Background
My name is Jessica and I am a workout-oholic. I am not going to go into all of the details of my past - if you would like to know more about me, you can check out my old journal http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=111216501 - but I will give you some of the main points that have had the most impact on my life.

* I use to be overweight. At my heaviest I was about 185lbs
* I first got hooked to being healthy and following an actual 'plan' by following the programs made by Scivation
* I competed in my first Figure Competition last July in the IDFA Toronto Classic and placed 5th
* I am currently attending college to receive my Exercise Science Diploma
* As of last Saturday, I am 16 weeks out from my next competition. I am planning to compete in my provinice's Southern Competition with the hopes of moving on to Provinicials.
* I am also commpeting in the OBF competition - I posted pics today http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122881521&page=3

Program
I am following the training and diet programs which are given to me by my best bud, and trainer, Jaim91. Last year she helped me shed unwanted fat and helped me with my competition prep. With her help this year I hope to bring a new and improved 'package' to the stage :)
Right now, I train 5 days a week - 4 days of weight lifting and 5 days of cardio.

GoOd EvEnInG :o

Like I have mentioned, things havent slowed down much around here. I am still staying with my brother which makes things a little more rushed during the day, but I am a great organizer and planner. On Saturday I met with my practicum supervisor and we discussed what sort of things I will be doing. We didnt set any exact dates or times yet because she is out of the country for a bit, but I will probably be starting after next week. I am really excited and cant wait to start. I took one class from her a couple of years ago at my work, and she remembered me from it :)
School has been crazy lately. At least it seems like it lol. There are all of these projects and assignements and exams that keep popping up faster than I realize, AND there are a bunch that I keep forgetting about that are going to be due soon. Today I figured it would be a good idea to write down everything so I dont actually forget something lol.
Today after my Anatomy Lab, my instructor came up to me and asked what program I was in. I told him Exercise Science. He then asked what I plan to do afterwards because I am really impressing the heck out of him (lol). I said I am hoping to be a Personal Trainer but that nothing is set in stone. He went on to say how impressive I was and that if training is my passion, to do it, but to know that I keep impressing him and can do other things. Funny he told me that today because I was feeling tired and didnt even feel like going to class lol :p - However I would never miss a class because I was tired.

At least I got in on the first page.....sheesh.

Congrats on impressing the Anatomy professor. They usually can be pretty quick to size up students because so many different types of people take Anatomy en route to their chosen field. So if you impressed this individual.....you clearly earned it. Not like it would be expected otherwise though.

Work those legs baby! Oh and I agree follow your passion in regards to the job. Sucks when you don't and you feel so stuck.

Compete...yes a part of me does. Having said that I think I would have a heart attack from the stage fright! I'm kinda between a rock and a hard place. I'd prefer to be in bodybuilding as I like the flexing part of it ...but I'd have to get bigger legs to have any chance at a win..however I'd currently do better in figure as my body fits that easier BUT I'd have to wear those damn heels! Put those babies on and I'd be 6'2! ...so I dunno

Hai
Despite being tired - I really need to get to bed earlier - I had a really good workout this morning :) When I think about prepping, I want to know that I put everything I have into every part of it. I dont want to look back and say 'that workout' or 'that day of my diet... could have been better'. I want to be able to say 'I did everything I could have'. I know as the prep goes on, the days will get harder with more cardio and decreased calories, but I am going to stay positive and continue to work hard.
Other than that I dont have much to update on. I'm excited for work today because we are going to the Mixed Martial Arts Center. Maybe I will learn some cool moves (and maybe some kicks just incase I go back to TO)

Thanks Sammy :) I was suprised when he told me. I LOVE anatomy and do well in it, but I have never purposefully tried to stand out and make an impression.

I have to say I am disappointed that you werent in here sooner. I thought you cared.

I know you like working my package. I figure the reason why you wanted me to compete was cuz you liked rubbed Jantana all over me. And then when I heard you taped it .... well that just confirmed everything.

*Cue the look of surprise....* ?

No surprise what your prof said -- huge compliment but we all know you are capable of great things!

I really like using the cables for hip extensions. You can really concentrate on squeezing at the top and moving slow on the negative.

Sometimes I wish I had a little fairy or something to come and tell me what to do with my life. It would be so much easier if something just said 'do ___ and you will be happy for the rest of your life'

No you wouldnt. Trust me. The rush from the stage is INCREDIBLE. I thought I would be frightened but it was actually energizing and motivating. I was shaking SO bad when I stepped up there - part of it was nerves but most of it was excitement. Dont let heels stop you :p I am 5'10 1/2 with no heels and my shoes were 4inches! You learn to adjust.

No "you had me at hello" for her....just "I want you to compete...so I can rub Jantana all over you, and if a video cam happens to catch it on film, so be it..." It's classy, but to the point.

PS Shuddup. You are making life harder than it is. However... I like $$ lol Life is supposed to be hard Jess. That's what makes it fun and challenging.

And $$ is nice too.

