It looks like my whole department at work is sharing a cold, including me...and I feel pretty lousy. I am not sure if it's related, but my weight is up a couple of pounds, even though I thought I was doing pretty well this week diet-wise.

I just got back from doing legs, earlier today I did a twenty something minuet run in the Cape Fear Botanicle Gardens and the rough construction terrain made it difficult but I got a sweat. I just got doing 10 minuet run on treadmil, squats, straight leg dead lifts, and more in between each set I did something like jump rope for 30 seconds, jump and jacks for like 14-20 reps and so on. Then ended with abs I did a hundred on the bosu ball every ten reps I changed the form.. whew I walked out soaked and the guys lookin at me like dang she is serious JUST WHAT I WANT. I also worked out so hard because today was a day I missed my man so dredfully I cant wait till this Haiti mission is over I know its selfish but all the others are comming back why cant april 2nd be here already....?

Woke up at 4:45 this morning. Too early, gahhh. Did a fantastic bi/tri workout. My tris are so sore right now. Definitely doing something right! The diet thing is the worst. Tuna for breakfast and stop eating after 6pm...off to sleep. Another early workout before work.

Substitute for sugar free stuff! I usually go for gum (trident watermelon!) or sugar free candies Jolly ranchers, life savers, and wethers...still gota watch how many you eat, but it does the job w/ urges. May cause some gas as they contain sugar alcohols =( but your GI gets used to it =)

DietsInReview.com senior editor Brandi Koskie was featured on NPR's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" to speak about the Air Diet. Learn More
There are fad diets and then there are fad diets, but perhaps the Air Diet, a French-created weight loss plan, may trump over all crazy and insane ways to get thin.
Just like its name suggests, the Air Diet is a weight loss plan where you consume, you guessed it - Nothing!
The diet has been made popular by a Dolce & Gabbana campaign, which featured Madonna and other celebrities holding food up to their mouths, but not eating it.
Referred to as "L'Air Fooding" and touted in the French magazine Grazia as the "it diet," The Air Diet has simply one rule: Eat nothing, save for the water and salt soup concoction.
Simply hold up a forkful of linguine or spoonful of ice cream to your mouth, maybe take in a few of the food's tantalizing aromas and pretend to eat it.
Whether the idea is to trick your dinner guest or your mind that you are eating is the name of the game, all for the purpose of dropping a few pounds.
You can look forward to losing four dress sizes before summer.

Good Morning everyone.
I'm down 1lb this morning. Not the number i was hoping for at this point but i'll take it. My body is really starting look better. My arms have got some great definition and I can tell i've got more muscle than i had last year because my triceps are looking better than they've ever looked. The definition in my arms all around is awesome. I put on a new long sleeved shirt i purchased over the weekend which is a thin cotton and fitted to my arms and WOW. You can really see my muscle bulges. Love it. :D
I'm already putting together my grocery list for my maintenance weeks. I was going to go back to keto but i think i'm going to do the balanced 40/40/20 for those weeks.
Re-feed tonight and tomorrow. I'm going out for a family's b-day dinner tomorrow night and it's at a chinese restaurant with ginger beef. I LOOOOOVE ginger beef. I need to make sure i don't over do it because it will be easy to do with an all you can eat buffet.
Diet's been on the spot all week and so has my training. I've got shoulders, calves, and abs, followed by cardio tonight. Then i'm going to finish it off with a tan. I like having skin that's all the same color. My natural white and blotchy red skin isn't very attractive. lol.
Just finished downloading the documentary Fat Head and i can't wait to watch it this weekend. It looks like a good one.
I'm happy to see everyone's progressing during this contest. I like that some people on here keep everyone accountable for their little miss-haps. When you're in the moment of making a decision, make the right one and move on. The more often you do that the less you'll think about making the wrong decisions.

On a side note. Deload/rest/vacation week almost finished. Starting back up tomorrow back home at the NYSC and can't wait. I was taking working out for granted till I ended up down here in FL with only a crappy hotel gym. Damn near salivating just thinkng about grttin back into a real gym with power racks, deadlifts platforms and a bball court/swimming pool. Just what I needed to come back more motivated. Best part of all was getting away to a relaxing place with no drama and clearing my head.

