Hey everyone! How y'all doing?
Yesterday I had a little set back. Emotions were running high from work stress and instead of having a proper last meal, I ate emotionally and had chips and salsa. Could have been worse I suppose. I really need to learn to turn stress into a positive thing and not let it win me over by making me make bad decisions.

I just tried Controlled Labs Lemonade Purple Wraath last night and it's probably one of the best lemonade flavored supplements that I've tried. It tastes WAY better then the grape. I highly recommend it along with Purple Intrain.
just got my bb order in today and i got a free sample of the purple wraath lemonade cant wait to try it

I tried Syntrax Nectar Roadside Lemonade and I must say I was disappointed... I love lemonade flavored things, but it was just too... whey-like lol. However those silly gimmic Slim Quick drink mixes... the lemonade flavor is awwwweeeeeeessssssssoooooommmmmeeeee
Fuzzy navel is amazing for the Nectar flavors. Taste just like orange juice without any whey taste. I haven't tried the others yet but have two other flavor samples. I heard roadside wasn't the best so skipped that one.

Alright, time to chime in. I've fallen off the band wagon big time this week. I literally put on 4/5lb. I ate so much with my relatives that were visiting. I swear this is the last time!! It made me so disgusted with myself. I'm not going to lose focus. I am going to make it up and make some real progress.
EDIT: I ate the best cake all day everyday. That's what I mean.

Looks funny but tastes pretty good. Especially compared to the grape (which I didn't mind either but some people don't like). You just have to convince your brain it is pink lemonade or something or the purplish color doesn't jibe with the lemonade flavor, lol.

I'll keep that one in mind. I'm trying to get through a tub of the Nectar Lemon Tea right now... it was good at the start but now it kinda turns my stomach. When I go get my next tub I'll check out the fuzzy navel but I'm thinking I'm gonna get a peanut butter or a mocha flavor next!
They have sprite zero?????? I had no idea....lol... you can tell how often I go out.
I kinda doubt any bars/pubs have it... But the grocery store sure does lol

purple wrath is pretty gross imo...kinda taste like 'smarties' candy mashed up in water. I liked their green magnitude though.

I'm kinda picky too. I got some controlled labs samples a while back (purple wraath, purple intrain, green magnitude, white flood, and.... something else thats totally slipping my mind atm...) and i didn't like the taste of any of them... EXCEPT Green MAG... that **** was delicious!!! I wish it was a pre-workout product instead of a creatine one cause I'd be all over that.

I haven't seen those anywhere convenient. I crave lemonade flavors in spring and summer. :D Oh, and I know these are terrible, so I dont get them often, but the crystal light immunity powder tastes so good!

That's not so bad. You could have added a couple of margaritas and an enchilada with white rice. That....would have been bad.
Look at it this way. Salsa is a veggie, and corn chips are a grain! Yeah, that's the ticket! You'll be fine today. Let it go and move on. (from the queen of still learning to let go...haha)

Props to the 100 pound loss above here ^^. Impressive.
Been slacking on the log and my internet activity has gone waaaay down the last week which is a problem for being an active active poster. Should be alrite.
Working out 3 days a week atm.
Split is generally as follows:
Bi's/Back-
Tricepts-chest,abs
Legs,Shoulders
Eating 5-6 meals a day with a 40-40-20 split in mind, its not on the button but good intentions are here. I'm feeling pretty solid and defiently looking a little better physically. Happy to be part of the contest as it is in the back of my mind often.
Btw, what kind of car did you get kingjameskjf- I am also curious!

I'm pretty full up on protein powder for now, but does anyone have some super delicious suggestions for protein powder when I need to buy more? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

I like all of the CL flavours but the raspberry! lol. I just couldn't really get into it.
I love love love the lemonade, it's awesome. I've only ever had the apple once, but I remember liking it (was a free sample). The grape PW was.. very odd.. like, the first time I had it, I was not really impressed.. but the more I drank it, I felt.. addicted to it. Literally had cravings for it. And I finally figured out what the taste reminded me of, after sneaking one of my son's Flintstone vitamins cause I'd run out of my own. :D

Ok so i fogot until you brought up the topic of other flavors that i had a sample of Caribbean Cooler Nectar. Couldn't do it. Taste too much like pineapple for my liking. Just...no. Fuzzy Navel forever for me. :)
I can't do chocolate anymore after tasting the fruit protein shakes...they are 110% less "whey" tasting to me. Too bad i didn't know this 8 years ago when i first started drinking them. :D Oh well

Something seems strange to me about drinking something that tastes like cake batter after a hard workout but if that's the only way you can drink the stuff then it's a good thing it's available. -Just don't blend in any frosting or you're totally missing the point.

