From the title you can guess that i'm in the OBF contest for the next few months.
Going to give a little background about myself.

I started training and dieting last year at the end of Jan 09. I hired a personal trainer who kicked my ass 3 days a week. I loved it. He put me on a strict diet (PSMF) for 5 days a week and 2 days were cheat days.

I moved to the keto diet last June and had great success. Unfortunately life situations (wedding, camping) would halt progress (fat loss) and sometimes even gain fat.

By the beginning of August 09 i realized that i need to get my $hit together if i wanted a lean body. Then it happen, i suffered a serious injury which took me right out of the game.

You can read about it here
My Leg Injury (http://blog.bodybuilding.com/kudostojen/2009/08/24/fractured-my-leg-in-multiple-place/)

I finally got back on track in mid October 09 and then again, life happened. I lost my job Dec 1. Being a single Mom and so close to Christmas it was extremely stressful and diet went down the toilet. Training was still good because i had to do physiotherapy daily anyway. Come January 2010, i took about 3 weeks off from the gym and in the beginning Feb this year i got back on track.

I started eating properly and hitting the weights hard. Then about a week ago i realized that my diet really wasn't where it was suppose to be. I was making small exceptions which add up to lack of, or slow progress.

Last week i read Lyle McDonald's book " Rapid Fat Loss" which is a modified PSMF. I've lost 1.5lbs in under a week (not water weight) so the diet is working but it's not an easy one.

I want to walk around this summer in a swim suite and have everyone stare. Yes, i want that kind of attention. I want people to look at me and say

"WOW, she looks great. She's in great shape".

Good luck to everyone else in the contest and lets keep each other on track and pushing hard. :D

Pics up tomorrow.

Thanks. If i remember correctly, you're in the contest as well so good luck to you too.

I also wanted to point out some youtube vids (documentary) that have been floating around the forums in the last week.

Go to this thread and click on the links. This is a great documentary about what it takes to compete in bb contests. This guy went from 27% bf to 4% bf in 6 months.

"I want to look like this guy" a video all MUST watch! (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122794981)

Hey good luck! You seem really motivated... Good sign. I'm in the OBF also, going to be a hard/fun time.

Oh by the way, do you think Canada will make it easier for me to move there if I have a killer body????? :(

Yep, I am. Thanks!

I actually just watched that documentary. It was so good and very informative. It made me curious about the guys on the boards who have six-packs (at least in their avatars, anyway, lol). Are they tired/hungry all the time like the guy in the vid? Interesting stuff... :)

He was at a very low bf%. I don't think that many guys on here are that low. Maybe 10% which would be manageable. You also have to remember, some people are just born lucky and can keep that kind of body.

oh, and we only display our best pics. ;)

ok, my pics are up and i was lucky enough to be the second contestant to post pics. :)
I will admit, i'm really embarrassed by those pics. I didn't think i looked that bad, :( but that's going to change.

Starting stats

26% bf (measured with calipers)

As i said in my first post i'm on the PSMF diet laid out by Lyle McDonald

I can't eat eggs so this is breakfast

protein shake
flax oil capsules
omega 3-6-9 capsules
potassium
ALA
multivitamin.

I won't be posting my daily diet because that would be redundant. I will post cals and protein.

I will be doing this diet for the next 5 weeks then taking a 2 week break at maintenance cals then back onto the diet.

Types of foods.

Leafy greens
Cucumbers
Celery
Chicken
Steak
Lean ground beef
Shrimp
Other lean fish
BCAAs when needed
as you can see, i don't like veggies

This diet is nothing exciting but it is effective.

thanks Jenn, good luck to you too.

I'm going to make it happen this year. My goal, which i haven't stated yet, is to get to 16% BF. I've got 38lbs of fat on me now, so i would have to lose 17lbs of BF to reach 16%BF which should put me at approx 130lbs. That's almost 1.5/week. Definitely doable. :D

I'm having my last "cheat" meals today...haha and tomorrow the new eating plan begins.
For me, I really would love to be caring less BF on long runs hehe. Haven't done the calculations yet but I'll keep you posted.

I've been on this modified PSMF since last week and i haven't had too many cravings. I had my free meal on Friday night and some low carb bread on Saturday and that's it. I haven't gone over my maintenance at all.

BTW, i should only be having one free meal a week, so that low carb toast i had yesterday was a no-no, but a couple pieces of toast aren't going to hurt me in the long run.

Carbohydrate 4.0

Protein 92.5

Protein is lower than i'd like but Sunday's are usually tough for me. I don't do much other than house work and I'm usually not to hungry during the day. Cals do not include my veggies or EFA capsules.

Just in case someone didn't read my first post. My cals are suppose to be this low. There was someone on my other log yesterday and he was worried that i was starving.

This is the man i got the diet from. His articles are awesome. This article goes onto explain the different calorie deficits including mine. If you have the time, take a look. It's a great read.

Setting the Deficit – Small, Moderate or Large by Lyle McDonald (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/setting-the-deficit-small-moderate-or-large.html)

I'll be hitting the gym after work today (Mar 8). Upper body with compound exercises. Training is kept short, low sets, low reps with high weight. Again, this is due to the extreme calorie deficit. A short session of cardio will be done after weight training. HIIT, or sometimes a MIIT for 15 min including warm up and cool down. This keeps my cardio stamina high.

kudos for doing the double t extra cool challenge, too! :D

Thanks, kudos to you too for joining me.

I've heard nothing but good things about the P90x.

The diet i'm on, there's not much to the food but a lot of warnings and precautions because the cals are so low. It's not for the long term that's for sure.

Good luck and keep moving. :D

Training was good today but i don't feel like i'm doing enough. I don't want to go overboard with it due to the diet but at the same time i feel like a big wussy. On that note, weight has increased since last week so i can't be too big of a wussy. lol
I'll start logging my weight in the gym soon.

I noticed a difference in my gym clothes today. They're loser. :D Sports bra and training pants are not as snug as they were on Friday, and i didn't have my free meal till AFTER training on Friday.

I suspect a big loss this week.

I want to make a note about getting to the gym when scheduled. I meant to do it yesterday during my update but i forgot.

I didn't get much sleep on Sunday night which is usually what happens every week. Around 1:30 in the afternoon yesterday i started to crash, hard. I was so tired that i just wanted to lay down and have a nap. I have a desk job so it makes lack of sleep much worse. I remember thinking to myself that i still had to go to the gym before i could go home.

I had just finished my first set at the gym and while resting i realized that i felt much better. Then i realized that it didn't even occur to me to NOT go to the gym that afternoon because i was tired. Then i realized that i never occurs to me to skip the gym when i'm tired. I suspect this is because i've been going to the gym for so long and on the same days every week that it's just a part of my daily life and to stray from that schedule would upset my daily routines. I also find the diet easier to stick to on the days i do go to the gym.

What a great mindset to be in. :D
If only dieting were that easy. ;)

A pillow, a blankey and a totally clear desk...naps can happen anywhere. ;)

I agree that the diet is easier when you stick to your program. It's harder when you slack off, or are overtired. It really SHOULD be that easy.

Great job sticking with it and feeling better! Hope you got more sleep last night.

The diet is from Lyle McDonald's book Rapid Fat Loss. It's considered a crash diet, so it's not long term. I started this diet before i even found out about the contest because i was making exceptions to my previous diet and i needed to buck-up and get my $hit together. This diet is a great way to do that and lose some weight too. I'll be taking a "diet brake" in about 3 to 4 weeks, meaning i'll be eating at maintenance for 2 weeks then it's back to low cals.

I'm also suppose to take a free meal or a re-feed once a week. This will include carbs because as you can see, i don't eat any. I can't go over maintenance and i would prefer to stay under. This will also help physiologically and give my metabolism a little shock.

BTW, if you haven't been to Lyle's web site, i highly recommend you check it out. Read his articles. You would be amazed what you could learn.
Body Recomposition is the site and use the search engine to find the article you're looking for.

I purchased a BF calliper on bb.com for 2.99. It works and helps me track progress. I'll only use it monthly though and check my weight weekly. Using your clothes is really the best way to track progress, you just don't get any numbers from it.

I remember having a great body in my late teens and early 20's. sigh...

We'll get back to those bodys by June. :D

And another thing... it seems like most of the female competitiors are Canadian haha... look at us go. I'll have to go check out some stats to see if that's the truth.

100% true. The prizes are great but I really wanted to do this challenege for the added motivation and to see a change in myself. Ultimately we are competing against ourselves because everyone has such a different body type, it's going to be interesting!!!

That sucks. Are they going to do surgery?

Ah yes, Lyle...Im familiar with his site and have read some of his work. I look forward to seeing the type of results it brings you. I didnt see his layout for the diet exactly, I guess you have to pay for that? Maybe I missed it though, he just seemed to give a brief overview of the diet from what I saw.

Yeah, you have to get the actual book.

100% true. The prizes are great but I really wanted to do this challenege for the added motivation and to see a change in myself. Ultimately we are competing against ourselves because everyone has such a different body type, it's going to be interesting!!!

I can't wait to see everyone's transformations.

I really don't know what you're all on about. I'm absolutely going to be win this thing. It's all part of my plan to take over the world. ;)

No, no, no. Can't you see my signature, i'm going to be the winner. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sport/sport23.gif

No, this is my first time. I looks pretty good though. I can cut out some of my individual supps that i take for this CreaDyl.

