, so lots more studying this afternoon.

Wednesday I had an interesting workout. Did a cross training workout (run, bike) and then instead of lifting, a band workout. Did it with a guy from school who does Iron Mans. Was nice for a change I guess. He is pretty intense.
Thursday was lower + dead lifts. My legs were still kinda feeling from Wednesday's bike, so I took it easy.
Hell week of exams are over. I got to get around to finishing my grad app essay that I have been putting off writing (doing this now to procrastinate :)).
Picked this up at the store. Rather than sodium, it uses potassium. Potassium somewhat negates the effect of high sodium. So this not only lowers your sodium intake by using less, but also increases potassium. I will let yall know how it tastes after trying it today.

My lunch yesterday was one can of Solid White Albacore to which I added 30 grams of natty PB, a squirt of Sriracha Sauce and a squirt of Franks hot sauce. I put this in a flat out with romaine lettuce and it was delicious. Highly recommended to anyone with any interest in peanut butter.

October 22-24
Friday I ended up taking a rest day because I have a cold and just felt like some rest was un order. Just did some work for shool, tasks around the apartment, got my haircut and took a nap.
Saturday was a leg day. Hit up the squats, leg press, deads and did some calf raises and leg extensions. I cut out leg curls because it sees I always end up pulling something when I try to go heavy with those and I assume they will still get hit to a lesser extent with my other exercises.
Sunday was chest, bi, tri. I a now breaking my upper into that and shoulders/back/delts. Felt like some of my chest and tri exercises hit both muscle groups anyways so I could do less of each of those and work in curls on the day as well.
Will see how it goes.

Oats, whey, Cottage cheese as staples. Basically cook the oats most of the way through, then dump in the cottage cheese and finish reheating to melt it in. Then stir in the whey.
Sometimes I toss in PB or more cocoa powder.
Occasionally when I need more calories I end up baking it in the microwave by adding egg and carbquik/flour and it will turn into a more solid structure. Delicious any way you have it.

How much of the cottage cheese can you taste in it and does it thicken the oats quite a bit? I'm not a fan of the taste/texture of cottage cheese, but if it is masked by the oats and protein it might be worth a try.

You certainly dont taste./feel the texture because it melts in.
You can use as much or as little as you want.
Maybe 2 servings oats, 1 serving CC, 1 scoop protein + add ins (PB/cocoa powder if you want it)

"One Night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you you'd walk with me all the way, but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." "

Monday was shoulders, traps, and delts. Workout consisted of overheads, military press, upright rows and did some lat raises to finish off. Hit highest weight in overhead and rows in quite some time.
Tuesday was leg day. Started with supersets of squats into calf raises and finished off with dead lifts. Killed those so I will save the sissy isolation leg exercises for another day.

MGN Vanilla Bean Casein vs Vanilla ON Casein vs Dymatize 12-Hour
Macros- MGN: 96/22/.5/1-->92% protein
ON: 120/24/.5/4-->80% protein
Dymatize:125/21/1.5/6-->67% protein
Flavor: I would rank the Dymatize last out of the three. It was too sweet for me and had a tad bit of after taste. The Fudge brownie flavor was better. I would rank ONs well but I really dug the MGN for something different. It has more flavor than the regular vanilla (must be the bean part lol).
Ingredients- Pretty clear here that the MGN is the winner with 100% pure Micellar Casein. ON Casein use a blend of Micellar and calcium caseinate. For Dymatize, casein is well down the list in ingredients.
Usage- The MGN and ON Caseins both work much better for ice cream due to thickness. All three made thick batters for pancakes, brownies, etc. I found the ON casein to clump somewhat in oats, whereas the MGN did not (so mixibility was better for those shake people). I must admit I did have what could be constituted as a “shake” OMG! I recently bought some generic brand instant coffee instead of my Taster’s Choice. Needless to say it tasted like crap. However, given the name “Vanilla BEAN” the MGN sounded like a coffee flavor. So I tossed in two TBSP to my 16oz coffee and WOW.
Overall Very Scientific Ratings:
MGN-9.4756/10
ON- 8.7591/10
Dymatize: 7.6331/10

Workout: Chest, bi, tri
Increased weight and reps on my bench. Stayed stagnant with everything else. I thin I will plan on trying to do that-->increase one exercise per workout. Thoughts?
Increased calories and felt energy was up. Only downside has been that I have had trouble falling asleep the last two days since the increase. I literally slept for four hours. Once I fall asleep I seem to sleep soundly but I toss and turn trying to. Then I had to get up for class, so I couldnt sleep in. Hopefully as my body adjust I will sleep better.