I've been slowly cutting since the beginning of the year, so I'm not changing anything up dramatically. I'm aiming for 1,800 calories per day, including 150 grams of protein and 25 grams of fiber.
Today was cardio...I had a nice 30 minute run and my slow, shuffling pace.
1800 calories at your weight is really low. Are you sure you're measuring correctly?
And I'm going to agree with this weighing & condiment advice. Buying a digital kitchen scale is probably one of the best investments I've ever made. I use it for just about everything (besides items that use ml or fl oz). And condiments, as delicious as they are, can be pure evil on a diet lol... I'm a huge sauce fiend, I had to force myself to cut back/stop. No more bathing chicken in plum sauce :(
Use hot sauce instead (not wing sauce, lots of fat). Capsaisin gives your metabolism a little bit of a boost.
I only add pepper to the eggs. No salt. One quick low fat spray so the egg doesn't stick. I forgot to make brocc today so no nice green in the pic!
Why no salt? Salt is important and you need to consume it. PWO is actually a really good time to consume it since you lose salt in your sweat.
I've always told people that the scale doesn't tell the whole story, it's more what you see in the mirror and how you feel. I know for myself that I can fluctuate up to 10lbs in a single day through food intake and water consumption. This is why I prefer to weigh myself only once per week, Saturday mornings at 8am prior to eating or drinking anything, it prevents me from focusing on any one single day.
What if Saturday morning happens to be the day it swings a lot? You'd only know if you checked your weight daily. I've been keeping a daily log of my weight for years. It's very obvious when my weight swings from the food I eat and I don't worry about it. It's actually very interesting to see how certain foods or quantities effect my weight.
I threw out 3/4 of a Chocolate Fudge Cake this morning:eek:... chocolate is my favorite and I just can eat sweets morning, lunch, snack, dinner and souper. yes, my dentist made a fortune off me growing up:p
I have a big sweet tooth, I admit it and I love eating sweets. It makes me happy.
But this morning I weight in at 235.4 lbs and no candy, cake, or food in the world ever made me feel as good as I felt this morning.
I'VE LOST 100 LBS Y'ALL:D:D:D
I wanted to wait till Sunday at weight to make sure and just in case I cheat... but damn it I could not hold it in anymore and the heck with cheating. To motivated now to stop
CONGRATS! Amazing progress, keep it up!

Measuring's not the problem, sticking to the goal is :D But yeah, I think that might have been too low for my lifting and cardio together.

My original goal was to recomp and maintain my weight for the first few weeks. Somehow I ended up losing 11 lbs so far and I'm stronger than ever :D
Just to give you an idea of how calories in - calories out is really what's important, here's a sample what I consumed this weekend:
Ribs
More beer than I've had in the previous 3 months (Southern Tier Pale Ale is a new favorite)
Mimosas
Corned beef & cabbage
Bag of jelly beans
Waffle topped with strawberries & whipped cream
Bacon
Chips and dip
I weighed in Friday morning at 165.8 lbs, Saturday at 165 lbs, Sunday at 164.8 lbs, and Monday at 163.8 lbs. Cardio on Friday but nothing else this weekend. This goes to show that if you watch your calories closely you can still be just fine eating junk, not that I recommend it.
My workout on Monday was great and today I hit a PR with dumbbell presses, 90x7.

I make something similar when cutting where I add basically what you did on top of a giant leafy green salad, 1-2 tbsp sour cream, and a liiiittle shredded cheese (both SC and cheese can be low fat), and i will occasionally use a few dabs of hot sauce on there too if i didnt add enough chili powder/crushed red pepper flakes to the beef.. also lately i been using ground turkey om nom nom

I would say that the shots are probably making you tired. In moments of weakness, i.e. tired or not well and probably hungry, we make decisions that aren't the best. Preparing ahead of time is basically my defense for these weak moments. Always have something with you you can eat; fruit, protein powder & shaker, string cheese, etc. Good luck!

For those cutting and in a relationship, is your significant other or spouse supportive? Are they going at it with you? Or they don't care and keep eating junk in front of you?

My spouse is supportive to a degree. But she does eat junk in front of me still and wants to limit the number of days I go to the gym. I have to compromise with her to get an extra day in. But it makes it really tough.