I got the protein just in time too. I have 1 or 2 more servings in my other jug.

I hope so, eventually... I've only recently had an MRI after dealing with it for 9 months thinking it wasn't that serious... I get the results of the MRI next friday (supposed to be March 2 but postponed to March 19th) and then hopefully surgery will be scheduled shortly after... It could put a damper on my progress.

I'm still waiting for my order... I'm in the Double-T portion of the OBF contest as well. I expect it to arrive anytime... and I ordered one of both Orange and Lemon-Lime. I'm hoping I like the taste... lol

I screwed my leg and knee in August of 09. I know how you feel, kind of. I broke my leg and crushed my knee. PCL and ACL were severely sprained and my ankle ligaments were worse. They were last to heal. No driving (right leg), no cooking, no showering, no nothing!!! It was hard because i'm so independent and i'm a single mom of a 9yr old. It took multiple doctors to decide whether or not to do surgery. I would have needed shims in my knee because my bone was crushed, but i'm healing well.

All the doctors and WCB are very impressed with my recovery and believe that it's because i was in such good shape when the injury happened.

Honestly, i went right off track when i broke my leg. How can i stick to a diet when i can't cook, shop when i need to or train. It's really tough. I know others who have had surgery on their ACL can heal in weeks but i obviously took longer than a few weeks due to broken bones. I still have to get one more splint for my knee in the next couple of months. I have so many splints and casts. lol

How did you tear your ACL?

I hurt mine second weekend of June 09... second football game of the season. It was kinda a freak accident, I was playing defensive end and I was running after the running back and someone behind me who was also chasing the ball fell and hit me directly in the side of the left knee. My patella dislocated, muscles completely locked up. Nothing was broken because the patella dislocated, and we thought the fact my muscles were in great condition saved some of my knee... first we thought that the MCL/LCL got a little strained or stretched, but after several months of it not getting any better, I finally got an MRI (should've done it sooner ffs) and read up on ACL tears and from what it sounds like its definitely what's wrong with me... I just hope it wasn't a complete knee blow out, cause apparently direct collision/trauma to the knee is a recipe for total knee disaster... I can't jog at 5mph for a mile without the whole thing twisting on me, I gotta be really careful walking up and down stairs, I can't really squat heavy anymore because I'm lacking stability and there's a chance that my knee can just give out on me at any time... Luckily I've worked most of the strength back, but the Vastus Medialis (teardrop quad muscle) is practically non-existant in my left leg because I'm pretty sure it took the brunt of the blow to my knee....

I'm anxiously awaiting the 19th to find out how bad it really is... I was trying out for the national football team this year (first year there's ever been a worlds for women's football) and as you can assume that was thoroughly quashed. First week of my injury I couldn't walk (I hopped on one foot) and said screw the diet entirely, but I kept doing upper body exercises in my basement gym once I could make it down the stairs, and after 2-3 weeks or so I was able to begin exercising my legs again (although very carefully)...

When I was using the gym at work I managed to get my squat up to 115 for a few reps but it didn't feel very stable so I didn't push it.... Used to be able to do 2 plates a side on the smith machine squat :( Got the leg press back to 3 plates per side though... that was a big accomplishment.

/long story lol

Yea, I figure if I end up having to spend some time in the hospital or incapable of moving for a while, I'll try PSMF or the Velocity diet. I might PM you for a few pointers if it comes to that, because I'm cheap and won't download the book (unless its free... lol)

I wouldn't do the Velocity diet. I think you would feel like you're starving because you're not eating any food.

PSMF is pretty good. You get to eat real food, most is protein and you can eat as much non-starchy green veg as you want.

I also wanted to point out some youtube vids (documentary) that have been floating around the forums in the last week.

Go to this thread and click on the links. This is a great documentary about what it takes to compete in bb contests. This guy went from 27% bf to 4% bf in 6 months.

Awesome, you must be so pleased!!! Weight is down, but I dont see any changes yet. Hopefully soon!

Since there is a lot of chat about CreaDyl and Double T doing on in here...I have a question!!!

Ive been wanting to enter the double t portion of the contest but Im concerned about ordering the CreaDyl bc you have to consume twice a day, and on non training days. I noticed it contains beta alanine (This gives you a tingling sensation and warmth). I find it cool when training because it gives me focus but when Im not, its just irritating.

Has anyone done the second serving during the day and on non training days? If so...what did u think? Did it bug you?

Ive only ever had Beta Alanine plain, so maybe it was more intense like that...Id like to enter but I dont want to waste my money if I dont qualify because Im not consuming according to the directions.

Also...Im guessing at my weight Ill need two containers for the duration of the contest?

Thanks for any help!

I hear that! I feel as if I'm wasting away cause I'm not eating nearly as much as I used to, and I'm pretty sure my stomach shrunk a little. The one thing I'm worried about now is loose skin :S

I've never used the product before and I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, but I can tell you that I'm going to require minimum 2 tubs for the contest, so chances are you will too. I'm only weight training 3x a week right now... maybe 4... so I budgetted for that (and asked like the same question in the main thread :P)

I am pleased. It doesn't feel like it's happening quick, but if i think about where i was 2 weeks ago, it's really quick.

I just started taking it today. Yesterday was a really bad day. That's why you don't wee an update for it. No gym time was scheduled yesterday either but live kept throwing me curve balls.

I've never taken beta alanine so this will be really new for me. I've taken creatine a lot in the past and i swear by it.

Take another look at the directions, because it says to start with half a scoop and progress if needed. You're not suppose to go over 2 scoops per day so having to scoops a day would put you at the max dosage. I think you're going to need 2 tubs even at one scoop a day.

I think I may need a lot more than 2....

Looks to me like the serving is 1.5-2 scoops, 2x a day on training days, and 2 scoops on non training are required. Im guessing we have to follow the directions or we wont qualify for the contest.

So if I was training w/ weight 4 days a week, that would be 288 servings over the course of the contest and there is 40 servings in a container...so it sounds like I would need 7 containers. Can that be right? Seems like a lot :(

You're not being vain, you just know what you want.

You're young and your skin will bounce back. I had my daughter at 23 and i only got a couple of stretch marks 2 weeks before i gave birth. I was so close to not having any. My mom has had 4 kids and doesn't have one stretch mark to show for it. Anyway, the point i'm trying to make is, my stomach skin went back to normal in less than 2 months so i can't see you having anything to worry about. If your skin is starting to feel lose then you're probably losing some fat.

Did you get my email?

I'm not able to check my email until I get home from work sadly, but it will be the first thing I do (should be home around 430 - so 3.5 hours)

I already have a TON of stretch marks from grow spurts when I was a kid... like, everywhere. None on my stomach itself, but some on the sides... so I think stretchy skin isn't a strong point in my genes lol. I'll just have to wait it out and see how I look when I hit 130lbs :P

I just want to take a moment to point out all the benefits i've experienced while being on a low carb diet. When carbs are so low that you're in ketosis i've noticed some real benefits, but don't worry, i'll list the cons too.

Pros
No more oily skin
frown lines are less noticeable
no water weight (1 or 2 sizes smaller)
no crashes after eating (needing a nap)
glycogen depletion (higher fat oxidation, burning of fat for fuel)
can cure carb cravings
weighing fat loss without worrying about water weight

Cons

groggy and tired during the transition into ketosis
smelly breath
smelly urine (i know that's important to everyone, lol)
glycogen depletion (poor gym performance)
Constipation

there are a great deal more but then we start getting into scientific studies and i'm not interested in making a post that long.

Update

Training today was good. Nothing special. Shoulders, calves and abs. 20min of cardio and a nice hot tan. I love tanning.

Diet today was fine. Same old, same old, chicken, protein shakes and veggies. ooohhh, aaahhh...

I should note that i started taking the CreaDyl today. It was fine. I didn't notice anything in the gym but i did the small muscles today and my strength increased last week substantially. I'll give this product another couple weeks before i comment on it again.

Happy Friday to you too. I love Fridays.

Thanks for the luck. Same to you. I'm going to buy a new bikini this year when the contest is done. :D

yes, i have the lemon lime. It's fine if you drink it within the first 15min but then the taste changes. I don't care for it but it's not so bad that i can't drink it.

I'm sooo restless today. I had nothing planned which was kind of the point but then i couldn't sit still. Today is a re-feed day. I did pretty good. I had some ice cream tonight and some curly fries with my dinner. I know, not a great idea but i didn't binge. I don't think i could anyway. I'm so full and i my portions were so small. lol.

I don't go to the gym on the weekends. Mon, Tue, Weds and Fri are gym days. Then if i miss a day, i have the weekend to pick up the slack. i usually don't though.

I'm going to throw in one of my favorite movies and relax. Pitch Black with Vin Diesel. I love that movie. I wish there were more sci-fis out there. ok, there's a lot but most suck.

I have the orange cream. It doesn't change over time but it's very orange-y. It's exactly like a melted orange creamsicle. I actually cut it with a bit of lime juice to sour it up a bit and have no problem with it at all now. I noticed that today I barely noticed drinking it at all.

Tried watching the movie last night and i crashed hard. I suspect that has to do with the ice cream i ate. Sucks that we lost an hour today too.

Back to the low cals today. I probably won't eat much and will have to force some of the protein down my throat. I still feel a bit full from last nights dinner and ice cream. I hate that. Looking forward to the flat, empty stomach feeling which should come tomorrow.

