okay so im trying to lose like 30 or so pounds and gain some muscle so ive been doing starting strength for a few weeks, but with the amount of running i wanna do im thinking all the squating might not be good once i go heavier and heavier. so is this a good workout for someone like me or is there anything else i should do? btw im not trying to get like huge like a bodybuilder or anything just stronger and in better shape and all

I imagine soccer players would benefit most from squatting, ab work, and cardio.

I don't necessarily think SS would be good for a soccer player. If i were in your case I would work on doing a lot of speed and agility work and also doing weights with lower weight and high reps. That way you will get lean and still be able to be quick on the field. I know a lot of people who just simply cannot squat 3x a week because it just too strenuous on their CNS. If you really have your heart stuck on doing SS I would eliminate one of the squatting days and see how your BODY feels. Some people can handle it some people cannot. Listen to your body.
Best of Luck

I agree with you on that one.
Squat only twice a week or even once, but after that or on the other tranin session do some assistance with higher reps, 8-15.
Soccer needs good agility and explosiveness but there is that aerobic component that is the major thing. Just saw today Champions league, guys ran around 11 kilometers in 90 minutes. Huge!

Indoor soccer is another story, there you need to be an explosive beast to dominate. Just keep squatting, but don't squat three times if you practise with your time 3-4 times weekly.
You'll se great results with added leg strength.

I can kinda tell that you really want to go full on with the SS nothing wrong with that. Stick to the program Eat.Sleep.Train.Drink Milk. See how you feel squatting see how your body responds if you can handle more do more if you cant handle a lot tone it down.

Squats are essential and they are the core of the program, not just SS, but every other program.
You can do HIIT on off days. You can have a finisher after weight traning and do one round of tabata, it's only four minutes but you will feel it a lot longer. Or barbell complexes also.
Don't over do it.

alright thanks. but one more question loll should i just do a different workout with higher reps until i lose enough fat (like 25-30 pounds) and then go to ss to gain more mass, or just keep doing SS. cause even though i want to gain strength i need to lose this weight..

if youre new to weights, novice lifter, then you can progress or stay at the same numbers while losing weight, that also means your getting stronger in relation with your bodyfat.
But you gotta decrease calories slightly below your needs. So you can lose bodyfat.
It is possible but it will be hard. I'm sure you can do it for few weeks. If you start to feel you can't keep up with it then switch one workout with sth less demanding.

no problem. it's not perfect, I'm sure, but it works for me. I'm that player that has little talent, all heart. I've worked very hard to be a decent player. I've tried out for higher level teams like A-league/USL and I've been smoked so don't feel too bad.
Personally, I prefer indoor. it's much more my pace. Short bursts of intensity, scoring goals from midfield, lol. I love it.
BTW- you still need to do a bit of jogging type cardio for stamina but honestly, I think that old-style philosophy is going by the way side. when I was a kid, we used to run for hours in practice. we never did plyo's or sprints. the emphasis was all wrong.

thats pretty much how i am, i love the game and love playing it and watching. im not too good, only been playing about 3 years but yeah i love indoor so much more than outdoor. like you said the pace is good and since my teams have always sucks and i play defender i got plenty of action lol. and yeah i wanna do some jogging after workouts to get my stamina up and do hiit on my offdays (havent played for a few monthss)