Just had my weekly weigh in for my office biggest loser contest.
Down another 3.6 lbs from last week, crushing the competition!
Here is some food for thought. The other person that WAS close to me percentage wise went nuts this past week. He consumed only 1000 cals a day, worked out every day both lifting and cardio.
Guess what he gained 2 lbs!
I ate 1800-2200 cals a day and worked out less. Told him he needs to eat more at least 2x as much.
Last night was a good refeed night too, had about 1000 cals for dinner, 2 slices of pizza and a huge helping of chicken cesar salad yummy.

I found a great workout tracker iphone app called GymGoal. I'm still getting used to it. It makes awesome workout reports! Here's mine from yesterday (all I did was email the history to myself, take a screenshot, and host it):

This morning I finally got to see the results of my MRI...
My left ACL is completely torn, and the meniscus is probably messed up too.
Going to be having surgery on it May 24th.
Hopefully it doesn't interfere with my weightloss/goals all that much, but my final pics may have crutches in them lol...
I'm down about 9lbs since the start of the contest (11lbs since my progress photos), and I've lost a lot of inches, most noteably over 2 inches off two different parts of my stomach, and almost 2" off of my hips/ass.

goodness...what a week....terrible week to start a diet lets just leave it at that.
What are some good ways to deal with friends wanting to go out? To be honest when I want to lose weight I dont want to do anything when it comes to social events but that tends to send the wrong signals to the wrong people and I will come off as "rude". My girlfriend however pressures me to go out and well...St. Patrick was not nice to me. Now I figure I have to spend about a week working off what I ate.
I have been sticking to my workouts but damn all my previous weeks of dieting just seem wasted and im kinda pissed at my self for not sticking to my guns about going out.

My girlfriend however pressures me to go out and well...St. Patrick was not nice to me. Now I figure I have to spend about a week working off what I ate.
I have been sticking to my workouts but damn all my previous weeks of dieting just seem wasted and im kinda pissed at my self for not sticking to my guns about going out.
thats a tough call on going out with friends. myself, i had to cut it off a bit cause i didnt want to drink or pigout when i went out or hung out. i did tell my friends first that i needed to get to a certain point then i would. part of it is cause im weak and if u put things around me i should be eating/drinking i have a hard time saying no. also, my girl, whos sorta my girl atm, understands. at first she didnt take me serious but as i starting losing the lbs she saw it and tried her best at times to support me.
when i get to certain small goals i will go "hang out." I had the same issues, my weekends i was giving all my losses back so felt i was running in place.
i dont know, limit to 1 night per month for now?

I understand what you mean but at the same time, dieting shouldn't ruin your social life either. You should be able to make healthy choices and control yourself and if you cant yet, that should be something you could work towards because ultimately life will always be there.
For instance, I have a birthday to attend this evening. Ive already planned to have a glass of wine but thats it. Ill eat before, and Im driving, so its pretty much a done deal. I still plan to have FUN though!!!! :D

Go and have fun, just eat/drink things in moderation. I went to a wedding last weekend and had 2 glasses of wine and passed on the cake. I had one beer for St. Pattys and corned beef with friends/fam.

You can still go out without drinking or eating bad food. Just make good decisions even if it means you have to bring something to eat.

i have a question and anyone else who wants to answer, please do.
When you input your training and state that you're using DB, are you stating the weight for each DB or for both DBs put together?

If you need to hit some big numbers, I find that two days after re-feed meal Im at my lightest.
goodness...what a week....terrible week to start a diet lets just leave it at that.
Become the DD :)
what has been said before, just do it in moderation.. if you know you are going to cheat then why not make that night a cheat meal. |Therefore you wont feel as bad when/if you do break it, However, don't over due it.

Happy happy day yesterday!
I tried on my Cryptopsy shirt that hasn't fit since I got pregnant. (Two years ago anyone?!)
AND IT FIT AND I WORE IT ALL DAY AND IT WAS AMAZING!
Hahaha, sorry for the yelling just sooo happy about it.
Had a great workout today. Chin ups were a little easier this time around. Maybe I have to increase the weight?
Taking the weekend and gonna hang out with the kiddo and walk the dog. Back to the gym on monday morning!
Have a great weekend all!

Each individual dumbbell.
Usually when talking barbells, you state it as one total weight (ie. 135lbs) but with dumbbells it is the weight of one dumbbell.