Grocery list for today:
Salad (the stuff that looks like it came from a weed garden. lol)
Chicken
Steak
Fish
Cucumber
Celery
Low cal Yogurt (i need to get more calcium and this is one way to do that.)

That's it. That's all i eat.

A calander showing how much time we have. I must admit, i didn't think we had that much time. 15 weeks from now and most of us have started last week.

A calander showing how much time we have. I must admit, i didn't think we had that much time. 15 weeks from now and most of us have started last week.

I enjoy the visual representation.

Yea, i realized it really wasn't all that much time when I was preparing myself for the contest... I bought a few notebooks, one to log workouts, one to log meals, and then i have a general day planner that i have from work. I got all my goals written in, different time blocks to accomplish different things, how much weight i expect to drop any given week... etc etc. Unforunately even though it isn't allll that long, i still get to miss out on 3 good long weekends (which usually involve beach parties with heavy drinking and tons of munchies)... Luckily one of the best ones is right at the end :D

Did the refeed set you back any? Cause I'm still rollllllllllin'

No, no. It didn't set me back (you wish :p). They're needed being on the diet i'm on. This is actually pretty easy for me to stick to. I was on the CKD before this and it's almost the same, less the fat.

I can feel the water weight though. ughh. That's one thing i don't like about re-feeds, is the amount of water weight you put on. It's only a couple pounds but i can still feel it.

Good for you documenting everything. I'm pretty good about that, especially when it comes to calories. I need to know exactly where i'm at by the end of the day.

My birthday is May 3, smack dab in the middle of the contest. I'm also heading to Vegas the end of this month or early April so that will be interesting. Only going for a few days so i should be ok.

the shaker cup and casein protein sample came with my order of ON Whey. Then bb.com gives a free gift if you spend over $75 and i chose the t-shirt. I already wore it to the gym. I like it.

Ok, that's pretty brutal.
I've never been to vegas myself but I know if I did go it would be a ridiculous free-for-all of money spending and general debauchery. And my birthday parties are generally much the same... lol I'm lucky mine is well away from the contest, and the only trips I have planned are to my cottage to do yard/house work and to the next province over to watch my football team's games!

Good luck with that... Be strong :P

Hey!!

My bday is in the middle of the contest too! April 27th. My boyfriend and I had planned on going to Dallas long before I entered this contest and go to the Renaissance Fair they hold there. (yeah..I'm a nerd. :p)

A full weekend of beer drinking and turkey leg noshing - hope it doesn't set me too far back either!

Anyways...good luck in the contest! Gotta give you props for doing the PSMF - I don't think I could handle that. :)

it's really not that bad. I thought i would be really restricted with eating, don't get me wrong, there's not a lot of options because fat and carbs have to be minimal to none in your food. But you're allowed to eat as much veg (low starchy veggies, green) as you want and a descent about of protein. I take EFA capsules which will bring the cals up (i don't include those in my daily cal count) so it's really not that bad. The hardest part is getting creative with my food. I'm not always hungry, my energy is good and my gym performance is fine, plus i get a re-feed day once a week....and the best part is i'm dropping weight fast.

I take this type of diet seriously and follow all recommendations to ensure i don't do any major damage. I must also make sure that when the diet is done that i stick to my maintenance to get my metabolism back to normal because it will slow during this diet and getting back to normal must be done properly or i'll gain the weight back.

A few sips and that's it. just a fraction of half a serving.

This is what it says.

Beta-Alanine

In higher doses, Beta-Alanine may cause a tingling sensation on the skin which can be used as a gauge for one's toleration level.

Guess i'm a little intolerant. lol

i'm feeling so tired today. ughh. It's the diet. Another 2 weeks and i'll be back at maintenance. I'm already looking forward to my re-feed this Friday and Saturday. :D

My left leg has some good DOMS already today and makes me wonder if i'm favouring that leg because there's no DOMS in my right. I need to pay more attention to that while training. It's hard not to protect my right leg due to the injury. It's instinct at this point and something i need to work on.

I often wonder the same thing... either one leg is being favored, or the other was just weaker and you sufficiently kicked its butt, while not working the other to the same extent (but still equally, ya know?). That's my theories at least lol. Having a bum leg (left), I often get DOMS in my right leg after a workout because I know I'm favoring the left still... but if I do one leg at a time, my left MIGHT get sore the next day but the right will be fine... cause it can take a lot more abuse. You might be doing the same thing...

I'm pretty sure i'm favoring my left leg. During physio i would use a leg press machine where there were 2 presses, one for each leg. I think i need to go back to that.

Funny thing about my injured leg is that it has less muscle and more definition. I noticed a new muscle cut on that leg over the weekend. I was so excited. I can even feel it. :D

I'm going to be lazy today and not input my update. I may do it tomorrow.

NOTE: I'm going to give my ON Whey and the CreaDyl one more week and if my stomach issues don't subside, i'm going to stop taking one of them and try and figure out if one of them is the problem. I feel bloaty and gross a lot this week and those are the only things new in my diet.

Another thing you can try when doing the leg press, only press with one leg at a time. I do that on leg extensions too (well, I did, until I realized its probably not helping my knee stay together). Most leg machines are good like that... and if you're feeling ballsy, Bulgarian Split Squats lol

Hope your tum feels better soon. I'd hate to have to see you pull out of the Double T portion for not being able to stomach CreaDyl :p

..But for realz, I know how much that sorta thing sucks. I finally bought myself some new protein powder yesterday. I'll give the Nectar I got left a few more tries but I may have to just turf it cause the stomach discomfort is not worth it. Hopefully the crappy feelings pass for you.

Ummm..could be the creatine in the CreaDYl. Curious to know if its micronized? I had stomach issues with creatine that wasnt in the past. Have you upped your water? That might help.

kudostojen

Not sure what it could be, but i've definitely upped my water intake quite a bit. Thing is, it could just be me. Sometimes all it takes is for me to eat the wrong thing and i feel it for a week, that's why i'm going to give both supps one more week. I want to make sure it's not me.

I've taken ON whey before, it was the mix of fast digesting and slow digesting whey (can't remember what it's called). I've also taken Creatine many times before so i wonder about that one too. Again, i'll wait one more week and see what happens.

beta-alanine and creatine have a synergistic effect.

That is pretty low calories. Do you think you need to be that low in order to lose fat fast? I think I need to eat very little to lose anything. Or then I could increase my cardio which probably would be better idea.

I do need to be at a good calorie deficit to lose weight in a decent amount of time. If you didn't read the part where i talk about which diet i'm doing, it's the modified PSMF by Lyle McDonald. I'm following his instruction and recommendations. I actually feel pretty good considering my cals are so low but i'm also taking my vitamins and supps to give my body what it needs because i'm eating so little.

I've eaten less for longer which wasn't done on purpose but when i look back to when i was in my late teens and early 20s, i hardly ate at all. That would be why i lost 30lbs in 3 months. I really did need to lose those 30lbs though.

I'll be at maintenance in a couple of weeks (diet brake) then i'll be back onto low cals.

Increasing cardio to increase calorie expenditure is a good way to lose fat faster but i just don't have the time. It was a lot easier to eat at a higher calorie level at my old job because i was so active for most of the day. Now i sit at a desk for 8hrs a day burning very few cals.

My stomach is much better, thank you. I think it was all the dairy (big blizzard) that weekend. I can handle dairy but not in large amounts. Yogurt is about as much dairy as my belly will tolerate. Still taking the CreaDly and ON Whey and there are no issues.

March 20-21

This weekend was good. My cheat meal on Saturday night was awesome. Ginger beef, chicken nuggets, spring rolls (the size of my pinky finger, so cute) followed with cake and ice cream (1 spoonful only). My Mom pointed out that 90% of my food was protein. haha. I didn't notice till she said something. Too bad it was all covered in a sweet sauce.

I've got a serious munchy problem lately but i think it's due to that TOM. Last night i really wanted to eat something even though my stomach was full. I pulled out some extra chicken i made and munched on that.

I read somewhere that it's Magnesium (i think, i would have to double check later) that our body is craving and that's why we want chocolate during TOM. You can find chocolate bars that are real cocoa at 80% or higher. That might help with the cravings and it's good for you too. Also, mix real cocoa powder with light whip cream and you get a nummy mousse snack and it's not too high in cals.

Thoughts

For the most part energy has been pretty good on this diet. I have my days where i'm fatigued but then i'll drink some of the CreaDyl, it seems to help significantly with my energy levels.

My body is getting smaller but unfortunately i can't measure this with the scale because my weight isn't going down much. I did purchase a new pair of jeans over a week ago and now i'm pulling them up all the time. No more shopping for a couple of months. Check that, i'm going to Vegas in April and i'm going to do lots of shopping. So cheap in the States.

While doing my calf raises i noticed everyone else in the gym. They were all men. They were looking really good. Spring is coming and i should train up in the ladies area. :p

I can see a bit of a difference in my waist and hips in 16 days. I don't know what the hell i was thinking wearing those white things for my start photos. Yuk.

Finally, the paper notes that some of the drive for appetite may be mediated by changes in blood glucose homeostasis. Empirically, some women seem to be more prone to hypoglycemia during certain phases of the menstrual cycle and falling blood sugar can stimulate hunger. Ensuring that blood glucose levels stay stable might be extremely beneficial during those periods. For example, consuming moderate amounts of fruit during that part of the cycle (to ensure that there is always some liver glycogen to be released to maintain blood glucose) would be a useful strategy.