Surprised to see the Giants take a 2-0 lead. Rooting for them since Texas eliminated the Yanks. Of course the C's beat the Heat on opening night...and then lost to the inferior Cavs the next night. I have trouble rooting for them anyways because I don't like a lot of the personalities on the roster.
This weekend will be doing lots of homework, project, and watching football. Already got my game schedule lined up for Saturday (10am through 1am for college) and Sunday (11am- SNF for NFL). Hope everyone else has a good weekend.

Are you not being able to sleep because your mind is racing due to the increased energy? This always has happened to me about once a week and it is very frustrating (not to the extent of only getting 4 hours though)
And strong football line up lol. I used to do the same thing (except not for NCAA just NFL), but now I find myself only watching the Eagles games. Ocassionally though I go to a sports bar and soak in the football coming at me from 50 tvs though...no better way to watch

Sounds like me every night. About 5 hours is typically all I get. I honestly think results and recovery take a huge hit because of that though.
As for increasing weight/reps. I would just make sure you are going as hard as you possibly can. If you up weight on a certain exercise, but don't get to your desired rep number, then who cares. You pushed yourself harder with that little extra weight and that will make you stronger. Another thing you could try is adding weight to your last set and really pushing till failure (if you have a spotter).

This is generally a good idea, but since you are far from your genetic potential, I would focus on increasing one core lift and at least one accessory lift every workout. I know I'm not too knowledgable in nutrition, but I have been trained by numerous top strength coaches at the collegiate level so my knowledge of training is pretty sound. Now typically, your shoulders will plateau first, followed by chest and arms, then back, then legs. So I would still focus on adding weight to the bar for all of your major back and leg lifts. Chest/arm/shoulder stagnancy is certainly acceptable and common in most trained individuals.

Strongly disagree. Progressive overload should be organized, not just increasing weights and lowering reps. Either up the reps or up the weight and keep reps constant. And this is not to be achieved in a linear fasion, so you should not "go as hard as you possibly can" every workout.

Well obviously you wouldn't keep adding weight if the reps keep getting lower and lower. The point is if you are aiming for 8 reps and you add weight on your last set and only get 6 reps, it isn't that big of a deal. If you do that same weight on your last set the next workout, you can try to push out the full 8 reps.
When on a bulk, I think strength should be going up every week (although there will be some weeks where you WILL be stagnant). Whether it be having a goal rep range and adding reps, or just simply adding weight.
I mean I won't lie, I don't know THAT MUCH about lifting, but this is just what I have always been told.

Yeah, this is a pretty good summary, maybe I misunderstood your post. Personally, I don't try to up the weight and lower the reps until I can get 10 clean reps (when training for hypertrophy). Weekly increases during a bulk will work for some time, but obviously weekly improvements will disappear with time. Its about knowing when to back off, then go for it again.

Lower workout
Stuck with fewer sets with only squat-->calf raise supersets and then deadlifts. Trying hard to improve the squats and dead lifts. I enjoy those lifts more than any other leg exercise and view them as more important. Upped the weight on my deadlift but only got out 5 reps. Will be trying to increase reps on that as was discussed (thanks scoot and coop).
Although the above and below listed WO and Eats are thursday, today is in fact Sunday. Sitting down to watch football all day. Will have my math book along side me (guys gota do what a guys gota do). Fortunately Dallas isn't on TV so I dont have to suffer too bad. Pats on at 4. Will be rooting hard for Favre to suck up the place. I am assuming he will start to keep the streak alive and then if he isn't playing well he will pull himself and put on a cast or something.

Then 2 weeks of the same thing actually lost a little.

It is essentially the same exact thing as the dip (if you have had it). I dont think they changed it at all from the dip to be honest (just a different container).