I'm down about 9lbs since the start of the contest (11lbs since my progress photos), and I've lost a lot of inches, most noteably over 2 inches off two different parts of my stomach, and almost 2" off of my hips/ass.
damn good luck bro. I've had two knee sugeries back to back in two years (jan 08 and mar 09) for both knees; it really set me back. Wishing you the best.

Then i'm going to finish it off with a tan. I like having skin that's all the same color. My natural white and blotchy red skin isn't very attractive. lol.
Hello everyone :)
I cannot seem to break 235... hope it is not another plateau, I hate plateaus:mad:
Way to go! Very proud of you!
A one hit reply to all the above.
Like Carl, my weight has been at a stand still until I reduced my intake recently, finally after a few days my weight is on the move again, (whew!) so I have a feeling I am past the plateau. Hang in there Carl. I know its frustrating, and you have been thru this before so you are seasoned with patience when it comes to plateaus. Maybe switch things up and just PUSH thru it.
Even though my weight was stagnant, my clothes are fitting different and one pair of exercise pants I wore in particular, stayed up in front but wouldnt stay up like they used to around my waist on my backside because I had either more fat or something to hold them in place previously, but now they slide down past my butt crack (sorry for the graphic nature) but it happens to be where the change was made, LOL.
All week I have felt lighter (even losing a few inches/pounds at my weight is HUGELY noticed by my body) and have had this very strange feeling around my legs, tummy and waist...a feeling like a sinking in or a caving in feeling- I cant explain it...does anyone who has lost weight know what I mean? Is this normal or is there something wrong with me? So I look in the mirror thinking I must look skinnier but Im not, lol. (I am doing 2 week update pix today to post).
So with all of that said, I'm going to start doing things like TANNING as kudosjen mentioned, things I would be treating myself to if I was skinny. So when I have reached my goal, I will have a nice color skin already oh and a few yrs ago I had long thick naturally curly hair almost to my hips, so I have been workin on growing that back too, (not quite so long- Im 38 now not a kid, lol) so it will be all pretty again for my new body when I get there.
My diet is in check today and I have been wanting to go walk at my park, so I may do that instead of the gym today.
....and hello blsmith, how are you doing today? Better than yesterday, right? Just say yes. Think positive and shove your way thru to succeed.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE WEIGHT LOSS REPORTED TODAY! WHAT A FEELING TO BE ABLE TO FIT INTO OLD CLOTHES, I CANT WAIT FOR THAT TO HAPPEN FOR ME TOO!!

Not last night but the night before
24 robbers came knocking at my door,
as I ran out, they ran in,
they knocked me on the head with a rolling pin
I asked them what they wanted
and this is what they said
Chinese dancers do the splits,
Chinese dancers do the kicks,
Chinese dances turn around,
Chinese dancers touch the ground,
Chinese dancers get out of town!

you can manage w/o cardio but your diet has to be spot on. However, I'd look into swimming or something w/ very low impact.

Wow. Strong cut.
I'm doing a last week binge before I start my strict diet.
I have already lost a few pounds just by not excessively eating.
Strength is getting back to normal (closer to anyway) and I'm not feeling as exhausted.
My split is changing from 5 days a week->4 days a week which I like.
Cardio and HIIT is also picked up.

Been a tough week! Been workin out but cardio has been very limited due to my reoccurring knee injury:( Been icing it like crazy but fluid is just makin it so uncomfortable! Other than Fish Oil, does anyone know any other natural anti-inflammatory pills? This is killing me. Im so thankful to finally get this motivation from you guys and this contest and have just been discouraged by this injury! Hope everyones killin it out there, hope I get my ass together to join you all real soon. Goodluck!
I use Knox Joint Gelatin. Its a powder that comes in a can in the puddining isle, with an orange lid for about 8 dollars a can and I just add it to my morning protein shakes.

rough day today... a lot going on at work, had to pick my pregnant wife up at work because she was not feeling well at lunch, battery died when I dropped her off at, went back to work in our other car, came home and changed the battery w/new one. Luckily, the battery was under warranty from Walmart for 3 yrs and I got it free. Can't wait for the gym tonight. It's back day.

Don't beat yourself up! Today is a new day, right?
You don't have to give up your diet if you go out! Just plan ahead. Find out where you're going to go and do a little research. Almost every restaurant has a menu online now, and many also include nutrition info (not perfect in a sit down restaurant, but at least approx.). Or, just stick to the things you know are safe such as salad greens (croutons, bacon bits, cheese, and dressing is where the calories come in!) and grilled chicken breast, fish, or shrimp. Also, don't be afraid to ask how an item is cooked. You can then ask to have it modified to fit your diet plan. If you go out armed with info, you'll be less likely to get off your plan. As an aside, I have found that if you show that you really enjoy what you are eating/drinking (no matter how plain), nobody will question you for being "different".