I dont have a workout to post because I posted it earlier but I thought I would make a short post anyways.
Work today was lots of fun. The class worked in partners and I was hoping that an odd number of students would show up so that I could pair up with some one but no luck :( I still had a great time watching and learning. The class was taught some different take down and defense moves by a very well known MMA trainer in my city (he also use to fight). It was really cool and something I would like to try one day. And if some one ever came after me I now know TIE-UP - Thumb In Eye Under Pressure ;)

teach me things
Why? So you can counter and block my moves? No way. I know how you work. You get people when they least expect it and I think it is only fair that you get the same.

You're the one who told me you wanted me in your hotel room....

I didnt even get the 'if the camera ..' bit. She told me after it all happened.

True. And I do like challenges and overcoming them.

Err....I'd be careful bringing that up around her Jess. She used to have billboards, but the city made her take them down....I believe the official letter she got said..."Please stop using pornography as an avant garde approach to tourism...We are getting complaints from parents with young children." It went on for 3 pages stating how her "posing" wasn't exactly suitable for a public campaign. We tried to use them as a business idea by putting her number on there, but there were too many calls asking "is this the number I'm supposed to call for a good time in Toronto?" Lesson learned....

I would be lieing if I said that everything has been going spectacular. For some reason I have been gaining weight  I dont understand it at all . As soon as I started prepping my weight has gone up. I've decreased calories and added more cardio, yet my weight is still up. I am so confused.

Other than that, things have been okay. I wrote a Nutrition exam yesterday and to
morrow morning I write an Anatomy exam. I also start my practicum tomorrow. My superviser sent me my schedule and this is what I will be doing tomorrow:
Observe PT session with Joel
Participate in Group PT Challenge
Observe TRX/Spin

I will also be going on Saturday. It will be a BUSY day. Here is what that day will be like:
Lean body testing at 8am till 8:30
From 8:30 till 9am front desk.
Fitness competitor coming in to work on her routine at 9am
10am shown the Pt on the Net program, land marking, assessment
11:30 participate in the Group Pilates class
12:30 design your own program using the Pt on the net

Lean body testing at 8am till 8:30
From 8:30 till 9am front desk.
Fitness competitor coming in to work on her routine at 9am
10am shown the Pt on the Net program, land marking, assessment
11:30 participate in the Group Pilates class
12:30 design your own program using the Pt on the net [b]

PT on the net is f***ing awesome. Best investment I've made online in a while.

Other than www.chubbycanadianmilfs.com

let me know how this goes, k??

Protection. I should look at ordering some body armour. Apparently Jaime likes to not only punch people in the ovaries and give the backhand, BUT also kick people.

Some b*tches need kicking.

Prep is blowing. I thought it was going to be easier than last time. Seems like I am some how working backwards.

It's not blowing... it's just slightly complex now... :)

It'll be ok Jess. Just a little glitch. That's all.

You do you...and you will be fine. :)

But the body armour is a good idea...especially if you take fish oil or EFA...

Some b*tches need kicking.

We already discussed that you don't kick that hard...you are more like a deranged lord of the dance who hasn't taken their medication while I just happen to be standing there.

It doesn't hurt.....and it isn't scary. It's more...saddening and possibly anger that you must suffer in such a manner due to lack of medical attention.....

Ima talk to people and get a TV infomercial to get you help.....

I guess it's about time I give you all an update eh :p Well busy busy OMG. School has been crazy and having to put in hours for practicum this week has put me behind on studying and working on assignements. Practicum has been good though. Last week I tried TRX for the first time. It was quite hard - lots of balance and core stability work. Today I am attending two classes - Boogie Box and Goddess Appeal.
Prep wise things have been..... s-l-o-w. I weighed in Sunday and my weight went down a bit but it isnt even close to where I want it to be or where I thing it should be. Im going to weight again tomorrow morning and if things havent changed then Jaime will make some adjustments. I hope my body turns around :(

Some lifts from previous workouts I didnt get to post....

Military Press 70lbs x 8
Barbell Curl
50lbs x 9
Front Squats
80lbs x 6
Barbell Lunge
60lbs x 10

47.5lbs x 12

Strong SLDL
Ok TRY to not get discouraged. You just started and it'll all work out. Trust me, the same thing is happening to me at the moment. Give it time and so will I
It's hard. I see other ppl around me that are doing comps and they look so lean and ripped. It makes me jealous and makes me wonder what the F my body is doing lol. BUT these ppl are doing a comp in May which is a month earlier than mine

Both of you need to chill the fawk out with your 'worrying about weight gain'

Don't make me angry!!

You are both hot ..... and lean..... and hot....... and ...... well, you get the point.
Easy for you to tell us to calm down. If you gained weight like I have when you are trying to cut you would probably freak too lol

It'll be ok Jess. Just a little glitch. That's all.

No time for glitches. I weigh in tomorrow and things better be good lol. I thought this prep would go better than last time but it has been the opposite.

Finally. Sunday finally brought me some of the right changes on the scale. Things are finally moving and I think they will continue :) I am 12 weeks out and about 20lbs away from my goal weight. It's gonna be tough but I can do it :o
My sister is visiting from Oregon and so I have been spending lots of time with her. She even came to the gym with me last night :) She didnt do my entire workout because she got a weird cramp/muscle spasm thing in her quad but we did cardio and cable work together. She also showed me some streches to help anterior head carriage and we talked about other corrective exercises for muscle problems.

