I had a quick back/shoulder/tri workout this morning at 5:30 am. I am going out of town until Saturday so I had to fit my normal shoulder/tri workout that would have been tomorrow, today with back.
Numbers weren't great, and I didn't even deadlift
But I got it done, and I can't move my arms. :D

Nice workout fellas......5 AM workouts are tuff :o
Mark you leavin for Spring Break?
Last night during the walk I felt a little sinus infection coming on and now I've woke up today and it is in fact a cold. Nothing serious and today was supposed to be spinning, so I'm just gonna skip the class and hope this is all gone tomorrow. I kind of had this coming imo, its been about 2-3 weeks that I've been without a multi and haven't been taking any of my vitamin C or D either. So now I'm placing an order somewhere on the world wide web or going to the VS to pick up a multi and maybe a greens powder (if its still on the clearance rack). Diet has been solid but I'm lacking in veggies and fruits I think which had a big hand in this crap. Anyways, hate being sick and can't wait for this to be gone.

Well first off, I've been lifting for 12 years. Of that time probably 8 years were fairly serious years of training with out much lay off. I've had tons of injuries(literally so many you cant even begin to count) that have put me out for periods of time. And I had a drug phase that took me outta the game for a bit.
MOST of this time was spent strength training. Football Training, lifting for school records, Highgames, wanting to be a strongman....Really, I mean, most my life I was a fat kid. I didnt lift to look good. I lifted to be strong so that people would stop picking on me. I just trained to be big, strong and intimidating! :p
Basically all I can say is, dont be afraid to try new things. I've done so many different routines its not even funny. Now I just train instinctively and utilize all the different techniques I've learned when I feel they will be useful.
Set Goals. Write things down. Cross them off as your achieve them. Serious...
Always make sure you train all rep ranges. Dont ever get caught up in the low reps for strength high reps for endurance crap. Yes, it is true to a point, but there are advantages of being strong in ALL rep ranges.
If you want to be big, GAINS ARE MADE AT THE TABLE!
Sleep is more important then you know. Make it a priority. Dont think that the whole "I can sleep when Im dead" mentality will get you far in this game. Sleep 7 hours + a night. On a monthly basis, I'd say my average sleep per night would be right around 8hrs. Last night I only got 4 hours, not a big deal, but last time I did that was weeks ago. And I usually get a nap in on those days.
Always take a Multi Vit, Fish oil, Joint Support, BCAA's and Protein. Creatine, Glutamine, Beta Alinine, and Arginine supps are all optionals. I like to use a couple of them at a time and cycle it.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY!! You really do only have 1! Ruin it, and there is no second chance! At least not for everybody. If you feel sick, take days off, sleep more. If you hurt yourself, take time off, do the rehab, dont rush it. There is no reason to ever rush back from an injury. TRUST ME! Muscle memory is amazing. Its never taken me more then maybe 6 months tops, to return to full size and strength after any injury. Usually get back to where I was within a couple months though.
Thats about all I got for ya. Just know that we are different people and have different body types so you cant expect to have the same results as me or have the same strengths. Its up to you to figure out what your strengths are, and USE THEM! And then also acknowledge your weaknesses and train hard to improve on them.

luke, thanks a lot for your words of advice. i try to heed all of what you said, except recently, i've had my first weight training related injuries. one of them is pretty serious and will take a few months of home rehab. torn meniscus, sprained shoulder, and anterior glide syndrome. i can't even squat with the meniscus... but i plan on taking it slow and easy like you advised.
my supplement regimen isn't too complex: lots of joint supps (cissus, gluco, MSM, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin), creatine mono, protein, EAA, fish oil. of course i take the occasional pre-workout supplement, but i've been on a non-stim binge for the past ~month and plan on getting into the swing of stimulants for a month again.
right now i'm doing the 5/3/1 which i'm using to strengthen all of my bases. so far, i think i'm doing fairly well as i've tried other programs such as DC, HST, P/RR/S, SS and i can compare it to the gains i've made on them. but again, i can feel my injuries are a setback.
my sleep has been 7+ hours on most days since i just switched to a night shift, just sucks because as soon as i get off of work, i have to go to sleep so i can wake up for the school the next morning.
so, huge thanks for taking the time to spell that out for me. i thought i was on the right track, but it seems as if there are still a lot of things i need to learn. :)

I bought 2 tubs of this product recently and have been using now for about 2 weeks or more now. Its a great product for sure and as always the formula is among the best.
I've been using 1 scoop on my upper body days and 2 scoops on lower. The taste is great either way, I really enjoy this flavor! Price is very competitive as well.
I use this product for my 5 AM workouts when there isn't time to get in a meal or shake before the workout. Its also been very useful during my cardio sessions. I find it most valuable during the cardio, its helped with the recovery during the session as well as the next day after. I highly recommend it! I'm currently cutting at 500 cals or more below my maintenance and the weights have been steadily moving up.
I've used a couple of intra workout products and this is my favorite so far. Alot of it has to do with the formula........if you don't believe me then check the logs bro.