The next part of the paper examines changes in macronutrient intake, food cravings and PMS. Studies, as usual, are inconsistent showing variously increases in carb, fat and protein intake during the luteal phase. Some of this may simply be related to being hungrier in general with no clear increase in desire for a specific nutrient.

Some research has indicated that the increase in carbohydrate intake is due to a specific craving although, with chocolate (a combination of carbs, fat and other micronutrients) being the most craved item, other possibilities exist. Cravings for a sugar/fat combo or something else entirely may be functioning here.

Alternately, the issue could simply be one of a magnesium deficiency; some research indicates that magnesium supplements help with PMS related cravings and chocolate tends to be high in magnesium; women may simply be self-medicating an important micronutrient. In this vein, many females report that their cravings are ameliorated if not eliminated when they are supplementing magnesium (e.g. 400 mg of magnesium citrate at bedtime, which can also help with sleep).

Thanks a ton for the link, it was a great read.

Looking at body weight, most studies have apparently reported no substantial change in body weight with birth control pills although many show a trend towards increased body weight. One exception is Depo-Provera injections which are associated with weight gain.

I was trying SOO HARD to lose weight last summer, and I was on Depo-Provera - I managed to hit my lowest weight in many years, but holy crap, the amount of work I was doing and the amount I was eating, the effort was just not worth it! I ended up back to where I started by the time I finally got off the injections (only had 2). It really sucked! Take away from that: Stay away from Depo, its evil lol

Leg press Weight went up to 330lb. That is an insane increase.

To be honest, i'm not to sure about how many sets i just know i kept increasing the weight and did at least 2 sets at 6 reps at 330lbs. I'm pretty freaken happy. That's the highest i've EVER gone.

Leg Extensions (weight went up 10lbs.)

90x10
100x8
110x6
100x8
90x10

Dead Lifts (i'm going to have to do my dead lifts somewhere else. I've maxed the weight in the ladies section)

50x10
55x8
60x6
55x8
50x10

Leg Curls

40x10
45x8
50x6
45x8
40x10

Abs

15lb weight on upper chest, 8 reps then 2 reps very slow in the negative and repeat immediately. Immediately moved to lying leg raises at 20 reps...and repeat.

20min of MIIT to finish up the w/o. I felt great by the time i was done.

I use two machines. One has the presses for each individual leg. I use this so i don't favor my good leg and the other is the one where you press up on an angle (harder machine so less weight is used).

Training's been great, diet's on track. Bad DOMS from Tues w/o. My abs and legs are hurting units.

I've finally smartened up and now only cook my meals 2 days a week. I was spending too much time in the kitchen every night.

I asked my daughter for the first time ever if she could tell that i've lost weight. She said yes and then walked over to me and showed me where she could see it. She pointed out my hips and belly and then said my biceps were getting really big. haha. Then she showed me her biceps and told me how strong she was. So cute.

My daughter has no problem eating chicken and ground beef for dinner. Actually, she loves it which works out great for me. :D

Vegas trip is planned for April 12 to 16. I'm really excited because i haven't gone on a real vacation in years. My most memorable vacation was to Bobcaygeon Ontario. What a beautiful place to visit during the summer. Stayed in cottages and just had fun with friends. The drive there and back was pretty interesting too. We went through the States and i can't count how many small towns we went through and it was like something out of a horror movie. There were vehicles but not a soul in site. In those small towns, we couldn't find a gas station either, or someone to ask. Creeepy.

Sorry for the lack of progress reports here but i was really busy last week.

BTW, it looks like what i thought was big deal for my leg presses, really isn't much weight. I was watching other people in the gym and 330lbs isn't all that high. oh well. I'll keep pushing to get that weight higher.

I'm down 1.5lbs this week and i'm really excited about that. Since Feb 5 i've lost 10lbs. I didn't even think about how much i had lost all together until i looked at my bb.com stats. Not bad.

Did a little jogging on Friday to see how my knee was doing and it held up nicely. No sprinting though because last time i did that i paid for it for almost 2 weeks. I should be going in for a reassessment on my knee soon. I thought i would be further along in my recovery than i am but at the same time, i'm doing pretty good considering the damage that was done.

Still using CreaDyl and it's definitely working for me. I'm happy with the strength increase every week.

Excellent to hear, congrats on all that weight lost :) and hopefully your knee will be good to go when you get that assessment... it's been a while since you hurt it, so it's probably almost ready to go!

Some of those big supp tubs are close to empty, I should really finish them off and clear them out of there, it's a big mess and hard to keep organized lol... You didn't even get to see the other cupboard fully! There's maybe 30 pill bottles in it.... :o

I'm pretty busy lately with work and everything else going on. I'm trying to put in more hours at work because i'm leaving for Vegas for 5 days in less than 2 weeks and i'm trying to make up some hours. Sitting down and putting in my macros and weight training takes time, while writing a quick blurb is a little easier. I'll update with more detail when i get back.

I'm having issues with my stomach again and i've narrowed it down to the CreaDyl. Yesterday, almost immediately after having my CreaDyle (during the day dosage) my system went nuts. Pain off and on for about an hour and now i've got that bloaty feeling again that won't go away. I'm not sure what the ingredient is that's causing this havoc but it's not something i like. Last week was fine, so what's different about this week? I have no idea.

I'm getting pretty worried about my Vegas trip. I know i'll have access to a gym which i will utilize but i don't want to put on 5lbs and screw up everything i've done so far. I'm going to have to pay close attention to my cals and what i put in my mouth. I think the biggest challenge will be watching my portions, if i can keep that under control then i should be fine.

What hotel are you staying at?
I think your biggest concern won't ne what you put in your mouth, it's how much you will eat in one sitting. When I went we only ate twice a day, one big brunch buffet meal and one late dinner meal. You are too busy looking at the sights, gambling, etc. to worry about eating (unless you like the al-kee-hol! LOL)

i know, that's what i mean about portions. I can't see eating often but it's how much at one sitting that will worry me.

We're staying at the Monte Carlo. I've done some research into their gym prices and they want $19 for one visit or $45 for 3 visits. I just about fell over. That's an insane amount of money to pay to use their gym. I'm going to do some more research and see if there isn't something around that will cost less.

If you know of any gyms around the strip for cheap, let me know.

Well, i made a decision yesterday and i'm very happy about it. I'm going off the PSMF starting now. The diet was starting to get to me last week and yesterday i'd had enough. It's time to go back to maintenance for a while and incorporate carbs back into my diet. Its been so long since i've had carbs in my diet that i'm actually having a hard time coming up with meals. I've been on keto since last June or i was eating what i wanted when i broke my leg.

I'll be nosing around the forums to try and find some recipes and diet programs to use. I wanted to wait one more week before doing this but i'm ready to get off of this diet and back onto something more realistic and sustainable. I may use this diet in the future for quick fat loss again because it does work, but like i said in the beginning, it's definitely not long term.

I think i found out what the problem is with the CreaDyl, i believe i may have been taking it too soon after my meal. I took it yesterday before my meals and there were no stomach problems. I'll keep using it this way and monitor it to ensure that was the issue.

Great training last night. I worked hard and my weight went up again in the leg press. I definitely don't want to stop taking the CreaDyl, my strength increases are awesome.

Diet update coming soon.

A good decision, always stop an unsustainable diet before going insane and mad binging :)

I thought on the CreaDyl container, it says to take on an empty stomach? I could be wrong, I'm at work and can't check atm. But that would definitely make sense!

Since I've begun taking CreaDyl (which was right after some cheat days), my weights only been up/holding... I'm back in the low 150's. Hoping everything stabilizes soon cause I'd really like to get to just under 148lbs at the end of the week.. just so I can say all time low lol. Once I get more into the weight training and get a solid schedule I'll compare notes with you on strength gains :)

Diet suggestions... the 40/40/20 been working fine for me really. Any balanced diet should be fine, but I'm sure we all know more protein (to a certain extent) = better fat loss. The bottom line is calories in vs calories out, right?

Yeah, you're suppose to take the CreaDyl on an empty stomach but i don't think i was waiting long enough after my meal(s) before taking it.

It took about a week of using the CreaDyl before i saw strength gains. One day you'll just have to keep upping the weight. It's awesome.

I'm looking forward to eating carbs (yam fries, yum) again but i'm not looking forward to the water retention that comes with carbs. :( I'm thinking back to last year around this time, trying to remember what i was eating because my diet was more balanced then. My daughter's pretty happy about my diet change too. She was starting to get tired of chicken and beef and i can't blame her.

Cals in vs. cals out is how it works.

Great job kudostojen, great dedication, and great results.
I am curious about your low calorie diet, wanted to ask you a couple of questions about it.

Were you hungry, and if so, how did you cope with the hunger? I become so irritable when I am hungry!!!
Did you feel more tired, or had low blood sugar? Did you have trouble concentrating, or getting through your day at all?
How did it impact your workouts?
How did you fit such a strict diet in your daily life? I mean things like eating with your family, or going out with friends, etc, which are my major diet busters.

Thanks, and keep it up!

I was a little hungry during the day but that's when you munch on veggies. I didn't feel starved at all though, not till this week and that's when i knew i had to end it. My energy was amazing. It was rare for me to feel lethargic but it did happen occasionally. You also need to remember, with this diet your body shifts into ketosis which i've always found has given me more energy and would sometimes affect my sleep patterns. Meaning, not being able to fall asleep due to too much energy.