Happy happy day yesterday!
I tried on my Cryptopsy shirt that hasn't fit since I got pregnant. (Two years ago anyone?!)
AND IT FIT AND I WORE IT ALL DAY AND IT WAS AMAZING!
WOOT! Congrats. :D
I have felt lighter (even losing a few inches/pounds at my weight is HUGELY noticed by my body) and have had this very strange feeling around my legs, tummy and waist...a feeling like a sinking in or a caving in feeling- I cant explain it...does anyone who has lost weight know what I mean? Is this normal or is there something wrong with me? So I look in the mirror thinking I must look skinnier but Im not, lol.
I know what you mean. The fat is "looser", I think. I've been putting on muscle (more compact tissue than fat) and losing fat. My weight has been coming off really slowly in the last 6 weeks or so, but I'm still losing inches.
So with all of that said, I'm going to start doing things like TANNING as kudosjen mentioned, things I would be treating myself to if I was skinny.
That sounds like a good idea. I think I'll do the same!

The 6 year old beats the 11 year old more often than not because she uses the "between the legs" technique while the older one is trying to learn the one armed "grown up" way!

I went to the store and picked up some tomatoes and pumpernickel bread. My mama requested chocolate covered graham cracker cookies, which happens to be one of my fav cookies, but everyone in the house had some, except me, yay! I kept out of them and told them I was "watching my figure." lol. My mama says, "I will help you watch it." LOL
I have yet another headache, so I am out for the count. Wake up to a brand new outlook everyone and keep your focus clear.
Another day finished for us!

Well I weighed in at 229lbs This morning. I am down 5 pouns so far this week. Tonight and all day Saturday is my carb-up and then on Sunday back to the CKD routine. I will do a 60 mintue cardio session on Sunday night to wipe out the unstored carbs and hit the weights real real real hard on Monday.
Congrats to everyone this week for sticking it thru another week!

Man, I am so behind in the times! I listened to my first ever podcast today.
Was a nice change of pace from listening to music during cardio! It felt like it went by a lot quicker than usual. :D
Anyone else listen to podcasts/audiobooks/etc while working out? Got any good ones to share?

i have a question and anyone else who wants to answer, please do.
When you input your training and state that you're using DB, are you stating the weight for each DB or for both DBs put together?
it depends on what Im putting in. If its arms, I put in for each DB. For legs I put total DB weight.
Ughhh it costs minimum 75$ or more here in calgary, canada , for a decent pre workout, so itss way cheaper to buy online from here but i swear my order of jack3d has beeen sitting at customs for a week and a half )=
Try this site. Not sure if you ahve heard of it or not, seems to be good!

Dude, ive been waiting just as long for my jack3d :) ****ing canadian retailer changing 45-55 is bull****.
anyways workout was great got increased reps on all arms sets + cardio was easy so im bumping up the speed next week.
Same here. Check out this site and let me know what you think.. Im not sure if they have everything you are looking for, but give it a look.

I'm down 8lbs since starting, through diet and relaxed exorcise. I'm really turning it on next month, starting the Mitotropin meal/training program with DCP, Sesamin, and IntrAbolic. Then in May, I'm actually starting Mitotropin complete with the meal and training program with Xtend for intra-workout (used this last year to cut 40lbs and maintain my strength while getting cut).

I weighed in at 183 today! It's been almost a year since I've seen that number but I know I look better now because I'm stronger than ever. Very happy. The weight has been pretty slow coming off (11 lbs in 6 weeks) but I'll take it. It always takes me forever to lose weight. Slow and steady wins the race?
Hope everyone else is seeing progress! If not, stick with it, it'll come!!!

I lift in a class at school, and yesterday I got out these things and I want to know if anyone knows what they are called and where I can buy them... description:
that flat rope similar to the ones you use to tie things onto cars (my dad uses them for his kayak) theres a carabeaner and the rope has the metal rings so you can loop it around and hang it from pretty much anything, then the rope is adjustable and at the bottom is the handle like this but a shaped a little different:

Everyone is doing so great in their transformations! I on the other hand some how managed to gain 4 pounds and then drop them, only to remain at the 166 I was before the contest. I weighed today and looks like I dropped an ounce or two but I don't ever count that. I will be changing up my diet tomorrow and try for a bigger deff. I have my workouts on point and thought my diet was too. My sister will be coming to visit within the next day or so, I will have her help measure my body and see if their are any unknown changes that I can be proud of.

