Hi all and thanks for stopping by! This here's going to be my log for the OBF contest, so look for pics and such once the contest starts.

A bit about me:

I'm a female college student, 5'3" and weighing in at about 163 lbs currently. I've struggled with being overweight since middle school and this is the first time I've tried supplementing my diet with exercise, and it seems to be going pretty well (at least for the two weeks I've been at this).

My goals in this contest are to lose fat and minimize muscle loss. Workout consists of weightlifting MWF (Squat, Straight-Leg Deadlift, Bench Press, Bent-Over Row, Overhead Press) and cardio (~30 minutes) TuThSa.

Diet is around 1000 calories, primarily from protein with veggies thrown in. I try to eat 5~6 times per day, smallish meals/snacks. I take a daily multivitamin, fish oil, and a calcium supplement.

I'm really excited about this contest because I think it will help me reach my goals by keeping me focused on winning instead of thinking "Oh, it'll be okay if I break the diet, no one will know/care."

Anyway, good luck to everyone else who's participating!

It makes such a difference to my motivation, even just today. Whenever I start to think about my favorite foods, I've just reminded myself that I signed up for this and I need to put my best effort in!

Good luck to you, too. Hopefully we can both do our best. :)

Hey just thought I'd stop by and say good luck with the challenge!! I'm also in the OBF - it's a great way to stay motivated when you have a goal to work towards :)

1000 calories is *super* low though... any reason for that??

Hey Callie,
I'm Jlock126 (Jenn) and I'm doing the challenge too. Our stats are similar so I'd like to buddy up if that's cool.

I was also wondering why you were aiming for 1000 calories? I still lose weight if I stay under 1650. Just wondering and worried you may send your metabolism into a tail spin.

Good luck to you!!

Thanks for stopping by! It is a great way to get motivation and I wish you luck reaching your goals.

Well, my maintenance calories are about 2000, so to lose 2 lbs a week would be -1000 calories a day taking me to 1000. If I have any issues, I do plan to up it, but I'm using as a starting point more than a hard-and-fast rule.

Hey Jenn. I'd love to buddy up! I think having a partner will really help with my motivation :)

See my reply above for a reason. I've eaten at 1000 calories/day before (admittedly, I wasn't lifting weights then so it may take some adjustment) and I've lost 2 lbs/week pretty steadily (it's just my dedication that sucks).

It's not like I can't change it if I start to have problems, it's just a point at which to begin. Thank you for worrying, though!

Good luck to you as well and I hope to talk to you more!

Good luck girl!

Thanks!

LOL, thank you!

Weighed in today at 165.4 lbs (yuck) which is probably because I let myself go just a little in preparation for the contest.

Got up at 6 and hit the gym. There was a guy there doing like 5000 half squats and then a whole bunch of weighted calf raises. I was a little curious but to each their own. *shrug*

On a side note, my grip sucks. I have teeny-tiny hands (I've yet to meet someone over 18 with smaller hands than mine) so those big freaking dumbbells dwarf my palm and it's just ridiculous. I'd love to use chalk, but I work out at my university's gym and I don't think the guys who go there even know what chalk is used for (at least I've never seen anyone use it), plus the staff probably wouldn't like it. I keep meaning to buy gloves or straps, but it's difficult when I don't have a car...

Got a Calculus (III, for the math geeks out there) midterm tomorrow. And I just realized that my spring break is next week, when I just started this competition. >_< I guess I'll just have to be careful with my eating and try to stay active, lol.

I'm also excitedly anticipating my protein powder. I've never had a protein shake before so I'm kind of curious, plus it'll help me get my requisite protein in. :) But it seems to be taking an awfully long time in the mail.

I need to post start pictures! I had my boyfriend take them so I just need to get around to uploading them. (...Which means I need to find the damn cord...)

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well!

Sounds like you have a lot going on. No worries, just keep a good head about you, stay focused, and you will be fine. :)

I'm only going to weigh on Mondays. This am it was 160.2. Ahhh the 160's, just sux!! haha

I've subscribed to your thread so I can keep up with ya.

Heyee! I am so excited about this contest! I need to update my stats, I have gained weight from resetting my metabolism (used to eat 1K/day, now up to 2K, but going to cut to 1800 for the contest) but I am so excited to be able to work out AND eat! I am excited for everyone who made this commitment, good luck!!

Hey Callie

Good luck on your transformation

I just want to ask you a question and give you my opinion. Take it or leave it.

What gave you the idea for having your cals so low? I ask this because i want to make sure you're training properly at such a deficit and that you know when re-feeds are or may be necessary.

I am doing a similar diet but i'm following Lyle McDonald's book to do so and he's very specific about certain things. This includes protein consumption and training. You can find yourself in a bad situation if certain precautions aren't followed.

Heh, I do, but I like being busy, it keeps me from being bored. :) It's probably better to weigh in once a week, but I like seeing the subtle changes and the fluctuations don't frustrate me.

Thanks for the link. I'll head over there and subscribe. :)

Some friends and I will probably just be hanging around, but we are planning a day trip to King of Prussia and we want to go to the Melting Pot, which is a fondue place. I have no idea what I'm going to do to stick to the diet.

Thank you for your concern! :) Some other people have expressed worry about this aspect of my plan as well. First off, I set it there because that's where it needs to be for me to lose 2 lbs/week, which is a lot for a female of my height to lose per week, so I intend to up the calories as I see fit (if I don't have enough energy/if I'm not able to do my exercises/if I'm not seeing the strength gains I would like/etc.) It's more of a starting point than a hard-and-fast rule.

Also, I have read Lyle McDonald's book, and was thinking about doing his modified PSMF, but I would be eating 400 calories a day, and my boyfriend told me frankly that I wasn't allowed to do that. So what I'm doing instead is I upped the calories and I'm making sure to be taking in enough protein and taking the recommended vitamins and such (working on getting magnesium and potassium supplements as he recommends).

So again, thank you for worrying about me, but I feel I have it under control and am informed of the potential downsides of dieting this way, and I always have the option to up my calories.

Hit the gym this morning, and I'm feeling good. My friends, however, are out to sabotage me >_> (jk, they just want me to go out to dinner with them, lol. Chinese buffet is not good for diet).

Protein powder came in. It's not too bad tasting at the beginning but by the end I feel a little ill. (Perhaps it was the consistency, I think I try to make it thicker next time). Also took my calc test got a 97%, boo yah~!

My issue these days is that I want to eat a lot, and if I can't eat a lot I don't want to eat at all. So overcoming that may take some time.

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing great!

OMgosh...don't I know it. I could have eaten everything in the pantry. Good job going to the gym today!

Thanks!

Weighed in today at 160.4 lbs (woot). It must be mostly water weight because there's no way I lost four pounds in as many days. Still, I'd like to see that number go under 160. :)

I also redid my measurements, and compared to when I started this little journey (about 4 weks ago) I've lost practically everywhere. I'm so stoked and very encouraged to continue. My clothes are starting to feel big on me and it feels good~!

I applied for a research stipend for this summer and we're supposed to get the notification about whether we were accepted today. I'm way nervous. More nervous than I should be, probably, but I re~ally want to have the experience when I apply to grad school.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well with your progress and keep it up!

Good job on the weightloss! I'm down again today too. Such a scale junkie.

Did you post your starting pics? I looked last night and couldn't find any for you.