I didn't find any issues with my workouts.

I was allowed one re-feed day and one free meal a week so eating with family and friends was timed to those days.

I followed Lyle's instructions to ensure i wouldn't have any issues. Now i have to follow them again to get off the diet so i don't gain back what i've lost.

So i read the info from Lyle's book about going to maintenance and figuring out macros. I'm a little surprised by the numbers.

Protein = 110g (1g per pound of LBM)
Carbs = 155g (100g min then .5 x LBM)
Fat = 74g (the rest of my maintenance cals go to fat)

That works out to be P = 25% C = 36% F = 39%

Not the numbers i was expecting but i re-read and worked all the numbers at least twice.
That's a pretty easy diet to work with. He states that a min of 100g of carbs should be taken in per day to help boost one's metabolism after a cash diet. He has lots of good things to say about fat too. (The latest research is proving that fat is NOT bad, even saturated fat. That's all i'm going to say about that. ;) )

Anyway, i've been really busy with work lately and i should have some time to do a proper update this weekend. I may be doing another Double T contest but i've requested some info from the rep and until i can look at that, i haven't made up my mind yet.

How you likin dem carbs?? Bet theyre awesome delicious! lol

Remember a while back I mentioned having an idea?
Well... I tried it out a few days ago, and it totally failed, but it smelled good.
I attempted to make a protein cinnamon butter. It would've been AWESOME on toast or with pitachips for a snack. Unfortunately I have terrible mixing protein and it clumped bad...

CreaDyl has creatine also which can cause water bloat, retention. How many scoops a day are you taking? Do you still like it?

I was thinking of picking up a tub at the end of this month to replace my Jack3d since I want to get some creatine in my system with a pre-w/o supp.

Too bad that didn't work, it sounds good. Did you use an oil to mix the protein in? What oil did you use? Coconut oil sounds good.

I know the creatine can make your retain water but this isn't what my bloating is from. I wake up in the morning swollen. It's not too bad now but i think my body needed to adjust.

I really like the CreaDyl, it's working really well for me. If you start taking it DO NOT take it with any food in your belly. I've done it a couple of times too soon after my meals and it's not a good feeling. lol

I'm excited about it because i told him my goals and he thinks it will be easy for me to shed the fat i want to get rid of. He said he also noticed the difference in my body lately which is good, because every time i lose weight, my family can never tell.

There are far too many carbs in there and the cals are a little high. I'm going to hit the gym today to burn a few of them off. I'm going to watch my intake today very closely. I like the protein number though.

BTW, my maintenance cals are calculated at 1800. It's a rough estimate and low because i have a desk job so my daily cals should be closer to that number or just under.

I hit the gym yesterday but didn't get in my cardio. I ended up talking with someone for 40 min. I've never done that at the gym. He's a nice guy and we usually just say hi to each other but we talked about a lot and i wasn't' in any hurry.

THis weekend was not my best weekend. I'm still getting swollen once in a while and i think it's due to sugar. I can actually feel myself swell up. It's usually in the evening and then i wake up swollen in the morning.

I hit the gym on Sunday for a light full body w/o and yesterday i had some DOMS, so i guess it wasn't so light. I still hit the gym yesterday to work on my back and tris.
I've changed up my training a bit where i'm now doing 2 large drop sets for each exercise instead of the pyramid style. I usually end up around 40 reps for each set. I'm really trying to push it this week because next week i'm going on vacation and i'll be taking a break from the gym. I was working hard on trying to figure out some way to train while gone but then i realized that this would be a perfect opportunity for needed rest.

I've put in my order for my second tub of CreaDyl, more protein, ALA, Flax capsules and glutamine to BB.com. It should arrive shortly after i get back from vacation. It still amazes me how much cheaper it is to purchase supps from BB.com. Even with shipping (exchange rate is the same right now) it's still at least $50 cheaper than if i'd purchased everything from any store in my city.

Here's a thought for when you're on vacation, if you don't want to totally rest... Get a little Calisthenics circuit set up to do in the morning or something. Pushups, situps/crunches, squats, lunges, bridges... they work pretty good :)

There's always *some* way to work out! :D

I'm actually going to take a break from training for that week. It's really about that time and after my w/o today, i think i need it. I was going to bring resistance bands with me but i feel this would probably be more beneficial in the long run. I will elaborate tomorrow morning in my update.

We're going to be doing a lot of walking because we're not renting a vehicle and we've already talked about our meals and ways to save money so we can spend it in other ways. ;) We talked about eating small meals and snacks throughout the day which would work perfect for me as long as their healthy snacks.

Found this info about the "Diet Break" and thought it might be of interest to some of you who are dieting at a calorie deficit. I'm on the diet break now.

The physiological stuff is the stuff I talk about all the time here on the site, on the forum and elsewhere. When folks diet and lose weight/fat, the body adjusts metabolic rate downwards. While a majority of this is simply due to weighing less (smaller bodies burn fewer calories), there is also an adaptive component, a greater decrease in metabolic rate than would be predicted due to changes in things like leptin, insulin, thyroid hormones, etc.

By moving to roughly maintenance for a couple of weeks, many of those hormones are given time to recover. Thyroid hormones come back up, as does leptin. This is a big part of the reason for the recommendation to raise carbs to 100-150 grams per day as a minimum.

Thyroid hormones are distinctly sensitive to carbohydrate intake as are leptin levels (especially in the short-term). Just raising calories but keeping the diet very low carb doesn’t accomplish everything hormonally I want the full diet break to do.

This is also the rationale behind the duration, thyroid hormones and the effects that they exert aren’t immediate. It may take 7 days of eating at maintenance for thyroid levels to come back to normal, but you need at least another week to get many of their effects to max out. So in answer to the question “Can I make the break shorter?”, the answer is “No.” I know that everyone wants to GET LEAN NOW but unless you are a contest dieting bodybuilder or figure chick and there’s no real-time constraint, what’s the hurry?

As i mentioned in my last post, i'm on a diet break but i'm having a hard time keeping my cals in the maintenance area. I'm either too low or too high and those carbs aren't always the good ones. ;) The number of cals i consumed yesterday are few hundred higher. This is because i had to stop by my Mom's house after the gym and i was so hungry i ate 3 chocolate chip cookies.

Training yesterday was leg day and it went alright, i think. I started my usual w/o but i think i pushed harder than i've ever done before. I started with squats and then went to leg extensions which is nothing new. After the leg extensions i started to make my way up stairs to do leg curls and dead lifts. I could barely get up those stairs. If it weren't for the railing i don't think i would have made it up. I did my leg curs and then i proceeded to do dead lifts to finish my leg w/o. Well, that didn't work either. At this point i could barely walk and i think i got in about 4 deadlifts and then i had to stop. It just didn't feel right. That falling over feeling is great and all but it can interfere with other things. lol At this point i was done.

How do you know when you've worked your legs hard enough on leg day?

When you want to put the car in park while sitting at a red light because you don't have the strength to hold the brake pedal.

Thanks, yeah, take another week and that may help you when you go back into a calorie deficit to lose fat faster. He stresses the importance of carbs during those 2 weeks too which is hard for us because we're so used to not having them. I'm having a hard time with them myself.

hahah!!
I feel ya on that!

The gym I used to go to, the weight room was up a few flights of stairs, and it used to take me about 10 minutes to get down them because I had to be careful how I walked so I didn't fall from lack of strength, holding onto the railing for dear life... luckily someone else drove me home :)

I haven't been feeling very well lately. I missed the gym and work on Weds and Thurs. I woke up Weds morning completely exhausted and my boss sent me home minutes after i got to work because i looked like crap, which was an accurate description of how i felt.
My stomach hasn't been doing so well but it's not issues with the flu but issues with food itself. I'm having a hard time eating too much. i know how that sounds but i'm serious. On weds and thursday i ate till i was full, the problem is now, i feel full all the time. It's like my system can't handle that amount of food. It's a very uncomfortable feeling.

Anyway, i hit the gym yesterday which did help but then i had dinner and things went back to the way they were. I'm going to try and hit the gym today because i've only gone 3 days so far this week and i would like to go one more time before my week off.
I'll be taking next week off from the gym while down in vegas. We're not renting a car so i suspect we'll be doing a lot of walking which is fine with me.

On the bright side, my muscles are looking great. The vascularity in my arms gets better every week. I've got a vein that comes out to play in my left bicep everyday and on in my right bicep, it peeks out while at the gym. :)

Hey there!
Sorry to hear about the stomach issues!! That sound's pretty terrible... :(

Vascularity must be nice... I haven't really got there yet myself, but I am seeing *some* separation in a few muscles (mainly my front/mid delts). I'm anxiously awaiting to see my bicep vein... haha. Or even just the forearm ones actually pop out.

And enjoy your trip to vegas!!! Party like a rockstar :p

Well i'm in Vegas having a good time. I can barely walk today and we just got here Monday morning. There's a couple reasons i can't walk, one is i worked the crap out of my calves yesterday in the gym (yes i have free access to their gym), and two, my feet are KILLING ME!!! lol We've done so much walking. I'm guesstimating about 10hrs each day of walking and i'm wearing my most comfortable shoes.

Anyway, just wanted to give an update on how things are going. I planned on hitting the gym this morning but we're doing more walking today. :(

BTW, we saw David Copperfield and it was a real disappointment.