Hubby is supportive, but still eats whatever. He said he was going to follow a modified version of my meal plan but then crapped out when it was easier for him to go back to his old habits.
Doesn't bother me other than it would have been very good for him to get with the program....I'd rather him get healthy, you know? But for me, I'm ok going it alone. Sticking to the plan is about me (here at home i mean), and I'm standing up for myself by staying on it.

I have no significant other but it doesn't bother me a bit when people eat junk food in front of me. This wasn't always the case but i've learned to ignore it, and i've gotten pretty good at it too.
BTW, there's always some sort of junk food in the house but again, doesn't bother me. I've had a chocolate bar in my pantry for 4 weeks. I keep saying i'll eat it but never get around to it. lol

My wife's car just broke down and our tax returns came in at the same time (very convenient!). So I looked around a found a great deal on a 2001 Land Rover Discovery. Never had a Land Rover anything before. It has 175k miles on it  but it was owned by a service mechanic who replaced the engine 10k miles ago and replaced all seals. Can't wait to take this camping in the summer! :D

Yes, it 'tis good stuff. Like most things, it's fine in moderation. The cals/fat grams are killer, though!

I'm in a relationship... but I'm afraid I am going to have to break it off. I love her and I can't see myself without her in my life. But I am afraid this is the end of the road. If I want to lose the weight I am going to have to say goodbye.
So....

Natty. You know I love you. But I just can't control myself when you are around. What we had started out good, bu you are just no good for me anymore. I love the way you look, the way you smell. My lips can't get enough of you. But you are just making me too d@mn fat!

HAHAHA!! LOVE your humor
Did dead-lifts for the first time ever today and did 225lb, I'm quite happy with my self.
I've also started the 100 push ups and 200 sit-up program to improve my over all endurance.

I need help guys! lol
So, I have two gyms I'm interested in, and I can't decide which one I'd rather join!
Gym A:
-very very close
-more expensive, but I found someone selling a 3 month pass (hopefully legit) on kijiji which would bring the cost down to about the same as Gym B
-super fancy facilities
-has a HUGE array of machines, etc PLUS a separate "women only" area that is also HUGE
-has a women only fitness studio + a co-ed fitness studio
-the only pool on site is women only
-very nice child-minding area, there's even a spycam with a tv in each of the cardio areas so you can see how your kid is doing
-while looking on kijiji for coupons/memberships I stumbled across a lady who goes there looking for a workout buddy, she seems very nice and we have a lot in common!
-no kids in the pool, or family swim at any time
Gym B:
-farther away
-better price (only slightly if i buy the 3-month pass, but way better price if I have to pay full for Gym A)
-haven't had a close look at their equipment, but from the outside it looked like they had a much smaller selection (I went in for a tour yesterday, planning to use my "free pass" tomorrow)
-no women only areas
-super family-oriented
-pool is bigger, and co-ed
-one free swim lesson a week for my son
-lots of preschool and family swim times
-I'd be able to take my son to a "parents and tots" group for free, with crafts and activities for him
Basically, if I weren't a mommy I would definitely be going with Gym A. However, Gym B would be benefiting my son more. BUT, I would be working out during the day on weekdays while he is in daycare, and he'd only be coming with me once a week on Saturdays, and possibly the occasional weekday evening if I can't go in the day.
I should also point out that I'm enrolling him in a learn to skate program that will run on Sundays, so I'll already be doing something active/fun/social/etc with him.. he is not neglected! lol
What to do?!

I say unless the difference in cost is extravagant, go for Gym A. Less chance of you getting bored, closer to home so you spend more time with your son AT home.

Good luck!
Thanks, I also think it was the shots because I always get tired after shots for some reason!

Like most of you I am also fairly excited for my weigh in day (Friday morning). But I'm mainly excited for my measurements :D and I have a very important appointment with an orthopedic surgeon about my knee... MRI results... about time... been waiting over a month to find out the results when it was supposed to only be 2 weeks :(
But yea! I don't expect to have lost much (maybe 1lb due to cheating), but I snuck a few random measurements here and there and I've lost a fair bit of tub!! :D

That is fantastic, just remember that if you are doing dead-lifts, DON'T compensate your form for weight or reps!!! It could quite possibly do the most damage if you got an injury. So Great job, but be careful if you are new to them :)

[QUOTE=hyacinth30;464049073]Just curious...why cant you have Natty PB on your diet? Im sure you can fit it into your macros!
Well... My explanation is as follows:
There are a lot of calories packed into one small tablespoon, and if he is like me in any way, just one tablespoon is not going to cut it... So to save myself from the urge to overindulge.... We will have to part ways while cutting!! LOL..
That's why I think. But if you do have self control over your weaknesses... it's just fine to fit in, like any other food in the world. Im sure you can eat the crappiest food ever and fit it into your macros and still lose weight... Just my thoughts...
Im hitting cardio this AM and weights tonight.. after my day of painting! See ya'll later!