I have projects going on in every single one of my classes, 2 exams to study for, finishing up paper work for apps, meeting with advisors, contacting grad schools, contacting employers for temp work between graduation and grad school. Oh, sorry. I dont post everything I eat. I generally figure people would get tired of seeing posts of the same veggies I eat everyday. I eat fruit. Just not every single day. There are certain things (chicken, veggies, PB, cottage cheese, whey) that I eat everyday in about the same specified amount. Then I pick and chose the other things to hit my totals, get variety, eat what I feel like, etc, depending on the day. Don't worry, you will see some soon ;)

Wednesday I benched, did overheads, shrugs, weighted chins and dips. While my upright row went up, my bench went DOWN. Really frustrated. Decided to take yesterday off and then up calories starting today. Need better progress.
Weather: Really depressing. Poured yesterday, dark and gloomy today and it gets pitch black by 5:30-6:00pm.
Will be trying to get some work done today after my workout, then give myself some time to relax tonight. Hopefully there will be some good games on, I haven't really checked. Looking for some different meal ideas if anyone has any in particular at the moment.

1. Use any conventional bread recipe
2. Bake bread
or buy italian bread
3. Slice bread in half
4. Spread layer of butter (I use promise) and dash on (I use loads) garlic powder, garlic salt and mash in some garlic cloves. I also like to add onion powder.
Then place on bake sheet and toast until golden brown.

I've seen you post Brocolli Raab a couple of times, Hows it compare to regular brocolli?
More flavor, higher protein, more...options with it
I say the last one because it has a stem like broccoli but then leaves as part of the bunch. So you can use the leaves like greens (cooked or in salad) and then steam the stems like broccoli.
I generally don't buy it because it usually sells for 1.99/lb vs broccoli 0.99/lb, but one store near my parents house sells it at the same price as broccoli so I load up on it when I visit my parents.
here is a picture before leaf/stem separation

Unlucky, but don't get too hung up on it; you can't progress in everything every time. As a plus though, you did make some improvements, so not a total loss.
Weather: Really depressing. Poured yesterday, dark and gloomy today and it gets pitch black by 5:30-6:00pm.
I hear that, it's exactly the same here. A bit of a kick in the nuts because we actually did get some 'summer' weather over here this year, even after autumn kicked in. Coming up to winter though, things just nasty...

Ok! I just returned from my backpacking trip, 6 months down the track and...
Well I want to be supportive D. I really do. I understand you have problems regarding food and weight. But it's been over 9 months since you commenced your 'bulk' now. Last I checked was late April when you were eating around 2350 cals daily... Now really. You should have absolutelely NAILED how many cals you need to eat to consistently gain weight by now. You're a sharp lad. I've caught up on most of this thread and read your recent posts regarding slight weight increases but...
Please, please tell me you've gained at least 6-12 pounds since April.
If you have, then great!
... But if you haven't (and your recent pictures sort of indicate this), well surely you've realized how much of your own time and money you're wasting?? I want to help you D. But why spend hundreds of hours in the gym, thousands of dollars on a membership and supplements, 9 months updating an exclusive 'bulking thread', and endless days counting calories if you're not actually going to benefit from it all by gaining significant weight?? Surely you're sick of sacrificing so much to gain so little??
So please, please, please tell me I'm wrong. Tell me you've packed on slabs of muscle and perhaps even a little fat (God forbid!).

Wasn't going to post but do to the flipping outage I will clear up
I addressed this last week when Scooter asked on 10-31
I fained a few lbs over the 1st month back into things (right on track), was happy, kept cals the same, then dropped 2lbs then next two weeks. FIgured maintenance must be increasing so I added calories this week and am pleased to report I gained .5lbs. Again right where I want to be. However, due to the plateau I am seeing in the gym, I am continuing the increases this week.
Lastly, I have never ever claimed to be fully recovered. I admit it is a battle of pushing out the negative thoughts and willing myself to do what I know intellectually is correct. I appreciate everyone's support, more than you can imagine. Even DanthemanB inspires me to prove him wrong ;).
Inspirational quote of the day