On the school side of things, I wrote one exam last week which I am super nervous to get back, and I have completed all of my practicum hours - expect I have to have a final meeting with my supervisor. This week I have a big biomechanics project due on Thursday as well as a paper for another one of my classes. I am ready for a break and for summer to begin :D

I am tired of being stuffed up and sick :( My sister brought her cold along with her for the visit and it decided to stay with me. I feel better than I did last week, but my nose, eyes and sinuses are plugged. Yuck.
I am so glad that Easter is over. I went to 3 family dinners, all of which had food like strawberry angel food cake, baked potatoes, stuffing (although I am not a fan of stuffing), Easter chocolates, and lots more yummy things that I couldnt AND didnt touch :) I instead ate lots of veggies and had turkey and ham.

My sister went home yesterday and I miss her already. Something crappy happened to her at the airport. She brought her dog along with her and has taking her on the plane before, but for some reason the lady at the airport decided to be extra sticky about things and said that her dog was too tall. My sister had to call my mom - who had already left - so that she could come and get her dog. So my sister flew back solo and I am now taking care of her dog.

I am super excited for today's workout because I got a new program and I love the looks of it :) Hopefully with this new routine, the added cardio and the diet changes, my body will start responding like it should and some body fat will 'melt' away. My weight has still be flip-flopping. I lose a little and then I gain it back. I lose a little and then I gain it back  Frustrating. I have my head up though :o

Day 1 of the new program was a success. It felt good but I have to admit that I hate taking longer than 1 minute breaks. I get ansy and worked up and just want to do my my next set right away.

Have any of you watched that "Food Revolution" show? I saw a bit of it the other day and it blows my mind how some people eat and how some people are feeding thier children in schools. Just wow. It makes me really want to do something and change what is going on. How can anyone think that fries are a vegetable? Serious.

I'm tired today. I had trouble sleeping last night and feel like taking a nap right now. No time for that though. I have class and then work and then am meeting some fellow classmates to finish a project. After that it will be time for the gym :)

Another good workout last night. I felt really focused and determined at the gym. I had my iPod on and hardly talked to anyone at all. I dont know what it was. Something was just telling me to concentrate on myself and do what I was there to do. All was good :)

Tomorrow I have 2 big things happening at school. 1) I am being tested for my group training and portable equipment training. I have to teach some fellow classmates an 8 minute cardio (aerobics) class and then a 6-8 minute portable equipment class. I'm not worried about the equipment one but the aerobics class should be interesting - it always is when we practice lol. Then 2) I have a big posterboard presentation that my group is setting up in the center of the school. We were assigned groups in class and then had to pick a topic to set up a booth about. My group is doing "New and Cool Fitness". We are going to have BL for Wii set up for people to play.

I use heavy weight. I didnt say I dont need a rest.... just not over 1 minute lol. Lifting really heavy with low reps is weird that way. I find my muscle fatigues but I never feel as 'worked' as compared to when I would lift weight for say 10 reps or more. You know what I mean?

This morning I did my group training and portable equipment testing for my certification. I was really nervous, didnt sleep well and even dreamt about it. Once I got started though, it was lots of fun. I stuck around and the end of class to get my marks.
Cardio = 91.6%
Portable Equipment 1 = 97.2%
Portable Equipment 2 = 91.6%
(We had to use two different pieces of portable equipment. That is why there are 2 marks)

Now I just have to make it through my fitness presentation today.

You know how things can change in a matter of seconds. Well just to show you how the weather works where I live here are a few pictures from yesterday morning...

The power was knocked out all over the area (I heard like 500 000 people were without power and some still are, and around 400 power lines/poles were knocked down), and everything was shut down. I was suppose to write 2 final exams and a quiz but because classes were cancelled, they have been rescheduled. And after all of that yesterday, today the sun is shining and it is gorgeous out.
Luckily the power did eventually turn on and stores and the gym :D did open.

HIIT and Core
Treadmill
3 minute warm up
20 minute intervals (1:1)
22 minutes steady state

Core

Major volume. It was like Va-Va-Voooooom

Just when I think Jaime's workouts can't get harder........they do. Crazy!! Good job getting through all that... the reps are insane! You are a tough girl Jess!

What a beautiful day. The sun is shining and I had my last class of the year! Wow did the first year of school fly by. I'm not completely done though - I still have 4 exams to write (tomorrow morning, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday).

Good News - I think I have gotten a spot at the YMCA teaching spin on Wednesday nights! It is only a volunteer position BUT they give their instructors a free membership, certify them with a YMCA certification AND send them to conferences and workshops to 'stay up to date' :) I talked with the lady yesterday and we are going to ease into things. I am meeting with her next week :)

This weekend is gonna be crazy busy! Tomorrow I am writing my Nutrition final exam and am then volunteering at a girls fitness promotion camp called "Go-Girls" at the college. Then on Sunday I am doing a photoshoot with my mom :o And of course during all of this I will be studying!