Did not make it to the gym today, not good at all! Sucks:mad:
Hopefully I can make it up this weekend, have to brake thru that 235 plateau:mad:
You'll brake through that plateau, and soon we'll see a big post telling us you have. :D
The same thing happened to me yesterday. I couldn't make it to the gym. I left work the same time i should have been walking out of the gym. I'm going to go tomorrow to make up for it.
Congrats on your 5lb loss.
I wanted to thank everyone who answered my question about the DBs. I must have got an F on how to enter training routines. ;)

It's not always about concentrating on the numbers, sometimes it helps to just look past measurements/weight and concentrate on how you feel. If you feel good, and you are doing everything right, than the results will follow.

Same here. I'm at my lowest ever, just under 150. I havn't weighed below 150 since I was a little kid. I can't stop going to the bathroom with no shirt just to stare in the mirror. lol
Im just a lb away from being the lightest I've been in 5 years...I love it! Only two weeks in and Im already this light, by the end Im gonna end up being lighter then I was in in 6th grade!!

I'm a big sci-fi geek girl so I listen to sci shorts that run just about 32-35 minutes....some days it's a perfect break from music. Mostly though, I just keep the playlist updated.
lol! Right now I've downloaded heaps of psychology, fitness, parenting, and motivational stuff. I'd love to download a few standup comedy routines but I'm afraid of looking like a dork giggling to myself on the treadmill. :P
I need to go through my playlist and organize it a bit better. Part of the reason I tried podcasts out is because I have sooo many songs and they're not organized in any particular way, so I end up with a whole bunch of songs that I love but aren't so great to work out to (and some that I don't love anymore but don't have the heart to delete).
That's awesome! Honestly, screw the numbers if they're not budging... if you're feeling stronger and looking better than that's what counts!
Finally made it below 150 this morning... 2 more pounds and I'll reach my lowest weight in the past .... 3-4 years? I hit 148 last spring in May/June 2009. Exciting :)
Congrats!!!!! :D

Here is a lil update for everyone. I started at 356, now I am 339!
My first goal was to lose 15 so I could determine if this diet was going to stick or not and it did and still is! I have met my second goal, to reach 339.
Now my next goal is 332, I chose that number because when I went to Georgia last year, I was 332. I like making short term goals, as they seem like easier and reasonable goals to reach for me.

Was a nice change of pace from listening to music during cardio! It felt like it went by a lot quicker than usual. :D
Anyone else listen to podcasts/audiobooks/etc while working out? Got any good ones to share?
I do audio books in the car all the time. I hate the radio... never seems to play what I like. The books are fabulous even on short jaunts around town. We are putting a stereo system in the garage/gym we are creating so I can continue to listen in there. I agree, sometimes it just makes time go faster. It's not broken into 3-5 minutes songs :)
I like Harlan Coben as an author. What have you been listening to?

I posted before and after pix (2 week updates) on this thread yesterday. Was I suppose to do that in my own thread instead? If so, my bad...
Its the weekend, so I had to decide if today or tomorrow was a cheat day for me. Then family asked me to go to OUTBACK. So that made the decision for me. I had three food items, only ONE was the cheat, which was 1/2 of my daughters grilled chicken sandwich, minus the last bite, lol, and minus the bacon. Instead of water with my meal I had unsweetened ice tea.
Im doing good. I will update and check on y'all again soon.

Anyone else listen to podcasts/audiobooks/etc while working out? Got any good ones to share?
I have a electronica/dance/trace music playlist I listen to during cardio. High tempo stuff, great for moving fast. For lifting I have a hardcore/metalcore/punk playlist. Angry, brutal, motivational music.
At work I listen to podcasts. Mostly tech and Skeptical/Freethought topics. Here's a sample:
The Skeptic's Guide To The Universe (http://www.theskepticsguide.org/)
Skeptoid (http://skeptoid.com/)
For Good Reason (http://www.forgoodreason.org/)
Point of Inquiry (http://www.pointofinquiry.org/)
Skepticality (http://www.skepticality.com/)
American Freethought (http://www.americanfreethought.com/)
This Week In Tech (http://www.twit.tv)
This Week In Startups (http://thisweekinstartups.com/)
Of course those might not interest you but there are so many different podcasts available there's something for everyone.