At 200 cals per serving, it adds up pretty quick. Right now I'm on a pretty low calorie diet and most of my cals are coming from protein. When I get a taste of peanut butter(same with junk food) I just don't wanna stop. I find it so much easier to diet when you basically eliminate taste. lol

Ah I didn't see this post but yeah this basically.

Hi Jenny.
These are my thoughts on the gym thing. This is a little selfish, but I would go for gym A if the price is right. I'm firm believer that parents should have their own "things to do". By this i mean without children involved. I love my daughter and would give my life for her without a second thought, but i need something for me. My gym time is MINE. There are times when she does need to join me and stay in the daycare but i'm usually there on my own and i like it that way. I don't really have a hobby other than i'm a huge movie buff but that's not something that will help me evolve in any way.
My daughter and i have very active lives and we do a lot of things together (have to, single mom. lol), but i really enjoy that hour or 2 where i can concentrate on me. Not work, house work, family or anything else in life but me and my body.
Just my thoughts. :)

This is exactly what I was thinking.
I walked to the gym for my workout today :D I am sure I'd skip more workouts if I had to drive even 15 minutes.
yep same way... the closer it is, the less excuses I can come up with: traffic, the drive, might be too late, etc.

Thanks for the input on the gym, guys! :)
The distance thing definitely makes sense. The second gym is close, but out of the way. The first gym.. well, I actually have to PASS it driving between home and daycare. So I can't skip or I'll feel guilty, haha.
blsmith: you're right... since I don't get to see him a whole lot during the week (and weekday evenings are mostly: play a bit, dinner, bath, bed.. not a whole lot of time for fun), it'd be better to spend my weekends one-on-one with him as much as possible, rather than taking him to a group thing. I wasn't thinking of it that way.
Jen: Thank you!!! I think I needed to hear that I'm not a bad mom for wanting to go to the first one.. exactly for the reasons you gave.
Woohoo, decision made.

Speaking of gyms. I am sorta in same boat. I am currently going to planet fitness and can now see why some people complain about them. however cheaper the are, they really are lacking in some areas I am looking to get into such as group classes more equipment and even DBs that go past 60s! Wasnt an issue when I first started but I see problems now.

I have one walking distance from my house, while I have to drive 10 minutes to Gold's Gym.
When I first moved, I went to them first since they looked like the obvious choice (open 24 hours during the week, walking distance, etc)
But the moment the guy told me "no squat rack", "no squatting allowed" "no deadlifts" that was it for me. I went out and went straight to the Gold's Gym.
Price wise, they were about the same 2 years ago, but yeah it seems that currently Planet Fitness has dropped their membership fees.

Biggest loser does help with inspiration to see how far people are able to push themselves. However I think that their concept about total weight loss instead of fat loss is skewed.

It's downright scary! The methods they use are dangerous. I stopped watching a long time ago...there's just no reason for people to endanger themselves like that for the sake of entertainment. I love a tough trainer, but if one ever treated me like Jillian sometimes treats them, it'd be over.

I'm the opposite for sure. Jillian is the kind of trainer i like. I had one that was really tough and it worked for me. Doesn't bother me a bit when i'm yelled at to do better and be stronger. NOTE: I was also in the military years ago so it's pretty hard to top basic training. ;)

Oh i definitely love a tough trainer. Not too long ago I was training with a DI and loved those sessions. It's some of the abject belittling to people obviously in emotional agony that I object to. Yes, you have to be tough to get the breakthrough, but sometimes she seems to go over a line. And some of those people are pretty emotionally fragile...

Its been awhile since I watched Biggest loser but I remember hearing one season their their diets were based around 1900 calories. Of course they will lose 10 lbs a week if they were use to eating 2-3X that and now their doing execise... I feel like its more about rating than anything but I love the concept. However brining people on a ranch kinda takes them out of the world of temptations and in a world where they have LOTS of support groups. they are all their to lose weight and motivate themselves. their is no longer the stresses of everyday life.
Im down with OBF show. maybe we could have some people do video blogs about their training and weight loss and see how it picks up.