I had a good workout today. I pretty much always do cardio by myself. Actually besides when my sister was here, I dont remember the last time I did cardio with some one. And when I did it with my sister we didnt talk - just focused on what we were doing lol. Anways, I went to the gym earlier than normal and just as I was getting on the elliptical the gym owner's wife (who gets trained by my bf and has had us over for supper before) came by and got on the machine beside me. She loves to visit and is a sweet lady. We talked quite a bit and she told me she did more cardio than usual just cuz I was doing more than she does and she wanted to stay lol. Let me tell you this... it was nice having some one to chat with but chatting + HITT made me extra out of breath :p

Lower BodyJump Squats
20lbs/hand x 10
1-Legged Leg Press
55lbs x 8
Squats
105lbs x 7
RDL
135lbs x 6
Leg Press Calf Raise
310lbs x 16

Cardio - HIIT
Elliptical
3 minute warm up
20 minutes Intervals (15:45)
22 minutes Steady State

That's so crazy!!! It's so true though - weather can change so quickly. Is all the snow gone at least?!

Great job on the HIIT and core!
There is still some snow around but it's been like +16-18C so it is melting really fast.

LMAO, my mom told me about the weather. Good 'ol Lethbridge.

Yup. Good ol Lethbridge is all we can really say lol

It never hurts to mix it up from time to time...especially when you are used to doing a lot of workout aspects on your own. Keeps things interesting and the time flies.

Plus, the right people in this setting can be like missing link in workout regimens and strength gains. I kinda always feel a little bittersweet with that...I've had some great workout peeps in the past, so while I am used to the solo gig now...I still miss having good fun and reliable people to meet up with. It is what it is eh?

And awesome on the YMCA gig!!!!! Sounds like a pretty sweet opportunity :)

I am putting out a reward to anyone who finds and returns my metabolism. If you see it, please catch it and return it to me ASAP -- time is running out.

The weather this weekend was beautiful. On Saturday I wrote my Nutrition exam and then helped at a Go-Girl Health Camp for young girls aged 9-13. It was a lot of fun. I love kids :)
I had some cardio to do that day but instead of going to the gym, my bf and I went for a 1.5 hour bike ride. We were planning on going out to movie afterwards but we were both too tired lol. Instead we rented one.

Yesterday my bodybuilder friend from my gym and I went on a photoshoot with my mom. It was fun but I definelty wasnt feeling as lean and fit as I would have liked for the shoot. My mom has only processed a few of the pics but when I get more of them I may post a couple to share with you all.

Well I had better get back to the books. 2 more exams to go!

Wow, that's so awesome about the spin position!! How exciting. Even if it's only one night per week, you never know what other doors that might open!

Totally agree about the spin and that is why I took it. I need to start somewhere, I need to get practice and I need to get noticed and meet people.

Silly me thinking I would be relaxing and having 'free time' now that school is done. I was so wrong thinking that. Yesterday I handed out resumes all day - serious - it took all day. And today I went for an inetrview :) It was for a sales rep position at GoodLife Fitness. UNfortunatly they dont have a personal training program there right now but it is something they are hoping to get back. The interview went great but I dont know what I think of this job. Yes it would be great to get some sales experience, Yes it would be great to work at a gym, Yes it would be great cuz there is a chance to move up on thier employment scale.... BUT it would only be part time. Only 25 hours/week and a pretty low wage.
I am waiting on another interview from the Research Station (where I worked before). It is for a grounds keeping job. The thing with this job is it would be great hours, easy to book time off, I think good pay, and I wouldnt be stuck at a desk - I would get to be outside :). BUT it isnt in a gym and isnt related to fitness and training.
I'm keeping things open right now and am hoping I get some more phone calls :o

Today I finished writting my first spin routine :D Then I went through a practice run at the gym. I was so tired by the end. Which I would say, is a good thing ;) I hope the class likes it. After I did my cardio, I did legs. Wow. My legs are tired. I cant imagine what they are going to feel like during/ after the spin class tomorrow lol.

Job hunting is just a rough gig no matter how you slice it. I think that in your situation, there are a number of factors to keep in mind. The job at the Research Station sounds like it would fit your personality...active, being outside, nice hours, potentially reasonably good pay... But I think JUST as important, if not AS important to keep in mind is....what are you looking to do in the future? You are pursuing the education you are with a goal in mind no? The hardest thing that people do is dealing with change, and taking risks and not just doing the safe or convenient thing. While the job at the Research place certainly sounds good...because it is a job, and it pays money which is nice when jobs do that....you can't replace the experiences you get in jobs that are perhaps a little closer to what you want to be doing in the future. You are doing the education aspect, but it might be a decent thought to keep in mind that the safe choice might NOT necessarily be the best one to teach you new skills that you are going to need to have in place for your future position. The crappy thing about starting out is most of the time, those beginning positions are not as secure in hours or pay scale. However, what you stand to gain in EXPERIENCE is worth more than money, and experience is something that can't be taken from you. It is a gift you give yourself to allow for personal growth and success. Think of it this way: you took a risk in leaving a "secure" job to follow your dream, correct? Why short change yourself now? No sense in doing things half-assed. You really aren't that kind of girl. You can always get an accessory gig to help with living funds (because you don't get to live for free). It blows but sometimes investing in yourself comes with some scrambling and just making things happen one way or another.