I just thought it wierd that I jumped up and then back down. I do the same routine everyday (well almost everyday). Wake up, stretch, eat ASAP, gym (eat ASAP after), work.... eat my meals for the rest of the day and drink a gallon or more of water. I have done the math... My maint is 2200 cal and a def would be about 700 cal. I'm cycling it three days low one day high(main2200) to be sure that my body dosnt realize im dieting. Everything seems in check. I seem to get real fatiged at work early afternoon. Not sure why. But other than that... I feel good. I'm sure I will see results... Like I said... I just thought it odd.

Finally I am getting time to post. Just kept a little weekly log.
I do not get to post daily but I try to read the post daily. Don’t like to post @ work…
Monday - no gym, just a lot of yard work!
Tuesday & Wednesday 20min of treadmill then hit the weights.
Thursday not good, no gym. But got to change oil in my truck (in Texas Ya’ll).
Friday- 20min of treadmill then hit the weights.
Saturday 15min of cardio light weights.
Diet has been pretty good. Sticking to my Herbalife (yea yea I know) But it has been working for me and my wife. I am down to about 90lbs in 1 year. On April, 21-09 we made the decision to get our selves back in shape. It is hard to keep up with 2 grandsons that run in different directions!.
Hey cawiau Congrats on your 100lb mark! I I’ll be there soon. Sweets is my problem also. I don’t have a sweet tooth. I have all sweet teeth, I can feel your pain!! Just got back from the Houston Rodeo and all the great carnival food Turkey Legs, and almost every thing fried smelled great!! But not having any is the best!!! In the past I did enough! Yea gad a few cold ones but I will work them out during the week..
Good Luck to “All” !!! And we “All” keep up the good work!

I used to dread DOMS. Now I love it! :) Legs are getting sore today, had a great leg workout yesterday.
Whats great about this board is the amount of information you can get regarding nutrition, exercise and fat loss. I have learned an incredible amount about the proper way to do things in the past month.
Now its really motiviating to me to see what I can accomplish by doing things the RIGHT way.

Today I'm planning to walk 8 miles to the next town and pick up my car (a friend was working on it for me). I'm calling it a LISS session :p

I do audio books in the car all the time. I hate the radio... never seems to play what I like. The books are fabulous even on short jaunts around town. We are putting a stereo system in the garage/gym we are creating so I can continue to listen in there. I agree, sometimes it just makes time go faster. It's not broken into 3-5 minutes songs :)
I like Harlan Coben as an author. What have you been listening to?
Right now mostly psychology and motivational stuff.
I've never heard of Harlan Coben before, just googled and his books look like stuff I'd be interested in. :D

Just finished Tri Phase Training's 12 week program, so i was planning to take a week off.
But yesterday i got inked up and tomorrow I have a second session to finish this piece I've been working on since August.
I would be back in the gym next week, but for some reason, when i get tattoos and try to work out too fast, my skin gets all irritated, red and bumpy around the tattoo, and it ends up taking longer to heal.

Its likely your sweat thats causing your tattoo to get irritated, I don't know if there is anything you can do about it beyond lotioning it up right before workout and making sure to shower right after workout.

Really? I heard sort of the opposite...that 5x5's are good for strength, but won't increase your size like volume workouts will. I've always heard you should lift heavy while cutting to preserve muscle. Anyway, it's too soon to tell long term, but in the last month I've been losing weight and increasing strength, so I like the program so far...but I am coming off a long layoff, so probably I'd be seeing results with any kind of program at least for a while.