I am going to jump on the Jillian bandwagon as well. She is definitely the kind of trainer I would love to have. Yes she is loud and rough at times, but I have still yet to see where in the grand scheme of things, that things don't get better for them by the end of the show. Although, that green team, might be the exception this year...

I've watched The Biggest Loser for years, and I enjoy it...I wouldn't mind Jillian's toughness, but I think she pushes a little too hard into emotional areas she's not qualified to deal with. I think some of the contestants have come up with BS stories about what made them fat in the past just to make it look like a "breakthough" on camera.

I don't know. If you are weighing 450+lbs like some of these people, it really is all about weight loss, and who cares if you are sacrificing some amount of muscle to get it off.
Obviously they have them weight train because we always want to maintain muscle, but there is a difference between some of these people and most of the people in the OBF. For me, it is all about fat loss, but then again I don't consider myself to be risking a heart attack everytime I stand up.

Not trying to argue with cha, so if I come off sound like a dick, my bad :)
Television in particular is able to influence a lot of individuals. If I'm thinking of losing weight and watching the biggest loser, im going to see people lose a phenomenal amount of weight maybe its gets me motivated. Because of whatever reason - ill see what there doing and try to copy them.
Im not saying that what they are doing is wrong, I do believe that yes it is better for individuals to lose weight and combat against their health conditions. But i do ideally think that the message being sent is wrong.
-proper nutrition, daily exercise - good message
-being on a strict caloric deficit for long periods of time isnt a good message
-goals being entire weight loss
again i havent really watched this show in awhile but i dont think there is any conclusion of once these individuals do reach their weight loss how to go from their.
lastly im kinda upset seeing the Biggest loser Protein and merchandise.

but to make it more appealing to the average viewer, they could make like... a dunk tank. or something. I am sure someone somewhere could find a way to make it more amusing to watch than a scale.

Agreed. And Im sure they are all under some medical supervision and given the okay in order to do the show, as well as being supervised throughout the course of the show.
I really think its great that all of the people who were nearing death by self destruct and gluttony are now healthy and losing the weight that might have killed them. I know it's harsh, but the truth IMO. I also like that there is a HUGE support group after the show.

Dropped 4.5 lbs last week just from diet. Can't believe how much I must have been eating to maintain that weight. Getting the running back into the routine and will start with the weights again next week.

Had an awesome workout today, I was so pissed off, here is why:
Well on the way home from work, before I went to the gym I got pulled over! And got a ticket for speeding.
I was going 71 in a 55mph zone. I told the cop, I am diabetic, I just ate when I left workout, but my needle for my insulin was messed up so I needed to get home in a rush (normally a 30min drive) so my sugar doesnt sky rocket. She was like "oh OK can I have your license and registration please?"
She went back to her truck for 6 mins, as my blood sugar just rises and rises, and gives me the ticket and said I could try writing a letter to the court about my condition and see if they would make an exception or a reduction on the ticket.
I think I am going to write a letter. But that may also go against me, what do you guys think?
Anyways, I was pissed off because of this, and that fueled one intense workout!

Sorry about your day.. Speeding tickets just plain suck, especially when you're needing to get somewhere like you were. Hopefully someone on here can give you some good advice on what to do!
On the other hand that's great it made for an intense workout!
That's a pretty solid deadlift for the first time out. How many Reps?
Well first i tried 135 to make sure i was doing form right.
then add 2 45s (total 225) and did 2reps, then moved down to 185 then slowly made my way up to 205
135(8),225(2),185(5),195(5),200(5),205(5)

That sucks bro and yeah write a letter. Make sure to bring a letter from your doctor stating that you are diabetic... would make it official.

ok i am done reading and everyone is doing really good. i ran out of rep points to give away but i have saturday off and i will use my moms puter again to read and pas points again. i havent had time to do anything. i was do for two days off after working all week then my boss asked me if i wouild work night shift(overnights) for two weeks and i said yes and she scheduled me to work my days off. i dont think they realized i have been working two weeks without a day off and working overnights is too hard. i cant sleep right either. i work at walmart and i dont get any help carrying boxes down the ladders. night shift is lazy. i am done complaining now. but if i can work two weeks non stop and still go to the gym and make my diet better all of you can do it too. that is the whole point of my telling you all of this. so you can do it! dont give up!