Just my 2 cents. :)

1) All about working through the burn
2) I bet you could convince her. If you say it enough she will believe you1) Always
2) Shh...we'll keep it a secret and test it some day ;)

No sense in doing things half-assed. You really aren't that kind of girl. You can always get an accessory gig to help with living funds (because you don't get to live for free). It blows but sometimes investing in yourself comes with some scrambling and just making things happen one way or another.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Spin was AWSOME. OMG. I had SO much fun teaching! And what a workout. I know how hard spin can be but adding in the teaching factor made it even more intense. I loved it. I was a little nervous at first but as I got going things only got smoother and better. It was a big class too - I counted 18 participants! They all seemed to like it and looked like they had a really good workout. The other instructor - the one I am taking over for and runs things at the YMCA - was there. She told me I did really well and sent me an email saying that I am a 'natural leader' :)
My body is feeling all of this work. My entire body is tired and sore. I havent worked out yet today so I dont have anything to report. I will be doing HIIT and upper body.

No more calls about jobs yet :(

I'm not a baby!

I'm a man!

I'm a man who invented the wheel! And built the Eiffel Tower out of steel and BRAUN!

A man? Really? You had me fooled.

No workout yet today but I wanted to give some updates. I think - fingers crossed / no jinxing - my weight is finally starting to work with me :o. Some adjustments have been made and things are starting to fall into place. After getting together with Nori on the weekend I've decided that I need to start practicing my posing. Im planning on doing some videos and you gals can tell me what you think. Sound cool with you all?

Yesterday I went and watching 2 of my friends compete at the IDFA Calgary Classic Show. I am SO glad that I went. Not only glad because my one friend pwnd her catagory and placed 1st! :) But cuz it brought back the excitement and memories of competing last year! OMG. I cannot explain how stoked and motivated I am. It's extreme!! I remember the rush, the excitement, the nervousness, the depleted-ness (is that a word? lol), the competiveness, the gross smell of fake tans, the vendor booths, the loud music, the cheering (and I have to say I had THE BEST cheering team last year), the bright stage lights, the....... YEAH. Just everything.

Congrats on your First Spin Class !!! How fun. You must have been nervous - but a fun kind of nervous!! Yes? Wooot !! That rocks. And she's a Natural Born Leader folks or killah !! killah of legzzz ! LOL Have yourself a great weekend.

Hey all

So as promised (did I promise ) here is a vid I took from my posing practice today. Wow is posing hard!
I run through the poses twice. The first time something wonky is going on with my back pose - my left side doesnt 'pop' like I want - BUT the second time around it does! Let me know if you all can see the difference. I suggest watching the video bigger than the small post below if you can.

Here is also yesterday upper body torture. Ouch.

HEY HEY HEY

I finished off my week with some good stuff. I did the last workout of my training program and am starting a new crazy fat loss FTW program on Monday - I ran this program during the last 4 weeks of my prep last year and remember how insane it is. WHOO! Progress in the making? I think so :o
I also booked a flight to go and visit my sister :) Before that though, I scored a job at the Research Center. It doesnt start until the end of the month so that is why I wanted, and am going to take a few days to travel to the states where my sis is. I was worried about travelling and being away from home since it is so close to competition time, but last time I was down there I went to the gym so workouts are not a problem. And food shouldnt be a problem cuz I can go shopping for myself and I will pack my food scale along. Preparation is key ;)

Today is my bf's birthday. Earlier today I picked up his DQ ice cream cake - sigh - but will be treating myself to some sugar-free jello instead of the cake.

I did it. I made it through the weekend - homemade burgers and 2 DQ Ice Cream Cakes. Oh how I wanted a piece BUT I want to pwn this competition more :D
I'm starting my new workout program today. I decided to do cardio this morning because the workout that is about to come is hellz intense and I wanted to have more energy for both weights and cardio. I am going to send out a message - if I do not return to the forums, you can more than likely find me puking or passed out on the gym floor. That is how crazy this workout is. Gotta work!

Oh and I had some time today so I did some more posing and took some vids. Again I love hearing ALL comments. I did this after lunch today and felt a bit bloaty, so I apologize for the chub.

I probably would have taken the weights I was using and thrown them at him, and yelled more than "Don't!" There would likely have been profanity...and I likely would have gotten removed from my gym...or been arrested for assault.

So he got off the hook easy. You are a good person.

My unicorn is special. Only I can see her horn. Interesting. Is it a full size horse/unicorn? Or more like a Shetland pony/unicorn? Kinda like a fun size horse?
I thought I saw a unicorn once, but it was actually my friends dressed up in a horse costume standing next to a tree branch. What a let down that was when I tried to climb on it/them and demand that it grant me wishes. The bastards threw me to the ground and started yelling at me. OMG, I can't believe your bf did that, lol. I would've done the same thing...along with the DEATH STARE.

Workout looked BRUTAL. I know exactly how you're feeling too...it's the same way I'm going to feel tonight. My leg day is the same, just total damage to the legs.

Excellent work girl!
There was a Death look for sure. Im sure if I had looked at him a second longer he would have burst into flames lol.
How was your leg workout?

At least you allowed him to live.