Good to hear that you have gained some weight recently. But it seems like you're just taking a seesaw ride. Except for a whole year. You gain, you lose, you gain, you lose. Oh man. Keep this up and you'll be exactly the same in 10 years.
I mean how do you go from eating enough calories to consistently gain weight, to eating the same amount but dropping 2 pounds in only 2 weeks? You must have been literally starving. On a bulk! I doubt that your maintenance calories could have increased by so much (in such a short time) that your bulking calories became extreme CUTTING calories. Sure I've had times when my bulking calories didn't bulk me anymore. But I've certainly never LOST weight on a bulk (I don't think). Let alone 2 pounds in 2 weeks...
I want to help D. But please be honest. Where does that weight loss come from? Illness, over-exercising to compensate, not taking into account extra daily activities (e.g., walking to college)?
On days that you're unsure if you've hit enough calories to bulk, why don't you just say f#!k it, and eat a tablespoon of PB? Better than to lose weight right?... Right?
I don't want to bother you though. I'm no expert. I'll just sit back, watch and cheer you on!

I feel famous :o. lol
And you seem to be right on track if you've been consistent with your intake. Who's to tell you how your body responds to food other than you? You do seem to keep a lot of things shrouded in mystery, but I think that's just the way you are and not because you are trying to hide anything (I could be wrong but I hope not). Some people are just taking that the wrong way.....I mean it wouldn't make sense for you to be making a log and then lie about what you're doing.
Keep it strong D.

I wasn't trying to start some Attack D flame, was just curious! I eat a lot of the same foods as you and I know (from now becoming a counting crack head) how much cals are in some of your eats. That is with out what ever stuff you cook it in. Like a spaghetti squash you can get like 6 cups out of and = 2.4g Fat, 60g Carb and 6g Pro. Just doing some math in my head... unless you are adding a lot of Calorie heavy ingredients I do question your Cal intake.
Its just I see a lot of times you are saying you had a bad workout or wasnt feeling it that day. You keep things very hush hush about updates on pic's or weigh in days. It could be just me missing them as I do slack off on reading all these logs some days!

hey D, I was kinda going to keep this under wraps since I didn't want to seem like a stalker or anything, but since I've lurked for so long I remember you saying you're living in North Smithfield. I personally live in Smithfield and if there's anything you want me to do for you/want me to keep you in-check nutrition wise/need a spot to lift with just let me know man.
I'm not saying you need someone who's going to force food down your throat, but it's clear everyone wants to see you gain, and being someone who recovered from an ED, bulked up from a skin and bones 149, and has been through similar (not quite as harsh) situations as you, I feel like I could really help you out.
Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need anything.

Guys... it's more than just the food.
As much as I agree with D needing to gain a little...you can't just say to someone, "eat". Of course, it IS what the person should be doing, and it's relatively easy for someone to just tell another person to eat...but it really is beyond that. Recovery isn't just eating more and gaining weight.
What if D gained 10 lbs, but still is hanging onto ED thoughts? That's when relapses happen. I've seen people go from anorexic to a normal weight, and everyone thought somehow they were recovered, just because they gained weight...little did they know, that person still had a lot of things ****ed up in his head, despite the weight gain. It comes down to him needing to sort out a lot of different issues on a psychological level.
My point is...be encouraging. I am sure he is trying, but knowing where he comes from, it's very difficult and frustrating when everyone is just telling you to "eat" or "stop" what you're doing. It's not as simple as that.
Side note: D, have you thought about going into counseling? JW.

Exactly, to everything above. Last Spring an outsider would have said I was recovered: I had gained 20 lbs and was 146 which is small but "normal range." I still did not have a healthy relationship with food however, which is why I came careening all the way back down to where I am now.
From what I've read D seems to be well on his way though and is a great help to others including myself.
Your side note: I'm pretty confident he is seeing some one and has been for a while

Precisely.
And that is good he is seeing someone. I believe that everyone needs someone to talk to on a professional level, at least a little, in order to fully recover. I have never really met anyone who recovered 100% without a little shrinkin'.

Personally, I don't think anyone with an ED ever recovers 100%. There are always going to be unnecessary thoughts that go in that person's head. It is all about overcoming those thoughts and doing what you know is right.