In her defense- cops hear so many bull**** stories and that is probably the 10th time this year someone used that particular kind of reasoning.
But p1ssed off workouts are the best!

Okay so it's my turn to post now, lol.
I have not weighed myself, I usually weigh in everyday, but I am practicing once a week.
My diet is in check, my exercise is in check too, but needs improvements. Such as the push ups contest- I have been slackin on that one, so I am gonna get some in and add my score tonight.
I feel an extra spring in my step when I am running around, which feels good. At my weight ANY improvements are felt and appreciated! My weight is not moving much lately, BUT my clothes are fitting differently. Which is good news and an encouragement.
I cheated yesterday by eating one too many english muffins and I ate about 1/4 cup of chocolate peanuts. This was not a planned cheat, so yikkes. Setbacks are always regretted, lol.
No matter what happens from day to day- its just that day- day to day, ya know? Each one is a new one. I dont expect that to make sense to anyone but me.

MY OPINION: Your situation was not an emergency room trip that required speeding.
If you are not able to stop at a local pharmacy and grab some needles in a case like this, I would suggest you keep extras handy at all times from now on and have a diabetic bracelet or diabetic ID of some sort available to flash a cop or for any other good reason you might need one.
That is the responsible thing to do- the cop was probably immune to the excuse you provided, as it is probably a common one, but...
I would write a letter anyway because, regardless of your being prepared or not, I am assuming you were given a standard ticket that everyone would have recieved, and I think that yours should be compromised since you were in a compromising situation.
Should you still get a ticket? Yes. Should it be reduced upon providing legal proof of diabetes? Yes.
Good luck! ...and glad you got in an awesome workout too, lol.

Biggest loser does help with inspiration to see how far people are able to push themselves. However I think that their concept about total weight loss instead of fat loss is skewed.
But their cookbook is awesome! First time I ever found a cookbook where I like more than half the recipes!! And they are healthy too... what a concept!! !! :)

I'm the opposite for sure. Jillian is the kind of trainer i like. I had one that was really tough and it worked for me. Doesn't bother me a bit when i'm yelled at to do better and be stronger. NOTE: I was also in the military years ago so it's pretty hard to top basic training. ;)
I agree about basic training! I was in the Army 20+ years ago. THAT is were 19again comes from!

ROFL! Nice!
Oh, I mean I'm very sorry about your predicament :D
What? I have a PBJ every morning, with that exact same PB, well sometims the chunkyversion.
Yes, it 'tis good stuff. Like most things, it's fine in moderation. The cals/fat grams are killer, though!
HAHAHA!! LOVE your humor
Hahaha..
The problem I have with the natty peanut butter is that if you don't control the amount those calories add up vvvery quick. One tablespoon is 100 cal. Until you are done with a "snack" with pb you may have consummed 500 calories without even realizing it. You might as well have just had a steak and been done witth it. But anyway, I find stuff like pb to be very deceptive- just like condiments. Til you end up putting them on your food sometimes you have doubled or tripled the calorie intake. That is how some people get fat eating salads- in most cases the dressing is nothing but fat and extremely high in calories. So if I am going to take this thing seriously I need to start evaluating how truly clean my diet is and find ways to satisfy those cravings with healthy alternatives.

I know that made ya feel good. Smile and be happy!

Sup guys, my weight is going no where but my strength is going up. Was watching the Biggest Loser on tv last night, pretty interesting show. Maybe one day OBF will get big enough to become a reality tv show? Wouldn't that be tight lol.
I dont watch BL, its all about show bizz and rates. But I WOULD watch OBF if it had a tv show! At least I would be able to connect with it.

I'll have a glass of water every now and then :)
My diet wasn't so great this weekend, and I had a few beers last night. I paid for it with a very rough workout today :(
I am encouraged to be benching a little better. I did 155x3 today...which might seem pathetic at my size, but it's the most I've done since I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago, and it was pain free.
kept to my diet 100% !!! anyone else not drink anything ?

I got a question for you guys. So I am a beginner lifter..... I mean like ultra-noob. For the last 1.5 weeks of the challenge been focused on eating and cardio conditioning. Usually that means walking/jogging, biking, stairclimber, and at least 15 minutes of solid jump rope. Now for the next 14 weeks I need to incorporate some strength training program.
What program did you use when you first lifted?
Thinking Starting Strength, P90X, Body for Life, or Abs Diet Challenge.
###Note: If I were to get into a brawl with a 6.5 year old girl, she would most likely demolish me, so getting a program suited for me would be an amazing thing.