I probably would have taken the weights I was using and thrown them at him, and yelled more than "Don't!" There would likely have been profanity...and I likely would have gotten removed from my gym...or been arrested for assault.

So he got off the hook easy. You are a good person.
If I had not been so out of breath more words may have been able to leave my mouth.

Oh right...Bess. I saw Bess today though and I don't know how attentive to details she is, she was wearing two different colors of socks. I've never seen you in anything but matching socks.

So...I was probably thinking correctly it was you.
Funny to talk about socks. Today I thought I had a matching pair on but to my suprise, when I went to put on my shoes I noticed they were different :p

They were asking for it so I don't know why they got mad.
Oh he is full size forsure. A big, strong, powerful animal. I had a shetland pony when I was a kid. Her name was Ginger and she was a stubborn little thing. She actually tried bucking me off one time.
That was rude of your friends to trick you like that. They should have known better. I once thought I saw space ship. I was all lit up with colourful lights and making crazy noises. It lasted about 5 minutes and then stopped. A little boy climbed out of it and then asked his mom for another quarter :p

1). Congratulations on still being able to walk. Kudos.

2) Congratulations on being perhaps one of the few people I've met who can both follow bizarre tangential nonsequitor thoughts AND add to them in a way that makes sense. We need to hang out more. I've decided this.

Just wanted to say that I am in Portland visiting my sister - loooong story about my missed flight and ending up in SanFrancisco lol :p BUT I did make it here.
Things are great and I will give more of an update when I have time.

I just wanted to inform everyone...

Honey. I'm home :o

I had an AMAZING time in Portland. The visit with my sister was absolutely wonderful and the city itself is beautiful. Everything remained on track while I was there -- close to. I was introduced to Americanos and had a few before finding out they do have calories and I cant drink them :( BUT after my comp I will be going back to them.

Yesterday I went for my suit fittings. The suits are beautiful. Trying them on has made me realize how close to the competition I am and how much leaner I need to get. I got 4.5 weeks to do this and IT WILL BE DONE. This is what I make it -- I am my maker! With the help of Jaime ;)

Today I practiced posing and thought I'de post some more vids. Comments on anything - the poses, how I look ect - are MORE than welcome.
I know I need to relax my hands lol

Yay!! Glad to hear your trip went so well, and I'm so excited for your comp :D It's coming up fast! You will do awesome.

Stupid question, but why can't you have the Americanos? I mean, all coffee has SOME cals but not very many... how is the Americano different from regular black coffee?

Thank G-d you're home!

I don't know if I can handle more trips if they involve the cupcakes in my thread.....although I'm technically on a maintenance phase...so in theory...I could eat all of them....or something.

That idea seemed appropriate in my head...

So happy you had a fun trip in Portland. Where'd you have your coffee? Not at Government Coffee..? I am surprised to hear that Americano's would have cals. They are normally just long espresso's - black... Did you add sugar??

Looking at your videos. Good work, Jess. Your calves are killah!! Wooot!! Lemme see what comments I can give you... Make sure you are flexing every muscle on pose, particularly your triceps. Mentally run through all your muscles from top to bottom and engage them, including obliques on side poses. Yet you must look gracious and relaxed while doing this! LOL
Your hands - get them to face inward along your sides and relax them completely - like you were letting droplets of water just drip down from your finger tips. (that's a tip from Nathalie Waples).
Stick your butt out and never squeeze your glutes. I'm not seeing you do this here, but it's an important rule for all.
Transition... let's see some work on that in the next vids. :) If there are any pre-comp workshops near you, you should attend. I like to go to these. They're a great way to meet your competitors before comp and there's always something to learn.

Very exciting that you're trying on the new suit!! Don't worry, your body will change alot in the next 4 weeks... and more so in the final 2. Just keep working hard. You are doing GREAT !!! :D

Jaime said "NO" -- that is why lol. She told me I can have coffee and tea though
And no more sugar free syrup for me cuz of the artificial-ness of it.

SUGAR  >> Heck No. I added sugar-free syrup ;) I got them from a few different places. My favorite one came from a drive through place called Dutch Brothers. It was a white chocolate flavour... oh so good.

Thanks for the tips! I know my hands werent relaxed (I metioned that) :p There are so many things to remember lol - practice, practice, practice solves that though ;) I REALLY appreciate your help! The more info, tips and pointers I can get the better! I will work on all of the things you mentioned.
On Saturday I will be 4 weeks out! These changes had better make a move -- they have to and I know they will. I am what I make me. I am the one who will make or break this and buddy... I AM NOT ONE TO BREAK! :D:D

Americanos (especially venti's from Starbucks) have more calories than regular coffees... I'd rather chick not drink her cals (even if it's just a few), OR have the extra stims if she's on a fat burner

Ok...so I may be way off here, but coffee has no calories if nothing is added to it (no cream or sugar).

An americano is simply an espresso shot with hot water. Espresso, is just ground coffee beans...

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/beverages/7400/2

So really, as long as nothing is added to the coffee/americano, what difference does it make?

Edit - Don't mean to step on any toes Jaime. I know you're her trainer, I just wasn't sure where you were getting the calories from. :o

If you look at the Starbucks website... it lists about 25-30 calories in an Americano. Weird.