My sister has p90x and since she lives with me I have seen her do it and I recommend that for you. p90x rox! My sister purchased hers VERY cheap via ebay. Also do a search on Craigslist.
If I do p90x I will need to stick with it, its been a problem before..... I am strongly leaning towards this so by the end of it I can gain the confidence to actually workout in the gym.
Out of those, I would recommend starting strength. I think you'll look back on it in a year or two and be really glad that is where you started. The others are basically conditioning programs, I own p90x and do it with my wife sometimes, but you certainly aren't going to build any significant muscle with it. It is hard, and better than any video program I've ever seen, but if you are already doing cardio and have your diet somewhat figured out, I think an actual weight lifting program like Starting Strength would be by far your best option.
I just picked up the book from the library, and its quite a bit of material to read. Thank you for taking the time to reply! I definately think once I get through it I will try to use the program.
I haven't tried any of those, so I can't really comment other than I have heard great things about Rippetoe's and p90x, don't know too much about the other two.
Here are some more ideas to throw into the mix:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/best_newbie_workout.htm
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/beast30.htm
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843
Interesting reads Jenny, I appreciated the articles very much! Seem like solid programs here.

Starting Strength is a great program
I'd have to look back through my manual but 5/3/1 seems like it would be a great option for you too, I'm running it now and its awesome. 5/3/1 would be better suited for loosing lbs and transforming imo
Another one for SS, seems like I need to read a whole lot faster. Let me know what the results are for the program for you, and I will read up on the 5/3/1 your talking about. Thanks for the reply.
I think the best thing for you would be a whole body workout that you could do 3x a week. Focus on basic compound movements (bench press, squats, deadlift) and work on perfecting your form. Or you could do a push/pull split 4x a week if you like too. Just two quick ideas....
Actually a friend of mine was talking to me about a push/pull split as well, any references for programs? Thanks for the advice.
x3
I hear a lot of recommendations for starting strength, but its made for total lifting noobs who are basically bulking up... If that sounds like you, then go for it.
If you're aiming to gain some strength but not put on much weight (cut/recomp), I'd suggest finding a simple full body routine that uses compound lifts that you can do 3-4 days a week. I think the starting strength routine would probably cover that though... but it requires lots of food/recovery...
Having never done it, that's just my opinions....
Thanks for your opinion, any suggestion for a simple full body routine? Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I somewhat agree, but if he is really at the level he described, which would be a complete novice, he should be able to take advantage of the initial adaptation to training stimulus (aka noob gainz). If he hasn't weight trained at all, he should be able to still increase strength in a linear fashion up to a certain point, while losing fat.
Now, would he gain strength at a much faster weight if he was all out bulking, of course.
Yea, but even doing a full body routine as opposed to starting strength he'd probably make wicked noob gains.. no matter what he does he will likely get stronger lol (which is nice... i'm sad my noob gains are gone :( ). I may be wrong, but with noob gains you may be better off with a higher frequency of training than 3 days a week with more exercises than the starting strength program tells you to do (if you're trying to cut/recomp and not bulk)? Like Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Shoulder Press, Bentover Rows, Pullups/downs, accessory leg work, some arms if you feel the need... do you understand what I mean? I may not have made sense how I wanted to.
Interesting, I am definately see what your saying.
Starting Strength isn't just for noobs, I used it recently during my bulk and had great strength gains.
Lower volume is better for a new lifter
Great to know!
I would recommend a starting strength program, having tried Riptoes for awhile and Max-OT i prefer Max-OT.
Better recovery, more excises, Ive also had more strength increase on Max-OT.
a side note because Max-OT is 5 times a day vs 3 for RIptoes, you will burn more calories :)
I just ordered Max-OT from my college library should take them a while to get it, and since I am starting my strength training Monday I may use it in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
I guess one of my main issues is the confidence to actually strength train in the gym. Guess its something I will need to work on.

Just made an excellent cutting meal.
I used 96/4 Lean ground Beef (1 lb) = 640 Cals
1/2 Box of Whole Wheat Pasta = 600 Cals
1/3 Of the Ragu Sauce = 240 cals
3/4 Cup Shredded Cheese 2% = 240 Cals
1720 Cals
Divide by 4 and 430 Cals a serving.
My plate was actually closer to 1/5 of the pan.
Filled me up and tasted so good. Great cutting meal. Around 30 grams of Protein, legit good carbs, not too much sugar, cept the Ragu sauce.
I didnt use any Olive Oil, just Pam cooking spray.
May've used a tad too much pasta/pasta sauce though. I'd suggets using a little less pasta to cut down on carbs and a little less pasta sauce. Still really tasty and fairly cheap. The 96/4 beef was like $3.50 lb at wal mart! I had been paying $5/lb for 92/8 at Kroger! Never knew walmart had it so cheap!