Ok I hate to be a jerk, but I'm a cop, and here is how I see it.
You were doing 16mph over the speed limit. A decent amount. You have a pretty good excuse, but here is the thing. Firstly, that only would have saved you about 6 minutes off your drive (very rough math since you only said your trip is normally about 30 min, and i dont know how many traffic control signals there are, etc), and to warrant 16mph and the inherent danger it brings does not really justify it.
Also, as others have pointed out, you had no way of proving it. A diabetic without a bracelet or medical tag? You should get one ASAP. The list of excuses we hear everyday is a mile long so a little proof goes a long way.
Keep in mind it could have been worse. That police officer could have called an ambulance to the scene, since you basically were claiming a medical emergency, and that would have delayed you further, not to mention stick you with the burden of insurance paperwork, ambulance bills, etc.
That being said, go to court for it anyways, explain to the judge/magistrate. Are they LEGALLY obligated to go easy on you? No, you broke the law. But will sympathy play a part? I would be on it. Maybe not get the whole thing dismissed, but I would honestly be shocked if they didn't at least lower it. And remember to provide medical documentation along with it.
Good luck!

I dont usually have that problem but after last night *sigh* I am affraid it happened to me too. I have been doing really good with my diet so I dont think this little slip will set me back too much but my problem was organic almond butter. 180 calories for 2 tbl spoons and stuck to that as a snack on 1 slice whole wheat. Then about 5 minutes past and I was like wow that was good. I think I am down half a jar now. I noticed what I was doing a little too late but I did force myself to stop and headed to the elliptical. So now I see the problem.

Out of those, I would recommend starting strength. I think you'll look back on it in a year or two and be really glad that is where you started. The others are basically conditioning programs, I own p90x and do it with my wife sometimes, but you certainly aren't going to build any significant muscle with it. It is hard, and better than any video program I've ever seen, but if you are already doing cardio and have your diet somewhat figured out, I think an actual weight lifting program like Starting Strength would be by far your best option.

I haven't tried any of those, so I can't really comment other than I have heard great things about Rippetoe's and p90x, don't know too much about the other two.

Starting Strength is a great program
I'd have to look back through my manual but 5/3/1 seems like it would be a great option for you too, I'm running it now and its awesome. 5/3/1 would be better suited for loosing lbs and transforming imo

I think the best thing for you would be a whole body workout that you could do 3x a week. Focus on basic compound movements (bench press, squats, deadlift) and work on perfecting your form. Or you could do a push/pull split 4x a week if you like too. Just two quick ideas....

I hear a lot of recommendations for starting strength, but its made for total lifting noobs who are basically bulking up... If that sounds like you, then go for it.
If you're aiming to gain some strength but not put on much weight (cut/recomp), I'd suggest finding a simple full body routine that uses compound lifts that you can do 3-4 days a week. I think the starting strength routine would probably cover that though... but it requires lots of food/recovery...
Having never done it, that's just my opinions....

I somewhat agree, but if he is really at the level he described, which would be a complete novice, he should be able to take advantage of the initial adaptation to training stimulus (aka noob gainz). If he hasn't weight trained at all, he should be able to still increase strength in a linear fashion up to a certain point, while losing fat.
Now, would he gain strength at a much faster weight if he was all out bulking, of course.

Yea, but even doing a full body routine as opposed to starting strength he'd probably make wicked noob gains.. no matter what he does he will likely get stronger lol (which is nice... i'm sad my noob gains are gone :( ). I may be wrong, but with noob gains you may be better off with a higher frequency of training than 3 days a week with more exercises than the starting strength program tells you to do (if you're trying to cut/recomp and not bulk)? Like Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Shoulder Press, Bentover Rows, Pullups/downs, accessory leg work, some arms if you feel the need... do you understand what I mean? I may not have made sense how I wanted to.

when i weighed myself yesterday i was 5 lbs. down, today its up 2 lbs... im hoping its just all the water ive been drinking... but i cant seem to brake under 180 yet! so frustrating
Weight fluctuates a ton on a daily basis :) don't worry about it and just stay focused on your diet.
Also, I've decided I'm going to use Livestrong Myplate over Fitday. I've been a long time user of fitday but Livestrong blows away fitday in it's ability to search for and add food items. I haven't found a brand yet that I wasn't able to find on Livestrong. Anyone else use this site?
I've been using dailyplate @ livestrong for a while now... I like it. Though sometimes the food brands in there aren't accurate re: macros so just be sure to verify that the entry you're using is correct. You can also add your own brands into the database, but I'm usually too lazy to do that.