Great work guys. 13lbs loss is great.
As for my trip....
I am still here; will be back home tomorrow morning. Food here sucks - diet has definitely been low in protein.
Still trying to keep cals at an estimated 2.2-2.5k cals.
As for workouts, I threw together my back workout with shoulder/tri on wednesday. The only actually workout I'll be missing is a HIIT workout.
I'll be coming back Saturday ready to hit the squat rack

I am just wondering how you have such metabolism that it has been possible to lose so many pounds in such short time period.
Have you dropped carbs out of your diets completely? Ketosis is plausible explanation.
Sorry for not reading every post from this thread if that has been answered already.

more presses
65 x 10, 65 x 8, 60 x 7, 55 x 7, 55 x 10
Chin-ups I fail miserably at these, my goal for the end of this cut is to be reppin' these out
BW x 5, BW x 3
Underhand Lat Pulldowns switched to these after struggling with the chin-ups, didn't have my strap so my hands were getting torn up. I will continue to work on the chin-ups and WILL be good at them.
90 x 10, 120 x 10, 140 x 7 (then 120 x 3 to make it 10 reps)
Cardio
Treadmill: incline 9.0, speed 3.8 for 20 minutes
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Great workout, nice to be back in there almost 100%......I suck at pull ups and chin ups, but will be working hard on those from this point forward.

if your weight is still going down don't sweat the occasional crappy workout... just make sure you don't lose to much strength while getting that beach bod :p
yah idk what it was, maybe its from the reduced cals.....I need to up my protein a bit my recovery has been a bit off the last couple of days. I'll see if that helps a little

you play golf too? Think your right, its most likely due to a slight reverse C action (improper weight shift), something I've had to work on ever since I started. Very common swing flaw among amateurs and it always comes back when I take time off :o .....i hit balls today barefooted to try and get balance and weight shift back down.
This brings me to my next thought, I have no clue how long I'll be able to keep with this 5/3/1. I've made plans for about 5-7 tournaments this summer starting May and ending in August and I'm debating what to do with my training. Worst case scenario I'll have to drop the volume for the season and then pick it back up l8r in September or something...not sure because I like the program so much I'd rather not stop but golf comes first

i only go to the range, i don't know if that's considered golfing, lol
if golf comes first, do what you gotta do. in the end, it's all about your priorities, i would just use weight training as another form of outlet with like you said, low volume so your lats don't get it the way. if you didn't get some good drives, take it out on the weights. if you feel like bashing someone in the face with your wedge, push up cady's instead, lol. make sure you have pics of your wrath face though, i'll stick around. :D

luke i'm surprised you fit that much volume into 1 workout! how much rest are you using between sets? way to start the week of intense!
Whatever I do first is usually my power movement and the rest times will vary depending on the exercise and my goal for that given day but its always a good couple 2-3 mins at least between each set. Once I start super setting its as fast as I can. Sometimes less then a minute between super sets and no rest between exercises. Like for the Peck Deck/Push up superset that was do my set of 15 and then drop right down to the floor and bang out 20 pushups as fast as I can. Go right over to my gear, take a sip of Xtend and go right back and do it again. Those 4 super sets probably took about 5 mins. The Shoulder super set was the same way. All about getting an insane pump and getting my heart rate up. For Triceps I have to wait a minute between sets cause the pump is too painful. Feels like Im gonna tear something and I dont like that much. Im too unlucky in the injury department :o

I just want to thank all you peeps again, srsly. If it wasn't for the constant support and accountability that comes with keeping on top of these workout logs, I'd not be making these improvements. On top of that, my drive is as high as ever! Whether golf takes me away from the big lifts or not it won't matter because I'll still be pushing it hard as fawk in w/e other exercises will be better suited. I suck at abs so maybe I'll put my focus there :o But not yet, I actually feel pretty solid today no DOMS rly and will be able to easily go and swing the sticks l8r.