Interesting. Second Cup lists it at 1 calorie with no carbs, yet the one at Starbucks has 3g.

There is no such thing as TOO much food porn.

If there is....my journal is in and out of Rehab with Dr. Drew more than Dennis Rodman.

But being that you are in a contest prep...I'll chalk that statement up to the workouts and the prep diet and let it slide. :p

I am here. Sort of. I apologize for my absence but things have been ridiculously busy. I started my summer job this week - yay :) I work from 7:30am - 4pm, Monday - Friday. I've been getting up at 5am to go and do cardio, then go home and eat breakfast, then head to work, then go home and eat again, then go to the gym for weights and more cardio, and then home for supper and finally bed. Needless to say, I am tired *yawn*. My job involves a lot of manual labour, but it rained all day yesterday and some more this morning so yesterday and today have been pretty laid back. I spend my 'spare' time packing meals for the next day or doing housework such as dishes and laundry lol. I really need to some how make time to practice posing. I have been slacking BIG time :(
Workouts have been good but I was so tired during yesterdays session. I was trying to push hard and my chest did/does feel sore, but I know my energy wasnt there. I think the lower cals are also playing a part with the decreased energy. HOWEVER, tomorrow I am 3 weeks out and I am willing to do anything and everything to be ready for this show. I cannot explain how extremely bad I want this!
I dont think I have mentioned any details about the show but there are two levels for figure - Tier 1 and Tier 2. First time competitors and people who have not won can compete in Tier 1. If a person has won or placed top 5 at the Tier 1 competition, they then compete at the Tier 2 level (which is a different show). My GOAL is to compete and place within the top 5 at the Tier 1 show (June 19th) and then compete the following weekend at the Tier 2 level show (June 26th). I have decided to have a 'backup' plan for the June 26th show, if I dont make the placing to move on in figure. The federation has a Bikini Model catagory which only has one level. That catagory competes at the June 26th show -- So, if Figure doesnt happen for me (I HATE thinking and saying that but it could very likely happen), I will still compete on the 26th but move to the Bikini Model catagory. I hope that made sense lol :p
I wasnt sure if I wanted to do that but I talked to my mom - who can only make it to see me compete on June 26th - and she said that since I am putting in all of this work, may as well do the show. And she can come watch :)

I dont have my workout book with me but here are the exercises I did last night.

Sounds like a good plan, Jess. Yes it makes sense! I think you will get your top 5 in Tier 1 with all the work you are doing. I wish I could help you with your posing. It will make a big difference if you are looking more "suave" than the other competitors. Be confident; always smile; look at the judges (don't stare!) just glance at them and smile; connect with the audience... etc ...
Mastering the "soft skills" in life are what will make you a winner - in anything you do!
(That's my motto)
As for bikini, we can discuss if that comes about. You'll have to put yer sexay on for that one! :D

I thought I would give a quick post before I head to work. Things are... okay. My weight has gone up a bit and it is freakin me out. I cannot have this right now. BUT it will get fixed. I have faith.
Work has been good. I think it is finally going to stop raining so I can do some work outside today (I hope :)). Yesterday I moved a bunch of stuff and ended up getting a cut across the palm of my hand. Not super bad or anything but it hurts and made it uncomfortable to hold db's and bb's.

Where to start...
The suits - They look nice but there is a mistake with my 1-piece. It would take a lot to fix and because I dont think it is too noticable I took it how it is and just asked for a discount.
The photoshoot was lots of fun -- like always -- and we got some cool shots -- like always. My mom is so amazing. I only posted a couple. More may come later.

And with good news comes bad news :( Yesterday I woke up and felt horrible. I had a bad headache, my body hurt, and even the thought of fodd made me want to throw up. I knew I needed to eat so I forced myself to have breakfast and then headed to work. As the morning went on I felt worse and worse. My stomach hurt even more and I was exhausted just from standing up. I couldnt take it and went home at lunch time. I slept for a while and then my mom took me to the doctor. Turns out I have a stomach virus, similar to the flu. Cuz it is a virus there is nothing I can do but wait it out. The doctor said it could last a week! :( I was so upset at the thought of not being able to compete this weekend that I started to cry. My mom looked at me and told me not to cry and dont be sad. Instead get mad and beat this thing! With that I went home and slept and slept some more. I wasnt able to workout :(
I feel a bit better today but I didnt go to work this morning. I cant decide if I should go this afternoon or not. I should rest so I can compete but I hate missing work.

Hey Jess - so sorry to hear about the stomach bug... that is terrible! Such bad timing. Definitely rest up!! Try not to worry about work (I know that's hard) but you will get better way quicker if you take it easy. Thinking of you and I hope this bug passes FAST!

GOOD NEWS -- I feel much better :)
Things have been crazy busy! Yesterday I finished my last workout and it feels so weird. I cannot believe the time to compete has come again! It's happening! It's here! :) I probably wont have much time to post because of all of the things I have to do. Tonight I have LOTS of packing and then tomorrow I head to Calgary to pick up Jaime, get my spray tans, register ect. Then Saturday is STAGE DAY!
Thank you all for your great support and encouragement. Once again I could not have done it and made it through prep without you :D:D I will do my best for all of you.