I'll be back on my diet come Monday morning. I'm actually looking forward to getting back to protein and veggies only. :)

Hit the gym yesterday for the first time since last Tuesday. Yesterday was leg day but i've realized that i'm having hard time doing a full leg day. I did some squats and leg extensions and that's as much as i can do. I need to separate my the leg muscles because when i was done with those two exercises i could barely walk so i did shoulders. After that i went for a 30 to 40 min HIIT run. No sprinting yet but i put the treadmill on a steep incline and that is a nice w/o. Had my heart rate up to 180 which happens very rarely.

I actually missed a meal yesterday just because i wasn't hungry. I had to make myself eat a couple of times. I've been back on my diet one day and i'm already starting to lose a tonne of water.

I'm almost out of CreaDyl and i'm still waiting for my order from BB.com. It should have been here sometime this week but they were out of one of my supps and couldn't send the order. I finally got tired of waiting and changed the one supp to something else so i should see the order early next week.

I should have an update on my weight the end of this week. I suspect it'll be higher than i'd like. :(

Low cals... wow, no wonder you're losing water already, especially with so few carbs lol.
Hopefully you get your gym mojo back soon!
And I'm glad I ordered 2 tubs of CreaDyl at once, but my first one is practically gone, and I'm enjoying the Lemon Lime FAR MORE than I anticipated... I'll have to order a 3rd before the end of the contest, but I'm torn on what flavor I want... :O You stickin with the same or trying another?

I know they're low and that wasn't the plan. I am purposely cutting the carbs because i just feel better without them. They do taste good though so i will stick to my weekend re-feeds/cheats as usual. :D

My legs are killing me today. I felt those DOMS as soon as i got up this morning.

I ordered the Lemon Lime again because i like it. Yesterday the Lemon lime was very refreshing because it's pretty warm out here so i'm glad i stuck to the same flavor. I don't think the orange would be as refreshing. Since i've gotten back from Vegas, i'm hot all the time and almost always sweating. yuk. I'm thinking the 2 1/2 weeks at maintenance and eating lots of carbs has kick started my metabolism because i wasn't this hot in Vegas and it was 5-15 degrees hotter. I started taking ephedrine yesterday in low doses twice a day, and that's not helping to cool my body down...lol

How have your lifts been since you started the CreaDyl?

I rather like the Orange, it's refreshing too, but not the way Lemonade is... it's nice with breakfast. I'll probably get the Lemon Lime as my 3rd tub just cause I really.. really... like lemonade.

My lifts have been better, I haven't been wussing out as much, and I've actually been lifting more frequently than the first couple weeks of the contest. I'm not going superhuman or anything but I feel as if I'm almost back to where I was. Endurance is good.... haha

And Ephedrine.. oh yes... it makes you warm. That could be a reason you're sweating a lot in itself, even at small doses... but metabolism boost and temperature changes etc etc can contribute... At least you're warm. We had a freak snowstorm here sunday evening (haha).. woke up and the cars were covered in a couple inches. LAME!

But I love the EC Stack. Energy + Metabolism Boost + I breathe easier... lol

Calories were much higher than whats posted above. I made ribs on the BBQ and they were soooo good. It's pretty hard to measure those because I'm not eating the bone and to strip off the meat and then measure it would take the fun out of eating ribs. I didn't eat too much but there was a lot of fat and bbq sauce on those ribs. I would guess about 500 cals and maybe 40g of protein.

Training in the gym has been really good. I'm not doing the pyramid style anymore but doing 2 large drop sets for each exercise. Reps can range from 20 to 30 reps for each set. I start at a very heavy weight and then drop the weight when it becomes too much. This really depletes my muscles. I've also changed my bis and tris training, where bis are done the same day as my back instead of doing my tris. This is because i'm looking to deplete the muscles as much as possible and because my bis are also used in the compound exercises on back day, it makes sense to do it this way.

How do you know you're sweating more than usual in the gym?

When you go into the locker room to find your mascara is running. ...it's a little embarrassing.

DOMS are really bad in my legs (i can barely walk) and i can feel my back from yesterday already. This is what happens when you take a week off.

Funny story for ya..! I totally understand this one.

I don't wear makeup at all for the most part, but, I do dye my hair, and every summer I end up dying it once every 2 weeks or so... (football thing).

So last year, I had recently put blue/green in my hair....

10 minutes into workout, I turned into she-hulk.

Weigh in this morning at 142.5lbs.

Goal for next Friday is 140lbs. 2.5lbs in one week would be awesome but it's extremely rare for me to lose that much weight in one week. We'll see.

I hit the gym last night, Thursdays are usually my day off but my daughter has soccer practice 5min from my gym for 1.5hrs. I figure i can utilize this time and fit in some extra cardio. Only got in 30min because her practice ended early due to rain. No biggy, i worked up a nice sweat and burned a few hundred cals.

Saw the Doctor on Weds and physiotherapist yesterday for an assessment on my knee. I was told to stop running/jogging to let the cartilage in my knee heal some more. I'm not happy about this because i was suppose to re-apply to the City Police in June and have my PARE (Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation) done when i applied. There is no way i can do this in the state i'm in now. I almost started to cry when they said i needed to slow down. :( It's just so frustrating. I worked my ass off last year and accomplished so much and now i have to wait even longer to do this.

This has been a great week. I've hit the gym everyday this week except today. I've done 5 days of cardio and 4 days of weight training. My re-feed yesterday went really well too. My fat content was kept low and carbs were high. I didn't even have popcorn at the movie theatre yesterday (The Losers), which saved me a tonne of calories and unneeded fat.

I was asked to join 2 other competitions with double T but i really don't have the time to keep up with that many contests. I know most of it's the same but i would rather concentrate on what i'm doing now and i may enter those contests in the future.

Here's a little update. I'm starting to see some definition in my arms and shoulders. :)

Diet's been on track but i am allowing myself one thing a day that's not perfectly healthy. My carbs are still at 40g or less and my cals are still below maintenance. I want to see if this will help me to sustain the diet a little longer without going crazy. lol

Training has been really good. I need to stay off the treadmill for a while as i can only speed walk and doing that on an incline is killing my shins. I'm taking my cardio to the elliptical now. I'd like to keep cardio at 5 days a week and around 30min minimum with my HR at or above 150 (150 is about 80% for me).

My BB.com Supps are finally here!!!! :D

Technically, it does fit into my macros for the most part but when i'm trying to lose weight i like to keep my diet as clean as possible. This is where the insanity can come from when dieting, being too strict. I'm usually one way or the other, if it's not done just right then don't do it at all, this kind of mindset can work but sometimes it can backfire too. I need to find that balance and allowing 150 to 200 cals of something yummy may just work. I'm going to try it for this week and if all goes well, i'll keep doing it.

finally got my supps which is good because i was running low on a lot of things. I'd be out of about 3 supps by the end of this week if they hadn't shown up.

Cals were good and training was ok. It's cold here again and i find my w/o don't feel the same in cold weather. don't know why.

I'm hoping to be down 2lbs by Friday. Fingers are crossed.

I'm going to be doing my cardio in the evenings about 1.5hrs before bedtime. I find i have the best results if meals are cut after training (minus p/wo), I also sleep better. I'll only be doing the cardio though. I'll be weight training late in the afternoon to early evening, followed by post w/o shake, then a small meal, then hit the cardio later that evening for some fat burning.

My diet was fine yesterday but my w/o was nothing to write home about. I had no motivation to even go to the gym but i did anyway. Worked the muscles scheduled for the day and then i spent 20sec (yes seconds) on the elliptical and i was done. I did get in 35min on my bike later in the evening with my HR at 145-150. The HR monitor on my stationary bike is crap so i used 2 fingers on my neck for 10sec and multiplied that by 6. Close enough i suppose.

My body composition is changing again, which is great. No gym today but i will get on the bike again for some more cardio.

I wanted to mention a documentary i watched last night while on the bike, it was on National Geographic channel about Anabolic Steroids. Interesting show because i didn't find it bias in any way but only giving scientific facts and experiences from former users. What i found really interesting were some of the side effects the drug can have on women. Smaller breasts, permanent deeper voice, balding, and the worst of all, larger and longer lips and not the ones on the face. yikes!! If you have the chance, watch it because if anyone is contemplating on using anabolic steroids, this will give you the information you need to make an informed decision.

I love any form of documentary that's bodybuilding related... So I'll definitely check that out!
You may like one I saw recently called "Bigger Stronger Faster", it's basically about steroid use in America, but it's very eye-opening. No talk of women on roids though.

Edit: It may be called Bigger Faster Strong too... uh.. I don't have it here to check on lol

Starting stats. March 7

26% bf (measured with calipers)
145.5lbs
Waist 36" (measured at bellybutton)
Hips 39.5"
Thigh 20"
LBM = 108lbs
Body Fat = 38lbs

New Stats

21% bf (measured with calipers)
141.5lbs
Waist 35" (measured at bellybutton)
Hips 37"
Thigh 20"
LBM = 111.5lbs
Body Fat = 29.5lbs

I was at these numbers last year but i've never made it past them. I'm hoping to drop another 4-5% in the next 8 weeks, I just have to keep doing what i'm doing.

When i look at other people's progress in this contest i start to feel like my progress is really slow, but then i remember that i took a week off from the gym and 2 1/2 weeks at maintenance because i started dieting 3 weeks before the contest began...and those numbers above are pretty good so i'm not complaining.

I'm not fond of the diet break but i do think it helped. I won't be going through another one till the contest is over. Re-feeds will be the only break once a week.