You may not agree with the way I go about things. Eating "clean". I frankly don't care. I understand nutrition as well as anyone on these boards (save a few mods, even Dan"thedoubter"themanB will tell you that). I understand thermodynamics, calories in vs calories out. I eat the foods I do because I want what is best for my body, I enjoy eating them, and feel better doing so. I ate crap growing up and looked like crap and felt like crap. I have tried going back to that and experienced the same thing.
Whether its reality or my own perception, my perception of how I feel is my reality. I don't hate on dirty bulkers, so don't hate on me. Don't look at my food choices and say I am doing it wrong because I don't eat Ben and Jerry's or throw candy in my proats. Sure I could give into the peer pressure and do it because its popular, its what everyone else does, its what you all would probably prefer to see. But frankly, I pride myself n my mental toughness. I have never given into peer pressure. Never.
I am 23 years old. I have never touched tobacco, alcohol, drugs. Don't need them. Don't want them.
I am religious. May not be popular. I am not afraid to say it.
I a 23 years old and I have never cursed or sworn.
I am 23 years old and never had sex. Why? Because I don't believe in pre-marital sex. Laugh at me. Listen. I dont care.
I am 23 years old and I don't wear the trendiest clothes. I wear what I find comfortable, even if its not trendy.
I am 23 years old and I may not have a large group of friends because of all these decisions I make. I don't care. It may subject me to ridicule, it may make for some lonely weekends, and it certainly hasn't been easy. But I will continue moving forward.
My diet, my lifting, my progress, is no different than any other part of my life. Maybe some day I will want to eat other types of things. But for today, I am focused on today. No one is guaranteed tomorrow.
So don't condemn me for my choices from being different than yours, because I don't condemn you for making the opposite choices.
On second thought,
Tell me what I am doing wrong, I'll do it right

Tell me I am starving myself, So that I will keep feeding that hunger.
Telling me I am throwing in the towel, So that I never stop fighting
Please, tell me what I can't do. Because I can.
You don't know me, no one on here does. You may think you know me or someone like me but you don't. You don't know my situation growing up. You know what I tell you and nothing else. I choose to keep things private because I chose to keep everything to myself, not just on this site but in all my life dealings. There is only one person who knows as much as my name and where my current address is (and no its not N. Smithfield). And even that person just found out in the last week. He knows who he is and I trust he will keep that private.
I have been through hospitalizations, solitary living units, living in a psych ward (because thats where a certain hospital put their ED patients) for a month with loons you can't even imagine, had organ systems shut down, a heart rate below 30, a BMI below 14, half a dozen therapists. I am not there anymore. I dug myself out of that hole long ago. Maybe you will read about it some day. I have hundreds of pages written already.
You may think I lack progress. I dont care. I am getting better and will continue to do so. You can tell me I am not. I dont care I dont care what you think. I log because it helps me and some say it has helped them. I answer others nutrition questions because I have knowledge of the subject.
I give advice to people with EDs, not because I have overcome everything or think they are weak. They could very well be further along in recovery than me. So call me a hypocrit. I dont care.
I help them because I dont want them to experience what I have experienced. The further you get into an ED, the harder it is to get out. I have experienced just as much as anyone with one, so I can relate to what they are going through. One day with an ED is Hell on Earth. 8-9 years of an ED, well, try to imagine. I don't want to experience another day of it and don't want anyone else to either.
I sometimes chuckle at people thinking they even have an ED, considering the depths of mine. Not saying this for pity because I don't want your sympathy. Pity is what the weak want. I am not weak. I continue to fight.

Reading back over my post, I just wanted to clarify.
I didn't say what I said because I think my way is the best way.
I said it because I have one life to live and I am not going to waste it, living it the way I think others want me to.
If you have found happiness eating Ben and Jerry's (yes back to that example), then I am happy for you. REALLY, I AM! I am glad you are living a life that makes you happy. If you want to ditch dieting and working out all together because it just brings strain to your life, then I hope you do that. Why torture yourself?
If lifting, hitting PRs, etc., makes you feel a sense of accomplishment, then I am glad for that all the same.
My point is, to do what you do because YOU want to.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to determined4000 again.
Well said, not many people know what it takes to recover from an ED, it's a mental mind-****.. and I for one believe that one never goes back to normal 100%. all you can do is keep improving, and know that you deserve better.
all that I ask is that you be completely honest with what you post as far as updates, because that's how we can help you. Screw the people who just critisize and be open to those who are there only to help.. it's a slow ride, but it's not impossible to reach.
you're doing fine, just the fact that you recognize the problem is a big step on it's own.
but you already know all this right? ;)

D,
You and I may disagree on a variety of things (personally, give me whiskey and a coke and I'm a happy guy!), but I completely agree with your philosophy otherwise.
Only you know what's right, and the fact that you've mastered your own fears and have had the gall to face whatever problems you've inflicted upon yourself is proof of that.
Stay the course friend.