Since the surgery is Friday - I wanted to clump my leg and back today together today.
My perineum is broken. Tweaked it again just squatting 225 as a warm-up. Not happy. ****ty workout.
Did some other back stuff but overall it tanked the workout. Attempted deads as well, but the pain was too uncomfortable. Didn't want to injure it futher.
Not happy. Totally psyched to workout too. In the zone and everything. Wanted to murder something.
On another note, got a 5/5 on my chem quiz. Feels good man.

Thats what she said! ;P
Nice job Luke. I'm amazed by the turnaround you've experienced with regards to back pain. Seems almost mind of matter. Any principles you can share from that book?
Dude me too! First off, it is very much mind over matter. You must believe in what you are doing and thats the main thing. Im convinced this is what I need to be doing, Im doing it, therefore recovery is enhanced. The main thing from it all is that with the back, your every day posture can very well make or break you. My whole life I've had bad posture. Now I sit up straight, shoulders back, chest out, and I keep that little curve in my lower back, extension wise not flexion. You gotta make sure you keep that natural curve in your Lordis so things like, Lying face down push up extentions and Lying on back knee to chest, are awesome. I have to do both of them daily, as often as I can. Always starting and ending with the extensions. There are other exercises to do as well, but I like these ones best. Warming up early in the morning, and never bend over within the first hour of waking. You need to let the fluid, that builds up all night while you sleep, drain from your spine and start lubricating the joints first or your very prone to injury. 90% of the fluid makes its way out to the joints within the first hour. So I get up at least an hour before I have to do anything every morning and do upper body rotations and lying leg rotations to help get that fluid movin and get the back warmed up. Basically all in all, I just have to be aware of my problem, and take every step to make sure I keep my back strong strong and flexible.

A week.
Although, I must say - motivation is shot. Between the injury, school, wisdom teeth etc...motivation is downhill. I am not nearly as ahead as I was wanting.
When I started cutting back in Dec-January, the weight was coming right off and I was stronger than ever. Happier than ever.
I feel like a fat, weak mess.

Damn this **** sucks. I literally cannot eat anything. The myo lean shake idea is getting old, lol.
I now find myself eating (edit** slurping) chocolate swirl ice cream, skim milk, and aftershock: critical mass shake ice cream soups. **** is delish, but I want to workout and actually eat real food. Oh, I have also found myself downing a few tubs of cottage cheese as well. My only real protein source besides shakes.
On top of that, my internet connection is crappy as hell and can't even watch videos online, do my HW, or really anything. I get like 5 minutes to be online before the internet connection goes sketchy/ craps out

I just tweaked it weird. Feels like a strain/cramp when squatting or right after squatting. It doesn't hurt otherwise - however greatly impairs squatting ability.
I am sure just a week off will be all it takes. (and I am out a week already for sure because of the wisdom teeth)

Perineum gave me trouble on squats again - although it is obviously healing. Didn't notice it until I got to 315 at even at that weight it was subtle. Stopped before I hurt more...
Today I did quad/hammy work and then moved to incline bench.
Decent workout - too busy to log and in all honesty wasn't impressive.

Perineum gave me trouble on squats again - although it is obviously healing. Didn't notice it until I got to 315 at even at that weight it was subtle. Stopped before I hurt more...
Today I did quad/hammy work and then moved to incline bench.
Decent workout - too busy to log and in all honesty wasn't impressive.
good call stopping before the pain got worse... and being able to squat 315 without serious pain sounds pretty good so far!

Happy Easter! :D
I've been slacking off this weekend, livin' the life.....been eating out almost every night but I try to order steak and veggies w/no sauce but its getting tough :o
Had WAY too much to drink the other night and ended up in a casino til' 8 o'clock in the morning....went for a 3 mile run yesterday afternoon so kind of limiting the damage hopefully.
Mark good to hear you can squat, 315 w/ the injury is still way more than I can squat healthy

I'm back now and ready to finish up what I've started
Think I gained a pound over the weekend, not sure cuz' it might just be water/bloat.
Also, this week is my deload so the weights are low but I'll be doing a lot of cardio to make up for the slow week. My fitday vanished, all of my foods that I'd entered were erased so I'm starting all over but with daily plate. I'll start posting up my diet everyday again.
Deadlifts
120 x 5
150 x 5
175 x 5
Military Press
45 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
Cardio
Took this outside, 5 minute jog to warm up......10-15 minutes of HIIT (sprints)....5 minute jog to cool down
Going on a 45 minute walk later tonight

hahah but that's cuz your a freak!
Getting serious now, no cheat meals for at least 4 weeks. We're going to run a 5k then and I'd like to come in under 25 minutes.
Not doing the daily plate for my cals after all, its taking forever to enter these things so I'll probably just do it all myself on an Excel spreadsheet.