I will be waiting the Saturday text message.

Can't wait to hear all about it. Make sure Jaime makes enough noise for all of us who aren't able to be there in person. If she doesn't....she will suffer consequences. Extreme consequences. She knows what they would be...she wouldn't like them.

Sammy, I think I have one text from you still in my phone. It has no name, just a number... and the message stream goes like this:

Me: Hi
You: Moron

Does that sound familiar? ;)

Several points:

1) I'm kinda mean when I drink apparently. What I meant was "why hello Ninja bean....how goes this wonderful and blessed day?". That is the loose translation.
2) I really should not text people when I drink as apparently the afflicted are prone to use the evidence against me.
3) I should not be drinking at 2:30pm any more.

HI BUDDIES

Well I've picked up Jaime from the airport, gotten my first coat of spray tan, have practiced a bit of posing and am now just chilling in the hotel room until it's time for my second coat of spray tan and registration for the show. I'm a bit relaxed right now but the nerves are trembling! It's all sinking in.
Tomorrow I have a girl coming at 6:30am to do my hair and makeup. THEN PREJUDGING at 10AM!!! Hopefully I can sleep tonight lol

I have a couple of pics to share ;)

Well..... I didnt place :( I worked hard but it just wasnt enough. There were either 19 or 20 competitors in my class and many of them had a lot more muscle than me. Not only do I need more muscle but I need to figure out how to get my lower body leaner (I hate my lower body). But I did what I did and what happened, happened.
I had a GREAT time with friends -- my bf, Jaime, Karina and her husband. After the competition I ate a large oreo cheesequake blizzard, a 6 inch sub from Subway, a cookies and cream Oh Yeah and a diet Dr.Pepper which I was really craving lol.

THANKS to everyone for all of your support. I will post a few pics later.

PS - I have decided to withdraw from my backup plan of competing in Bikini Model this weekend and just stay home.

Given you are who you are as a competitor and as a person who always strives to do her absolute best, it is only natural for you to feel disappointed to a degree. You are you after all. You hate to "lose". And that is OK! :)

But after you have a little time to be disappointed....reflect on what you GAINED. You have additional knowledge of contest prep which will only serve you better next time (because we all know this won't be your last). You have more contest day experience. You proved to yourself, and anyone else who really matters to you (and after yourself, really, who else does or should when it comes right down to it...) that you have what it takes to throw yourself into a long and challenging prep, even when it seems like it is more frustrating than what you've been able to do in the past. You are not a one-hit wonder. You were able to handle a stomach virus...in the same damn week as your comp and still got your @ss on stage when others probably would have caved and sat it out. You emerged from the experience with the knowledge that sometimes things don't pan out the way you would have hoped...but that even when you were frustrated you still put your head down and got through it. Every day, every rep, and every minute of cardio. You gained far more than you lost. And considering it is all an investment in experience, which no one can take from you...it is all your own. You won that.

Glad you enjoyed the blizzard. And congrats for only eating one. Cuz...I'd have eaten....like 5. And had a regular Dr. Pepper. :p

I just need to get a job :p

Sorry for not posting. This 2 jobs thing + training + life = busy and no internet time
I will try to find some time to post something better but for now things are, like I said, busy. Ive been trying to get some clients built up at the gym but it is hard. Lots of people wanna train during the day and I cant do that cuz of my other job. I do have a client that just signed up with me for 24 sessions :) I meet with her for the first time on Monday.
A gym friend of mine also had 1 session with me last week. I think she liked what we did cuz the next day she sent me a text saying her biceps hurt lol. I hope she signs up with me *finger crossed*

As for my training... Ive kind of just been doing my own thing. Next week I will be starting an actual program. It's one that I have done twice before -- Power/Hypertrophy program. I cant wait to get started. My diet has been good. Im slowly adding more and more carbs in to get my weight to come back up. The day before my comp I was 137.4lbs and this morning I was 136.4lbs lol. Crazy cuz I am definetly eating more. Ive been having lots of cravings too :( Stupid ice cream. But I havent caved. Except for last weekend when I had a bit of DQ ice cream cake for my sister's 21st bday :) I know my weight is still quite low and I could probably get away with a few cheats here and there but I still have trouble getting my mind to switch gears and want to gain a little weight back.

I hope you all have a good weekend. PS -- OBF pics are up

The OBF pics are awesome! Told you that there would be a change :p

You let me know if you'd like to borrow some endomorph features for your bulking phase. I would advocate this....but then again, I get weekly ice cream. So think about that.

And bite your tongue that ice cream is stupid!!! We all apparently don't have access to the sugar free stuff in TO. I miss that stuff :(

Jess, do your body a favour and have an ENTIRE CHEAT DAY.

You would be surprised at how much your muscles will use the energy. Plus, you would end up losing more weight after a couple days. Or at least stay the same weight.

DO IT!!!!

x2! You are SO disciplined 99% of the time, which is GREAT - but you just finished a competition! I know it's tough to switch gears though, understandable.

That's so crazy with your two jobs! I know how insane that can be... hang in there!!