I have to say, I personally didn't know the totality of what you've been through. When I consider by comparison what you have faced and what I have faced, it almost makes me ashamed to think that I considered what I've been through to be a struggle. It's a relief to know that you are now no longer in that same place, regardless of where you may be now. To pull yourself up from where you've been shows just how strong a person you are; how much drive you've got, how much more potential you've got. You didn't throw in the towel back then, and you sure as sh*t ain't going to throw it in now- you've shown that you can be at rock bottom and still fight back, and I can't begin to describe the amount of respect that I have for you. To imagine 8 years of living with an ED literally sends chills down my spine, 3 years was bad enough and I've been nowhere near the depths to which you have. As you said in your post, no, I don't know you, but every single fibre of my body is telling me that there is no way you can't not be a guy who has the mental toughness and the sheer determination to face your issues and to be successful. Your past should be the fuel to keep you driving forward, and if the doubts of others contributes to feeding that fire, then let them doubt- all you're going to do is prove them wrong. As with many of the other guys here who have suffered from an ED, you and I are both at different stages of recovery; however, I'm not naive enough to think that I've gone about things the right way, or tried anything which is necessarily any better or any worse that what anyone else has done. If what you are doing is what is right FOR YOU, then who are we to argue, who are we to judge? Akin to the way you live your life, it's different strokes- your way may be different to my way or to someone else's way, but live and let live.
You've got the ability to do this- if my words aren't enough to convince you (which I doubt they would be,) then look at the support you have from others. We believe, and so should you. If ever questions should be raised about a certain method, it's not because we think it's wrong, it's because we so badly want you to overcome this. I don't know what support I personally can offer but all I'll say is that I'm here, not even necessarily as someone for you to come to if you want advice, or as someone to turn to when you're having troubles, but as someone who is willing to give as much encouragement as they can, to help you keep positive and, more importantly, keep on pushing forward.
Keep going D. Today, tomorrow... Just keep pushing.

D4000, I'm going to do the best I can to support you. I really want to. This is not an attack. But I have to agree with DanTheManB. D, I think it is truly an inspiration that you have fought through so much in terms of your mental and physical health. i.e., fighting through an ED, hospitalizations, solitary living units, and living in a psych ward etc. I can't pretend to imagine how difficult these challenges have been, and still are, for you.
But this is a bodybuilding forum D. Or more specifically, a bulking thread. Your bulking thread D.
Please understand, Your philosophical catch-phrases, whilst inspirational, have absolutely no meaning in this context. Why? 182-206lbs in 5 weeks = 4.8lbs per week. How much do you really think of that was muscle? Obviously you don't mind the fat gain.
Just curious as I haven't seen your goals etc yet :)
btw D I agree with Dan etc, you should be a machine by now :) a complete animal!! All that knowledge would be put to awesome use in the scheme of things!!

Reading back over my post, I just wanted to clarify.
I didn't say what I said because I think my way is the best way.
I said it because I have one life to live and I am not going to waste it, living it the way I think others want me to.
[...]
My point is, to do what you do because YOU want to.
Until I read that I wanted to respond with "Good for you, but don't be a "holier than thou"-******* now".
Keep going strong and do what makes you happy.
Dan: good physique, but don't hack on people who have had EDs in the past, please. Makes me want to massage your face with a brick. (yes, e-tough guy! :D)
Edit:
just read the responses, and I gotta agree
Eat.
More.
Food!
I know it's very difficult (I am a former fat boy, and I am struggling with this as well), but it's the only way.

Oks I think the hate needs to calm down in this log. I FEEL as if its one thing to help give your 2cents but its a bit out of hand how things are turning out.
No one is going to solve anything with trash talking each other! Id like to see this log keep going and not turn into a flame fest / go away as I know I wouldn't feel comfortable posting my updates knowing I am going to walk into a **** storm :/
Edit: Dan that is also some really nice work if you gained that much from eating and training hard!