I'm a little curious about the LMB number. I don't think i've gained 3.5lbs in mass but this could be due to the creatine and that i may be holding water. First measurements were taken without supplementation of creatine.

While using the calipers, the major number changes were in my arms and my waist, but my arms had the largest change. I drop fat first in the arms and hips and then the waist and then the legs. There was no difference in the leg measurement but that's a hard place to measure.

I did some cardio last night. I'm proud of myself for doing it because i REALLY don't like it. I can feel my body buzzing when i go to bed from the w/o and i'm going to continue to do it a few nights a week to keep this fat loss going.

I start my re-feed tonight. I'll be having a subway sandwich and some double chocolate chip cookies, my fave. Carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs and then some more carbs. :D

As you can see from the measurements, my waist is a tough spot. I lost 1" in my waist and 2.5" in my hips and no changes in the mid thigh. oh well, i just need to keep going.

So, i've got 8 weeks to lose 11lbs. This may happen and it may not. I know i'll be close to it though.

This weekend didn't go as well as i'd like. I would've liked to have kept the fat down a bit more and NOT eaten those dinner rolls yesterday like they were going out of style. :( It shouldn't hinder my progress but there's a chance it may. We'll see this Friday.

No training this weekend, actually, i was really lazy yesterday and didn't even leave the house, slacked on laundry and house cleaning big time. I'll have to do it tonight which i really won't have time for but that's what happens when you get lazy.

It's my Birthday today and i'm turning 29 for the 5th year in a row. lol. I had my daughter with me this weekend so there was no drinking, ok 2 drinks, but nothing major but next weekend while my girl's at her grandfathers may be a different story. time for Mommy time. lol

Cardio will continue in the evenings, was suppose to do some last night but no go, it's definitely helping in the weight loss area and helping me sleep better at night. I will be doing it tonight, Tue, Weds, Thurs only. Friday cardio happens earlier in the evening while at the gym. With my daughter gone i may hit the gym Saturday and Sunday for some more, we'll see.

I had a pretty bad weekend myself - I actually drank (a lot more than 2 drinks), and besides my workouts I just been lousy, lazy, and depressed. I'm entering a funk. I'll probably whine in my log in a bit.

So by the math you want to be around 130 by the end of the contest? I'm aiming for approx the same, I think, it all depends... I'm shorter than you so I should likely aim for less lol. I need to lose 10lbs in the next 5 weeks though, not 8 weeks, because surgery is going to likely kill any progress for me, and I'll probably just try to maintain after it... it's basically crunch time in beefyland.

& Happy Birthday!

that happens to me too. Slow progress on the scale but my body looks much different. I keep wondering if i'm putting on LBM but to say it out loud and make that claim could possibly get me trouble with other posters...most people freak out when a claim like that is made and say it has to be something else. I really don't care as long as i'm losing BF.

The last time i was 130, actually, my lowest as an adult was 128, was when i was 19-21 and i had a great body. Nothing really lean because i didn't w/o but low BF, i guess it was around 15%. Soo, i'm guessing 130 should look pretty good on me, I just need to get there.

I know what you mean about people freaking...how could you POSSIBLY be putting on muscle that quick. ect ect but honestly I SEE it. I am heavier than i was at 160 but Im not far off from the same look, so I know ive added muscle. Now I just have to get rid of the extra layer of fat before the contest ends! lol

I had a good day yesterday but i almost didn't make it to the gym due to weather which effected my daughter's soccer practice. She stayed long enough for me to fit in quads and shoulders. whew...lol

I got in 35min of cardio last night too. It's so much easier when i have something good to watch. Last night it was Law and Order and tonight i think it will be last night's 24. I had to download it because i missed it so i should get in 40 min, as long as the show lasts without commercials.

Diets on track but i felt kind of chubbier than usual yesterday, but i suspect it's the water weight from all those dinner rolls i ate.

Weather is crap here and i've been dying to get out for a hike but it looks like i'll have to hold out for better weather, whenever that happens.

CreaDyl still surprises me in the gym. I feel so strong in the gym and when i hit some of the machines, the weight is at or lower than i need it which makes me feel pretty strong considering men are the last users of those machines. hehe...

Good work on getting that workout in and finding an amusing way to do cardio... I used to read on my exercise bike lol but I got a tv going in my basement soon and I'll probably set up my Sega (yea, thats right, Sega) to play while I bike haha...

And the CreaDyl.. I don't notice any crazy strength gains for myself. It's probably because I'm at a deficit and I used to lift heavier than I have been lately (when I had a training partner). I do believe it's helping me to maintain my strength though, which is nice.

I know. I also wonder if it's because i took about 6 weeks off from the gym in December and January and wonder if i might have what they like to call "newbe gains and fat loss" due to my time off. Again, it doesn't matter, all i know is my body is changing and it's changing for the better.

Training was awesome in the gym yesterday. I'm making my muscles scream for mercy. haha. My quads are feeling pretty sore from Monday nights w/o and they definitely screamed for mercy during the leg press and leg extensions. I like it. :D

I did cardio again last night for 37min with my HR at 150 while watching Monday's 24 (love that show). It was a good one. I barely noticed the time at all and next thing you know my cardio's done, that's how cardio should be.

While watching 24 i thought about Kiefer Sutherland and how he had a guest spot on Corner Gas using his Jack Bauer character from 24. If you're Canadian, you should know the show and if you're American, you should find it and watch it. It's one of the funniest shows ever about quirky characters in a small town in Saskatchewan. haha. Saskatchewan says it all.

Tv + cardio = the best! Makes it go sooo much quicker. I usually watch my guilty pleasure, the real housewives of New York (Yes I know its crap Tv but they are so bitchy I love it, lol)

This is very un-canadian of me but Ive only ever heard of Corner Gas, I never actually WATCHED it!

I liked the clip though :D

I'm at work and the clip won't load.. but I'll be honest, I'm not a very big tv fan, and I've never had an interest in Corner Gas.. I've seen a few minutes of random episodes, and some were ridiculous, mainly not my type of humor though... Though there's definitely some quirky characters. Maybe if I watched a full episode I'd have a different opinion on it lol. To me TV/cable is only useful for football and the occasional hockey game :D

I did thoroughly enjoy Air Farce and This Hour Has 22 Minutes back in the day though :p

It's not unCanadain, because if the show sucked, i wouldn't have watched it. I don't wathc sitcoms because they don't make me laugh but this one always had me laughing. It was sooo ridiculous that it was funny.

I have to watch something while doing cardio or i won't last. I like being able to download shows and watch them without the commercials...and don't worry, we all have our guilty pleasures, mine's Supernatural, and having to look at these guys for an hour is a nice bonus. ;)

It's the end of another week for me and there was no weight loss. I'm really disappointed considering i've added more cardio to my training.

Going to post progress pics tomorrow morning, so i would love some honest opinions. I don't think they're very impressive but hoping someone can see something i don't.

No cardio last night because i was exhausted, and i don't use that word lightly. Driving back form my daughter's soccer game, it hurt my eyes to even look at the road. Went to bed early (2hrs earlier than normal) and i feel much better this morning.

Re-feed tonight after some weight training and cardio, Subway sandwich again. :D After that, I'm not going to do anything but imprint my ass on my couch and watch TV or a movie. Going to get my tattoo re-colored tomorrow afternoon and i'm hoping there are no training restrictions. It's just a small tattoo so i should be ok.

I'll check out your pics and critique you as best I can.

Honestly, just try getting an extra hour of sleep a night, not only will you feel much much better, but you might have better results as well. 7.5 hours is a good goal.

How do you do your cardio? hard, HIIT, LISS, fasted, fed...?

My weight loss has stalled as well, might have to drop the cals afterall. Might just do that for june though...1600 cals or something like that.

Ive been eating lots of subway too...its just so easy and fits into my cals pretty easy!

Looking forward to seeing pics!

its hard to tell cause of arm position what exactly it is, but youre not as wide. chances are from tum & bum shrink. can see from the slope of the lower back to bum. and your stomach is flatter.

most noticeable things i can see in this is the lovehandles being a lil smaller and your bicep is bigger looking (popping out more) in the new pic

I agree with Beefcake. I can see some noticeable changes in your midsection, it definitely looks leaner. I also noticed some changes around the hip area from the back and biceps are popping more.
I also see a little change in the upper thighs!

Keep going!!! Every inch counts :D

Thanks for your help ladies. I hope the next few weeks bring on more changes. I didn't even look at my biceps, that's a nice change. I have noticed my back fat going down which is the main reason for my muffin top. People always tell me to buy bigger jeans but if i got bigger jeans, they'd sag in all the other areas. There is something else i noticed in these progress pics, my right leg is croocked. I'm not happy about that and i'm going to have to talk to my WCB worker and see if this can be fixed. I know the doctors were talking about shimming my leg for this reason last fall but decided against it to see how i healed.

This weekend went well. I'm getting better at eating low calorie treats on my refeeds. Hit the gym on friday, i did quads and glutes using a machine i've never used before but i figure if i can make my glutes a little stronger and bigger it might lift my ass a bit. lol I also hit the gym yesterday which i usually don't do, i try to make Sunday's my day off from everything but my daughter's got a soccer game tonight so i won't have time to hit the gym. I also did some cardio last night and i can't express how much i didn't want to do it, but i did and i'm glad i pushed myself. I'm going to try and do cardio every night for the rest of the week but i'm also going to try and get proper sleep this week, at least 7-8 hrs.