I would recommend a starting strength program, having tried Riptoes for awhile and Max-OT i prefer Max-OT.
Better recovery, more excises, Ive also had more strength increase on Max-OT.
a side note because Max-OT is 5 times a day vs 3 for RIptoes, you will burn more calories :)

Really bad day so far today... really trying my hardest not to get down on myself...
Hope every is having a better day than I am.
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!
Would it make you feel better if I drove down there and smacked you around a little? :p
Wait....don't answer that!! Lulz
LOL that was hilarious!
Nothin like a good ol fashioned beating to get ones motivation to perk up, lol.
Well, I hate to be different, but I'm feeling great! My workouts are awesome, I'm loaded up with feel good endorphins, and yeah. Life is pretty much rocking.
Keep on keepin on sista! That's what I like to see posted. "Git 'er Done"

LOL!!!!! Love this!
Unfortunately, i'm going to have to jump on the band waggon because my day is $hit. I slept in again this morning. Not sure why because it's not something i do often but it's the second time this week. Then my boss does nothing but tell me what i've done wrong because it's not done HIS way (and heaven forbid he tell what way he wants it). I actually broke down and shed a couple of tears this morning in the bathroom because i've had enough. sigh...I can be such a wussy sometimes.
So, thank you for the pic, i needed it.
On the up side, diet and training are on schedule again this week. :)
I agree, I think the pic is super cute. Hey Jen, I have read what your diet looks like on your log... Do you think that is the reason you have slept in? Lack of energy is what Im thinking, and your body is telling you to rest because its low in fuel?
Hope your day gets better!

You too huh? I just had a 100 cal popcorn pack that was in my desk, blah! I would much rather have a sloppy batch of hot wings or something to go with the madness! How bout them Monarchs?!? I definitely didn't have them picked!

I hate to be an obnoxious "you can do it cheerleader" but... you guys can do this!
Based on my own experience, just keep on truckin'. If you miss a workout or fudge a little on your diet (maybe literally? lol), just get back on track right away. Don't brush it off as a whole day gone to waste.
And remember we're all here to support each other :)
Sometimes my worst days can turn right around when I come on here and read some of the things other people are going through or are accomplishing. Good luck guys!
PS - I'm this positive today because my deltoid finally found it's way through my mountain of fat and said hello to the outside world. Don't mind me *floats on cloud 9*
Ah sh*t, I was so sure this contest was going to start april 6th. Now I missed it :( stupid me.

I would say no. I've had very little sleep before (more often than i'd like) and i still get up. Am i tired? Yes, but still able to roll out of bed. Also, daylight savings last weekend isn't helping.
...as for the diet, i can feel the effects of it. Especially yesterday, but it comes with the territory and it's something i have to suck up or i have to take supps to overcome the lethargic state. I know a lot of people probably cringe because of my diet, but it's not long term and back to maintenance in 2 weeks.

Ah been slacking this week =(. I'm on spring break so I'm back home and i don't have any membership to a gym so the only gym I go to is my Universities gym. My university is about a 30 min drive from my house on a good day. I was planning on going this week but that drive is just soo much. I mean I'm been doing basic stuff at home and trying to eat right but couldn't get into my routine this week. Need to go in hard next week and go back strong as soon as I'm back at school.

This week has already been tougher than I had anticipated, I had to build a green wall system with a group and it took 12 hours longer than we expected. So I ended up having to pull an all nighter at my uni, and I didn't have money for food so I just didn't eat...which sucks hard.
Should be able to get my diet back on track today with some stuffed green peppers for supper.
Still out of the gym until the 29th though..unless some miracle happens and my thesis decides to finish itself.
Thankfully though, with that green wall project St. Patty's wasn't even a thought. Lol, all I wanted to do was go home and sleep.

What do you mean..."Need to go in hard next week,"? You have the rest of this day to do that. Don't waste any time. This is a contest and a short lived one at that, every moment counts.
If you are not willing to drive to the gym, you can do a better than basic workout at home, now, today, without waiting. Try, try again with your diet today. Do not finish it off making bad choices.
Relax and start over. You can do it.