hello i am checking in. my diet has been hard to stick with. when i am visiting with my mama she helps me keep more control of my goals but its still hard. a few weeks ago i left a bag of easter candy at mamas house and i forgot about it. she hid it from herself and me. but i was scrounging through everything looking for chocolate one night this week and she gave me 2 small pieces of candy to help. but thats all i had. mama bought me some protein bars and some sweet n salty bars too. they were actually pretty good. i have been at the gym a lot and i have muscles in my arms now. it feels good to have some. i have jiggly underarms and i hate it. my bf has been going with me. he gets on the treadmill and runs for an hour. there is no way i can run that long and i thought i was in better shape than he is. but he is active with basketball and i am not active at all except at work and the gym. but he helps me keep going and tells me i look good. maybe i should go play basketball with h im. its good exercise. and he plays for hours. yesterday was mamas cheat day so we went to the outback. we split a chicken sandwhich. that was our cheat. the rest was veggies and a potato which is not a cheat for her. so she did good and so did i. i go back to work tomorrow night so i wont be able to update again until my next days off. good luck everyone.

FYI-
I messed up! Week # 2 ends tonight at midnight, not last night. Contestants have until midnight to post in Week # 2. All previous posts by me, concerning this, have been deleted and/or updated.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Week # 3 Starts at midnight!
Glad I jumped on and checked. I know I have posted once here since the 13th....so I want to make sure I don't get DQed for not posting enough.
Anywho...
I did great the first week. However, on the 13th my Dad passed away suddenly at the young age of 54. He had a heart attack, no warnings. We have been dealing with arrangements and visitors all week. Needless to say, no workouts and the diet was out the window. I didn't completely pig out either.
I'm not trying to bring you folks down or garner sympathy...I just want to remind everyone that your health is important and showing the loved ones in your life that you care should be done sooner rather the later.
I wish you well this week and I'm back to the routine tomorrow.

Legit meal! I'll make this (not exactly, but similar) and split it into 6 portions and it serves as lunch for most days of the week :) Super easy to tuberware and just grab when needed.
My diet has been on point after a little slip up last week. Haha I had my wisdom teeth taken out and apparently went through a whole tub of vanilla ice cream!! I have no recollection of this due to the pain killers but ah well.
Been a bit lazy with my online log as I have a tendency to spent way to much time browsing the forums so I've just been keeping my notebook log for now. Hopefully I'll update sometime in next week, pics/weight/bf% updates included.

to me, tobassco taste horrendous. its not spicy at all and it is more vinegar tasting then anything.

to say that it is strictly for chinese food is ignorant! :D
you properly dont like it with your pasta but i find it goes well with any type of food...be it hot dogs, curries, risotto, fried rice, sushi
but i do encourage people to try this hot sauce out, especially while on a caloric deficient diet. makes a world of difference and keeps you sane

I'm following Bill Starr's 5x5 program, and I find it interesting that I can squat 3x per week without my legs getting sore...and I'm definitely seeing results.
Today I'm planning to walk 8 miles to the next town and pick up my car (a friend was working on it for me). I'm calling it a LISS session :p
I had some of my best results with the 5x5 program and loved it!

Agreed man!! That hot sauce you can put on just about anything to give it a little flavor, especially Brown Rice and if you're having a cheat meal cheese pizza.

hello i am checking in. my diet has been hard to stick with. when i am visiting with my mama she helps me keep more control of my goals but its still hard. a few weeks ago i left a bag of easter candy at mamas house and i forgot about it. she hid it from herself and me. but i was scrounging through everything looking for chocolate one night this week and she gave me 2 small pieces of candy to help. but thats all i had. mama bought me some protein bars and some sweet n salty bars too.
Years ago, i cut chocolate out of my life for awhile and had Granola bars as a treat for doing well with my workout, months later I didnt want chocolate and when i did (after 4 months i puked..) try to get useful addicted to something better, but small pieces are good too :)

Not to sidetrack anyone but it took me a minute to find which thread I should be posting in but I'm pretty sure this is right one. I've been trying to shed some bodyfat and things have been going pretty good. Hit the beach yesterday here in Florida... it was Sunny and 78 out! :D :D :D

So i was just looking at the pix of hot sauce, and i need to know if it's just me. I love hot food and was trying to build my tolerance up to keep up with my new co-workers....however, while my mouth and stomach can tolerate it, my ass can't!
Does the ass ever build a tolerance? I gave up on eating spicy b/c i couldn't handle it anymore. hahah sorry tmi.