I've got a new app on my phone which tracks TOM but i'm also able to add notes and my mood, so i'm going to track my weight loss and other things using this app to see when i should be looking for changes and when i shouldn't.

Now that you mention it, I see what you mean about your knee - that's kinda the way I'm feeling about my wrist. Maybe when I'm laid up (and off crutches) I'll get mine rebroken... hopefully you get your leg all squared up with no problems.

Yeah, i love my iphone. i wondered after i bought it if i should have but it really is a great resource and toy. I love it.

I wanted to mention that i think i may have figured out what one of my problems was last week. I've been taking glutamine (at least once a day but usually twice) which is fine but it's been shown to inhibit ketosis or kick one out of ketosis, and this may be one of the reasons i was so tired. I need my body to to utilize fat for fuel and by not being in ketosis, this may have made it more difficult for my body to do. So i've dropped the glutamine which should help. I should have been aware of this considering i've been doing the keto diet for almost a year. lol

I had a great workout yesterday. The best workout i've had in weeks. I'm still doing the cardio in the evenings and i think i'm actually in ketosis now. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night but no problems getting up this morning, which is a clear sign of ketosis.

I'm feeling a little bloaty in my system and i suspect it's because i've dropped the glutamine.

I've been keeping track of what my body is doing regarding that TOM so i can compare it to next month. I have a feeling i won't see a weight change this week either. :( If not, i'll wait one more week and if things haven't changed i'll need to change something and it will most likely be my diet. I would bring back carbs but only about 150g per day and nothing more. I like the keto diet but if it's not working there's no point in continuing.

I'll hit the gym tonight for chest, tris and abs with cardio again this evening.

I weighed myself this morning and i still weigh the same as last week. My actual weigh in is tomorrow but i don't see much changing in a day. To be honest, i'm really shocked that my weight loss has gone this way. Any other time i've wanted to lose weight and put in the effort i've always succeeded. It never took this long nor did i have to train this hard either.

Training yesterday was awesome again. I did cardio last night again and will do more tonight.

I put together a new workout program because i've been doing the same thing, for the most part, since the contest started and i'm a little bored. I went to bodyrecomposition and used some of Lyle's recommendations (he's my hero :D). lol

this is where i got my idea
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/training/weight-training-for-fat-loss-part-2.html

I'm going to drop weight training to 3 days a week, maybe. Here's how it will look.

Monday
Legs
leg press
leg extensions
leg curls
dead lifts

These will be performed at maximum weight for 6 reps at 2 sets each. This is to ensure my strength and size remain the same.

Then
leg press x10
leg extensions x20
air squats x30
repeat superset (no rest between sets, but only 45sec between each superset)

dead lifts x15
leg curls x20
repeat

These are high reps to fatigue my muscles and trust me, i 've done this type of training before, i should be barely walking by the time i'm done.

The same type of training for every other muscle group except calves and abs will be used.

As i'm typing this, i'm thinking of another program i may use instead. It looks close to this but there would be more supersets and more reps. hmmm. I won't start this till next week so i've got some time to put it together.

Glad to see things seem to be on track for you now!

I've been wondering that too. Is this too much for my body? but i have a desk job and training 4 days a week with 4-5 days of cardio isn't much compared to last year when i was far more active at work. I should clarify this. Last year i trained 5 days a week with weights, and 3 days of HIIT for 15min and lost weight pretty fast. I've also trained 3 days a week with 2-3 days of HIIT and lost weight with no problems. This situation makes me wonder if i've plateaued because i never have before. That's one of the reasons why i want to change my w/o program. I'm thinking of going back to what i was doing a year ago. It's a great program and extremely intense but it's made for 5 days a week, so i would have to combine a couple of muscle groups.

Going to give it a try and see what happens. Maybe i should drop the cardio for a while. I don't know. I don't mind trial and error but it sucks when there's a deadline (contest).

Pretty interesting....
The whole equation eludes me, but how I chose to look at it is I can do things that don't affect the CNS/leave me tired as much as I want, but if I do anything overly stressful I should limit myself to 2-3 times a week... I haven't had a lot of time to fully test it, but I don't do HIIT cardio or even overly strenuous cardio, and since the contest started I haven't been doing anywhere near what I used to in the gym, lifting wise.

So if you're doing LESS than you were before when you were successfully losing weight, and you're eating the SAME... there shouldn't be a problem (just slower loss)... so switch up that workout or turn up the intensity.

Cardio is your friend :D

I'm definitely going to switch programs next week. I'm kind of excited and a little scared too. The burn you get from these w/os is insane and painful. I'm dropping the LISS 5 days a week and going back to HIIT 2-3 days a week. HIIT has always worked for me and it's time i start utilizing it again. 15min, including warm up and cool down seems to work for me. I spend a lot of hours training during the week and to up the time is not practical for me OR feasible. It's time to go back to what i KNOW works.

So are your workouts less (less time or less weight) than what they used to be and/or are you doing more cardio?

Well if you know what works for yourself stick to it! :)

My workouts are less weight now... I take my time more, so it's probably more time as well. When I went to the gym we lifted for 45-60 minutes and now I suppose my average lifting time is the same, but I do my full body split in that amount of time instead of 1 body part (we had chest, legs, back, shoulders, arms on rotation). With the exception of my insano marathon workouts that I'm becoming quite fond of to be sure...

And I'm definitely spending more time doing cardio. 30-45 minutes in the morning 5 days a week is what I used to do, now its more like 30-60min in the morning 5-7 days a week + a few other sessions randomly and I've recently started adding post-workout cardio...

It's the start of another week. I've got my new program ready and i can't wait to start doing it again.

I'll be doing Back and Chest today but i may break these two up depending on how it goes. If i have to, i'll stick one of them with my shoulder workout. Back and Chest may be too much for one day, we'll see. I've got HIIT when i'm finished and i've cut the evening cardio. After 3 weeks and no progress, there's no point in continuing. I may add it again at a later date but that's unlikely considering i've never needed it before.

I've gone back to eating more chicken, i just hate that it's so expensive. urrggg...$20 per pack and it lasts me about 2 days. That can add up in a week. I need to add more fish to help with the costs but i hate the fishy smell it can sometimes bring (depending on the fish) in my house. I'm going to try and up my protein to around 1g per pound of body weight from 1g per pound of lean body mass. I'm also not being as strict as i was regarding carbs, but i will NOT go over 75g per day.

I'm a huge fan of toast, yes toast. I love 2 pieces of toast with butter and the Weight Watchers bread is only 100cals and 19g of carbs per 2 slices. I'll take it!!!! :D I also found Skinny Cow Ice Cream. I buy the little fudgesicle bars and they're only 50cals each, which make for a nice treat. i should note that there are 2g of sugar alcohols in them though.

Well i wanted an intense workout and i got it. WOW!!!! I was sweating buckets by the second set and i was seeing stars after one of my chest sets. haha. It was great. I've already got DOMS in my back.
I did HIIT which always gives me an amazing workout and get's me sweating buckets.

I've got legs and abs today which should be more painful than yesterday's workout, excellent. :D

Macros were really good but my protein was at 124g and net carbs at 74g. I'd like to get the protein a bit higher and the carbs a little lower. Carbs are high because i had some chicken wraps yesterday. They were scrumptious. I BBQ the chicken on skewers and use cottage cheese and salsa in the wrap, very tasty.

I sympathesize about the chicken... I bought a couple packs the other day and I left one too long so I basically wasted 15$ worth the chicken (it was only 2 pieces)... I hate it when I do that, I need to be more on the ball. There's just not enough time (or attention span available) in a day for me to get groceries and cut up/weigh all my meat... so it's beef week for me lol. Cheaper!

And Yea, whenever I get bread, I always go for the weight waters or bodywise bread, I think they have basically the same macros. I just can't take too many carbs in one sitting... as much as I love them lol Icecream sandwiches = crack. I wonder if I can make my own with protein powder... HMMM!!!!

..Considering my last experiement failed miserably... maybe I should wait on that haha

So the Chest & Back routine worked out well for you? Not too much?
I like to hit my back from too many different angles so I usually don't pair it with chest but I hear it's a really good combo to do (opposing muscle groups etc etc..)

I love HIIT. I stopped doing it a long time ago and thought i would stick to LISS for a while but it doesn't seem to do much for me. If it does, i haven't noticed.

HMMM!!!!

..Considering my last experiement failed miserably... maybe I should wait on that haha

haha, i do that with food sometimes too. I keep telling myself that i'll cook it and never do, then it's garbage.
I don't take any other carbs, except for those wraps which i rarely eat, so having some toast throughout the day totally works within my macros.

Try making it with protein powder, you never know, you might make something awesome.

So the Chest & Back routine worked out well for you? Not too much?
I like to hit my back from too many different angles so I usually don't pair it with chest but I hear it's a really good combo to do (opposing muscle groups etc etc..)

The chest and back were really hard but i pushed through it. I did 260 reps for back and 260 reps for my chest and each had 4 different exercises, basically a push/pull workout. If you can, try it, you won't be disappointed. If you don't have all the right equipment there's always an exercise to replace those posted in the word doc to use instead. Sometimes i have to do that but i always keep the reps the same. Each muscle group took about 20 min because the rest times are only 45sec. I could barely drive last night and even my forearms were really weak. Just turning on my signal light was hard. lol
